How to draw a wavy line. How to draw a wavy line in Photoshop

27.03.2019

Of course, one of the simplest and most commonly used elements in drawing is the line. Adobe Photoshop is no exception. Especially if you plan to come to grips with the study of website design.

One of the advantages of the Photoshop program is the interchangeability of actions. You can achieve the same result in many different ways. Now we will explore several options for command sequences with which we can make a line in Photoshop.

Let's start by creating a new document. A 1000 x 1000 pixel document is fine for us. A detailed description of creating a new document in Photoshop can be found here.

Let's start with the line tool. We will find it on the tank panel.

Now let's set the characteristics of our future line.

Let's set the line thickness. I decided that a thickness of 4 pixels would suit me. If you wish, you can choose her style. I'll stick with the simplest.

Let's decide on a color. You will also find the icon for choosing the main color on the sidebar. On click, a window for choosing a color is called.

Well, now everything! We draw. We make a click on the workspace and drag a line with the mouse.

Now our line is a smart object. You can turn it into a regular layer in the layers window using the "rasterize layer" command.

The line is ready. As you can see, drawing a straight line in Photoshop is very simple. We have analyzed an elementary method, which, despite its convenience, has a number of limitations. Let's break down the second one and draw a line with the pen tool.

It should be noted that in this case it is worth changing the brush or pencil settings to the appropriate ones in advance, because your line will repeat these outlines. Therefore, let's set up the pencil tool together. Select it from the sidebar. And click on the workspace.

Set the following pencil settings. How to choose the color mentioned above.

Look for the pen tool in the sidebar.

We make two clicks on the workspace. It should be noted that if you want to make the line even and strictly horizontal or vertical, hold down the shift key while clicking.

Click on the line with the left key. In the drop-down list, select the command "outline the path."

Outline the outline and click again with the left mouse button. Select the "delete contour" command.

So, the line is ready! In just five minutes, we learned two ways to draw a straight line in Photoshop.

Good day, dear readers of my blog. It would seem, what is it worth to draw a straight line in Photoshop? Clamped Shift and here you are, please. However, this can be done in three ways. The result of each will be different.

In this article, you will learn three ways to draw a straight line in Photoshop. What filter to apply to create a wave. How to do it with another interesting tool. I'll show you how to achieve a dotted line and draw at a certain angle.

Lots of information awaits you. Shall we start?

Line tool

First, I will show you how to use a tool that is designed to create straight lines. In this place you can have a rectangle, oval, ellipse or polygon. Just hold down the left mouse button on the button for a few seconds to open a menu with additional tools.

First about the important. One of the most important parameters is thickness. Thanks to the line, you can even draw rectangles. You just need to make it fatter.

Next comes Fill and Stroke. Click on the plate with the color to the left of the inscriptions and select the shade. If you want to make a stroke, enter its width. Now, my screenshot shows the option without it. The no color icon looks exactly like this. Gray line crossed out in red.

You can see the settings and the result in this screenshot. It's not very visible, but the thickness here is 30 pixels. In a large picture, 30 pixels may look like a modest stripe. Everything needs to be adjusted to your own dimensions.

This is what the line will look like if you choose red for the stroke.

The next button will allow you to make a dashed stroke.

If you reduce the thickness and remove the fill, you will get just a dotted line.

Here you can also align the stroke to the inside, outside, or center of your path.

And round the corners. True, it will not be so noticeable.

If you press Shift while you're drawing a line, Photoshop will automatically create a straight line. Horizontal or vertical. Depending on where you're taking her.

If you need a line at a certain angle, then the easiest way is to see what the information window shows and correct it manually, directing it in a certain direction.

Well, now I'll show you another one.

Brush Tool

I drew these rectangles using lines drawn with a brush.

Choose the type and size that suits the brush line.

Put a dot at the expected beginning of the line, hold down Shift and left-click where the strip should end.

There are two lines in front of you. The yellow one was drawn with the Line tool, the purple one with a brush.

How to make a wave

No matter what tool you use, the easiest way to make a wavy line is with a filter. Go to this category, find "Distortion" and select "Wave".

Based on the preview image, you will quickly understand what's what and how to set it up. The amplitude should be about the same. If it doesn't work, you can just click on "Randomize" until the right one appears.

There is always quick access to the last applied filter. I apply it to the layer with the yellow stripe drawn with the tool.

Here is the result I got. As you can see, it is different.

Pen Tool

To be honest, I still can't use a pen professionally. I know that they can draw anything: smoothly, quickly, fun and cool, but it takes me a lot of time and the result is not always at the level I expected. Nevertheless, I can even draw straight lines with a pen. Curves are worse, but I'll try. I choose "Pen".

I put a dot, then another. Until I release the mouse button, I adjust the smoothness.

I do the same with each new point.

After all the manipulations are completed, I press the right mouse button and select "Stroke the contour" in the menu that appears.

