Mikhail Konstantinovich Shcherbakov (born March 27, 1963) is a Russian poet, songwriter and performer.

Born in the city of Obninsk. She has been writing songs since 1978. Lives in Moscow since 1982. Graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Moscow University in 1988. Since that time, he has been a professional songwriter.

The poet and singer was born on March 27, 1963 in the city of Obninsk, Kaluga Region, 105 kilometers from Moscow. He studied at one of the schools in his hometown, from which he graduated in 1980. According to Mikhail himself, the poet became interested in creativity already in the eighth grade, then he began to create songs on serious topics. Shcherbakov made his first recordings in his last year of study at an educational institution. However, the poet almost does not remember what he wrote about in childhood. Mikhail's great successes in his work were influenced by his environment: they were serious people who were a source of inspiration and encouraged him to graduate from the university in order to get a good education. Thus, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Moscow University at the Department of Russian Language and Literature, having studied there for 6 years. Studying did him good, because at that time the poet was fond of books, read them in large quantities.

After graduating from the university, Mikhail took up the matter seriously: he began to perform professionally on stage with his works. Julius Chersanovich Kim - Soviet and Russian poet, composer and screenwriter expressed his opinion about Mikhail Konstantinovich Shcherbakov. In his speech before Shcherbakov's concert, he admitted that he puts the poet on a par with such famous personalities in Russian poetry as Joseph Brodsky and David Samoilov. Julius Kirsanovich admires the fact that Mikhail devotes his whole life to writing poetry, not being distracted by extraneous matters and not doing anything else.   2. 1982-1988 - about 100 songs were written, 80 of them were subsequently released on CD, the author continues to perform about 20 songs of this period at concerts, sometimes apologizing for the imperfection of the texts; about 10 poems of this period are known that did not become songs.
  3. 1989-1995 - about 130 songs were written, 128 of them were released on CD; the books "Cherry Jam", "There was no poison" (both 1990), "Another Life" (1996) were released.
  4. 1996-2005 - written and published (by the spring of 2006) 80 songs; new recordings of about 120 previously written songs have also been released.
  5. 2006-2011 - 18 new songs were written and performed at concerts, 11 of them were included in the album. The book "Thirteen Discs" (2007) was published.

Mikhail was born in Obninsk. He studied at the fourth Obninsk school and graduated from it in 1980. Already in the eighth grade, according to Shcherbakov, he began to write serious songs. In the last class, he began to make the first records, as there was always a need to listen to himself from the outside. To his surprise, all records instantly dispersed.

In those years, the novice bard still did not know how to work on the word, moreover, he did not consider that it was necessary. He does not remember his early songs, he never performs, although at that time he wrote more than a hundred songs.

The company around him was quite serious. It was these people who inspired Michael to start studying academic wisdom. It was they who made it clear to the novice bard that none of them would take him seriously and would not communicate with him on an equal footing until he graduated from the University. Where exactly to do, Shcherbakov did not care. Moscow State University was considered the best among all. That's where Michael went. It was also important for him that this university was located not far from the Kyiv railway station. For him, as a visitor, this factor mattered. He was nineteen when he became a student at Moscow State University, enrolling in the Faculty of Philology. The graduation diploma was received by Shcherbakov in 1988. Bard recalls that he studied without distinction. Studying at the University had a positive effect on him, because at that time he read a lot.

After graduating from Moscow State University, Mikhail Shcherbakov became a professional singer-songwriter. He started performing in concerts. Sometimes these were solo performances, sometimes together with Mikhail Starodubtsev. They made notes with the same Starodubtsev.

Throughout his life, this poet and performer earned exclusively by literary work. Although immediately after Moscow State University, he worked for a short time as the artistic director of one of the musical groups, which he does not want and is even ashamed to remember.

The genre in which Shcherbakov works, he himself calls simply “song”, without going into such concepts as “author's song” or “home-made song”.

The word bard is not very applicable to Shcherbakov, it is "narrow" for him. It would be more correct to call him a poet who serves the cause of poetry. He understands his occupation as a kind of mission, treats it with full responsibility, putting forward high quality requirements.

Shcherbakov started very early and immediately powerful. Already from his first songs it became clear that he was a talented author and performer. Since he did not start any of the bards. Michael asserted his personality, his theme and his own intonation. This theme and intonation turned out to be understandable and close to the eighties, since his songs express their inner world, one might say - the world, if not of a whole generation, then of a considerable part of it.

Criticism

I am especially flattered by the mention next to Shcherbakov, whom I consider an absolute genius, the main phenomenon in modern Russian poetry, without any discounts on the genre. He may not be a song, but it was poetry that moved forward, inventing his crazy prosody, and the guitar only helped him. True, I do not think that we have direct similarities,<...>- but if there is, it is happiness.

Man was conceived with the expectation of difficult times, with the expectation of being the best bard in Russia... But then Russia turned into incomprehensible what, and the bards became incomprehensible what. And Shcherbakov chose this path - he goes into some very distant spheres, very bravely experiments with meter and rhythm. Yes, he has many failures, but nothing can be done - a person develops.

The fact is that the word "bard" to Mikhail Shcherbakov, oddly enough, is not as easily applicable as to many of the well-known names I have already listed. The word "bard" is a bit narrow for him. Of course, first of all, this is a poet. And his attitude to the matter is called very high and, it seems to me, a very precise word: “service”.<<...>> This is more than a poetic need to write poetry and songs. This is the concept of one's business as a kind of mission, with a very high responsibility and with a very high demand for the quality of this business. This is what, it seems to me, distinguishes Misha from this common brotherhood of bards.
