The walking dead season 6 comics read. The Walking Dead (comic)

04.03.2020

The Walking Dead is one of the most successful TV shows of all time. The show is based on the comic book series of the same name. Many characters, settings, and storylines have been carried over from the comic to the series. However, the creators of the series did not cleanly copy the graphic novel and offered some rethinking of the story.

Here are 11 major differences between the show and The Walking Dead comic book series:

1 In the show, Rick still has 2 arms.

In the comic, the Governor cut off Rick's right arm after Rick refused to give out information about the location of his camp.

Unlike other changes the series has undergone, this decision was made for practical reasons, as having to permanently change the main character's appearance would be too costly. Andrew Lincoln has repeatedly stated that he wants his character to lose his arm, and for two seasons he tried to convince the creators to take this step, but they decided to refuse such a plot twist.

2 Romantic relationship

There are couples in the comics that didn't make it into the show, and there are relationships that appeared in the show that weren't in the graphic novel. In the comics, Andrea was never in a relationship with The Governor, but she dated Dale and then Rick. In the TV show, Michonne started a relationship with Rick, but in the comics, she dated Morgan and Tyreese, who in turn left Carol. Abraham and Rosita were a couple in the series and in the comic, but in the TV show the couple broke up because of Abraham's feelings for Sasha, not because of an Alexandrian woman named Holly. To top it all off, Carl dated Sophia in the comic.

3 Character death

In the series, Bob is attacked by cannibals who eat his leg, to which he only taunts them, saying that he was bitten and they are eating infected meat. In the comic, this fate befell Dale (who in the series had already died by that time). In the comic book, Tyreese was beheaded by the Governor with a katana, and Hershel died in the TV show.

4 In the series, Shane received a larger role.

Shane had a relatively small role in the comic. He acted as the first antagonist, but died in the first volume, even before the group left Atlanta. His role in the television series spanned 2 seasons and he acted as Rick's friend/foe throughout that time. While Shane's relationship with Laurie lasted only one night in the comic, their relationship was much more intense in the series, which created further tension between Shane, Laurie, and Rick.

Shane's death is yet another example of how the series has changed the history of comics. In the series, Rick kills Shane in self-defense, and then Carl shoots a zombie-turned Shane. In the comic, Carl shoots Shane after he sees him attack his father, after which Rick kills the zombie Shane.

5 Birth and death of Judith

In the television show, Lori Grimes dies after giving birth to Judith in prison. In the comic, Lori and Judith have a completely different fate. When the Governor attacked Woodbury, Lilly shot Laurie, who was carrying Judith to safety in her arms. Falling, Laurie's body covered the newborn baby, which killed Judith.

In the series, Judith currently lives in Alexandria. It is not clear who is her biological father, Rick or Shane. But Rick is not concerned about this issue and loves Jujit with all his heart.

6 Daryl Dixon

Daryl Dixon is the clear favorite character of the audience. The wild popularity that the hashtag spawned - if Daryl dies, we will start a riot. He is unparalleled in the comic book series. It was created specifically for actor Norman Reedus after his audition for the role of Rick. The creative team liked the actor's performance so much that they created the character specifically for him.

7 T-Dog, Beth Green and Sasha Williams

Daryl is not the only character that was created specifically for the television series. T-Dog (Theodore Douglas), Beth Green, and Sasha Williams have appeared on television and are unparalleled in comics.

While Hershel's other children were in the comic, Beth only appeared in the TV show, partially filling in for Sophia, who died in the TV show but not in the comics. Sonicua Martin-Green, who plays Sasha, auditioned for the role of Michonne, but went on to play the role of a character created specifically for her. After Andrea's death on the show, Sasha gained some of Andrea's personality and skills.

8 Terminus and Wolves weren't in the comics

Terminus and Wolves have comic book counterparts, but their names and characters have been changed. Terminus was inspired by the Hunters, a group of warlike cannibals. While the Hunters constantly roamed, Terminus became a place that was a large-scale trap for survivors. The Wolves are based on the Scavengers, an antagonistic group that threatened the security of Alexandria.

9 Douglas Monroe and Dianna Monroe

Douglas Monroe was the leader of Alexandria in the comics, Dianna Monroe in the TV series. Douglas and Dianna are so different that it is impossible to imagine that these two will find a common language when they meet.

Both are former congressmen, but while Douglas is a promiscuous man who has tried to convince several members of Rick's group to sleep with him, Deanna is a pragmatic realist who is constantly looking for ways to improve the lives of the people of Alexandria.

10 In the comics, Sofia is alive and Carol is dead.

In the second season of The Walking Dead, Sofia died suddenly, but in the comic book series, Sofia is still alive. Maggie and Glenn took custody of her after her mother's death, and Sophia, as already mentioned, dated Carl.

In the comics, Carol commits suicide after discovering that Tyreese cheated on her with Michonne. That Carol is a completely different person - she is playful and flirtatious and even offered Rick and Laurie a threesome. Instead, "TV Carol" is calculating and manipulative.

11 Andrea

Prior to her death in the television series, Andrea was a highly unpopular character. But in the comics, Andrea didn't die partly because she was never in a relationship with The Governor. Instead, he becomes a highly skilled marksman, which in the series reflects Sasha's development. She also dates Rick, so long that Carl calls her mom.

And she came looking for shelter. Her appearance causes a significant rift within the group, and Rick's role as leader is questioned as others begin to fear for his sanity.

The Best Defense (25-30)

Rick, Michonne, and Glenn, whom Rick met in Atlanta, leave the prison in search of other survivors after they see a helicopter flying. This search leads them to a small town called Woodbury. It houses a heavily armed and well-organized group of survivors, led by a man named The Governor. The Governor takes them prisoner, maiming Rick and raping Michonne.

This Sorrowful Life (31-36)

Rick, Glenn and Michonne manage to get out of Woodbury with the help of other survivors who want to be freed from the brutal rule of the Governor. They arrive safely in a prison besieged by hordes of zombies. The reunited group fights them, trying with all their might to prevent its destruction.

The Calm Before (37-42)

The group is trying to recover from a nightmare in Woodbury. The relationship between the survivors continues to develop. Rick's wife, Lori, is going through the final stages of her pregnancy. All this time, the group is preparing for the cruel revenge of the Governor and the crazy inhabitants of his city.

Made To Suffer (43-48)

Left mutilated after Michonne's assassination attempt and recovering from his injuries, The Governor tells his men a tall tale about the supposedly evil inmates of the prison. Soon scouts from Woodbury find the location of the prison, and the Governor and his army arrive there. The assault begins. However, the people living in the prison do not intend to give up and rebuff the Governor's army. Having lost a dozen people, the Governor retreats. Rick's team also has losses: Axel, Andrea and he himself are injured.

Tyreese and Michonne decide to immediately counterattack and flee from prison to the Governor's location. Their plan fails. Tyreese is captured, and after unsuccessful negotiations with Rick to surrender the prison, the Governor decapitates Tyreese with Michonne's sword, who managed to escape.

Meanwhile, Dale, Andrea, Glenn, Maggie, Allen's kids and Sophia are leaving prison in a trailer, fearing another attack. Their fears are justified: this time the attack is more violent. Unable to withstand the pressure, the defenders of the prison die, including Lori with her newborn daughter. Only Rick and Carl manage to get away. But the cruelty of the Governor turns against him. One of the fighters, seeing the killed Lori and Judith, realizes that he was following the monster and kills his former leader. After that, the remnants of the Governor's army barricade themselves in the prison block, where they are trapped without food and ammunition.

Here We Remain / Life goes on (49-54)

Having lost his wife and daughter, Rick is completely devastated. Together with Carl, he gets to a small town. There are no living people there and Rick and Carl take refuge in one of the houses. All this time, zombies are trying to break into them. Rick, still recovering from the wounds received during the first storming of the prison, falls seriously ill. Karl, who is only eight years old, is forced to protect their temporary shelter and take care of his sick father.

Rick gets better soon. After running out of food taken out of prison and found in abandoned houses, Rick and his son go hunting in the nearby forest. During another hunt for game, they find a car in good condition and take it for themselves. Once there is a case - in one of the abandoned houses the phone rings. Rick, rushing over there, picks up the phone. At the other end of the wire, a woman tells him about a group of survivors and offers to join them. But Rick has already gone through enough to once again trust no one knows who. Nevertheless, he continues to call back with a stranger. Soon he begins to hallucinate, as if he is talking on the phone with his dead wife.

Some time later, Michonne, who escaped from the Governor, comes to their hideout, after which they decide to go in search of people who left the prison after the first attack of the Governor. In the car Rick found, they hit the road and soon find Dale, Andrea, Glenn, Maggie and the kids at Hershel's farm.

What We Become / What We Have Become (55-60)

Rick, Carl and Michonne are once again among friends, although the meeting is far from joyful due to the news Rick brings. For Maggie, what happened turns into a shock when she learns that all members of her family are dead. Dale is also unhappy, he becomes afraid of Rick and confesses this to Andrea.

One night, new living people appear at the farm - former military Abraham, his girlfriend Rosita and a man named Eugene, who introduced himself as a scientist. They inform the inhabitants of the farm that they are heading to Washington, where, according to Eugene, a safe zone has been created, and offer to go with them. Rick doesn't really trust strangers, but he understands that by staying on the farm, his friends won't be safe. The rest come to the same conclusion, after which everyone sets off.

On the way, Abraham talks about the herd - a very dense large crowd of the dead, through which it is almost impossible to break through. At night, during one of the halts, Maggie tries to hang herself, they barely manage to pump her out. After a few days of traveling, the Group arrives at Rick's hometown. He suggests that they go there to collect weapons and ammunition from an abandoned police station. Abraham and Carl go with him, while the rest wait for them at the gas station.

While Rick, Carl and Abraham are away, the others are waiting for them at an abandoned farm by the road. Dale again confesses to Andrea his concerns about Rick. Meanwhile, Rick and his companions are attacked by scumbags, which they barely manage to repel. Soon they arrive in the city where Rick used to live. There they find the still-alive Morgan Jones. Unfortunately, he did not save his son Dwayne and the boy became a zombie. However, he agrees to join Rick's group and they, after picking up their guns at the police station again, drive back. But on the way they run into a herd - a very dense crowd of zombies. Trying to break through, they lose the car and part of the taken in the city, and only by a miracle they manage to get to the rest alive and unharmed. Before the herd reaches them, Rick and his companions leave in a hurry. "You don't have to be so simple."

Fear The Hunters (61-66)

During the next halt, a terrible event occurs - for unclear reasons, little Ben kills his brother Billy. This puts Rick in a difficult position. Ben can harm any member of the group and no one will understand. Abraham proposes to kill the boy, which understandably causes Dale and Rick to protest, but some agree with Abraham, however, no one can bring themselves to do it. The dispute is unexpectedly resolved by Carl, who kills Ben early in the morning while everyone is sleeping. Nobody sees this, the boy was able to quietly get through Glenn on duty. But Karl's father knows that the boy got up before him, but he doesn't think his son did it. At the same time, the travelers meet the black pastor Gabriel, who offers them to take refuge in his church by the road for the opportunity to feed him. On the way there, Dale suddenly disappears.

After settling in the church, Rick and the others are soon attacked by unknown gunmen. As it turns out, they're the ones who kidnapped Dale, and worse, they're cannibals. They ate Dale's second leg, though they didn't eat any more. As it turned out, he deliberately lagged behind the group, as he was bitten during the last attack of the dead. Soon the cannibals are approached by Rick, Abraham, Andrea and Michonne, who brutally deal with them.

Rick gradually becomes afraid of himself after what he did, Carl confesses to him that he killed Ben, and this upsets Rick the most. Before his death, Dale nevertheless admits to Rick that he thinks about him, but does not deny that until now all his companions are alive thanks to him, so he asks Rick to continue to lead the group of survivors.

Life Among Them / Life among them (67-72)

The journey to Washington continues. Rick begins to lose his sense of reality. During the breaks, he, on duty, talks on a stolen phone with the deceased Lori, not distinguishing reality from hallucinations. Soon the survivors reach Washington, but even this city is occupied by evil spirits. The survivors begin to become discouraged when a certain Aaron comes out to meet them. As it turned out, one of the suburbs of Washington was cleared and surrounded by an impenetrable fence. About fifty people live there under the leadership of former Senator Douglas. Periodically, special groups make forays into Washington for food, medicine, clothing and other items. After Abraham and Rick rescue the ambushed miners, Aaron announces his trust to Rick and his companions and invites them to join the community.

The town really looks peaceful, as it was before the zombie epidemic. As it turned out, Aaron is a scout who is looking for survivors, and if they have positive qualities, he invites them to the community to expand it. There is a place for every new person here. So Rick and Michonne become local law enforcement officers, Gabriel, respectively, a priest, Abraham - a builder, Morgan - a cook, etc. Douglas, the leader of the community, makes a good impression.

The harrowing journey of Rick and his friends has come to an end, but are they ready to return to a peaceful life?

Too Far Gone / We went nowhere further (73-78)

On the first trip, their company is attacked by walkers. Abraham rushes to Holly's aid, but Tobin (the construction chief) orders everyone else to retreat, pointing out that she can't be helped. Hard-nosed Abraham, who has seen worse, saves Holly. After this incident, everyone begins to respect him, and literally a week later he becomes the construction chief. In a conversation with Douglas, Tobin realizes his past mistakes and says that this way he will even be calmer.

Andrea was hit by Douglas' son, Spencer. This is noticed by his mother (Regina) and begins to woo him, but her son says that this is only communication. Glenn, on the pretense of resupplying, ends up in the armory when Olivia was handing out weapons. Rick, having acquired a weapon, offers it to Andrea, but she refuses and starts a conversation in which she points out that they are safe here and nothing bad should happen to them.

Scott is feverish. The fact that he was bitten is known only to Dr. Cloyd and Heath, who, together with Glenn, goes to the city for antibiotics. At night, on the roof, they notice that a large group of walkers crowded around a small store, as if something had lured them there, and in the morning they see a detachment of armed people in the store. They throw out one of their people to be eaten by a walker in order to buy time and leave their shelter. Taking advantage of this moment, Heath and Glenn make their way to the pharmacy, find some of the necessary medicines and get out of there, but members of the armed group hear the roar of motorcycle engines.

In the evening after the opening of the temple, Gabriel conducts a service. After, having come to Douglas' house, he says that everyone with whom he came is evil and will bring harm, but Douglas does not pay attention to this and asks Gabriel to leave.

