American singer Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson - biography and personal life

04.07.2020

Michael Jackson was accused of pedophilia and condemned for plastic surgery, they did not believe in the sincerity of his marriages and resented the frankness of the clips. But he was still loved and loved all over the world. Nine years have passed since his death, and people still sometimes “see” the singer in different parts of the world. Fake your own demise? It would be quite in the spirit of extravagant Michael.

Deprived of childhood

The seventh out of nine children in the family - this fact itself no longer implies an easy and carefree childhood. But the Jackson family was not just a large family. The father and founder of The Jackson 5, Joseph Jackson, was close to sadism in his methods of upbringing: he regularly beat the children, and he was especially strict with Michael - the man did not like his “downtroddenness” and unresponsiveness.

It was his father who was to blame for the fact that the king of pop suffered from insomnia and nightmares all his life. One night, he climbed up the wall into the nursery wearing a Halloween mask. Thus, Joseph wanted to wean children from sleeping with open windows, but in the end only caused them psychological trauma. The success of The Jackson 5, where the five Jackson brothers, including Michael, sang, was largely due to iron discipline and fear of his father. As soon as you hit the wrong note in rehearsal, the belt came into play. Unsuspecting newspapers called the group "a phenomenon of our time", and eleven-year-old Michael cried quietly, looking out the window at peacefully playing peers. They did not need to prepare for concerts - they could remain just children.

Birth of a King

When the group's success began to decline, the grown-up soloists fired their father from the producers - the "five" broke up, and only Michael could achieve success on stage alone. On the set of The Wiz, he met music director Quincy Jones, who was embarking on a solo career as a promising artist.

The very first album "Off the Wall" becomes successful, but the real legend of Jackson will be called after the release of the record "Thriller".

A fourteen-minute video for the song of the same name, more like a short film, will set a whole new direction in the video music industry. He will be imitated, but no one will be able to repeat the success of Michael Jackson: nine months at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, seven Grammy awards!

Michael no longer complained about fate. Success in show business gave him opportunities that he could not even dream of. In the late eighties, the singer bought the Neverland ranch: on a plot of 11 square kilometers there was a house resembling a fairy-tale castle, which was surrounded by its own zoo, Ferris wheel and other attractions.

Deprived of childhood, Michael created a reality for himself that he never had. But the real world constantly reminded of itself with completely non-childish problems.

One against all

On the set of a Pepsi commercial, Michael had a nuisance: at the request of the director, he lingered next to the pyrotechnic devices, he received severe burns to his face and head. This led to the first operations with serious consequences. While the burns healed, Jackson suffered from severe pain, which was helped by pills and sedatives. Due to the general stress, a rare hereditary disease has aggravated - vitiligo, a violation of the pigmentation of the skin. Over the years, the skin of the king of pop has become more and more light. In rare interviews, Michael explained about vitiligo and the need for makeup, but most believed in a louder version of what was happening - Jackson wants to become "white", change race!

Even his passion for charity has been turned inside out. Helping seriously ill children, Michael offered them a free vacation at his fabulous ranch. In 1993, someone Evan Chandler accused the singer of seducing his 13-year-old son Jordan.

Michael Jackson, Lily and Jordan Chandler The trial began. The boy gave a verbal description of the naked Jackson, and he was forced to undergo a humiliating examination in order for the investigation to compare the testimony with the real body of the singer. The result was "not entirely true". The investigation did not go further: on the advice of relatives, Michael offered Chandler $ 22 million and a settlement agreement. For the time being, this story was forgotten. Jackson is even more addicted to antidepressants. The only thing that could cheer him up without pills was a relationship with an old acquaintance, Lisa Marie Presley.

Marriages that no one believed in

They knew each other since the seventies, and in the days of difficult trials often called up. At some point, Michael realized how important Lisa's support was to him. “What would you say if I asked you to marry me?” he asked during another telephone conversation. Lisa, after a short pause, agreed. By that time, she already had the experience of an unsuccessful marriage and two children. They got married with Michael in the Dominican Republic, away from the paparazzi, and kept everything a secret for two months. The reaction of the public was predictable: both were immediately accused of mutual PR, and Jackson was also accused of trying to improve his own reputation at the expense of his wife.

