Two teenagers, Taki Tachibana and Mitsuha Miyamizu, simultaneously talk about having strange dreams. They do not remember what happened in them, but in the morning they feel a sense of loss. Since then, they have been searching, without knowing whom. It all started on the day when the stars fell from the sky.

Mitsuha wakes up. Actually it's not her. Taki is surprised to find himself in a girl's body. He touches his chest. Yotsuha, Mitsuha's younger sister, calls her for breakfast. She says that Mitsuha is behaving like crazy again.

Mitsuha goes down. She has breakfast with her younger sister and grandmother (Hitoha is the girls' guardian). Hitoha and Yotsuha note that today Mitsuha has become herself again, although the day before she was somehow strange. There is a message on television that a comet with an orbital period of more than a thousand years can be seen in the sky in a few months.

On the way to school, Mitsuha meets up with her friends Katsuhiko and Sayaka. In the street of their small town located in the mountains, the local mayor is giving a campaign speech, who is counting on re-election. The mayor yells at Mitsuha not to slouch. This is Mitsuha's father. For some reason, he doesn't live with his family.

At the lesson, Mitsuha flips through his notebook and finds a note on one of the pages: “Who are you?” She later finds out that the day before she forgot her class, couldn't remember where her locker was. Mitsuha is surprised. On the way home, friends complain about the backwater they live in. The town of Itomori is so small that there are no restaurants, no bookstores, and no other entertainment. Mitsuha dreams of moving to Tokyo after graduation. Katsuhiko suggests going to a cafe, the girls are delighted with the idea. In fact, the young man leads his girlfriends to a vending machine next to a park bench, treats them to soda.

The mayor meets with Katsuhiko's father. He is the head of the local building union and supports his election campaign. The father tells his son that he will have to help him next weekend, which annoys Katsuhiko.

In the evening, Mitsuha and Yotsuha perform the ceremony at their family temple. The sisters dance a ritual dance and make kuchikamizake. A man complains that he found a toothpick in a pizza. He expects that he will not have to pay for his order. Taki's senior colleague, a girl named Okudera, assures the customer that the dish will be provided at the establishment's expense as an apology. During the showdown, an unpleasant client discreetly makes a slit in Okudera's skirt with a clerical knife. Later, the girl tells Taki that she acted according to the instructions, although the client clearly set everything up. Taki notices that Okudera's skirt is ruined, he suggests that she sew it up. Okudera is surprised at how neatly Taki handled it, he made the seam in the form of a cute embroidery. The girl says that Taki has changed lately, she is fascinated by the fact that he has feminine traits.

The next day, Taki returns to his normal state, he does not remember anything about what happened the day before. Colleagues are burning with curiosity: how is their relationship with Okudera developing? Taki has no idea what they're talking about. Okudera arrives, says that yesterday was a wonderful day, winks at Taki, making the boy blush.

By this point, Taki and Mitsuha are aware that they switch bodies during sleep, and make mutual attempts to make life easier in such cases. They write notes to each other on smartphones and notepads, each setting rules to follow in someone else's life. Mitsuha's advice most often concerns etiquette. Taki tells you how to carry out the duties of the job. He asks Mitsuha to spend less money on sweets as he has to take extra shifts at the restaurant because of it. Despite their differences, both find the situation amusing. Taki makes it so that classmates begin to pay attention to Mitsuha. Mitsuha, on behalf of Taki, is flirting with might and main with Okudera. At the same time, both teenagers claim in their dialogues that they are not going to start relationships with the opposite sex.

One day, Taki gets into Mitsuha's body on a holiday. Hitoha leads both granddaughters to the forest where the sacred place is located. Grandmother talks about musubi, the family guardian deity. The braid-amulet, woven from many threads, according to their religion, symbolizes the continuous flow of time, the connection of human destinies. Even food and drink, once in the human body, becomes a particle of his soul. Granddaughters leave in the sacred cave what they made during the sake ritual as an offering to the musubi.