While patrolling the town, Rick notices a man sleeping on the street. After meeting Pete, he learns that he had a fight with his wife and therefore spends the night here. Later, Rick remembers that he noticed a bruise on Ron (Pete's son). After drawing analogies and talking with Pete's wife Jessie, he comes to Pete and starts a showdown, which results in a fight. (Small digression: after this scene, a joke was added to the comic in the form of a colored fragment). Result: Jessie and son move in from Pete, Rick already feels like a complete psycho. He seems to calm down after talking to Douglas about Alexander Davidson, whom he killed because he thought he was dangerous. Rick reveals his secret relationship and Shane's death. Douglas sends Rick home to see Carl, but he is very offended and leaves for school. Rick, as Douglas asked, comes to him and after the conversation goes home. Sitting in the room, Rick begins to "talk on the phone with Laurie" and at this moment Carl appears, who believes that his father has really gone crazy.

Scott is dying. During the funeral, Pete appears in an agitated state and tries to stab Rick with a knife. Regina (Douglas' wife) tries to calm the man down and he cuts her throat in a fit of passion. At the request of Douglas, Rick kills Pete, while the shot attracts the attention of the same armed group that Glenn and Heath noticed.

While the dead are being buried in the town, during the memorial service, armed men try to enter the town. But everything quickly ends with Andrea's fire support from her position in the tower and the skillful actions of Rick and his team. Upon everyone's return to the temple - to make sure everything is in order - Rick notices that Douglas is leaving the hall. Having caught up with him, he demands that he return to the people and calm them down as a leader.

But he declares that the leader is now Rick.

No Way Out (79-84)

Calm is slowly returning to the town of the living. Only Douglas still can't get over his loss. Aaron warns him that he can no longer climb over the wall to look for survivors. Meanwhile, Abraham and his people decide to drive away the dead gathered at the gate. As usual, Andrea goes to the bell tower, and everyone else, armed with crowbars, knives and other silent weapons, goes to battle.

Unexpectedly for everyone, a herd of the dead comes to the town. Abraham and his comrades barely have time to return, as the herd takes the town in a tough siege. Andrea is trapped in the belfry.

Rick urgently takes action to ensure the safety of people. Additional armed posts are set up, and several families are concentrated in one house. Jessie and Ron move into Rick and Carl's house.

In the morning, another nuisance is discovered - one of the sections of the wall surrounding the town turns out to be unreliably fixed and begins to stagger under the pressure of the dead. Glenn, Heath and Spencer make a desperate attempt to get through to Andrea and end up cutting off the four of them.

Meanwhile, the unreliable section still falls off and the dead begin to seep into the town. They kill Tobin and bite Morgan, and Michonne cuts off his bitten hand. The rest, realizing that it will not be possible to stop the zombies, scatter to their homes. Spencer recklessly invites Andrea to run away with him, leaving the others and instantly loses her favor.

Meanwhile, Rick himself faces a choice - to try to save as many living people as possible, which almost certainly threatens with death, or to save himself with Carl and survive, leaving the rest in trouble. Nevertheless, Rick is not going to leave people in trouble. Having captured one of the walkers, he smears himself with the insides of a dead man, as he did before, and goes to the rescue with Carl, Jesse, Ron and Michonne. Maggie and Sophia stay behind, desperate to leave this way. Morgan dies from blood loss.

During the passage between the walkers, Ron and Jesse are killed. Douglas tries to shoot himself surrounded by walkers, but notices Rick and decides to help him. With his shots, he attracts the attention of the zombies, and they bite him. In agony, Douglas starts firing in different directions and one of the bullets hits Carl in the head. Rick runs to the hospital bay with Carl in his arms, hoping to save his son.

We Find Ourselves / We found ourselves (85-90)

After the fight, Rick, again forced to take on the role of leader, announces that the community will be restored and that no dead people will drive them out of here. Abraham, Glenn, Spencer, Aaron and the other survivors collect the corpses to be burned.

Rick, sitting in the infirmary, confesses to Denise that Ron and Jesse died because of him. Glenn apologizes to Maggie for leaving, and Maggie understands him. Later, everyone comes to the funeral of Tobin, Morgan, Douglas, Jesse and Ron. Rick says that all his decisions were wrong and suggests that everyone bring their idea about how to survive further.

Sitting in the infirmary, Rick starts talking to an unconscious Carl when suddenly Carl starts coughing. Rick tells Denise about this and she, after examining Carl, says that Carl is still in a coma and no changes have occurred. Walking past the graves, Rick spots Michonne at Morgan's grave. She says she will never be happy.

The next morning, Andrea, Maggie, Olivia, Aaron and Eric start killing the dead. Meanwhile, Carl woke up. As it turned out, from the wound he had a short amnesia, he forgot about the events that took place in prison after the attack of the Governor. Rick helps him remember the past.

Meanwhile, new problems are brewing, products are running out. Rick and the group go on an expedition in search of food, unaware that a conspiracy is brewing against him. Glenn turns out to be a bystander to his misfortune, and as a result, the community again almost faces bloodshed. Rick uses his leadership skills to bring the rioters to reason. Nicholas apologizes to Rick. Holly hints to Abraham that it's time to take matters into their own hands. Between Rick and Andrea there is sex on the basis of the loneliness of both.

A Larger World / Huge World (91-96)

The group that went to the city returns with a large supply of provisions, but Rick realizes that soon there will be no food at all and decides to establish agriculture. Andrea finally decides to forget about Dale's death. Carl is tormented by nightmares, he remembers how he killed Ben.

Abraham and Michonne go to the city to investigate. All this time, a stranger armed with a revolver is watching them. Abraham and Michonne meet him after a brief encounter with zombies. He turns out to be a rather dexterous type, he takes the sword from Michonne and takes Abraham hostage. To Rick, who came at his request, he introduces himself as Paul Monroe (Jesus). He came from the other side of Washington, from a larger congregation of two hundred people. He informs Rick that he and his people are not the only survivors and offers to take a few people to his community so they can search for something they need. However, Rick, not trusting Paul, knocks him out.

The group ties up Paul and takes him to the infirmary. Rick warns all the survivors in Alexandria of a stranger and a possible attack from his community. Rick asks the group to start preparing, after which he visits Paul and asks him a few questions. Michonne, Abraham and Rick decide to find the communities Paul was talking about under Andrea's cover. Upon reaching the viewpoint, Rick begins to believe that the stranger was telling the truth, and their whole life could change.

Returning to Alexandria, Rick notices Carl communicating with a bound Paul. After a brief conversation, Rick agrees to the deal and begins to pack the group for a hike. After going through a rather difficult path, Rick, along with Paul, Michonne, Glenn, Carl and Andrea, get to the wanderer's community. There they are met by the leader of the community, Gregory, who is very similar to Douglas. But as soon as Rick gets to know him, a member of the community attacks Gregory and, muttering some nonsense about blackmail, stabs him with a knife. Rick has to kill the attacker, which, as always, almost spoils the good relationship that has just begun. Paul manages to calm his comrades, after which he explains to Rick what could have happened.

It turns out that the community, led by Gregory, is roofed by a gang of a certain Negan, who calls themselves the "Saviors". They clear the area around the community from zombies, demanding in exchange a tribute in the form of half of the products produced in the community. And now something seems to have gone wrong. Upon learning of this, Rick offers Gregory to solve the problem with the "Saviors" in return for half of the property, to which Gregory gives a positive answer. Preparing to leave for Alexandria, Andrea tells her group that the people of the Hilltop are cowards who don't care about the coming apocalypse. Rick is hurt by these words and explains why he became the leader. Rick says that after uniting with the Hilltop, they will have a huge army of two hundred people, and then they can stop surviving and start living.

Something To Fear (97-102)

People are worried about the non-returning group. Abraham comes to visit Eugene, and he tells how and where you can get things for the production of cartridges. Rick and the people are attacked by Negan's gang. The group kills all but one in order for him to pass on the information that the Hilltop community is now under Rick's protection. The group returns, and Maggie confesses that she is pregnant. Abraham and Eugene go into the city for things. While discussing Eugene and Rosita's relationship, Abraham and Eugene are attacked by unknown Saviors who have been secretly following them all the way. Abraham is killed, and Eugene is taken hostage by one of Negan's men, Dwight.

Carl discovers his father and Andrea together naked in bed. Suddenly, Dwight visits the community. He, threatening to kill Eugene, demands that Rick let his people into Alexandria. At that moment, Eugene bites off Dwight's scrotum, which gives Rick's group a chance to attack the disoriented attackers. Dwight and his men retreat. Eugene and Rosita mourn Abraham together. Glenn, believing Alexandria to be more unsafe, decides to move with Maggie and Sophia to the Hilltop. After Abraham's funeral, Rick decides to meet with Gregory again and discuss the current situation with him, at the same time transporting Glenn and his family there.

On a minibus, they go to the streets of Washington, where they are ambushed by the Saviors, led by Negan. Negan decides to kill one of the members of Rick's group, thereby avenging the recently lost people. He wants to choose a victim with the help of a rhyme and his bat, which he named "Lucille". The rhyme ends on Glenn, and Negan beats him to death. In the end, he announces that he will return to Alexandria in a week and take half of the property from its inhabitants. Furious, Maggie hits Rick for not being able to do anything. Carl points a gun at her, but Sofia's intervention stops the conflict.

Rick's group makes it to the Hilltop. In a conversation with Gregory, who is more concerned about whether the "Saviors" found out about the pact between them, it turns out that none of his people even knew about Negan's existence. Leaving Maggie and Sophia at the Hilltop and taking Jesus with him, Rick returns to Alexandria. Returning, Rick finds the entrance to Alexandria strewn with corpses and Savior vehicles. Nicholas, who arrived in time to meet the group, assures that none of the people were injured during the attack, that the aggressors only managed to break the gate. Andrea leads Rick to one of the captured "Saviors" - Dwight.

Unexpectedly for everyone, the next day, Rick decides to release the marauder, because he is tired of suffering losses among people dear to him. When the people in whose eyes Rick's status as a leader is visibly shaken (including Carl, Andrea and Michonne) disperse, Rick tells Jesus to follow Dwight and find out the whereabouts of the "Saviors".

What Comes After / What will follow next (103-108)

As Jesus follows Dwight, Negan's company arrives in Alexandria with him. Rick has to open the gate and let them in. Negan's gang go into every house and take whatever they want. Negan personally lets Rick hold his bat, thus leaving him without a weapon. But realizing that his people can harm the inhabitants of the city, Rick just stands there and does not try to kill him. As the gang loads their "loot" into the van, Negan gets into one of them and drives off. At this time, Rick returns home and does not find Carl.

Jesus is discovered and Dwight takes him to Negan's base. But Jesus manages to escape unnoticed. As the Saviors unload the van, they spot Carl, who has secretly climbed into the Saviors' van with Abraham's machine gun. He kills several "Saviors". But Dwight, who arrived at the unloading site, manages to disarm the guy. Negan shows his possessions to Carl, as well as his "wives". Negan says that if he liked some girl in society, he "takes her as his wife", and then rapes her to his heart's content. After the tour, Negan takes Carl to his room and starts asking him questions about his past. He asks Carl to take off the bandage (this is the first time the disfigured part of Carl's face is shown), and when the bat is brought to Negan, he asks Carl to sing a song to her. Communication is interrupted by the message of one of the subordinates that a certain Mark is ready. Negan reveals that if his new "wife" has a lover, Negan burns half of his face, showing that the new girlfriend is now completely at Negan's mercy. Negan publicly burns the tied guy's face and then takes Carl to talk about future plans. One of Negan's "wives" - Sherry, tries to apologize to Dwight, who had the same situation with Mark earlier, but he does not want to listen to her. During a conversation with Negan, Carl begins to threaten him, but this only amuses Negan, and he says that he does not yet know what he will do with Carl, but he will definitely come up with something.

At this time, Jesus appears in Alexandria and tells Rick about what is happening. Jesus says he didn't see Carl, but guesses where he is. The group, led by Rick, head to the Saviors' hideout, but run into Negan and his men along the way. Negan confesses that he has Carl and wants Rick to see what has become of his son. Rick breaks down and starts a fight with him, but it turns out that Negan didn't do anything to Carl. He returns the boy safe and sound. Rick decides to reconsider his pact with the Saviors.

The group returns home. After receiving new details from Carl about the Saviors and their base, Jesus invites Rick to meet with a certain Ezekiel. Carl is nearly killed by a walker in the yard while he and Michonne are cleaning up the area around the Alexandria, but Michonne saves him in time. Carl admits that it is very hard for him without an eye, and Michonne reassures him, saying that Rick does not have an arm and nevertheless he does an excellent job. Spencer prays to God to give him the strength to do what "needs to be done".

Rick and Jesus head towards Ezekiel. On the bridge, they meet his men, who lead them to the "Kingdom". Rick meets Ezekiel - the leader of the "Kingdom", who has a huge tigress named Shiva. Unexpected for Rick and Jesus is the fact that Dwight appears in the community. He claims to be serving Negan for his wife Sherry, whom he promised to kill if Dwight didn't comply. Dwight promises to help Rick kill Negan.

March to War / Path to War (109-114)

The action moves to the Hilltop. At Glenn's grave, Maggie meets an African-American woman named Brianna, who tells her about some of Gregory's vices. Maggie is soon convinced of this when Gregory unceremoniously enters the doctor's office where she is being examined. Later, having entered her house with Sophia, who has become a hooligan, Maggie meets Jesus there, who initiates her into Rick's plans and asks only to watch Gregory, as he feels distrust. Jesus then goes to the wall, where he asks a lookout named Cal to help pick up a reliable team, revealing that there is an accomplice among Negan's people.

Meanwhile, Rick finally announces the X hour to the delight of Andrea and Carl, however, Michonne refuses to fight. She is unhappy that Rick did not tell her what he was up to and she does not count on success.

Jesus and Maggie go to the blacksmith Earl to ask him for bladed weapons. From Earl, Jesus learns that Cal left the Hilltop, as if to check the surrounding area. Jesus feels that he has made a fatal mistake. He barely has time to intercept Cal and reason with him, and although he managed to call the saviors, Jesus hardly persuades them that everything is in order.

Meanwhile, Rick, Andrea, Michonne, Heath and Carl arrive at the Kingdom. King Ezekiel meets them and secludes himself with Michonne at the first opportunity.

At this time, Negan appears in Alexandria. While his men are collecting tribute, Spencer approaches Negan and offers to eliminate Rick in exchange for a leadership position. The suggestion angers Negan, and he slashes Spencer's abdomen with a knife. Returning Rick learns about what happened and, although Negan explained to him what Spencer wanted, Rick takes a fatal step. Deciding that as many people as he can see are with Negan, Rick sends Andrea to the bell tower and, as the tribute truck leaves Alexandria, ambush him. However, he underestimates Negan and ends up falling into a trap. Negan is talking to Rick with menacing reproach when Carl shoots him from behind the fence and hits Lucille. Enraged, Negan wants to kill Carl and Rick's three men, who are on the same side of the barricades with him.