However, if he had selfish motives, then they consisted in something else. All the year and a half that the marriage with Lisa lasted, Michael persuaded her to give birth to a child. She, who saw in Michael a little boy in the body of an adult man, categorically refused. The dispute reached a dead end, as did their relationship. On January 18, 1996, Lisa filed for divorce, but nothing could stop Michael in his pursuit of fatherhood. Less than a year later, he married his dermatologist's assistant, Debbie Rowe. At the time of the wedding, she was already five months pregnant.

Jackson's dream came true: a healthy and trouble-free Deborah gave him a son, Prince Michael, and a daughter, Paris. And three years later, she fully accepted the terms of the divorce: the children remain with Michael, she also remains with a house in Beverly Hills and a settlement of $ 8 million. With Lisa-Marie Presley, they continued to communicate after the divorce. After Jackson's death, she admitted that Michael was her greatest love in life.

New accusations

In 2003, Michael Jackson hosted a British TV crew at his ranch. Talking about the children playing around, the singer drew attention to one of the boys: “And this is Gavin Arvizo. We really became friends with him. Sometimes we even sleep in the same bed, don't we, Gavin? And the other day, you know, we tried alcohol together! The sincere confession, said so, in passing, struck both fans and enemies of the star. Jackson was again accused of pedophilia, the star was defended by the best lawyers in America, who insisted on a psychiatric examination. She showed that Michael was not a pedophile, but he was not mentally healthy either.

Abuse from his father and early stage maturity meant that the 46-year-old singer had the development of a teenager and did not see anything reprehensible in letting a frightened child into bed.

He was acquitted again, but this time the singer earned not only another depression, but also serious financial problems. To fully pay off the lawyers, he even had to mortgage the ranch. Only new tours could improve the situation. In early 2009, Michael Jackson announced a series of concerts he would perform in London over the summer. The program was called This Is It Tour: the singer rehearsed a lot, honing his performance to perfection. 18 days before the first concert, everything was almost ready - except for Michael himself.

The real idol for many fans of pop music was Michael Jackson. The cause of the death of the artist became the subject of a lively discussion in the media. The official version is overgrown with rumors and speculation. The circumstances under which the beloved singer died, where he was buried and what will he left, will be discussed in this article.

the day before

Michael Jackson was in high spirits before his sudden death. The cause of death for people who knew him closely seems obvious. The singer spent a lot of energy preparing for the next tour. The proposed concerts in London were supposed to mark the return of the artist to the big stage. He had not performed for a long time, was in poor physical shape, but intended to successfully overcome all obstacles. He had the strength to rehearse with a dance group for several hours a day. Literally a day before his death, the singer looked fresh and cheerful. He amazed those around him with his efficiency.

Ken Ehrlich (one of the Emmy producers) claims that Michael Jackson experienced his best days before his death. The cause of the singer's death puzzles him, because the artist felt great, talked a lot and joked. However, the very next day he was gone. Specialists, even after the second autopsy, could not determine the diagnosis. What was it? The result of numerous plastic surgeries? A sluggish but deadly disease? Consequence of severe overwork? An overdose of potent drugs? Jackson has never been afraid to experiment with his health. This carelessness played a cruel joke on him.

Death

Michael Jackson, whose albums sold in millions of copies, did not die immediately. First, the singer fainted on the set in Los Angeles. Then the fainting recurred. This time the artist was in the house that he was filming in the west of Los Angeles in Holmby Hills. Jackson's personal physician, Conrad Murray, told police that he found his patient in bed with a weak pulse on the femoral artery. He was between life and death. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation failed. It took half an hour to find the guard, so that he heeded the requests of the frightened Aesculapius and called emergency services from his phone. For some reason, Murray did not want to use his personal cell phone. Thus, only at 12:21 a call was made to number 911. Information about the tragedy came from an unknown man.

Three minutes later, doctors discovered the lifeless body of the artist. Attempts to bring him back to life continued for another hour. They were unsuccessful. Michael Jackson died at 2:26 p.m. at the University of California Medical Center. Date of death - June 25, 2009. The legend of world show business, the king of popular music, a wonderful singer, a unique dancer, an unsurpassed showman, died without having made the last tour in his life.

Expert opinion

Michael Jackson was physically exhausted. The cause of death could be the most unexpected. On examination, he was found to have many scars, including from an operation to stop skin cancer. In addition, they found several broken ribs and bruises, traces of heart injections. The singer had only pills in his stomach. With a fairly high growth (178 cm), his weight was only 51 kilograms. It is strange that this man even found the strength to sing and dance.

