A box of colored pencils PRISMACOLOR =)

Yes... I have been looking at them for a long time, reading rave reviews about how good, bright, blending and generally drawing they are!
And despite the fact that I rarely draw with colored pencils, the interest to try what they were was very strong.
Now I will do it!

Test criteria:
- brightness and saturation of colors;
- is it true that mixing in several layers is possible;

Box of PRISMACOLOR colored pencils, 24 pcs

Let's get started...
Film off the box!

Opening...

Here they are: 24 pieces of colored pencils

For convenience, I take out trays (or whatever they are called) with pencils

Here, all colors

So they draw (empty space - white).
Very bright and saturated colors - they speak the truth!

Loved this blue one so pretty! I would draw everything with them, even if it is grass =)

Blending with white (later, I will write more about blending with a pencil blender).
First I'll try a thin layer of colored pencils and white on top - it turned out to be such a light gradient

But light is not serious, I want richer!
Wow... this is really a good result: from greenish blue to ultramarine and feathered with white - a classic sky

And now multilayer blending (pure colors):
The first strip - 1 color/layer, the second - 2 layers, ..., the ninth - 9 layers!
9 layers and the colors still keep mixing! Moreover, 9 is not the limit, it's my sheet of paper that ended in that direction.
I'm shocked! The very best of my colored pencils only blend in three coats, and then they start to slip and the hue doesn't change at all. Here colors are mixed with each new layer - the pencil partially covers, partially mixes with the lower layers

In general, I'm really impressed ... These are the most unusual colored pencils that I have come across (and I have quite a lot of pencils). And this is the rare case when I absolutely do not know how to describe my feelings from working with thin. material. Yes, you can see above for a description of some of the features of these pencils, but these are just photographs. Maximum 20% of the impression. I can not characterize these pencils and their "behavior" in any way. I would like to say that they are oily, but no, I have oil pencils - they are completely different thins. materials. They mix somewhere approximately, like pastels, but do not give dust and crumbs. Very soft.
It's like talking about the taste of a cake, showing it in pictures - not that. =)

In general, I like them and everything that they say about them is pure truth!
And even if this post is considered advertising, I still will not change a word in it.
And now I want a set of 150 pieces...

Probably a wonderful Soviet cartoon about what she is capable of. pencil box, turned more than one little man of preschool or primary school age into a house artist, giving him a cheerful and bright motivation for creativity. Meanwhile, pencils, if used wisely and with imagination, are capable of things that many of us have never even dreamed of. Sculptures, decorations, installations, mosaic puzzles - and this is just a small list of what is hidden in a small box of pencils. And in our today's review - a selection the most original works of art from pencils and crayons.

Mini sculptures from pencil leads

Probably the most famous sculptor and pencil lead carver is the American artist Dalton Getty, who lives and works in Connecticut. For more than 25 years, he has been turning pencils into masterpieces, and his amazing miniatures, carved on the tip of a sharpened stylus, arouse admiration and inspire people to be creative. Patience in large quantities, perseverance, a sharp scalpel - that's what a sculptor needs to work. Moreover, patience is a particularly important tool, because some particularly complex works take several months of life from the master. According to online publications, he never sold finished pencil sculptures, but only presented them as gifts to his friends. By the way, some enthusiasts who are not alien to contemporary art try to imitate the master, and they do it quite well.

Mini sculptures from crayons

Vietnamese craftswoman Diem Chau, is no less famous than the previous author, thanks to her original sculptures from colored crayons. She can turn a box of crayons into figures of people or animals, cut out a portrait of a real person, focusing on the image in the photo, create an abstract lace sculpture. It takes the artist 3-4 hours to create one such work. The latest works of Diem Chau, which attracted the attention of society, are a series of 12 multi-colored signs of the Chinese zodiac and world-famous football players, including Didier Drogba, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Fabio Cannavaro, whose figurines were ordered by Nike to the craftswoman. The artist spent more than two weeks on this unusual order, briefly interrupted by sleep and food, and the result of her work was 11 sets of mini-sculptures, packed in exclusive handmade cases.

Pencil carving

Admirers of the incredible work of Dalton Getty live in all corners of the earth, and it is not surprising that from time to time wonderful pencil carvings appear on the Internet, inspired by the works of this talented master. So, for a long time Japanese sculptors Mizuta Tasogare and Kato Jado have been fond of this work, and their works help the master from Hungary to create, who publishes his works under a pseudonym cerkahegyzo.

Pencil totems

And some of the pencil cutters turn them into amulets, totems, probably endowed with special powers. It should be expected that these totems will protect the muse of the artist, and protect the master from despondency and creative crisis, which could prevent him from creating, creating beauty.

Carving on colored crayons

Diem Chau turns Crayola crayons into sculptures of animals, humans and mythical characters, while artist Pete Goldlust creates carved, twisted, lace and other original abstract sculptures from them. His technique is very similar to that used by the authors already mentioned, carving all kinds of sculptures from ordinary simple pencils.

Pencil Jewelry

It is believed that any woman can make three things out of nothing: a scandal, a salad and a hat. And if you give her a box of colored pencils in her hands and leave her alone for some time, this can make amazing collections of bright, multi-colored, summer-like cheerful jewelry, consisting of rings, brooches, necklaces, pendants, bracelets, pendants and beads .

Sculptures from pencils

Not only miniature, but also large-scale pencil sculptures are created by modern masters of non-standard art. From pieces of crayons and pencils and whole units, you can build something appetizing, like donuts and ice cream, like Federico Uribe does, or something strange and incomprehensible, like geometric sculptures from the 72 Pencils series from an artist named George W. Hart. And the fame of the craftswoman Jennifer Maestre brought sculptures from pieces of sharply sharpened pencils, which take the form of fantastic creatures from the world of flora and fauna.

Drawings on pencils

Convinced that pencils can not only be used for drawing, but also used as a material for sculptures and decorations, one can hardly be surprised that the artist Ghostpatrol draws not with pencils, but with pencils. The plots, the characters of which are fairy-tale characters, are drawn on several pencils, folded in a row and forming a kind of wooden canvas. And on these canvases - beautiful, insanely cute kawaii boys and girls, looking at which it is impossible not to smile.

Portraits from pencil shavings

And some artists do not need pencils for drawing at all. They have enough of those remnants of wooden "shirts" that are obtained after the pencil has been processed with a sharpener. Famous artist Kyle Bean used pencil shavings to draw a series of portraits for his art project Pencil Shaving Portraits.

Mosaic portraits from colored crayons

And in the portfolio of another artist, Christian Faur (Christian Faur), an important place is occupied by a series of puzzle paintings lined with colored crayons Crayola. The very ones from which some of the already mentioned creative personalities carve sculptures. To create one picture, the artist needs several tens of thousands of such wax crayons. Subsequently, they add up to stunning landscapes, portraits, or simply beautiful patterns that can be multi-colored or black and white, like photographs. The only difference is that the works of Christian Faur are exclusively the fruits of his imagination, and their scale is the so-called plus-size.