Connor, one of the Saviors, climbs up to Andrea's tower, and after a long and difficult struggle, she throws him down. Rick and the others are saved on time by Jesus and Ezekiel with Shiva. Negan and his surviving companions barely run away. Later, Rick and Jesus discuss a plan to attack the Saviors' base, while Negan, enraged by his defeat, announces the start of war to his people.

All Out War - Part One / All Out War - Part 1 (115-120)

Rick and an army of militias approach the walls of the Saviors residence. They take Negan by surprise, but unexpectedly for the alliance, Gregory appears on the fence wall and announces that the Hilltop is defecting to Negan's side. Negan calls on the militias to disperse, but only a few show cowardice, which infuriates Negan, he pushes Gregory off the balcony for not controlling his people and starts a shootout. Rick and his men return fire, with the main target being windows in the buildings, not Negan's snipers. Shooting attracts the attention of walkers. Seeing this, Rick orders his men to retreat, and he is going to ram the fence around Negan's plant in a pickup truck and lure walkers to him. However, Holly is ahead of him, eager to avenge Abraham. She breaks through the fence in a car, letting walkers into the gap, but she does not have time to get out herself and falls into the hands of Negan. Rick and the others safely retreat, but it's too early to rejoice - the war has just begun. In the meantime, Negan and his company realize that they are trapped - his factory is surrounded by a dense herd, attracted by the noise of battle. While Negan is looking for a way out of this situation, one of his henchmen David decides to seize the moment and rape the captive Holly. Negan severely stops this attempt and kills the presumptuous subordinate. At this time, Rick and Jesus successfully attack one of the outposts of the Saviors, although Eric dies in battle. Ezekiel and his men attack another post, but the Saviors repel his group's attack. However, they are immediately attacked by walkers. Ezekiel, having lost all his people, is trying to escape from the environment of zombies. Shiva saves him at the cost of his own life. The latter deprives the king of his presence of mind and instead of the Kingdom, he comes to Alexandria to find solace with Michonne. She soon gets tired of his snot and in a harsh form demands that he pull himself together. Rick returns with his fighters and upon learning that Ezekiel failed, he immediately realizes that there is someone to help Negan escape from the trap, so he urges his friends to prepare for the visit of the guests. They just don't keep you waiting. Negan throws a grenade into the territory of Alexandria, the explosion of which destroys the wall of the nearest house, and then demands to give him Rick. When he shows up, Negan pulls a tied Holly with a sack over her head from his truck and demands a negotiation. Rick agrees to start them only when Holly is on his territory. Negan lets her go and she walks towards the gate with a bag over her head. As she enters, Dr. Cloyd removes her sack and a zombie-turned Holly bites her arm. Rick and the others are distracted from the Saviors. Negan, taking advantage of this, gives the order to attack, and Alexadria is pelted with grenades. One of them explodes next to Heath, who is running to Denise's aid, and tears off his left leg. Jesus manages to throw one of the grenades back, where it explodes causing confusion among the attackers. Once there, Dwight, taking advantage of this, shoots his companions, proving his intentions to Jesus, who was watching this. However, the bombardment is getting more intense. Suddenly, Hilltop fighters led by Maggie come to the rescue. After being hit from behind, Negan retreats, but he does not consider himself a loser.

All Out War - Part Two / All Out War - Part 2 (121-126)

Eugene and his assistants hear the noise of battle in their workshop, located outside of Alexandria. Realizing that walkers can come to the sounds, Eugene reminds of caution, but one of the workers, not understanding the warning, goes out of need and falls into the teeth of a dead man lurking on the street. His kin burst into the workshop, forcing Eugene and his crew to leave the building. On the street, everyone is immediately captured by Negan. Meanwhile, Rick and the others are counting the losses. Ezekiel is about to return to the Kingdom with the remnants of his people. Maggie returns to the Hilltop. The inhabitants of Alexandria, having buried the dead, including Holly and Denise, who died from her bite, decide to go there too. Jesus guessing about the fate of Eugene, argues with Rick, but he does not consider it practical to waste strength. Meanwhile, Negan is in his lair trying to win over the bound Eugene to his side.

Former residents of Alexandria and the Kingdom settle in the Hilltop. Meanwhile, at the rescuers' lair, Dwight meets with the captive Eugene and informs him of his role in the standoff between Negan and Rick. He is ready to help Eugene and his comrades, but he does not believe him. By chance, Carson overhears the conversation. But he reassures Dwight that he is also not happy with Negan and does not want to one day get a red-hot iron in the face, there are other saviors who do not like Negan's power, but for now it's all in words.

On the street, Negan and the rest of the rescuers soil their weapons on walkers tied to the fence, hoping to make the slightest use of them fatal.

In the Hilltop, Rick visits the blacksmith Earl and asks him to come up with some kind of prosthetic for his right arm. Some details of the personal life of Jesus are also clarified here.

Rescuers are approaching the Hilltop. They are waiting for the sunset to attack.

The Saviors prepare to attack the Hilltop. Meanwhile, Carson frees Eugene and company. In the Hilltop Sofia meets Carl, he is rude to her and she goes to her new friends. The Hilltop is attacked by the Saviors. Under the first shots, Cal dies. Negan orders the Hilltop to surrender. After insubordination, he breaks down the gate and starts the attack. During the attack, Negan and Dwight go behind Rick and the group. Negan orders Dwight to shoot Rick with an arrow dipped in walker flesh. Dwight complies and Rick falls unconscious.

Under cover of night, Carson escorts Eugene and his comrades from the Saviors' base. On the way to the Hilltop, their car is ambushed by a rescue sniper who has sat on the roof of one of the houses and gets stuck among the walkers staggering along the dark street. However, Eugene manages to outsmart the shooter and, with everyone else, trap him in his own ambush. After a short conversation, a hardened Eugene pushes the savior off the roof to be eaten by the dead, after which he and his companions remain on the roof in anticipation of dawn.

Meanwhile, at the Hilltop, Nicholas and Jesus escort an injured Rick to safety, berating himself for allowing Dwight to fool them so much. Suddenly, at the very porch of the mansion, all three are attacked by saviors. Nicholas gets hit on the back with a machete. Jesus rushes into battle, and Carl and Gregory, who has begun to improve, run out onto the porch and drag Rick inside. But then Negan appears with a large group of his fighters, full of intention to kill everyone who took refuge in the mansion. But Michonne and Ezekiel already know what to do. They turn on the headlights of the cars, illuminating the attackers. Andrea's arrows, who have settled at the top, immediately shoot the blinded saviors. Negan and the others retreat from the Hilltop.

In the morning, Dr. Carson discovers deteriorating health in people, including Nicholas, who received seemingly harmless stab wounds. The riddle is soon resolved - Jesus and Michon, driving out the walkers who wandered into the Hilltop, attracted by the noise of the battle, find knives defended by the saviors with blades stained with the blood of the dead. And now the wounded face imminent death from blood poisoning.

Near the Hilltop, Negan is camped out waiting for the results of his biological sabotage.

The Saviors learn that the captives have escaped, but Negan doesn't care. At this time, Nicholas dies in the Hilltop. Eugene arrives at the Hilltop with the others, and finds Jesus and Michonne fighting zombies. Rick tells his friends about his plan. The Saviors approach the Hilltop and Negan orders Rick's men to surrender. Rick comes out to talk to him. He starts talking about the union between the communities. Negan seriously thinks about it. Rick, having chosen the moment, only manages to scratch him with a knife.

After being injured by Rick, Negan is lost. Taking advantage of this, Rick turns to the Saviors with a call for peace. At this moment, Negan, having come to his senses, attacks Rick and, despite being injured, arranges a brutal fight in which he manages to break his opponent's leg. At the same time, the rescuers are attacked from the rear by King Ezekiel, Michonne and Jesus. Dwight quietly kills the distracted accomplices. Meanwhile, Andrea shoots Rick Negan ready to kill. Taking advantage of this, Dwight picks up Lucille and, declaring himself the new leader of the Saviors, calls for an end to the bloodshed. The Saviors leave. At Rick's request, Dr. Carson treats an injured Negan. Later, while deciding his fate, Andrea calls for the public execution of Negan, she is supported by Carl, but Rick rejects the offer to execute Negan, believing that they should be above it. Out on a crutch to the people of the Hilltop, Alexandria, the Kingdom, and the remaining Saviors, Rick proclaims the rebirth of a civilization better than the one that was. Michonne then helps Rick onto the bed. They discuss the return to Alexandria, Michonne and Ezekiel's relationship, and Rick's abilities as a leader. The conversation is interrupted by looking for Carl Andrea. Realizing that his son can do something stupid, Rick, with the help of women, gets up and goes to the infirmary, where he finds Carl with a gun over Negan chained to a bed. After convincing his son that killing Negan means sinking to his level and that he will be punished, but in a civilized manner, Rick sees Carl out, while he himself waits for Negan to wake up. And when this happens, Rick explains why he saved Negan's life. He promises to send him to jail for the rest of his life.

A New Beginning (127-132)

A group of survivors led by a woman named Magna, escaping from a dense herd of walkers, meets Jesus with a detachment of Alexandrians. With their help, Magna manages to save her people except for one guy, after which Jesus takes them to Alexandria. About two years have passed since the general war. Rick was given a simple prosthesis for his arm, he is still limping, as the broken leg has not recovered. He has a stronger relationship with Andrea, who even became a mother to Carl. Peaceful life is slowly getting better, the survivors even periodically hold fairs in their settlements. The main villain from Negan's past is imprisoned in the basement of Rick and Andrea's house. From time to time, Karl drops in on him, who still longs for his death, but so far only conducts sentimental conversations with the former leader of the Saviors.

Negan, as Carl leaves, tells him that he was shocked by his response. He thought that after a long time, after all the heart-to-heart talks, Karl considers him his friend.

Rick and Eugene stop by the mill on their way to the military factory. Rick asks about Rosita. Eugene replies to Rick about his unease with Rosita's love for him. Going inside with Eugene, Rick overhears Olivia saying that the batch of bread is almost ready. Rick is glad to smell the bread again. Eugene replies that things are going well and will probably speed up production. Rick, after Eugene's words, says that they do not know the value of bread. After finishing the conversation, Rick heard Eugene say that he should go to the military factory. After saying goodbye to Olivia, Rick sees Mikey. Rick is happy to see him and asks him about how he likes working at the mill. Learning that Mikey wants his father to be proud of him. Rick thanks him and leaves with Eugene.

Andrea asks questions to Magna, making notes in a notebook. Magna, answering Andrea's questions, reproaches the need for the necessary details and trust in them. After hearing Andrea's answer about it, Magna talks about where she's from and how she survived with the group.

Josh visits Carl. Passing by his father's room, Carl does not show the bedroom to Rick, who asked to see Josha. Carl, moving on, brings Josh to his room. Josh is surprised by Carl's cutouts and asks him to make a unicorn for Wendy. Carl agrees to make a figurine for a sweatshirt.

After touring the military factory, Rick and Eugene go home. Eugene, having come to his house, sees Rosita's note. Rick walks home with Andrea to share what he saw, but notices Carl on the steps to the house. Carl expresses his pain to Rick. Rick understands and, having made a decision, says that he can learn blacksmithing in the Hilltop.

Arriving at the house where the group settled, Magna, along with Luke, Yumiko, Kelly and Connie, talk about trusting them and further actions taken.

Ken and Marco are chasing horses. Having galloped far, Ken does not notice the walker and falls along with the horse. Marco kills the walker and helps Ken get out. Then, he helps to get on his horse and they ride on.

Carl is on his way. Andrea comes into his room, she asks him if everything is fine and if he is worried. Karl replies that he is not worried and says that he is surprised because he turned out to have a lot of things. To which Andrea tells him not to take all the things, as he may return soon, but with his wife and children.

Negan talks about how things aren't so bad in his prison as Rick cleans his toilet. Rick counters by saying that others do it. As Rick hands Negan food, the former leader remarks that he was given freshly baked bread and says that Rick is preparing everything for his reign, as he is not going to stay in jail forever. To which Rick rudely but calmly humiliates him, and says that he will remain there for the rest of his life.

Carl visits Josh before leaving and gives him the unicorn. Josh was surprised that Carl made it so quickly and said that his mom hadn't started making a sweatshirt for him yet.

Magna meets Rick leaving the prison and says that all the buildings here are the same, at the same time asking what kind of building it is. To which Rick replies that this is a prison. Magna, greatly surprised, begins to ask Rick about her and asks permission to visit the prison. Rick, answering questions, says that there is only one prisoner and his term is for life, and also says that Magna will be able to visit the prison, but only with Rick, and since he is leaving now, only after returning.

Karl says goodbye to everyone. Jesus gives a note to Carl for Alex and Anna gives him a note, but only for Carl to read.

Rick starts asking his son about Anna, which Carl brushes off all the way. But when they stop for a bite to eat, Karl still tells his father about Anna, but suddenly walkers come out of the forest. Rick tells his son to get the gun but not shoot and that his father can handle it himself. Rick does not have time to deal with everyone because of his injury and Carl has to shoot at the walkers. After the massacre of the dead, a sentry drives up to them. Rick asks why his area wasn't secured, to which he apologizes. Rick suddenly loses his temper, begins to hit the sentry on the head with his cane, explaining that this is the main road, and that it must be protected, and that he and his son could die. The sentry, horrified, apologizes again. Rick calms down and climbs into the wagon.

Ken and Marco ride on the same horse. Soon Ken falls off her, Marco, jumping off his horse, picks up a friend, but the horse runs away and they have to walk, and they are already starting to overtake the walkers.

Magna and her group make their way to the prison, where they find Negan, who starts screaming that the people in Alexandria are monsters and thanks God that these people have come to save him.

Eloquence does not help Negan, and Magna and her companions are removed, leaving the prisoner alone. Meanwhile, Rick and Carl arrive at the Hilltop, where Rick finds to his annoyance that a cult is being created around him, and far from the village, two lookouts Mark and Ken are trying to escape from a crowd of walkers.

Carl is settling into his new home, Rick and Maggie are discussing trading deals when a message arrives about Mark's arrival. The emaciated sentinel is taken to the infirmary, where the delirious guy says that he was forced to leave his comrade, and most importantly, he heard how "the dead are talking" ...

Rick and Maggie talk to a distraught Marco, who said the walkers were whispering. Meanwhile, two bullies beat up a boy named Brian, however he is saved by none other than Sophia, but accidentally hits Carl.

Louie, Dante and Larry are talking when Maggie walks up to them and takes Dante away. Maggie persuades Dante to go after Ken, who is alone in the woods.

Later at the fair, Sofia meets the same bullies who beat up Brian. Carl gives the letter to Alex. Earl offers to join Carl for the meal, however Carl refuses. Earl starts to worry about him. Carl tells Earl why he is so sad - he was late for work as an apprentice and he (Earl) no longer needs him, but Earl said that there could be two apprentices and a joyful Carl told Rick that everything was settled. Later, they start talking about a house for Carl - whether he still wants to rent an apartment with the Barrington family or whether he wants his own house. Rick asks about the letter Anna gave him and if he read it, but Carl answers with only two words: "Not today" and explains why.