Taki wakes up to find a message from Okudera on his smartphone. They have an appointment. The young man is embarrassed, he looks through the notes and finds out that the meeting was made by Mitsuha, it should take place in 15 minutes. Taki rushes on a date.

Mitsuha is preparing for the city festival, tying her hair with a ribbon-amulet. She knows that Taki and Okudera have a date now. The girl looks in the mirror and sees that tears are flowing from her eyes. At first she is surprised, and then she realizes that in fact she would like to meet Taki herself. She herself did not notice how she fell in love with a young man whom she had never seen.

Taki and Okudera go to a restaurant. The young man is nervous, he does not know how to behave, what to talk about. His thoughts are somewhere far away. At the photo exhibition, he sees a selection of pictures, these landscapes remind him of the town where Mitsuha lives. Okudera says that it looks like Taki is no longer in love with her. Its owner recognizes in the drawings of Itomori, he comes from there. Taki asks where this town is. The man sadly reports that Itomori was completely destroyed three years ago as a result of the fall of a meteorite - a fragment of a comet. More than 500 people died then.

Taki and his friends arrive at the scene of the tragedy. Located near a mountain lake, the town lies in ruins. Taki tries to confirm the reality of his communication with Mitsuha, he shows his friends the notes that she left on his smartphone, but they all mysteriously disappear. Taki doesn't know what to think. The trio go to the local library, where the friends discover the lists of the dead. Mitsuha, her sister, her friends are all dead. Taki is shocked and heartbroken. How is he connected to the girl who died three years ago?

Friends stay overnight at the hotel. Tsukasa asks Okudera's opinion on the whole story. She confirms that Taki is acting a little strange, but in some ways this girl has made him a better person. Mitsuha's whole life flashes before his eyes: her birth, a happy life with her parents, the birth of a younger sister, the illness and death of her mother, her father's refusal to support the religious traditions of the family, Hitoha's quarrel with her son-in-law, her grandmother's care for her granddaughters, Mitsuha's death as a result of a comet fall.

Taki wakes up in Mitsuha's body. He understands that this is his last chance. In the evening, the comet is supposed to destroy the city. When Hitoha talks to her granddaughter, she realizes that someone else has moved into Mitsuha. Grandmother says that this happens from time to time in their family. Taki (Mitsuha) tells Hitoha about the comet, she thinks that no one will believe her granddaughter anyway. Taki meets with Mitsuha's friends, tells them about the impending danger. Katsuhiko and Sayaka find it hard to believe, but they are willing to help. Friends develop a plan. Katsuhiko intends to take explosives in the company of his father, mine the local substation. The explosion will disable the emergency warning system. Sayaka must go to the school's offline radio room and announce an emergency evacuation. People need to leave the epicenter of a future disaster, take refuge in the school building, which will be outside the affected area. Friends ask Mitsuha to convince her father, the mayor, of the seriousness of the threat.

Taki goes to the mayor. But he decides that his daughter has gone mad. Enraged, Taki lashes out at the mayor, grabbing his tie. Both suddenly freeze. The father doesn't understand. Mitsuha? Who are you? Taki meets Yotsuhu on the street. She says that yesterday her sister suddenly packed up and left for Tokyo. What's going on with you, Mitsuha? Taki thinks that Mitsuha is now in his body near the sacred cave. He hurries there.

Near the cave, Mitsuha wakes up in Taki's body. The city has disappeared. So I died then? Mitsuha remembers the day she went to Tokyo. Taki wakes up in his body on the outskirts of the ruined Itomori. He does not remember why he came here, and forgot the name of the girl, thoughts about which haunt him. He goes home to Tokyo.

In the past, Mitsuha carries out Taki's plan. He and his friends blow up the substation, leaving the city without electricity. Sayaka announces from the school's radio room that forest fires have started in the area, and the town's population should take shelter in the school building. Some heed the warning, but many do not believe the threat is real. The mayor is trying to figure out where the unauthorized broadcast is coming from. Sayaka is discovered, broadcast stopped. Katsuhiko tells Mitsuho that the only hope for salvation is to convince his father that he is right. She runs to the mayor, but she is tormented by the thought that she has forgotten the name of the young man with whom she felt some kind of connection. She looks at her hand. But Taki instead of his name wrote on the palm of his hand: I love you. Mitsuha, all in tears, runs to her father. A meteorite separated from the comet falls on the city, destroying it.