Experts immediately had several assumptions. They referred to physical exhaustion, the abuse of painkillers, the consequences of plastic surgery. The examination of the body was continued by the coroners. They found no signs of violence, but they did not reveal the cause of death either. Michael Jackson's doctor disappeared, and he certainly could tell a lot about the state of his ward before the tragedy. The toxicology tests took about six weeks. However, the experts did not come to a consensus. Three main versions have been put forward.

Version number 1: potent means

Michael Jackson, a biography whose personal life was constantly covered in the press, took shocking doses of painkillers. He was not used to drugs. A person who sought to change himself beyond recognition drowned out the pain by all possible means. With age, the artist developed problems with the spine, and he became addicted to drugs. Lawyer for the Jackson family, Brian Oxman, argues that there can be no other causes of death for the actor. He bitterly states that the people surrounding the singer did not interfere with his destructive addiction. Did Michael Jackson use drugs? Experts say no. However, his system was overloaded with potent substances, which eventually caused his heart to stop.

Version number 2: destructive plastic

Michael Jackson, whose albums broke all records of popularity, more than once went under the knife in order to improve his own appearance. From some sources it is known that during the next rhinoplasty, the artist became infected with one of the varieties of staphylococcus aureus. After that, the virus began to gradually destroy his body. In addition, the artist's repeatedly deformed nose became much less functional - the nasal passages narrowed, which caused oxygen deficiency. This could lead to chronic hypoxia, which is able to provoke cardiac arrest. Doctors have come up with a special term for this phenomenon - apnea. Death comes in a dream when a person does not control breathing. By themselves, plastic surgery is not dangerous, but their consequences can greatly undermine the health of the patient. Surgical intervention under anesthesia, taking drugs during the rehabilitation period bring negative results. Michael Jackson suffered because of his fearlessness - he believed that he could change himself beyond recognition without any consequences for health and well-being.

Version number 3: inflated expectations

Michael Jackson, whose last years were not easy, took on very serious obligations. For example, he was supposed to perform on a huge stage in London in July 2009. The artist experienced monstrous overload and colossal pressure. The impossible was expected from him - a complete recovery without interruption from exhausting rehearsals. In preparation for the anniversary celebration, the singer worked almost without rest. The insane work schedule killed him.

Version number 4: beautiful care

In fact, the whole world was waiting for a miracle. It was expected that a weak and sick person would suddenly perk up, make a frantic leap forward and give the audience another incredible show - with trapeze flights, moonwalk and crazy energy. At first it was stated that the artist would give 10 concerts, then 50 at all, but it is clear that he would not have survived even one. But how grandiose would be the death of an artist on stage in front of an audience of millions! Before performing at the London arena, the singer did not live only 18 days. The tour was called "farewell" long before the start. Michael Jackson was clearly dying. Among his diseases were called emphysema, gastric bleeding, vitiligo, skin cancer ... The death of an extravagant artist could be a continuation of a grandiose life-long show. This would be the King's farewell to the spectator in love with him. It's a pity that it didn't happen.

The funeral

The world broke up with the legendary singer on July 7, 2009. The public farewell took place at the Staples Center stadium. 17,500 tickets were raffled off online. The excitement was such that the price of them reached $ 10,000. Thousands of fans gathered to honor the memory of the remarkable artist, as well as the most famous people of our time - actors, singers, showmen. The event was more like another show with world celebrities than a funeral ceremony. The singer's sister, Janet, tried to add a touch of sincerity to the pathos atmosphere. She spoke about how terrible the loss of her brother was for her. The surprise for the public was that Michael Jackson's daughter, Perris, took the stage. An eleven-year-old girl told the audience that she misses her father very much. The body of the world celebrity was buried in a bronze coffin with gold plating. It rests in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles.

Will

The posthumous desire of the artist was unequivocal. Back in 2002, he made a will in which he indicated that he was dividing his fortune between his mother, three children (including Michael Jackson's daughter) and charitable structures. Father - Joseph Jackson - is not mentioned in the will. The singer's assets at the time of his death amounted to 1 billion 360 million dollars. The most valuable investment is considered to be a share in the music catalog, estimated at $331 million. It contains compositions of the best artists of the 20th century. In addition, Jackson took care of the future of his children. He secretly recorded two hundred songs and transferred ownership of them to a special fund. Lenders can't get to him. And the artist has done a lot of debts. According to the most conservative estimates, their amount reaches 331 million dollars.