Meanwhile, Dante and his friends are talking about Maggie. Dante and his group enter the barn, where they found Marco's hat and heard strange noises, but it was a crowd of walkers.

Carl moves into a new house and meets Sophia, who offers to help him, but Carl says he can handle it himself. Sophia is happy that Carl is moving to the Hilltop. Rick asks Maggie if she's okay, but she answers him with Shakespeare's words. Rick says he misses Michonne going to the Kingdom.

Andrea tells Eugene that Rosita loves him, however he doubts it. Andrea enters the house where Magna, Yumiko, Connie, Kelly and Luke attack her and ask her questions.

Magna, along with Luke, Kelly, Yumiko and Connie, aggressively demand answers from Andrea to all their questions. Andrea responds by stating that no one will survive if something happens to her.

Rick, Carl, Maggie, Sophia and little Hershel watch the sunset at the Hilltop.

Dante, Doug and their partner fight off dozens of zombies. Suddenly, a dead man rushes at them with a knife in his hand. Dante's partners take to their heels, they are overtaken by the armed dead and killed. Dante is left alone with the dead, who for the first time begin to speak. Dante kills a couple of talking dead. He decides to examine their bodies and discovers that the rotten skin is just a mask under which ordinary people were hiding. At this moment, the shotgun of another "whisperer" rests on the back of his head.

Whispers into Screams (133-138)

Carl wakes up in the Hilltop and finally decides to read the letter Anna gave him. In the letter, the girl apologizes for lifting her T-shirt and showing her breasts, which embarrassed Carl. Anna writes that she appreciates her friendship with Karl and considers him cute, and his departure broke her heart. She asks for a return letter and claims that she will be bored. Satisfied with what he has read, Carl hides the letter in a chest of drawers.

Meanwhile, in Alexandria, Andrea communicates with Magna's group, who have decided to arrange an interrogation. However, Andrea managed to soften their mood; answers to questions grew into a friendly conversation, which lasted until the morning. Andrea told the newcomers how Carl lost his eye, and how Negan's capture helped cement Rick's leadership of Alexandria by demonstrating the rule of law. According to her, the Saviors, led by Dwight, easily integrated into the new community after they got rid of Negan. Now the "Saviors" guard the trade routes of the communities.

In the morning, Jesus checks to see if Andrea is all right, and when he sees Magna's group, he grabs his sword. Andrea calms down and sends him out.

Rosita apologizes to Eugene for her romantic infatuation, which resulted in her getting pregnant. According to Rosita, she does not love the child's father, and he does not love her. Eugene offers not to tell anything and promises to raise the baby as his own. Rosita thanks Eugene with tears in her eyes.

Rick and Carl say goodbye, Carl gives his father a letter, presumably for Anna. Rick leaves the Hilltop in a wagon. Carl forges his first tip at the forge and is praised by his mentor, Earl. After work, Carl meets Sofia, who invites him to dinner. Carl preens and together they go to a barbecue. Brianna and Maggie discuss Sofia and Carl's budding romance.

The Whisperer, who has captured Dante, interrogates him and claims that there are many of them, and people have invaded their lands, so they will be killed.

Jesus learns from Darius that Patrolman Nathaniel has not yet returned from the raid. A group of four people from Alexandria goes in search. The detachment of Jesus enters a remote, little-studied area. It turns out that Nathaniel often went out between patrols in search of different things. For example, once in one of the houses he came across baseball cards. Meanwhile, a group of "whisperers" are chasing the riders and are about to attack when they stop. Desperate to find Nathaniel and driving into the barn, Jesus' group decides to return. At this moment, Darius is attacked by the "talking dead", chopping him with knives. They attack two other patrolmen as well. With the words “And now you will die too,” one of the “whisperers” rushes at Jesus.

Jesus manages to fend off the dead and those who pretend to be them. He saves his wounded partner, moreover, Jesus even manages to neutralize and capture the leader of the "talking dead", after which he, along with the wounded and the captive, goes back to the Hilltop.

Meanwhile, in the Hilltop, two hooligans attack Carl and Sophia, who have retired, they beat Carl, and then begin to mock Sophia, taking revenge on her for protecting Brian. Suddenly, Karl pounces on the hooligans and beats both with a shovel, it may very well be to death.

Jesus comes to the Hilltop. The wounded man is sent for treatment, the captive - for interrogation, but Jesus and Maggie do not have time to find out anything. Appeared Carl and Sophia tell them about what happened to them.

In the Hilltop, after a fight with the bullies, Carl and Sophia head to Maggie. Sophia faints and is taken to Dr. Carson. The doctor assumes Sophia has a concussion, but reassures her that everything will be fine.

Parents of hooligans break into the hospital, dragging their injured sons on a tarpaulin - they are unconscious. Karl tries to justify himself, but he is called a monster, accused of attempted murder. They insist that the bullies were just defending themselves, while Sophia and Carl attacked them. Maggie tries to calm everyone down, doesn't let them start a fight. Angry parents demand Carl's arrest and preferences for themselves - equipment for trailers, non-participation in patrols outside the Hilltop.

Jesus interrogates a captive from the whisperers. The girl says that her name is Lydia and that she is 16 years old. Explains that the skin of the dead protects the whisperers from the walkers and even helps to coexist. Jesus assumes that the Whisperers don't have many people since they send children to the front lines. Lydia explains that in their group there is no concept of "childhood".

Maggie takes Carl to jail. It is not easy for her to do this, the guy is outraged, but Maggie explains the rules to him: in the new society, no one kills anyone. Even Rick spared Negan, and Carl, though defensive, went too far. Maggie asks you to trust her.

As Maggie and Carl walk past Jesus' interrogation cell, Lydia spots Carl. Maggie and Jesus leave to discuss the appearance of the Whisperers. Lydia and Carl find themselves in neighboring cells, they strike up an acquaintance.

Meanwhile, the parents of the bullies, who look rather marginal, voice their dissatisfaction with Maggie's management. Gregory offers to kill her.

At the Hilltop, Gregory tries to convince Tammy and the other parents of the bullies, who were hospitalized after the attack on Carl and Sophia, that Maggie needs to be killed. Gregory wants to take her place. He is told that this is too drastic a measure.

Marco tells Maggie and Jesus how he and Ken were being chased by the Whisperers. Jesus tells him what they know about the new group. He assumes that there are many Whisperers, since their attacks took place far from each other.

Carl is talking through the wall in the prison with Lydia. Carl explains to her the order in their group, says that they do not kill criminals. Lydia is surprised. Lydia reveals that this was her first outing with the Whisperers and that she helped kill. Karl assures that she will not be killed, offers to help the survivors by talking about the Whisperers.

Sophia wakes up in the hospital. She tells Maggie how the bullies attacked them. Maggie becomes convinced that her story and Carl's are the same and decides to release Carl. Hooligans lie unconscious in the next ward. Carl asks Maggie to release Lydia as well, but she refuses. She only agrees to untie Lydia. Carl brings her his lucky hat.

Jesus visits Darius in the hospital. Carson says that Darius' wounds are not too bad. Alex appears. He kisses Jesus and says they can be friends.

The Hilltop is being watched by two Whisperers. They are waiting for their leader.

In Alexandria, Andrea and Magna are harvesting corn and discussing how much food they have. Sad Eugene passes by. Rick returns, Andrea throws herself on his neck.

Carl is talking to Earl. He says that the incident with the hooligans will not affect their relationship. They are being watched by one of the bullies' parents. He comes to Gregory and says that he is ready to support the murder of Maggie. He offers to kill Carl as well.

In the Hilltop, Carl communicates through the door with Lydia, who is locked in a prison cell. He convinces Maggie and Jesus, who approached, that she can be released. Lydia refuses to communicate with them.

Alex informs Maggie that the bullies at the hospital have come to their senses. At the hospital, Tammy yells at Maggie for letting Carl out. Maggie offers dissatisfied people to change their place of residence. Gregory tries to calm the quarrel and invites Maggie to come to him, promising a solution to the problem. Carson asks Maggie where his brother is. Jesus tells her that he was unable to get answers from Lydia.

Sophia gives Carl his glasses and thanks him for saving her. In agreement with Maggie, Carl releases Lydia and tells her that she is released under his responsibility and if she tries to harm anyone, he will kill her. This scares Lydia a little. He shows her around. Lydia reveals that the Whisperers eat berries and mushrooms, hunt, sometimes share their prey with zombies, but never kill people for food. Carl explains the principles of life in the Hilltop to her. At the chicken coop, on the grass, Lydia invites him to have sex, he agrees.

Maggie comes to Gregory. He offers her a glass of wine, Maggie accepts. Gregory pours poison into her glass. At first, he says that Tammy and the others should not be kicked out, but after the poison takes effect on Maggie, he declares that Hilltop is his city. Jesus appears at the door.

At the Hilltop, Jesus catches Gregory red-handed. Fortunately, the poison either turned out to be weak, or Maggie's body turned out to be stronger than the conspirator expected, nevertheless, the woman escaped with a faint, and grief - the poisoner went to jail.

Carl spends time with Lydia, who admits to him that she doesn't want to go back to the Whisperers. But those come themselves to the gates of the Hilltop. Their leader turns out to be a bald-headed woman who introduces herself as Alpha. Maggie Alpha, who entered the negotiations, informs that she is Lydia's mother and demands the return of the girl, offering in exchange to give Dante and Ken, who were previously taken prisoner, and at the same time delimit the habitats. Maggie is not going to risk taking Lydia out of the Hilltop despite Carl's protests. Having received her daughter back, Alpha forbids the girl to call her mother, demanding that she only call her by her first name. Maggie later questions the former captives about what they know. Dante says that he was in a closed tent all the time and did not see them, but by the sounds he determined that there were thousands of them. The Whisperers took good care of them. Sophia goes to look for Carl, but does not find him, as he went outside the Hilltop to save a new girlfriend.

Life And Death / Life and death (139-144)

A small group from the Kingdom makes their way to the shore. It is led by Ezekiel, who amuses himself by killing zombies with Michonne's sword. At the dock, they meet up with a group from Alexandria, which includes Rick, Heath, Aaron, and Magna. Rick tells Ezekiel that they have a lot of bullets thanks to their production and are going to clear the coast of walkers. Ezekiel hints that the price of bullets should be lowered, and Rick retorts him rather harshly, but then relents.

A sailboat approaches the shore. Ezekiel begins to worry. Michonne appears on board the ship. She is cold to Ezekiel, but friendly to Rick. Pete says that the catch was very successful. Michonne asks who Magna is, and says that she likes to go to the sea for fish, as there is a lot of work in the sea and there is no time for different thoughts. She admits to Rick that she left Ezekiel because she "couldn't live like this anymore", and reveals that before the apocalypse began, she had daughters, whom she left to her husband Dominic, and she devoted herself entirely to work. Now they are most likely dead, and it gnaws at her. That's why she left Ezekiel, because she doesn't think she deserves happiness. Rick replies that it isn't and asks Michonne to come home.

Carl's disappearance is discovered in the Hilltop. Brianna assumes that Carl is just hiding, but Jesus replies that Carl skipped breakfast and lunch. Sofia notes that Karl is brave, so he went behind the wall, and Dante tries to joke that Karl went after Lydia, since she is his first girlfriend. Maggie says that because of Carl's act, they could have a very big problem with the Whisperers.

Carl is sitting in the forest under a tree. Alpha approaches him with whisperers. Carl explains that he follows them of his own accord and no one sent him, and that he wants to make sure Lydia is okay. Although he points a gun at Alpha, she ends up asking him to join the whisperers.

Michonne does not want to return to either Alexandria or the Kingdom. Rick, unable to convince her, prepares to leave.

Meanwhile, at the Hilltop, Dr. Carson interrogates Gregory. He makes excuses in every possible way and shifts his guilt to others, including Maggie herself, who is present during the interrogation and in the end directly accuses Gregory of attempting to kill herself. Later in a conversation with Jesus, weighing all the options, Maggie is leaning towards executing Gregory. She also understands that she will have to punish his accomplices - the families of teenagers crippled by Karl, as they knew about Gregory's plan, but did not take action to stop him.

And Karl, not thinking about the anxieties caused by his departure, together with Lydia, ends up in a large camp of the Whisperers, where there are many dozens of people, there are cows and horses.

Meanwhile in Alexandria, Andrea and Olivia gave Negan a bath day, washing and shaving him. He is then driven back into the cell. When the women leave, Negan leans on the grate, it opens...

Rick returns with the group to Alexandria. Dwight is waiting for him at the gate. He tells Rick that Sherry left him. Dwight complains to Rick that the leader's burden is too heavy and asks Rick to release him from it. Rick replies that he cannot appoint a new leader to the Saviors - they must choose one themselves.

In Alexandria, Rick goes down to Negan's basement and finds him sitting in an open cell. However, Negan makes no attempt to escape and lets Rick lock him up. He tells Rick that he didn't run away so they can build a relationship of trust. Naturally, Rick thinks this is nonsense.

Rosita announces to everyone that she and Eugene are having a baby. Rick finds Olivia and chastises her for not checking the lock on Negan's cage. This greatly upsets Olivia, she leaves in tears. Andrea tells Rick that they should kill Negan, but Rick refuses, noting that he is on the right path, not the easy one.

Meanwhile, at the Hilltop, Maggie and the rest of the community hang Gregory. The community is shocked by Gregory's execution.

After Gregory's hanging, Maggie tries to convince the rest of the Hilltop residents that she didn't want to, but had to. Maggie expresses hope that the rest of the community will work together for the greater good. Her speech is not met with support.

Alexandria is preparing for a fair, which will also be attended by residents of the Hilltop and the Kingdom. Andrea discusses preparations with Siddique. Seeing the boiling work, Andrea sheds a tear.

Meanwhile, Karl gets acquainted with the life of the Whisperers. In front of his eyes, they skin a dead man and offer it to Lydia. Alpha explains to him that the animal way of life is their way of surviving, after which he asks Carl about how he and his friends survived. Carl replies that his father helped him. The offer to return and hand over to Maggie the requirement to remain neutral Carl again rejects, as he is worried about Lydia, which surprises Alpha. He hints that Lydia was raped by the Whisperer men.

Jesus, Dante, Brianna, Maggie with their children Sophia and Hershel go to Alexandria. Maggie tells Rick about the Whisperers and that they have Carl. Rick, outraged that he was only now told about this, saddles his horse to go in search. Andrea, Dante, who hopes to achieve Meggie's favor, and also Michon, who has arrived in Alexandria, are called to go with him. Meanwhile, Alpha, under the guise of a buyer, is talking with the blacksmith Earl at his shop with tools and weapons.