Five years later. Taki graduated from high school and architecture college. He tries to find a job, goes to interviews. But his idealistic talk about how cities should be built so that buildings don't collapse in the event of natural disasters doesn't make potential employers want to hire a naive job seeker.

At the diner, Taki overhears a young couple at a nearby table discussing their upcoming wedding. This is Sayaka and Katsuhiko, they also survived thanks to Taki and Mitsuha. For a moment, Taki feels a vague sense of belonging to the fate of these people, but brushes aside slurred thoughts.

Every day, on the streets of the city, Taki unconsciously searches through the eyes of girls whose hair is tied with a ribbon.

Finally, one day, Taki and Mitsuho see each other in different subway cars. They are not sure yet, but they feel that there is some kind of connection between them. Both get off the train, looking for each other in the crowd. Taki sees a girl coming up the stairs, he passes by. But she turns and starts to descend. This is Mitsuha. Taki can no longer endure this uncertainty. He asks if they have met before. The girl admits that she feels the same way. They simultaneously ask the question: “What is your name?” It remains to be hoped that Taki and Mitsuha will be able to remember everything and will now be together.

Last year, the anime “Your Name” triumphantly conquered cinemas from the wonderful director Makoto Shinkai, who had previously been in the hearts of a narrow circle of connoisseurs. The most beautiful, highest-grossing, and highly acclaimed feature film in anime history since Miyazaki.

The success resulted in $350 million at the box office. Only My Neighbor Totoro achieved more. Rumors about a new masterpiece from Japan were spread by word of mouth. And now Shinkai is called the new hope and the most shining star of Japanese animation.

There hasn't been a Blu-ray release for over a year. Wanted to ride more. Nevertheless, everyone who wanted to watch in accessible poor quality. Even dubbing arrived in time, Russian and Ukrainian. Honestly, I don't understand these people.

Naturally, I waited for the release on discs, which happened at the end of July 2017. That's just it. 638,394 copies sold in the first week! Crazy a lot. It's time to appreciate this masterpiece.

I have been a fan of Makoto Shinkai for 10 years now. I'm not interested in his sudden fame, wonderful pictures came out without big budgets. Five Centimeters Per Second is one of the first on my list of favorite works of fiction. However, I don't like Miyazaki. Throw tomatoes.

After such an introduction, I want to talk about Shinkai's latest work in a not positive way. By the end of the article will go big spoilers! It is assumed that you have already watched the movie.

Let me tell you right away about the appearance, so that later I don’t remember about it once again. Too obvious. Flawless graphics. Finally well-drawn characters. Although it is a pity that their style is specially close to the grandees Miyazaki and Hosoda. Previously, there were original faces. Well, backdrops, landscapes, nature, cities - the highest quality in the world. Here are 6 screenshots of visual enjoyment for you.








I'll save the compliments for the end of the article. Let's go through the plot to understand why I did NOT like the last film of the "artist above the clouds".

Shinkai made what is usually described as a "summer blockbuster". A silly, drawn-out compilation of all the good things, but hackneyed, looking flawless. commercial product.

The set of templates was very conspicuous. Both anime and personally Sinkaevsky. Cut off your hair, suffer about life in a remote village, walk past each other in a big city, look at an unusual celestial phenomenon. Light targets. It is enough to throw proven moves into history - and they will work. There are a lot of them here, they are like knots between beautiful backgrounds.

Repetition of the same artistic techniques from old works, such as sun glare against the background of a girl rushing forward. The same theme of love at a distance, forgetting and parting. But the theses once expressed are simply repeated without the development of thought. On the contrary, it is a step backwards compared to Five Centimeters.