It is difficult to overestimate the legacy that Michael Jackson left behind. The date of the death of the world legend will forever remain in the memory of fans.

Childhood under control

"Discipline" - under such a slogan Michael's childhood passed. His father Joseph Jackson was a strict, sometimes cruel man. He kept all his ten children under control, and for any offense the guys suffered both mentally and physically. Many years later, Michael admitted in an interview that his father's upbringing methods had a strong effect on him. So, for example, he could put on a scary mask and scare his son at night only so that he would not forget to close the window at night. Of course, this was reflected in the psyche of the child with a vengeance. At the same time, it was his father who played a big role in the formation of Michael.

The Jackson family was distinguished by their love of music, at one time his father even participated in the Falcons musical group, and his mother Katherine sang well. When the eldest sons independently mastered playing the guitar, the head of the family decided that it was necessary to create a group. This is how the group "The Jacksons" appeared, where Michael later joined. Dad, by the way, controlled every rehearsal, naturally, stimulating the children with a belt.

The creativity of the guys attracted a lot of listeners. In 1966, Michael became the lead singer of the group, which was then renamed The Jackson 5. By the beginning of the seventies, the five guys had already successfully toured not only in the Midwest. Having started their activities with performances as opening acts in clubs, they reached a new level in a few years. In 1970, several of the group's songs reached number one on the national Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Beginning of solo activity

Michael stood out from the quintet with a special manner of performance, dance, behavior on stage. Therefore, in a period when the popularity of the group was gradually declining, he did not lose heart, but took advantage of this moment and dedicated it to his solo albums. Meanwhile, the group in 1976 began to perform again under the name "The Jacksons". The new signed contract opened up new opportunities for the guys. Creative activity again began to boil, and by 1984 the band's discography was replenished with six more albums. Michael, on the other hand, began to develop a solo career, which was facilitated by his participation in the musical based on the work The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and acquaintance with director Quincy Johnson.

heyday

The eighties are called Jackson's "golden age". They were marked by resounding popularity and record success:

  • the album "Off the Wall" (1979) sold over twenty million copies;
  • the album "Thriller" (1982) became the best-selling album in history;
  • 7 Grammy Awards for "Thriller" and 7 American Music Awards;
  • "Thriller" entered the Guinness Book of Records.

It was during that period that the world saw the famous "moonwalk". To this day, it remains unsurpassed by anyone, no matter how they try to repeat it. At the same time, the newly formed MTV music channel launched Jackson's clips into rotation, which revolutionized the music world. Michael recorded duets with Paul McCartney, Lionel Richie. He donated a huge amount of money from his work to charity.

With grandiose concerts, Jackson performed for millions of people: his performances were a holiday, a great show. One of these concerts entered the Guinness Book of Records as having gathered more than five hundred thousand people. Another record took place after the release of the album "Bad": five songs topped the Billboard chart.

King of pop music

"The King of Pop" - that's how Elizabeth Taylor dubbed Michael Jackson in 1989. But incessant enthusiasm and a flurry of applause have the other side of the coin. Jackson tried more and more to retire, and even his father and brothers could not enter his guarded ranch without a pass, while the entrance was not limited for the singer's mother. The unprecedented success of the album "Thriller" required Jackson to "keep up the mark", so he had to work hard. Such a "hermit" life gave rise to endless rumors around the "king".

Continuing his unique musical procession, in 1991 the artist released the disc "Dangerous", and before that he presented a video for the legendary song "Black or White". Now the geography of his concert tours began to expand: the countries of Asia, Eastern Europe, and Africa appeared on the lists. The inhabitants of these parts of the planet met their idol with delight. Michael got to Russia. In 1995, the king of pop presented a double album: HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I.

Jackson in Russia

1993 ... in the rain at the Luzhniki Stadium in front of an army of Russian fans, Michael Jackson gave his concert. Huge sums were spent on the organization of the concert by Dessa, and after a while the company went bankrupt. The stay in Moscow for Jackson and fans was also marked by the composition "Stranger in Moscow", which subsequently entered the album "History".

The next concert of the legendary artist took place in 1996, he performed at the Dynamo stadium.

modern times

The beginning of the new millennium was not the easiest for the brilliant singer, a scandal broke out around him related to the molestation of minors. Constant excitement, of course, affects the psyche, performance, however, Jackson never ceases to create, amaze and delight.