At the fair in Alexandria, having met Earl Sutton, the leader of the Whispering Alpha leaves, and at this time Ezekiel approaches him, interested in the affairs of the blacksmith, noticing something wrong in him. Earl tells him that the woman was a little strange. Soon Ezekiel finds Pete, also interested in his affairs. Pete replies that he's fine and when asked, "Where's the boat?", replies that several of his guys are watching her, also adding that Michonne is also at the fair. Ezekiel begins to feel out of sorts, but Pete tells him that Michonne lacks the womanhood to confess her love to him. Perking up, the king thanks his friend, hugging him. And, presumably, he leaves to look for her.

Meanwhile, Rick's group of Andrea, Michonne, and Dante are walking through the suburbs, heading for Carl. Dante says that the whisperers' lair is already far away. Rick apologizes to him for being harsh with him. Dante understands him and says that when he was looking for Karl recently, he went quite far into foreign territory and got scared. Michonne advises him to control himself. Dante also says that they are very dangerous and difficult to call human. But Rick does not lose hope that his son is fine. But then a few whisperers appear, one of whom says that Rick's son is quite useful to them. The older Grimes pulls out a gun and orders to be taken to Carl. The Whisperer says that he is not in a position to dictate terms, also saying that he will only take him alone to see his son, and the rest will remain here.

Meanwhile in Alexandria at the fair, Paul Monroe asks Maggie if she will tell Rick when he gets back that they hanged Gregory. Green replies that she has not avoided this topic and that she is responsible for everything that happens in the Hilltop after they find out what happened to Carl. If something bad, then the conversation will have to be postponed. Jesus encourages Maggie, saying that he doesn't know Carl as well as she does, but has noticed that when he's alone, he gets stronger. And Maggie replies with a smile that it sounded like he's known Carl for quite some time.

In the camp of whisperers, Grimes Jr. raises his voice and asks one of the whisperers where his father is. Lydia tries to calm him down by telling him to stop screaming because they shouldn't be screaming. The Whisperer replies to Carl that he shouldn't know what the others are doing. But Karl does not back down, insisting on his own. Here Rick appears, accompanied by three whisperers. Rick says he scared the hell out of him, but doesn't hug him, asking where his glasses are. To which Carl replies that he no longer needs them.

Meanwhile, Rosita and Eugene are walking around the fair. Eugene says that they don't need to buy any more clothes because there isn't enough room. But Espinosa can't help it, saying that soon he won't fit into any of his sweaters. And after the birth of the child, she will need an incentive to lose weight. But Eugene answers her that he will accept her for who she is, it is important for him that she be happy. Rosita says she is a terrible person and starts to cry, she says she doesn't want to spoil his holiday and leaves crying. Porter goes to the shop, asking how much a radio can cost. The seller replies that since it does not work, then for a bottle of beer. Eugene agrees to this.

Rick asks Carl if he has been harmed. Karl says no. Grimes Sr. says that at the first opportunity they will need to return to their own, since they are keeping Michonne and Andrea (he did not say about Dante). But Karl says that he will not leave Lydia and leave, offering to arrange a diversion. Rick can't leave him. But Carl replies: "This is my world, father, and he looks after me." Rick does not understand what he wants to say to him. Carl says he sees that Rick doesn't like looking at him and wants to hide how Carl looks. Rick says now is not the time for that. Carl explains that Lydia is the only one who looks at him normally. Here, surrounded by whisperers, Alpha appears, in which Rick sees a bloody knife. She says she ran into trouble along the way. Rick starts yelling at her, but he gets hit by one of the whisperers. Alpha says they need to take a little walk. They climb the unfinished building and from the roof Alpha says that these are not empty threats, targeting Rick and forcing him to look at the crowd of thousands of walkers in the backyard.

Having intimidated Rick with a horde of the dead, capable of wiping out Alexandria and the Hilltop under the leadership of her people, Alpha rejects any proposals from Rick, demanding only one thing - not to meddle in the territory of the Whisperers. Rick demands that Carl come back with him, even if it means dragging him by the collar. Carl then tells Rick about Lydia being sexually abused in the camp. Rick demands an explanation from Alpha. She tells Rick that their community lives by new rules that are more suitable for the new world, while Rick is simply clinging to the past. Alpha says that Lydia is too weak for their community and invites her to leave with Rick.

Lydia, Carl and Rick return to the place the latter left Dante, Andrea and Michonne, but only their horses are found there. After driving a little further, Rick discovers a long row of severed heads impaled on stakes - the border of the Whisperer's territory. The 12 zombified heads are Olivia, Josh, Carson, Tammy Rose, Luke, Erin, Ken, Amber, Louie, Oscar, Rosita Espinosa, Ezekiel. Relatives and friends of the dead are trying to find them at a fair in Alexandria.

Soon a shocked Rick is approached by Andrea, Michonne and Dante. Andrea asks what they will do now.

No way back / No way back (145-150)

The group is shocked. Michonne loses her temper, realizing that she has missed her chance at happiness with Ezekiel. She draws a knife to kill Ezekiel's zombified head, but Rick offers to do it for her. Michonne gets angry and pushes Rick away, but then throws herself into his arms, sobbing. Andrea takes the knife from Michonne, pierces Ezekiel's head, and asks the others to help remove the heads from the pike. Suddenly, Michonne lunges at Lydia, knocks her down and demands to know if Lydia knew about Alpha's assassination plans. Michonne asks if the Whisperers have done this before. Carl pulls out a gun. Dante asks Michonne to stop.

Lydia puts a knife to Michonne's throat and says she knew nothing about the assassination plans. Lydia thinks that Alpha is scared, because the Whisperers have never seen such large groups before. Those they met either joined them or died. Michonne realizes she has lost her temper and releases Lydia, helping her to her feet. She tells Carl to hide the gun, he complies. When asked what happened to the bodies of the dead, Lydia replies that they were probably skinned. The group decides to bury the heads where they found them. They leave sticks to mark the boundaries of the Whisperer's domain. Michonne is unhappy with this, it seems to her that Rick does not want to take revenge on those who killed their friends. She says that if Carl or Andrea had been in the place of those killed, he would certainly have acted differently. Rick agrees to this.

Michonne runs off into the woods to be alone. Rick asks Andrea what she thinks should be done. Andrea says that, on the one hand, she wants to go back and kill all the Whisperers, but, on the other hand, she understands that this is recklessness. Rick replies that he understands that his people will want revenge. He worries that people will turn their backs on him if he does not want to support their revenge. Dante heads over to Michonne to check on her, but Michonne responds with rudeness and then offers to join the grave digging.

Lydia finds Carl crying - he found Josh's head. Carl explains to her that they were friends. Lydia sympathizes with him.

Rick and the others return to Alexandria. Everyone is already starting to worry when they discover the loss of their relatives and friends. Rick tells the crowd that he brought some very bad news.

The people of Alexandria and the Hilltop are stunned by the mass execution. They mourn and demand revenge from Rick. Rick asks you to take your time and think things over carefully. Maggie and Rick begin to argue, then fight. They quickly make up and apologize to each other.

Eugene comes to Rick. He suggests using Lydia to fight the Whisperers, since Lydia is the daughter of their leader, Alpha.

After a conversation with Eugene, Rick and Andrea realize that Lydia's presence in Alexandria is undesirable and decide to smuggle her with Carl to the Hilltop. Andrea volunteers to see the teenagers off, and all three leave Alexandria at night. This is done in time, because after some time, Michonne with a drawn sword enters Rick's house with unclear goals. Rick manages to spot her. Michonne explains that she wanted to get Lydia out of town herself. Rick and Michonne spend the rest of the night in the kitchen drinking and discussing their lives.

Meanwhile, Andrea and her companions encounter a mounted guard named Gus at dawn. Andrea asks him not to tell anyone that they passed through here. This makes Lydia worried. When the trio enter the abandoned factory, Lydia begins to panic, deciding that they want to give her to the whisperers. She points a gun at Andrea and demands an explanation.

Carl and Andrea explain to a frightened Lydia that what they are doing now is for her good.

Meanwhile, in the camp of the Whisperers, Alpha cries, tormented by her conscience. One of her people, who happened to be nearby, comforts her, but she cuts his throat in gratitude so that there is no witness to her weakness.

Alexandria is restless. People crave revenge, riots begin, which can hardly be suppressed by the power of persuasion.

Realizing that he can do nothing with the mood of the crowd, Rick decides to seek help from Negan, who is sitting in prison.

In Alexandria, Rick comes to Negan to ask for advice as a leader.

Dwight argues with Laura, one of the members of the Savior group. Dwight says he's leaving and doesn't want to be the leader, Laura talks him into staying. At the end of the conversation, she kisses Dwight.

Andrea, Carl Grimes and Lydia approach the Hilltop. They are met by Eduardo. Andrea asks him not to talk about their arrival. Carl and Lydia talk alone. Lydia says that Carl is very nice. He replies that he takes an example from his father.

Brianna shares her feelings with Maggie Green. She says people will get angrier and something bad will happen. Maggie replies that Rick will come up with a plan and let everyone know, after which the Hilltop residents will return home.

Rick talking to Negan. He worries that people might go against him. Negan says that Rick can trick his people into thinking they're safe.

Eugene Porter turns on the radio and tries to find any signs of radio signals. Rick comes to him and tells him that he has a plan for revenge. A regular army will be created and trained.

Josh's parents Vincent and Julia discuss a plan to avenge their son's death. Morton Rose and his son appear on the threshold.

At the end of the episode, Dwight pulls Negan's weapon, Lucille's bat, from the closet.

Dwight abandons his group, the Saviors. Laura volunteers to go with him.

In Alexandria, Rick and Eugene talk about building an army. Eugene likes this idea. Rick leaves Eugene's house and is soon attacked by Morton Rose and Vincent. They wanted to remain unrecognized under the cover of night, but it did not work out. Morton decides to kill Rick, Vincent dissuades him. The attackers start fighting each other. When Morton leans towards Rick to pick up his stick used for beating, Rick bites him on the neck, damaging the enemy's artery. Morton dies, Vincent runs away. An unconscious Rick is discovered by Maggie. He is taken to the hospital. Rick decides to immediately hold a community meeting.

At the Hilltop, Andrea walks into Carl's room and sees him making love to Lydia. Andrea leaves without drawing attention to herself.

Michonne chases after Vincent and brings him back to the community. At the meeting, Vincent begs not to kill him. Rick spares him. He announces to those present that an armed squad will be created that can destroy the Whisperers. Dwight and Laura make it to Alexandria and attend Rick's meeting near the end of his speech. The Alexandrians greet the news of the creation of the army with joyful cries. They chant Rick's name.

Eugene tries to fix the radio. He tries to get in touch with someone, but to no avail.

Maggie is about to leave Alexandria. Rick says goodbye to her and says that Carl can come home with Lydia. Jesus remains in Alexandria.

Vincent apologizes to Rick. He says that everything is in order.

Rick enters the basement with Negan, and after standing for a while, leaves.

Gabriel tells Rick that he thanks him and wants to learn how to defend himself, so he will come to the shooting range.

Rick comes home. There he sees Michonne. He tells her that now the Kingdom needs a new leader. Michon agrees. Then it comes to the head of the Saviors. Dwight turned down the position and Rick doesn't know who could replace him. Michonne says she will when she thinks of it and asks how old Carl is.

Eugene tries to get on the radio again, and someone answers him.

Eugene is talking on the radio with a stranger. A stranger cannot tell about his community. They agree that every day they will get in touch at the same time, and their leaders will not know about it.

Dwight and Laura train Gabriel. He is making progress. Dwight worries about what will happen when it comes to killing a man. After training, Gabriel prays for forgiveness for the murder.

Rick meets Brandon. He apologizes for what he did to his father. He attacks Rick and beats him. When he gets tired, Rick hits him with a cane and reminds him that his parents wanted to kill Maggie, his father tried to kill him, and he hit Carl with a brick. Rick threatens Brandon, but Michonne runs over and calms him down. Rick is going to leave Brandon in Alexandria under his supervision.

While everyone is busy leaving, Brandon steals the keys to the cage. He sneaks into the basement and suggests that Negan run away and tell the Whisperers about preparing for war. Negan says he'll think about it.

Rick and Michonne talk about people's moods. A woman runs up to them. She says the keys to the cage have been stolen. Michonne and Rick run to the basement. They descend and find that Negan has escaped.

The Hilltop group returns home. While Maggie isn't looking, Brandon walks off into the woods. There, he gives Negan his jacket. The two of them head towards the Whisperers.

In Alexandria, Rick sends Aaron and Michonne to find Negan.

Eugene is talking to a stranger on the radio. Suddenly a shot rings out. On the street, Paul (one of the residents of Alexandria) shoots Marco, because he thinks it's the Whisperer. Marco is taken to the infirmary, Paul - for interrogation.

A mopping up team, including Magna's team, led by Dwight, shoot down walkers in the woods.

Dwight uses Lucille as a weapon. Laura asks him why. Dwight says that Lucille is a symbol of authority, the "staff of the leader", and that he needs to fix that.

Kelly and Connie are outraged that they have to kill walkers for the sake of the Alexandrians. Magna objects and says that they should be glad they were accepted, even after talking to Negan.

Michonne and Aaron find traces of Negan and Brandon. They determine that the fugitives are heading towards the Whisperers' camp and ride after them.

Brandon and Negan approach the border. Brandon sees the poles, one of which was hanging his mother's head. Negan says that now many mothers are dead. Brandon starts crying. Negan apologizes and hugs him. The boy says he wants the Alexandrians and the Whisperers to kill each other. Negan says it's a good plan, to be exact was plan, and stabs Brandon in the stomach.

Andrea talks to Maggie who has returned from Alexandria with her crew. Carl tells Maggie that he wants to stay at the Hilltop with Lydia instead of returning to Alexandria. Negan finds the Whisperers and talks to Beta, presumably one of Alpha's lieutenants. Andrea arrives back in Alexandria and is startled to see Rick's injured face. Michonne and Aaron find Brandon's corpse and talk about a possible relationship with Paul. However, they are ambushed by the Wanderers and the Whisperers, and as they fight back, Beta arrives, stabbing Aaron in the gut. Negan reveals his name and that he is in love before Alpha.

Beta and his men try to capture Michonne, who is protecting both herself and the wounded Aaron. Dwight and his men arrive at the scene of the fight and rescue them, and Beta has to flee. Michonne takes Aaron to the Hilltop, instructing Dwight to detain Beta, who promises to do so, but when Michonne leaves, he orders his men to retreat beyond the whisperer border, as instead of luring them into their territory, they staged a massacre in their field. Meanwhile in Alexandria, Andrea rebukes Rick for the consequences of his tactics and states that he is doing business like Negan, Rick immediately remembers that he did not tell Andrea about Negan's flight.