The jokes are repeated, the lines of minor characters are blurred. The story has grown in breadth, and the author devotes the same amount of time to static frames and everyday episodes. As a result, the story suffers from sketchiness, and emotional moments do not carry sufficient semantic load.

The Garden of Fine Words had a bad script, Catchers of the Forgotten Voices had a raw approach, The Voice of a Distant Star had no budget. Here are my main complaints about the production. Although, it would seem, where there should be no misses.

Without preliminarily explaining anything, the story begins with the fact that a boy and a girl periodically switch bodies. They do not show their ordinary life in their body, but introduce it through the eyes of another stunned hero.

The order of the scenes is well chosen. The viewer gradually understands what is happening and approaches the characters, asking them the same questions. You might even think that such successful decisions accompany the entire timing, but this is a deceptively good plot.

High school student Tachibana Taki lives in Tokyo, is fond of drawing and architecture, and in the evenings works part-time in a prestigious Italian restaurant. Miyamizu Mitsuha is the same age. Performs ritual dances in the temple of his grandmother, endures the alienation of his father, the mayor, suffers from consuming boredom. Both dream of getting out of their surroundings: the wilderness and the exhausting metropolis.

The opposite of desires that are fulfilled with a change of body is poorly shown. But there are many funny situations related to work and friends. Mitsuha gains fame as a tomboy, and Taki manages to start a relationship with a restaurant colleague, Okudera.

The nature of mystical migrations is not explained. Maybe these are dreams? But no! The film suffers from understatement in general. Direct answers are buried in the plot soup.

When the specter of romance first appeared, remember, the girl cried at the realization that the boy was now on a date arranged by her, it came out of nowhere.

I'm sorry, this is the key moment of the movie, and it's a failure. Interaction through text messages is shown very briefly, in a generalized way. Adaptation to the difficulties of life in another body is shown in detail - the rest is removed to a distant background. And then suddenly, on a date, Taki is told that it can be seen from him - he loves another!

Where did the understanding of falling in love go from Shinkai's early work? It’s just written here according to the plot - so, accept, they have already fallen in love.

This happened at the 40th minute, when, again, there was nothing between the heroes except adaptation to difficulties. Not a hint of affection, friendship, sympathy - nothing!

Somewhere in the same minutes closer to the middle, they stop changing bodies. Why? Again, no explanation. Unlike good works, where, you know, plot twists have a reason.

The journey of the protagonist and the friends who followed him was funny. Although there was no reason to go with him. They tried to find the city from Taki's drawing. I'm sorry, what? He does not know where the person lives in whose body he spent several days? Yes, the first question that everyone would ask: where am I?

In general, the turning point revelation is that three years ago, the city of Itomori, together with Mitsuha, completely demolished the fallen fragment of a comet. Time travel was added to the resettlement. Mitsuha died, and the events that Taki saw through her eyes took place three years ago before the disaster.

So we can save her! And yes, the film is moving in the right direction - preventing the death of people by a person from the future. Although the migrations stopped, they managed to get into the object-oritic Itomori because the hero came to a mystical place and drank sake prepared by the priestess of the temple ... Do not ask. Maybe everything that happens next is his drunken delirium.

Saving the city was interesting. If we omit the reactions of some people who did not allow me to feel what was happening. Why did friends believe in a meteorite fall if Mitsuha did not tell them about moving into another body? Why was the savior surprised at her father's refusal if... she didn't tell him about the transmigration to another body?

Why is she, a fool (fool), does not explain anything to her sister, the guys, but only shouts: “Run!” And she dumps herself ... The fact that she went to that secret place, of course, did not hurt, but then it looked like the girl was stupid, and then she gave a tear.

The episode with the rescue was supposed to be dynamic, but turned into some kind of confusion with the clarification of mental anguish. Again, bad performance. But the role was played by the fact that school friends were fond of radio, and the heroine is the daughter of the mayor.