The album "Invincible" (2001) did not become as commercially successful as the previous one, but the work was done colossally. Chris Tucker, Carlos Santana participated in the recording, and later Jackson gathered stars at his benefit performance. On the 30th anniversary of his musical activity at his concert, Jackson again collects the “five”, with which it all began, and the group “The Jacksons” again sings for fans.

After the scandal that erupted in 2003, Michael set about creating a single in memory of the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Despite the fact that the singer was acquitted on charges, many stars did not express a desire to participate in the recording of the composition.

The five-disc album "Michael Jackson: The Ultimate Collection", released in 2004, absorbed almost the entire period of Jackson's work. And in 2008, Michael worked on recording songs for the next disc. Then, of course, no one thought that this was his last opportunity to give millions of fans another album.

Personal life

Jackson's first wife was the daughter of Elvis Presley. Michael and Lisa-Maria decided to register their marriage in 1994 in the Dominican Republic. The whole action was a secret, and after a few months this news shocked the public and caused a mixed opinion.

Two years later, their union broke up. Despite the fact that the former spouses maintained a warm relationship, the divorce was not easy for Jackson. Debbie Rowe, a nurse he met at his doctor, helped him overcome depression. In 1996, the singer married for the second time, and already in 1997, Debbie gave birth to their first child, Prince Michael Jackson. A year later, they had a daughter, Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson.

In 1999, this marriage also came to an end. But Jackson was able to experience the happiness of fatherhood again. In 2002, a surrogate mother, whose name remained a secret, gave birth to the artist's second son. They named him Prince Michael Jackson II. The singer tried to hide his children from the annoying press and prying eyes, and when they left, they even wore masks.

Scandals

Serious scandals flared up several times in the life of a pop idol, he was accused of child molestation.

In 1993, the case ended with the reconciliation of the parties. Jackson paid $22 million to Jordan Chandler's family, after which the conflict was settled. And the essence of the accusation was that allegedly Michael Jackson forced a thirteen-year-old boy to touch his genitals.

Ten years later, a scandal broke out again involving the king of pop, he was accused of a similar crime against Gavin Arvizo. This time, the proceedings ended with Jackson's acquittal. The singer himself claimed that the Arvizo family wants a repeat of a decade of history, when the Chandler family was able to get rich on this scandal.

Stories of accusations of pedophilia, of course, had a negative impact on Jackson's reputation. In 2005, he sold his Neverland ranch, where all the events allegedly took place. This estate was the embodiment of his dreams, in which he created everything that a child could dream of. But this fairy tale came to an end, Michael moved into a rented mansion.

After the death of the singer, the history of the past again made itself felt. In 2009, Jordan Chandler said that he made up all the accusations, and his father forced him to confess. In the autumn of the same year, the head of the family shot himself.

Changes in appearance

Fans began to notice changes in the appearance of their idol in 1987. Later, Jackson admitted that he was dependent on the genetic disease vitiligo, which is manifested by discoloration of skin areas. That is why the singer's skin "whitened" every year. With the help of a thick layer of makeup, he hid the flaws, and Michael denied talk that he was deliberately trying to turn into "white".

Jackson's facial features also gradually changed: cheekbones, nose, forehead, chin. The star admitted only a few operations, including on the nose. Many others were vehemently denied.

Death of the King of Pop

The news of the death of the greatest musician of our time instantly spread around the world on June 25, 2009. And the investigation began just as quickly. As it turned out, Jackson's personal doctor Conrad Murray found the singer almost lifeless in bed. Attempts to restore cardiac activity were unsuccessful and he called an ambulance.

Guilty of the death of the artist recognized his doctor. The investigation showed that death was due to an overdose of propofol. Murray was sentenced to four years in prison for manslaughter.

The death of Michael Jackson was a tragedy not only for his fans, but for all of humanity. Millions of people could not realize that the legendary artist was gone, because he became an integral part of his era.

Farewell to the pop king took place on July 7, 2009. The ceremony was broadcast live, it was attended only by relatives and friends of Michael. The life of the great artist came to an end, but his name went down in history forever. “From the moment I was born, my dad was the best father you could imagine. I love him so much…” said daughter Paris. The funeral took place only on September 3, 2009 at the Los Angeles Forest Line Cemetery.