Meanwhile, Negan himself is pushing wedges against Alpha, though to no avail. And soon Beta appeared, rushes at Negan and accuses him of leading the chase. Alpha demands an explanation from Negan.

Michonne brings a slightly alive Aaron to Hilopp and hands him over to Dr. Carson.

The saviors, meanwhile, are returning to the outskirts, killing Brandon, who has become a walker, and are now waiting for the consequences of their actions, since, according to Dwight, they committed an act of aggression against the whisperers ...

Beta tells Alpha that he doesn't like Negan's presence in the Whisperer group. Alpha asks if Beta wants to question her authority. Beta denies this and bows to Alpha. Alpha tells Negan that he can stay with the group and gives him a knife. According to her, the “leather outfit” still has to be earned. Negan helps the group hunt and chop wood. An attack by zombies that do not touch the Whisperers becomes a test for Negan, who easily cracks down on the walkers.

One night, Negan sees two men trying to rape a woman. Negan intervenes and beats up one of the rapists. Negan gets hit by Beta. Alpha explains that the Whisperer's strategy is not to get involved, to defend themselves on their own. Negan calls it bullshit. According to Negan, he did terrible things, but there was a reason for everything. Alpha replies that the Whisperers only obey animal instincts. Alpha says she misses her daughter. Alpha cries and says she's not strong enough. Negan reveals that he, too, has lost a loved one.

Negan slits Alpha's throat, he cuts off her head and remarks, "We'll see what happens when Rick sees you."

The Whisperer War (157-162)

Fleeing from the whispering, Negan comes across a patrol of saviors led by Dwight, who sends him to Rick. At the sight of Alpha's severed head, Rick is both pleased and alarmed at the same time. Negan tells him what Brandon wanted to free him, as well as everything he learned from being among the Whisperers. Those have already found Alpha's body and now Beta is ready to lead them. Realizing that the response of the Whisperers will not take long, Rick announces mobilization. Negan is paroled from further detention and placed under Dwight's supervision. Meanwhile, back in the Kingdom, Ezekiel's successors debate whether they should participate in the upcoming war and help Rick with resources.

William tells him that they have already discussed this and sends Zachary. He says after him that he will regret it, but William does not think so and smirks. He was clearly up to something bad.

While Negan and Dwight are in the ambush, Negan asks him for a weapon, but he does not give it to him, because. does not trust. Negan thinks it's all because of Sherry. Laura comes running and reports that a crowd of walkers is attacking them. Dwight is hesitant because Gabriel would have warned them already. Duyat orders everyone to disperse to their places. A shootout begins.

After a couple of minutes, help comes in the person of Michonne, Jesus, Laura Magna. Negan gets the better of Beta and beats him down with his bat. Yes, it beats so much that it ... breaks! Negan is shocked! He is very disappointed and starts screaming. Blames Beta for everything. After that, a crowd of walkers flies on Negan, and help comes to Beta. Negan can't calm down. He demands to leave Beta, because. didn't finish with it.

Soon, Dwight and the others defeat the crowd of walkers. Everyone sees the Whisperers running in a hurry into the forest. But the walkers do not allow the heroes to catch their breath, and a new wave swoops down on them.

At the same time, the Whisperers are dragging a battered Beta. The question arises between them: "Have anyone seen Beta's face?" It turns out that it doesn't. Nevertheless, one decides to take off his mask, but the other stabs him with a knife right in the head. Apparently no one needs to know what Beta looks like.

Duyat is brewing a new plan against the walkers - to separate them: he orders Jesus to go east, Michon - to the west, Magne - to the north, and he himself will go to the place for retreat.

Hilltop. Carl and Lydia argue about their future. She says that the Whisperers should be feared, because they do not consider themselves human, they have no purpose in life, they will easily kill and die for her mother Alpha. They have nothing to lose. But Carl replies to this that you should not scare people, their group is larger, they are more collected and stronger. Lydia says that they all also have a weakness - they are caring. Lydia takes pity on Carl and informs him that she does not love him.

William is extremely unwilling to have his enemies attack them as well. He threatens to kill Zachary if he throws anything else undesirable at him.

Whisperers wander in a crowd of walkers. They understand that they are separated. One of them decides to go to the edge and scout the situation, but ... an arrow from Dwight flies into his head. Dwight and his men drag the slain Whisperer into the woods. He orders to take off his clothes, after which he puts on a mask made of walking skin.

Vincent returns on foot to Alexandria. On the way to him, Hit rides on his horse. He picks him up and they leave together for Alexandria.

Several Whisperers walk among the walkers and talk to each other. They suspect that something is wrong. They had to catch up with their own, but they were separated. Dwight and Michonne disguised themselves among them. Then, when one of the Whisperers hears Michonne being called by name (although Whisperers are not known to call each other by their first names), Michonne attacks them.

Other Whisperers drag an injured Beta behind them. Finally he woke up. First of all, he asks them if they have seen his face? To which everyone replies no. They tell him what happened after he passed out. He further informs that since everything is going according to plan, the others should soon get to the Hilltop and return Alpha's daughter back to their community.

William walks around the Kingdom grounds and informs Taylor that everyone needs to be on duty.

Tara says that she did not come to quarrel, but to return the horse to Vincent. Heath then asks if she would provide help to fight the Whisperers, but Tara refuses. Everyone is leaving.

The Hilltop's main gate collapses. The Whisperers continue to attack. Maggie rushes to save her son and Sophia, who are in the house. Carl helps her. Next, one of the Whisperers grabs Lydia and tells her that he will save her, that she must go with them, because that's what her mother wanted. Lydia learns from him that her mother has died. She points her gun at Whisperer, saying that her home is in the Hilltop now and that they shouldn't have come here. Threateningly announces that the Whisperers have come to an end, and then kills the Whisperer in the head.

Then he discovers in one of the rooms unconscious Brianna lying on the floor and her son Johnny next to her. Carl and Johnny take Brianna under their arms and carry her out of the house. She also says that she is worried about Rick's people, as a lot is at stake. To everything Tara says, Sherry replies that she believes in Rick Grimes. Rick will win by all means, even though many will have to die in the war. And when it's over, when the Whisperers are gone, when Rick's people are tired and weak, then they'll take over what's left.

Negan arranges Lucille's farewell funeral. He puts her in the ground and regrets not burying his wife (as it turns out later). After all, it was in honor of her that he named his baseball bat that way. He says he will miss her.

Meanwhile, a group from the Kingdom, led by William, race to help the people of the Hilltop. They see from a distance that the Hilltop has fallen, destroyed and on fire. They then meet with the survivors. William regrets Maggie that they didn't come to the rescue sooner. To which Maggie replies that they are not to blame for anything. William offers his help. Maggie explains to him that they have lost several horses and asks him to give them one in order to track them down. And after the fire is over, they're going to check the remaining supplies and go to Alexandria. Maggie says that soon they will rebuild the Hilltop, as they did with Alexandria, and that they will make it better.

Carl comforts Lydia. He tells her that they will survive. Lydia confesses that this is not the first time the Whisperers have been at war with other people. She had never been on the other side and not seen what happened after them. She hurt many and killed many. To which Karl replies that he also had a hard time, that he can say the same about himself. He explains to her that all the terrible things they did were in order to be in their current place, so as not to do such a thing again and live happily.

The Whisperers drag Beta back to their camp. They see that Beta is very tired and offer him a rest, but he is determined to keep going faster in order to finish off all the survivors.

Alexandria

Rick and Andrea come to the conclusion that if she fires 2 shots from the bell tower, then it means the Whisperers are coming, and if 3, then the Saviors. After all, Rick suspects that some Saviors are behaving very strangely towards his group. Rick admits to Andrea that he cares about people and that he has gone limp outside the walls of Alexandria, but Andrea assures him that he is not.

At this time, Eugene returns on a cart with horses, in which there are ammunition that he has made. After he greeted everyone, he faints, having time to explain this by saying that he did not sleep. After all, he wanted to make sure that the ammunition would be in the community by morning. Rick advises him to rest.

After Rick and Eugene talk at the table. Eugene says that it is very important for him to help them.

They then hear a shot from Andrea, which means that Dwight's group has returned. Rick realizes that Dwight succeeded with the Whisperers. They won. Dwight says that they did lose a few, incl. and Father Gabriel, because he did not return. Rick promises that once everything settles down, they will go and check if this is true. Dwight tells how things were with the Whisperers while he was on the sortie, and that they dealt with everyone. Rick, after each answer from Dwight, asks him if he is sure that everything is over? But Dwight is sure. He tells him that they had to deal with hundreds of dead people, and it was not easy. After that, Rick goes into a daze, because. what he saw before, you can't call hundreds of dead people. According to him, there are many more. Rick urges Dwight to come back. Dwight is shocked.

A huge herd of the dead is approaching Alexandria. Whisperers say that nothing will stop the herd, and Beta, in turn, adds that they have done their job, and that the dead will finish what they started.

Certain Doom / Certain Death (163-168)

Rick and Dwight watch as an ocean of the dead approaches Alexandria. Andrea joins them and says that she will harness the horses. Dwight says he'll help Eugene and the others turn the herd around. After some time, part of the settlement of Alexandria is sent on this mission.

Eugene informs everyone that the best solution is to take the herd to the ocean. They will not be able to take everyone away, so you need to try to distract as many dead people as possible.

At the same time, Rick tells the Alexandrians that if the rest of the crowd goes to the community, they will shoot them down. Negan comes to the noise around. He doesn't understand what's going on. Rick tells him that he won't get a weapon.

Andrea suggests pairing up to lead the herd in small groups. Michonne teams up with Jesus, Andrea with Dwight. Michonne decides to make things easier. She dismounts from her horse and asks Jesus to cover her while she shreds the walkers. After that, she tells Jesus that it is his turn to shred them.

The people who remained in Alexandria armed themselves with knives to silently eliminate the walkers standing at the main gate. Negan has no intention of sitting still, so he enters the fight first. After a couple of minutes, a crowd of walkers breaks the gate and enters the streets of Alexandria. Rick orders everyone to get back as quickly as possible. Annie suggests that they set the walkers on fire so that they each set each other on fire, and that way they will get rid of them. Rick refuses this and says that if they do, then the whole city will burn down. Rick sees Paula being attacked by the dead and rushes to her to pull her away from them, but it's too late. She manages to tell Rick to find her son Mikey and save him, and then she is eaten alive. Rick inadvertently falls to the ground. The dead are surrounding him. Suddenly, he is rescued by Negan. He asks him about whether he justified himself before him?

At the same time, in the Sanctuary, Tara is standing next to John, who is watching through binoculars as the crowd of the dead surrounded Alexandria. John admires the whole picture with a smirk.

After the fire in the Hilltop ended, its inhabitants went to Alexandria. As they approached her, they were shocked at how a herd of walkers filled the community. Carl is worried about what happened to his father, but Maggie and Lydia convince him that he is alive. Michonne and Jesus join them. The latter will be assured that their people probably managed to hide in the houses and offers to continue to pull the walkers apart piece by piece. Maggie wants to help them. She leaves Carl in charge of the camp.

Back in Alexandria, Negan and Rick are trying to get away from a herd of walkers. Negan runs into the house and grabs Rick behind him before closing the door. now they are forced to sit in cover. He still reminds Rick that he saved him, unlike the Alexandrians, who got scared and didn't even think to give him a helping hand. He also says that they are similar to each other in that they feel calmer in such a situation than other people.

Negan asks Rick to name the worst thing he ever did in his life. Rick rudely denies him this. Negan notices that Rick has become more obscene after he came into his life, and yet he insists that Rick tell him the worst thing he ever did. Rick collects his thoughts and tells him that he is ashamed of being alive when his friends died. Negan admits that he is familiar with this, that he was surrounded by slobbers, who were constantly being torn to pieces by walkers, and over time he became disillusioned with people and lost respect for them. He understands that he has done a lot of nasty things for which he is destined for a cauldron in hell and admits that it was Rick who helped him realize all this, he changed his thinking. He then talks about his worst deed - that he left his wife to die, that he could not kill her himself and asked another guy to do it, and also that he could not bury her.

Eugene and Heath did their job - they took the herd of walkers into the ocean, but Heath suggests that they continue to pull them away from the community and, at the end, check that they are on the set course.

Dwight and Laura don't sit still either. They also take away walkers. After they meet Andrea, Magna and Yumiko, they suggest that they continue this business, but instead they will try to get through the wall. Then on the way they come across Eugene and Heath. Dwight recruits Heath to join his team, while Eugene joins Andrea and the others.

Negan notices that the herd is starting to thin out. Rick realizes that one cannot sit idly by and therefore must go for weapons to help Dwight and the others. Negan stops Rick and tells him that he will go on the mission himself. He walks out the door and tells Rick to cover for him.

At that time, Karl in the camp realizes that they have been standing aside for too long and commands the inhabitants of the Hilltop to get their weapons in order to help the rest of the people who are fighting for them.

While the madness is going on in Alexandria, the Saviors have gathered together in their Sanctuary to watch what is happening there. John looks down through the binoculars and orders everyone to start gathering, because he sees that the situation there is more or less subsiding. In a few hours, they should move out and remove what's left there. This is a hint that they are going to war against Alexandria.

After Negan came out of hiding, and Rick stayed behind to cover him, he entered the fight with the dead, and he was amused. Suddenly, a dead man swoops down on him from behind, and Rick saves his life by shooting the dead man with a pistol. Rick then suggests opening other doors in order to get out.

Siddiq checks the radio in Eugene's house and it turns out to be working. Stephanie answers the call. Siddiq also answers her, but Annie calls him to return to the battle with the dead. Connection is cutting off.

A herd of the dead moves towards the ocean, and then many of them fall into it from a cliff. Everything is going as Eugene intended. But not all the dead follow the ocean. Some went the other way. Eugene, Andrea, Magna and Yumiko decide to lead the stragglers back to the herd, as they can lead the rest on the cliff. They get it. And then Eugene feels tired.

Maggie and Dante separated from Michonne with Jesus.

The dead continue to break through the gates of Alexandria.

Out of nowhere, Laura, Dwight and Heath are attacked by the Saviors led by Sherry. She says that Dwight chose his side. A fight breaks out between Dwight and John.

Maggie and Dante are reunited with Michonne and Jesus. They decide to stay and make sure that the dead are heading towards the ocean. Jesus spots the horses in the distance.

Eugene, Andrea, Magna and Yumiko are surrounded by the dead. Eugene asks Andrea to give him a horn to distract them so she doesn't have to break through the herd. He assures her that he will find a way that he can slip through the gap and not be delayed. He takes the horn from her and leaves on horseback. He then blows the horn and slides off the horse. The dead surround him. Andrea helps him by shooting at them and tells him to run. Magna and Yumiko help her in a shootout while she rides to help Eugene. She catches up with him, but he asks her to leave him. Andrea refuses. There are too many dead people, so they need to fight to make their way to the edge. Eugene and Andrea then manage to mount a horse and ride away from the dead. They are met by Magna. She notices that Andrea has been bitten on the neck.