Next, we are thrown in time, showing the last twist of the plot. Mitsuha went to Tokyo and accidentally (!) met her boyish alter ego in the train car. But how can one feel this if we have just been torn out of the subplot with the salvation of the city ?! That is, the city will explode in a couple of hours, but this is not as important as a girl riding a bicycle to a boy.

For some reason, traveling - the author does not explain why! Doesn't speak to the viewer. He just gives a scene that is built in such a way that it should touch, and on this he is satisfied with the result. Even the scene where she gives him a shoelace in the past is fake. Her movement, to throw her "red thread of fate" at him, was too harsh and taken from the ceiling.

The bike sprint leads to a place "where time flows differently". For the first and last time, Taki and Mitsuha have a dialogue that is spent on jokes. It was impossible to do without a panty shot during a seemingly exciting moment with running? It's a nitpick, but the movie has a lot of problems in the little things.

By the way, how did the heroine so quickly delve into the plan to save the city by returning to her body? I ask so many questions because there are no direct answers. The film is intended for a very unassuming audience.

Taki suddenly begins to forget the name of "beloved" and why he came to the place of the former city. Why forget? "More drama!" shouted Shinkai, tossing aside a piece of paper covered with a normal plot.

It is also unclear why the heroine fought so hard for evacuation, given that she only saw a crater instead of a city for a couple of minutes. And then, I thought at that time about the boy. Given that she was beginning to forget the boy, what she saw might have seemed like a dream. That's right this time. And even this crater did not give a clear understanding of what was happening - the boy did not say anything important during the reunion.

And now the climax has arrived. It was not possible to evacuate people. Judging by the sky, less than an hour is left before the fall of the celestial body. Mitsuha with his accomplices Katsuhiko and Sayaka blew up the power plant and announced on the radio tower that the townspeople were gathering at the school. Didn't roll.

The mayor is doing his best to calm people down after a power outage, when his daughter walks in with a serious face. There is not the slightest possibility that he would believe her, announce an evacuation for no reason. After all, he refused, and here she is also a criminal. What will happen?

Nothing will happen! The author of the script put a bolt on his plot, did not come up with a denouement and just cut it out! If you haven't seen the movie, it's hard to believe. At the moment when everything is bad, the scene ends, and only from the news in the future we learn that most of the inhabitants were saved for unknown reasons.

The main problem of the film is that I did not believe for a second in the relationship of the main characters. If they developed against the backdrop of a global plot, consisting of clarifying the nature of mystical phenomena, a falling meteorite, lines of secondary characters, it would be great. But the plot does not care about all these interesting things. They are shown schematically in the background. What are the hundreds of lives hanging in the balance when you can stand and joke about the boy drinking sake from the girl's saliva?



Shinkai's self-parody was reduced to a complete repetition of the ending of Five Centimeters Per Second. Only without the train. But there the children were separated by time and circumstances, and here "well, they just forgot, because mysticism." The scene ended in much the same way - they parted, barely turning around.

But this is not a masterpiece of 2005, so after 5 minutes of screen time the characters saw each other, being in different cars, and rushed off to look after disembarking. By chance. In Tokyo. When we were given to understand that they forgot everything.

Not a hint of logical reasoning. happy end.

Your Name is a very average film, plagued by a flawed script and misplaced accents. I don't mean to call it bad. From the smooth scenes of everyday life you get pleasure; from brightness, kindness and unhurried pace it becomes warmer in the soul.

There are really outstanding graphics here. I will definitely remember the shots of the meteorite fall, sunny Tokyo, traditional and western interiors.

But what do I remember about the story: a joke about pawing myself in the morning, repeated four times, lines about shoelaces intertwining, like time itself, because she got it, and stupid things while saving the city.

Here actions, emotions and events just happen. Because the author wanted to show beautiful scenes, and not build a coherent plot. As a result, the good scenes themselves turned out to be strained and theatrical.

I hope you enjoyed Your Name. It is unlikely that my criticism expresses popular opinion, and the film has a message. I just want to believe that success will spur Shinkai to do something better, and not stop at the established format.