You can select several tools: pencil, brush, stamp, pattern, and so on. Now let this one be a brush.

Right-click again and select Delete Outline.

Here is the result I got.

Well, do not forget that you can always use the skills of creating collages. Read the article about how to take a line from any picture and paste it into your image.

The Phoroshop program, in addition to the wide possibilities for processing ready-made images, for example, photographs, provides many different possibilities for drawing. You can draw with pencil and brush tools. This immediately creates a bitmap image. You can correct the drawn by erasing the created elements with an elastic band.

Tool PenTool (Pen) is intended for drawing vector contours. Vector contours can be saved, edited, enlarged, reduced. The possibilities of this tool are endless. But it's not easy to get the hang of it.

What are contours and why are they needed

Paths are vector line objects, utility objects that allow you to easily and quickly create interesting images. In general, a path consists of one or more straight or curved segments. Anchor points mark the position of the endpoints of path segments. The shape of the path segments is determined by the guides coming out of the anchor points.

Paths by themselves in Photoshop have no thickness or color. They are an auxiliary tool for performing various actions: selections of complex shapes, building images, for curvilinear text arrangement (along some curve), etc.

The contour can be closed, having neither beginning nor end (such contours include ellipses and arbitrary polygons),

or open, with separate endpoints (such as a zigzag or wavy line).

Paths are saved in the current document along with bitmap objects. All contours in the document are available on the palette Paths (Contours).

What can be done with the contour?

1. Draw a contour, stroke it (the Stroke Pass command, right-click on the contour - select from the menu) to form a line (specify the stroke tool, having previously selected the color, thickness and other parameters);

2. If the contour is closed, you can paint the inner area in any color (Fill Pass command, right-click on the contour - select from the menu) or convert the contour to a selection (Make Selection command, right-click on the contour - select from the menu).

Drawing shapes (rectangles, ellipses, etc.) is essentially drawing inline contours of a certain shape, the inner area of which is painted in the selected color.

How to draw a freeform outline?

You need to draw a contour with the Pen Tool (Pen).

To draw a straight path, you define the position of the path's anchor points with mouse clicks, and Photoshop automatically connects them with straight lines.

To create a curved contour segment, click the point where the direction of the curve changes and, without releasing the left mouse button, move the pointer. A guide will appear on the canvas (it defines the curve of the segment) and a curve that will curve smoothly as you move the mouse. When the curve takes the desired shape and size, you need to release the mouse.

If you hold down the "Shift" key while working with the tool, a contour of the correct shape will be created (adjacent break points will be located at angles that are multiples of 45 °, and smoothing points will be placed on an arc of an imaginary circle).

Pen tools

Tool toolbar photoshop Pen tool (Pen) includes several tools:
tool Pen Tool (Pen) - designed to draw a vector contour (the contour is set by a set of its anchor points);
Freeform Pen Tool (free pen)- intended for drawing a vector contour (the contour is set by a set of lines drawn by hand);
tool Add Anchop Point Tool & nbsp (Add anchor point) - designed to add new anchor points to an existing vector contour, with its help you can change the shape of the contour, move nodes or guides;
tool Delete Anchop Point Tool (Delete anchor point) - designed to remove existing anchor points from a vector contour, it can also be used to change the shape of the contour, move nodes or guides;
tool Convert Point Tool (Angle) - designed to change the type of anchor points and the shape of existing vector contours.

By default, the Pen tool is active in the Pen group, to select another tool in this group, you need to right-click on the group button (hold it for a few seconds), and then click the name of the required tool in the menu that appears on the screen.

To call the tools of the "Pen" group, there is also a "hot" key "R". Pressing this key activates the last used tool in the group. To switch between the tools of the group, press the key simultaneously. "R" and key "shift"(as a result of each pressing, the next tool in the list is activated).

Pen tool settings panel

On the tool settings panel Feather the following items should be noted:

Further, using the appropriate buttons, you can go directly from the options panel to the tool Pen tool (Pen), Freeform Pen Tool (Free pen), Rectangle Tool (Rectangle), Rounded Rectangle Tool (Rectangle with rounded corners), Ellipce Tool (Ellipse), Polygon Tool (Polygon), Line The buttons are responsible for setting one or another mode of combining contours (new contour, adding to an existing contour, subtraction, intersection of contours, etc.) and are similar to the same settings for selection tools.

For mode Shape Layers (Layer-figure) there are buttons

  • Style- is used to select the style that will be used when designing the contour fill. By clicking on the drop-down button, you can view the available Photoshop CS4 style swatches
  • Field Color- designed to display and change the fill color of the outline. When you click on the field, a color selection dialog box appears on the screen, in which the user can specify the desired color for filling the contour.

Did it seem to you that everything is very difficult? Nothing like this! A simple example. Try it, everything will work out!

Lines, as well as other geometric elements, are an integral part of the work of the Photoshop wizard. With the help of lines, grids, contours, segments of various shapes are created, skeletons of complex objects are built.