Andrea, despite the bite on her neck, resolutely continues her work - she needs to take the walkers to the coast.

Meanwhile, in Alexandria, Rick and Negan continue to fight off walkers and are called out by Siddiq, Vincent, and the other members of the group. Negan reproaches them that they were all hiding, but Rick only gives the command to clear out the rest of the walkers in order to clear the way to the gate. Carl and Lydia appear, followed by another group of the dead. But the Alexandrians do not have to get their hands dirty - the situation is saved by the arrived Saviors, and with them Heath, Laura and Dwight are held hostage.

Sherry tells Rick that they are not part of their alliance from now on, and upon noticing Negan, asks rather rudely why he is free. The conversation is interrupted by Dwight, who seizes the moment to disarm Mark. Laura does the same. Rick demands that everyone lay down their weapons, Dwight does not immediately obey.

Rick and Sherry go to the house for negotiations, in which the new leader of the Saviors makes it clear that if they are not left alone, they will "happily begin to understand how good it is to live in this nice place instead of the old dirty factory." Since it is impossible to reach an agreement peacefully, Sherry begins to threaten Rick, saying that he should be afraid of her. A fight ensues between them, as a result of which Sherry almost strangles her opponent, but by a lucky chance, Rick manages to escape, while breaking Sherry's neck by hitting her on the table.

At this time, Andrea, who is barely on her feet, enters the room and sees Sherr lying dead on the floor. Rick tells her that it was an accident. She then shows him the bite on his neck.

Andrea passes out in Rick's arms. Michonne and Dwight arrive at the house. The latter, seeing the murdered woman, Sherry demands an explanation. Rick says that Sherry tried to kill him and she had an accident and died. This explanation does not suit Dwight, but he decides to leave the showdown for later. Rick and Michonne carry Andrea into the bedroom.

Eugene arrives and confesses to Rick that what happened is the result of his mistake. But Rick believes that no one is to blame for what happened.

Dying Andrea is visited by everyone who knew her. Even Negan came and said goodbye to her in his own way. Finally, Rick is alone with her. Before dying, Andrea asks him not to stop and lead people on. Soon she dies and then revives. Rick does not immediately find the strength to kill her completely, for quite a long time fighting with her corpse, until he finally pierces her temple with a knife.

Then he leaves the house and sees all the people he knew lined up in front of him. Everyone has tears in their eyes. Rick remembers the words Andrea said to him. Then he kneels down and everyone bows their heads before him. Then he gets up and tells everyone to follow him, because. they have a lot to do.

Rick and his men go to the gates of Alexandria, where the inhabitants, together with some Saviors, have already begun to restore order: burn the dead and restore the walls. John asks Rick where their leader Sherry is. Upon learning that she is dead, John and the other Saviors, without waiting for an explanation, are immediately going to start another bloodshed. Negan intervenes, using his charisma to cool down the hotheads. He announces that there will be no return to the past, beats Mark for fawning, finds the right words for John. After that, the Saviors leave back, and Rick and the others go to bury the dead.

Years. These are classic "slow zombies" who died and resurrected again. These zombies are quite tenacious, able to endure severe cold in winter, while freezing, they reduce their activity, but are able to restore it with the onset of the warm season. Zombies do not distinguish between human speech, reacting only to loud sounds. The main way to identify zombies among themselves is a specific smell; transferring this smell to their clothes, a person becomes invisible to them. This feature helped Glenn and Rick make their way deep into Atlanta in search of weapons, as well as Michonne to spend several months surrounded by zombies, having virtually no shelter.

Zombies are shown in varying degrees of decomposition, up to a complete skeletonization of the body, but even so they retain some motor ability. The greatest speed of movement and reaction is shown immediately after treatment, in the first months of existence, due to the best preservation of the body. The only way to permanently kill a zombie is to severely damage the CNS by crushing the head with a heavy object such as a shovel or hammer (Tyreese's weapon of choice). Cutting off a zombie's head is not enough to kill it completely, as the head still shows some signs of activity after that.

Another important trait is the route of infection, one of which is considered by most to be the bite (although in reality the bite only kills!). It is known that military developments in the field of biological weapons served as the reason for everything (although according to Eugene, which cannot be considered true). In general, it is not known exactly how infection occurs; most likely - by airborne droplets (through the air), since all the heroes of the series were infected, even those who avoided direct contact with zombies. The only way to avoid death after a bite / scratch is the surgical amputation of the damaged part of the body, if possible, in the first hours after the injury. Under proper conditions for the operation, a person survives, which was proved by the example of the amputation of Allen's right leg. But regardless of the cause of death, all people will be resurrected as zombies, which echoes the concept of zombies in the work of George Romero, where the same principles apply.

Zombies are attracted to food not only by people, but also by animals, although it is not shown that any of them turn into " undead" (later, in one of the issues of The Talking Dead, Robert Kirkman, answering a question from a viewer, reports that Animals cannot turn into zombies. Zombies can be divided into two main categories: "wandering" and "watching". The former are in constant motion, the main factor stimulating which is loud sounds and the direction of movement of their kind, with the development of the plot, "herds" are mentioned - huge groups of zombies, reaching several thousand. "Guarding" zombies are immobile and are active when in direct contact with a person or animal.

The Walking Dead: Road to Woodbury

The game

The Walking Dead: The Game is a game based on the Walking Dead comic book series created by writer Robert Kirkman. The plot of the game is divided into 5 episodes.

The gameplay is made in the form of an interactive movie, where the ability to move through the zones is often replaced by plot inserts in which the player takes an active part.

Telltale stated from the very beginning that the game was created not from the series, but from the original source, that is, from the comics. The developers claim that the world of The Walking Dead is the darkest place you've ever been. The main characters of the game will be a prisoner named Lee (Lee) and an eight-year-old girl Clementine (Clementine), who will need to help each other, often making difficult decisions in order to survive.

In December 2019, the thirty-second volume of The Walking Dead was released in Russian - a record for translated comic series in our country. And on July 3 this year, the final, 193rd, issue of The Walking Dead was released in English. The main zombie drama of our time was published for sixteen years, and during this time an ordinary comic book about the risen dead turned into a large-scale franchise.

When Robert Kirkman decided to end his comic, it came as a surprise to many fans. Readers learned about the final from the media just a few days before the release. And Image even announced fake covers for issues 194 and 195, which never saw the light of day.

Cover of the final issue

But it was not possible to keep the ending in complete secrecy - largely because in the 192nd issue the story of Rick Grimes, the main character of the comic, ended. It was with his awakening from a coma that the story began. The attention of fans from all over the world (and not only them) was riveted to the comic, so the leak could not be avoided. However, no one knew exactly what would happen in the release. And Robert presented one of the most anticipated versions of the finale.

Robert Kirkman and The Walking Dead

When the comic first launched, Kirkman didn't believe it would last beyond twelve issues. Having overcome this milestone, he jokingly stated that if the comic survives to the 75th issue, then aliens will appear in it. No one believed Robert, and in that very issue there really was a post-credits scene (the only one in the entire comic), and aliens appeared in it.

In the company of artist Ryan Ottley (Kirkman worked with him on his other long-term construction - Invincible), Robert made an alternative continuation of the release, in which ... Rick woke up on a spaceship and found out that aliens had resurrected the dead. They brought his wife and several dead heroes back to life. And now the survivors of the zombie apocalypse are at war not only with the dead, but also with guests from outer space. This was a joke by Kirkman that never got a sequel, and its events are not considered canon. But these are the only comic book pages that are made in color. The rest is black and white.

Kirkman repeatedly promised that the comic would not end with the death of Rick Grimes - he wanted to show the world after him. And formally kept his word. If the 192nd issue put an end to the story of a simple policeman from Cynthiana, who became a real messiah for the survivors in Washington, then the 193rd showed the world several decades after his death.

Over the past sixteen years, there have been many theories about how The Walking Dead will end. Some believed that the author would stop at the discovery of an antidote. Others thought that the series would end with the death of all the heroes in general. There were those who thought that Kirkman would start the story of other survivors, and the stories of Alexandria, the Hilltop and other communities would be left with an open ending. But those who argued that soon after Rick's death, the end of the comic would come, were right.

Kirkman has been engaging with audiences for years in the letters section at the end of each issue (Letter Hacks). There he answered questions, talked about the fate of the characters left behind the scenes, and explained his decisions. After the death of his favorite heroes, he mourned with the fans, explaining that this is an important step for the development of the story. In the same place, Robert said that he wanted to bring the comic to two hundred or three hundred issues, he even had ideas for developing the plot after Rick left, but he changed his mind.

How did the story end?

After the war with Negan and the Saviors, the Union of Commons (Alexandria, Hilltop, Kingdom) managed to create a safe zone from the dead. The Saviors joined them. Soon, the Union learned of the existence of a community of Whisperers - people who wear the skin of the dead over their own and live among the zombies. After the conflict with them, the Union managed to survive, but it lost a lot.

Soon the heroes heard about a community near Ohio. Traveling there, Rick and his men learned that there were over fifty thousand survivors in the Commonwealth. But their orders are different: everything rests on the idea “who you were before, that you remain”, and it is rarely possible to change your social status. The intervention of Grimes' men led to armed conflict between the Governor of the Commonwealth and the people living in the community. Rick was able to persuade everyone to resolve the situation peacefully, but the son of the Governor still shot Grimes.

The 193rd issue is dedicated to the events after several decades. The focus is on Carl Grimes, Rick's son, who appears as an adult. He is married to Sophia, a girl he met at the very beginning of the zombie apocalypse, and they named their daughter Andrea - in honor of their father's second love, with whom Carl survived all his childhood side by side. Grimes Jr. wields the sword of Michonne, Rick's girlfriend who has been with them through all the wars.

In the future, the safe zone between communities has grown so much that walkers can no longer be found in cities. But one of them still manages to get there. To understand where the dead man came from and put an end to the threat, Karl goes on a short journey through a safe area. Along the way, he meets comic book characters who survived to that time - Hershel (Maggie Green's son), his mother, Lydia, Eugene, Michonne and many others.

Over time, society recovered: newspapers began to be published again, the judicial system was returned, and a new railway was built, along which trains run. There is an annual expansion to expand the boundaries of the safe zone. There were generations of children who had never seen zombies. Hershel makes money on this: he keeps several dead people in the trailer and shows them for money to those who have already forgotten what they look like.

The previous 192 issues have been the story of people trying to survive in a world full of zombies and other survivors willing to kill for resources. And the 193rd issue is dedicated to a new world where you no longer need to survive. In it, people work together on their future and seek to re-develop the society they almost lost in the worst years after the rise of the dead. As a reminder of the past, the Commonwealth has a monument to Rick Grimes. He is depicted as people remember him - with a cane, with a beard and without a brush, who went through many hardships in order to pave the way for others.

Could there be another ending?

While working on the story for No Way Out (numbers 79-84), Robert thought that the best ending for The Walking Dead might be something that fans don't expect at all. He even figured out exactly how to arrange it.

At the end of the story, when the dead entered Alexandria, Grimes's men, as in the final version of the comic, would have managed to defeat the walkers. Rick would then give a speech about how this is just the beginning. Gradually, when changing frames, a statue in the same position would appear in its place. In the course of his inspiring speech, the frames would move away, showing what is happening around the monument. And there would be walkers loitering around. According to this idea, Grimes' victory gave the survivors some time, but in the end they were inevitably defeated by the zombies.

The idea was abandoned largely due to the fact that all the comic book characters were already constantly suffering - they lost too much to not even get a chance for a happy ending.

Speaking specifically about Rick, the end of his story turned out to be a great parallel with the start of the comic. Rick woke up alone in the ward of an empty hospital - and he also died alone, when there was no one close to him. He even fell onto the bed in the same position he woke up in on it in The Walking Dead #1.

Kirkman could have made up a continuation of Rick's story: he could have been saved at the last moment, he could have miraculously survived, the bullets could have missed his vitals. But Robert refused. He gave the main character a creepy, but in its own way ironic ending: Grimes brought people together throughout the zombie apocalypse, but none of them were there at the right time. And Karl found him - thus the father taught his son the last lesson. Having lost the closest person, Karl became different, he was able to understand that Rick's path was the right one.

What does this mean for The Walking Dead?

Launched in 2010, the series of the same name has been running for ten seasons. Already from the finale of the first, there were noticeable differences with the original comics. And with each new season (and showrunner) there were more and more of them. Kirkman himself is positive about all the changes, because, in his opinion, it is more interesting for fans of the comic to watch, because they see events that either were not in the comic or they are presented differently. Nevertheless, all the key plot milestones of the comic book are adapted in one way or another in the series: Hershel's farm, the prison and the Governor, Alexandria, Negan and the Saviors.

That all changed in Season 8, when Chandler Riggs left The Walking Dead. His hero, Karl, was bitten, infected, and his father shot him. In the ninth season, the series was already left by Andrew Lincoln - the performer of the role of Rick. His character wasn't killed, but was badly injured before being flown by helicopter to AMC's trilogy of solo films set to begin production in 2020.

Since the ninth season, the Whisperers have appeared in the series, but due to the absence of Carl and Rick, the plot has changed. However, the creators of The Walking Dead have changed character lines before, replacing some heroes with others. Sooner or later, almost all the key events of the comics happened in the series - though not always in the same form and with the same characters.

Thus, the ending of the comic is also possible on the screen. It may happen later, it may lose one of the plot branches (for example, the Commonwealth may be taken entirely into a trilogy of films with Andrew Lincoln), and Grimes' place will be taken, for example, by Daryl - the character of Norman Reedus. He was not in the comics, but in the series he has won a lot of fans since the first season.

The story of The Walking Dead continues

In the sixteen years since its first issue, the zombie comic has grown into a massive franchise. In 2020, the third series in the Walking Dead universe will start - its action will unfold in the future. In addition to TV shows, there are quite a few tabletop and video games, a themed cruise, annual fan fests, and more. The franchise has evolved since the comic's finale, and it's likely that Robert Kirkman will return to it.

The comic, by the way, also has a spin-off - The Walking Dead: The Alien from Brian Vaughn and Marcos Martin. It's about Jeff Grimes, Rick's brother, stuck in Barcelona at the beginning of the epidemic. It can be purchased on the Skybound website by paying any price (even if it's free).

But the main thing is that the comics left a mark on the culture. These are numerous references in other works, and memes, and merchandise, and the very policy of production and distribution of AMC series, which was largely influenced by The Walking Dead and their ratings, and the changed genre. Realizing that it was useless to fight a mastodon like Kirkman's comics, zombie filmmakers began to look for new approaches.

general information

The Walking Dead comic shows the world after the zombie apocalypse, the chain of events leading to the "fall" of the world is not told, but from the memories of the survivors it can be indirectly judged that the crisis developed for at least several weeks. The exact reason for turning people into zombies is not disclosed, and the source of the epidemic is also unknown.