Today's article will be completely devoted to how you can create lines in Photoshop.

As we know from the course of school geometry, lines are straight, broken and curved.

Straight

To create a straight line in Photoshop, there are several options using different tools. All the main construction methods are given in one of the existing lessons.

Therefore, we will not linger in this section, but immediately move on to the next one.

broken line

A broken line consists of several straight segments, and can be closed, making up a polygon. Based on this, there are a couple of ways to build it.

  1. Open polyline

  • Closed polyline
  • As we said earlier, such a line is a polygon. There are two ways to construct polygons - using the appropriate tool from the group "Figure", or by creating a freeform selection followed by a stroke.

    • Figure.

When applying this method, we get a geometric figure with equal angles and sides.

To get the line (contour) directly, you need to adjust the stroke, called "Stroke". In our case, it will be a solid stroke of a given size and color.

      After turning off the fill

      we get the required result.

Such a figure can be deformed and rotated using the same "Free Transform".

    • Rectilinear lasso.

With this tool, you can build polygons of any configuration. After setting several points, a selected area is created.

This selection must be circled, for which there is a corresponding function that is called by pressing PKM across the canvas.

In the settings, you can choose the color, size and position of the stroke.

    Curve

Curves have the same parameters as polylines, that is, they can be closed or open. There are several ways to draw a curved line: tools "Feather" and "Lasso", using shapes or selections.

    1. Open
    2. This line can only be drawn "Feather"(with a stroke outline), or "freehand". In the first case, the lesson, the link to which is above, will help us, and in the second, only a firm hand.

    3. Closed
    • Lasso.

This tool allows you to draw closed curves of any shape (segments). Lasso creates a selection, which, in order to obtain a line, must be outlined in a known way.

    • oval area.

In this case, the result of our actions will be a circle of a regular or elliptical shape.

To deform it, it is enough to call "Free Transform" (CTRL+T) and, after pressing PKM, select the appropriate additional function.

On the grid that appears, we will see markers, by pulling which you can achieve the desired result.

It is worth noting that in this case the effect extends to the line thickness as well.

    • Figure.

Let's use the tool "Ellipse" and, applying the settings described above (as for a polygon), create a circle.

After deformation, we get the following result:

As you can see, the line thickness remains unchanged.

This concludes the lesson on creating lines in Photoshop. You and I have learned how to create straight, broken and curved lines in different ways using various program tools.

Do not neglect these skills, since they help to build geometric shapes, contours, various grids and wireframes in Photoshop.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create beautiful abstract lines that will come in handy in the design of your work. This tutorial is perfect for beginners.

This is what the final result looks like:

Step 1. Create a new document 800x800 px in size, fill the background with black. Create a new layer above the background, press the P key to activate pen tool(Feather). Create a line like in the screenshot below:

If you can't draw a curve, no big deal. To do this, hold down the ALT key and drag the end of the curve to edit its shape:

Press B to activate brush tool(Brush), select a 1 px brush:

In the window color picker(Color selection) select the desired color:

Activate again pen tool(Pen) (P), then right-click on the created curve and select Stroke Path(outline stroke):

Choose Brush(Brush) from the drop down menu, make sure the option is Simulate Pressure(Simulate pressure) is active, and click OK:

And we get such a beautiful curve:

Step 2 Using the process described above, we create three more lines. Make sure that:
    - each line is on a separate layer;
    - for the first line, the brush size is 2 px, the second - 3 px, the third - 4 px;
    - reduce the opacity of the layers to 80%, 60% and 40%.

We correct the location of the lines and get the following result (4 lines on 4 layers):

Step 3 Create a group "Lines" Layer - New - Group(Layer - New - Group) and move all 4 layers with lines into it. Duplicate the group once and merge the copy of the group into one layer (CTRL+E). Reduce the opacity (opacity) of the new layer to 70% and move the lines below and to the left to create a depth effect:

We continue to duplicate the layer to create more lines:

Now we need to color the lines a bit. To do this, use an adjustment layer. Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Hue/Saturation(Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Hue / Saturation) for layers with lines (do not forget to create a clipping mask for the adjustment layer CTRL + ALT + G).

    Choose any color you like:

We continue to add more colors. You can use Free Transform(Free Transform) (CTRL+T) to adjust the angle of the lines:

We also adjust the size of the lines:

Step 4 Now let's add some gray lines. For this, we pass Image - Adjustments - Desaturate(Image - Adjustment - Desaturate) or SHIFT+CTRL+U to desaturate one of the layers:

By blending the gray lines together with the rest:

And we get the following result:

Step 5 Almost finished. Now merge the layers with the lines that we created into one (CTRL + E), then duplicate them, rotate, change position:

Let's add abstract dots around the lines to diversify the work. To do this, set up the brush as shown below (press F5 to bring up the brush options window).