The main storyline of the comic is the struggle for the survival of a group of people. The comic's central character is Rick Grimes, an ex-cop turned leader of a group of survivors seeking permanent shelter.

The main idea developed in the comics is “evil”, which is inherent in all people initially, but for the majority it is restrained by the norms and rules of behavior in peaceful life. It is shown that with the destruction of social ties, with the destruction of the usual way of life, in conditions of limited resources and the struggle for survival, moral norms cease to exist, their "dark side" opens in people. As a result, other survivors become the main threat to existence along with the threat of zombies. Not all people are able to endure this, many commit suicide with the onset of the crisis, "taking" the whole family with them, many experience irreversible changes in the psyche, changing people so much that they are not able to return to their former lives.

Chapters

Days Gone Bye (1-6)

The story begins when, at the moment of chasing and apprehending a dangerous criminal, a policeman from a small town in Kentucky - Rick Grimes - is seriously injured and loses consciousness. After an unknown period of time, he wakes up in a hospital room. No one responds to his calls for help. Then he himself begins to seek help, but sees that the hospital is abandoned. Opening the locked cafeteria, he sees a group of zombies attacking him. He miraculously escapes death, after which he goes to his house, but sees only desolation. On the threshold of the house, he is hit on the head with a shovel by Dwayne, a boy of about eight, who mistook him for a zombie. Together with their father, Morgan Jones, they use their neighbors' house as a hideout. Morgan tells Rick about what happened. In accordance with the plan, the survivors began to be evacuated to major cities in order to better coordinate their defense; Rick's wife and son, most likely in Atlanta.

Taking a car and a weapon from the police station, Rick heads off to find his family. Along the way, he runs out of gas, and finds a horse at a nearby farm, which he rides to Atlanta. On the outskirts of the city, he sees complete desolation, and entering the city, he is attacked by a whole crowd of zombies. He is rescued by Glen, a young guy who takes him to a small survivor camp on the outskirts of the city. There, Rick finds his wife, Lori, and his seven-year-old son, Carl. They evacuated with Shane, Rick's partner, but they were too late: when they arrived at Atlanta, the city was already "dead". They live in a trailer and tents and wait for the army to arrive to evacuate to a safer place.

Among them, Dale is a man of retirement age, he traveled around the country with his wife in his trailer, his wife died at a campsite near Atlanta. He keeps together with two young sisters who help him: Andrea, who worked as a clerk in a law firm, and Amy, a college student. Also living at the camp are Allen and Donna, a couple in their forties, with twins Ben and Billy in their sevens; Carol is a middle-aged woman with a daughter, Sophie, about seven years old (her husband committed suicide, unable to bear what was happening). Jim is a middle-aged man (a mechanic from Atlanta), he lost all his relatives, miraculously got out of the infected city. Each of them tells their story of survival, in which they lose all their loved ones.

At night, when everyone is asleep, Dale is on duty with a rifle on top of the trailer. They have few weapons, and Rick and Glen decide to sneak into a gun shop in the city. Having come to the conclusion that zombies identify themselves by smell, they smear the insides of a recently killed zombie on their clothes, and it works: when they make their way closer to the city center, the zombies do not notice them. After picking up full carts of weapons, they move back, but it starts to rain heavily, and their clothes get wet, they narrowly escape from the zombies, losing most of their weapons in the process.

A month after the appearance of Rick, a conflict is growing between him and Shane, connected with Shane's sympathy for Laurie. Rick guesses that there was some kind of relationship between them. One night they are attacked by a whole group of zombies, which has never happened before. Before everyone can react, one of the zombies mortally wounds Amy and bites Jim. The next day, Jim goes farther into the woods with a gun in his hand. Tensions between Shane and Rick, who sees fit to take the group away in search of a safer place, come to a head. Shane points a gun at Rick, wanting to shoot him, at which time Carl shoots and shoots Shane in the throat, killing him. The group decides to start looking for a safer place.

Miles Behind Us/ Miles Behind Us (7-12)

Made To Suffer/ Born to Suffer (43-48)

The Governor survived after Mishoni disfigured him. After recovering from his injuries, he tells his men a tale about the supposedly evil inhabitants of the prison. Soon, scouts from Woodbury find the location of the prison and the Governor and his army arrive there. An assault begins, which soon chokes. The people living in the prison do not intend to give up and fight off the attack. Having lost a dozen people, the Governor retreats. Rick's team also has damage, Excel, Andrea and he himself are injured.

Immediately after this, Tyreese and Mishoni decide to counterattack and flee from the prison to the Governor's location. Their plan is failing. Tyris is captured and after the failure of negotiations with Rick to surrender the prison, the Governor decapitates him with the sword of Mishoni, who managed to escape.

Meanwhile, Dale, Andrea, Glenn, Maggie, and Allen's kids and Sophia drive away from prison in a trailer, fearing another attack. Soon it happens again and this time it is more violent. Unable to withstand the pressure of the attackers, the defenders of the prison die, even Lori with her newborn daughter. Only Rick and Carl manage to get away. But the cruelty of the Governor turns against him. One of his fighters, seeing the murdered Lori and Judy, realizes that he was following the monster and kills his former leader. After that, the remnants of the Governor's army barricade themselves in the prison block, where they are trapped without food and ammunition.

Here We Remain / Here we are the same (49-54)

Having lost his wife and daughter, Rick is completely devastated. Together with Carl, he gets to a small town. There are no living people there and Rick and Carl take refuge in one of the houses. All this time, zombies are trying to break into them. Rick, still recovering from the wounds received during the first storming of the prison, falls seriously ill. Karl, who is only eight years old, is forced to protect their temporary shelter and take care of his sick father.

Rick gets better soon. After running out of food taken out of prison and found in abandoned houses, Rick and his son go hunting in the nearby forest. During another hunt for game, they find a car in good condition and take it to them.

Some time later, Michonnie, who escaped from the Governor, comes to their hideout, after which they decide to go in search of people who left the prison after the first attack of the Governor. In the car Rick found, they hit the road and soon find Dale, Andreu, Glenn, Maggie and the kids at Hershel's farm.

What We Become / Who we have become (55-60)

Rick, Carl and Michonny are once again among friends, although the meeting is far from joyful due to the news Rick brings. For Maggie, what happened turns into a shock when she learns that all members of her family are dead. Dale is also dissatisfied, he begins to be afraid of Rick and confesses this to Andrey.

One night, new living people appear at the farm - ex-military Abraham, his girlfriend Rosita and a man named Eugene, who introduced himself as a scientist.

Fear The Hunters (61-66)

During the next halt, a terrible event occurs - for unclear reasons, little Ben kills his brother Billy. This puts Rick in a difficult position. Ben can harm any member of the group and no one will understand. Abraham proposes to kill the boy, which understandably causes protest from Dale, Andrea and Rick, but some agree with Abraham, however no one can bring themselves to do it. The dispute is unexpectedly resolved by Carl, who kills Ben early in the morning while everyone is sleeping. Nobody sees this, the boy was able to quietly get through Glen on duty.

As it turned out, Dale deliberately lagged behind the group, as he was bitten during the last attack of the dead. Soon the cannibals are approached by Rick, Abraham and Andrea, who brutally deal with them.

Rick gradually becomes afraid of himself after what he did, Carl confesses to him in the murder of Ben, and this upsets Rick the most. Before his death, Dale nevertheless admits to Rick that he thinks about him, but does not deny that until now all his companions are alive thanks to him, so he asks Rick to continue to lead the group of survivors.

Life Among Them/ Life Among Them (67-72)

After Abraham and Rick rescue the ambushed miners, Aron announces his trust to Rick and his companions and invites them to join the community.

The town really looks peaceful, as it was before the zombie epidemic. As it turned out, Aron is a scout who is looking for survivors, and if they have positive qualities, he invites them to the community to expand it. There is a place for every new person here. So Rick and Michoni become local law enforcement officers, Gabriel, respectively, the priest, Abraham - the builder, Morgan - the cook, etc. Douglas, the leader of the community, makes a good impression.

The harrowing journey of Rick and his friends has come to an end, but are they ready to return to a peaceful life?

Too Far Gone / We went nowhere further (73-78)

On the very first trip, Abraham finds himself in a situation where their company is attacked by walkers.

Andrea was hit by the son of Douglas. This is noticed by his mother (Regina) and begins to woo him, but her son says that this is only communication. Glenn, on the pretense of resupplying, ends up in the armory when Olivia was handing out weapons. Rick, having acquired a weapon, offers it to Andrea, but she refuses and starts a conversation in which she points out that they are safe here and nothing bad should happen.

After meeting Pete, he learns that he quarreled with his wife and therefore spends the night here. Later, Rick remembers that he noticed a bruise on Ron (Pete's son). After drawing analogies and talking with Pete's wife Jacey, he comes to Pete and starts a showdown, which results in a fight. (Small digression: after this scene, a joke was added to the comic in the form of a colored fragment). Result: Jaycee and son move in from Pete, Rick already feels like a complete psycho.

But he declares that the leader is now RICK! ..

Unexpectedly for everyone, a herd of the dead wanders to the town. Abraham and his comrades barely have time to return, as the herd takes the town in a tough siege. Andrea is trapped in the belfry.

Rick urgently takes action to ensure the safety of people. Additional armed posts are set up, and several families are concentrated in one house. Jaycee and Ron move into Rick and Carl's house.

In the morning, another nuisance is discovered - one of the sections of the wall surrounding the town turns out to be unreliably fixed and begins to stagger under the pressure of the dead. Glenn, Heath and Spencer make a desperate attempt to get through to Andrea, and in the end, all four are cut off from the rest.

Meanwhile, the unreliable section still falls off and the dead begin to seep into the town. They kill Tobin and bite Morgan, and Michonny cuts off his bitten hand.

Having captured one of the walkers, he smears himself with the insides of a dead man, as he did before, and goes to the rescue with Carl, Jesse, Ron and Michonni.

Abraham, Glenn, Spencer, Aaron, and other survivors collect the corpses to be burned.

Passing by the graves, Rick spots Michoni near Morgan's grave. She says she will never be happy.

The next morning, Andrea, Maggie, Olivia, Eron, and Eric start killing the dead.

A Larger World (91-96)

The group that went to the city returns with a large supply of provisions, but Rick realizes that soon there will be no food at all and decides to establish agriculture. Andrea finally decides to forget about Dale's death. Carl is tormented by nightmares, he remembers how he killed Ben.

Abraham and Michonni go to the city to investigate. All this time, a stranger armed with a revolver is watching them. Abraham and Miccioni meet him after a brief encounter with zombies. He turns out to be a rather dexterous type, he takes the sword from Michonni and takes Abraham hostage.

Rick asks the group to start preparing, after which he visits Paul and asks him some questions. Michoni, Abraham and Rick decide to find the communities Paul was talking about under Andrea's cover.

After going through a rather difficult path, Rick, along with Paul, Michoni, Glenn, Carl and Andrea, get to the wanderer's community.

It turns out that the community, headed by Gregory, is covered by a gang of a certain Negan, who call themselves "Saviors".

The group returns and Maggie confesses that she is pregnant. Abraham and Eugene go into the city for things. While discussing Eugene and Rosita's relationship, Abraham and Eugene are attacked by unknown "Saviors" who have been secretly following them all the way. Abraham is killed and Eugene is taken hostage by one of Negan's men, Dwight.

Carl discovers his father and Andrea together naked in bed. Suddenly, Dwight visits the community. He, threatening to kill Eugene, demands that Rick let his people into Alexandria. Just then, Eugene bites off Dwight's scrotum, which gives Rick's group a chance to attack the disoriented attackers. In the end, Negan announces that he will return to Alexandria in a week and take half of the property from its inhabitants. An enraged Maggie hits Rick for not being able to do anything. Carl points a gun at her, but Sofia's intervention stops the conflict.

Rick's group makes it to the Hilltop. In a conversation with Gregory, who is more concerned about whether the "Saviors" found out about the agreement between them, it turns out that none of his people even knew about the existence of Negan. Andrea leads Rick to one of the captured Saviors, Dwight.

(103-108)

While Jesus is following Dwight, Negan's company arrives in Alexandria with him. Rick has to open the gate and let them in. Negan's gang go into every house and take whatever they want. Negan personally lets Rick hold his bat, leaving him unarmed. But realizing that his people can harm the inhabitants of the city, Rick just stands there, and does not try to kill Negan. When the gang is loading their "loot" into the van, Negan gets into one of them and drives away. At this time, Rick returns home and does not find Carl. Jesus is discovered and Dwight takes him to Negan's base. But Jesus manages to escape unnoticed. As the Saviors are unloading the van, they notice Carl sneaking into the Saviors' van with Abraham's machine gun. He kills several "Saviors". But Dwight, who arrived at the place of unloading, manages to disarm the guy. Communication is interrupted by the message of one of the subordinates, that a certain Mark is ready. Negan reveals that if his new "wife" had a husband or boyfriend, Negan burns half of his face, showing that the new girl is now completely at Negan's mercy. Negan publicly burns the tied guy's face and then takes Carl to talk about future plans...

zombie world

The zombie image developed in The Walking Dead is most similar to the zombie image created by George Romero in his early films of the early 1970s. These are classic "slow zombies" who died and resurrected again. These zombies are quite tenacious, able to endure severe cold in winter, while freezing or reducing activity, and restore it with the onset of the warm season. Zombies do not distinguish between human speech, reacting only to loud sounds. The main way to identify zombies among themselves is a specific smell; transferring this smell to their clothes, a person becomes invisible to them. This feature helped Glenn and Rick get into the depths of Atlanta in search of weapons, as well as Mishoni to spend several months surrounded by zombies, having virtually no shelter.

Zombies are shown in varying degrees of decomposition, up to a complete skeletonization of the body, but even so they retain some motor ability. The greatest speed of movement and reaction is shown immediately after treatment, in the first months of existence, due to the best preservation of the body. The only way to permanently kill a zombie is severe CNS damage, resulting from the head being smashed with a heavy object such as a shovel or hammer (Tyreese's favorite weapon). Cutting off a zombie's head is not enough to kill it completely, as the head still shows some signs of activity after that.

Another important trait is the route of infection, one of which is the bite. A person bitten by a zombie usually turns into it in about a day. The only way to avoid this is the surgical amputation of the damaged part of the body, if possible, in the first hours after the injury. Under the right conditions for the operation, a person survives, as was proved by the example of the amputation of Dale's right leg. But, as it turns out, the bite only significantly speeds up the conversion process; regardless of the cause of death, all people will be resurrected as zombies, which echoes the concept of zombies in the work of George Romero, where the same principles apply.
