How to learn to draw graffiti on paper for beginners. Finishing touches, strokes, highlights, background elements

11.04.2019

Modern and at the same time very original art has recently become incredibly diverse. Art includes much more than we think. Over the past few years, youth creativity has acquired a huge number of interesting types and forms of art.

Art

A kind of art is the so-called graffiti. It would seem that a couple of years ago, such inscriptions and drawings were known only in the largest cities of the United States of America, and now even children in Russia know what it is. Few people know that graffiti is a rather ancient art. If at one time this form of “drawing” could be considered acceptable, now it is not, although competitions and even protests are already taking place in different cities of Russia, where schoolchildren draw graffiti, and far from the same as in America. Our children draw decent pictures, the most popular of which are those made on the theme of the Great Patriotic War.

What can I say, even pensioners who went through the war are happy to see graffiti on the walls, made as a gift to them for saving Russia from the Nazis. But now is not about that.

How to learn to draw graffiti?

Learning how to draw graffiti is not so difficult, but a beginner should always understand that his training will not be done on the walls, but on a regular piece of paper in order to hone his skills. Drawing graffiti on paper with a pencil is very simple, but it will take far more than 15 minutes of your time - much more, of course, only if you want to draw really high-quality drawings.

Dear friends, today you will finally learn how to draw graffiti on paper using an ordinary pencil.

What is needed for graffiti?

In order to make graffiti (for beginners) on paper with a pencil, you need the following items:

  • white paper - and best of all, of course, an album, thanks to which you can watch your progress;
  • an eraser and, of course, a pencil in order to make sketches, which will become the basis for the drawing;
  • colored pencils, markers, felt-tip pens and similar items that will help us draw graffiti on paper;
  • self-confidence and self-confidence.

Today we will tell you how to draw graffiti on paper with a pencil, and you watch carefully so that everything works out.

How to draw graffiti?

As you already understand, in order to draw graffiti, you need to be able to draw at least a little, since it will be extremely difficult to draw stunning pictures from scratch, even more than that - it is impossible. Without a doubt, for the first time you will have to draw graffiti on paper with a pencil in stages, and then, perhaps, on your own.

First of all, try to draw voluminous text yourself. If you manage to do this, the most difficult graffiti will someday succumb to you too.

Everyone can draw a picture, but it will take a lot of time to learn this type of art. No one argues, there are self-taught people who draw better than some professionals, but know that it would be best to go to a special graffiti school where you will be taught everything related to this art form. If there is no such school in your city, you will have to study on your own, but for this you need to first learn the theory.

Graffiti and its types

To put it bluntly, it can be argued that graffiti are inscriptions and drawings on different walls, train cars and completely different surfaces. Graffiti on paper with a pencil for beginners in stages - this is what you need, since you have already landed on this page. Graffiti is, first of all, an art form, so inscriptions like "Petya was here" or "CSK - champion" are not graffiti - these are ordinary hastily written inscriptions, so do not confuse.

As you probably already understood, graffiti is divided into several types:

  1. Writing is the main category of painting on the streets of cities, which includes a variety of inscriptions and very beautiful pictures.
  2. Bombing - This form is called extreme drawing. Why is that? Because here it doesn’t matter how beautiful and pleasant the drawing is for people, the main thing is where and under what conditions the inscription or drawing was made. Similar designs can be seen on train cars or car doors.
  3. Tagging is the simplest type of such drawings, which is an ordinary unpretentious artist's signature.
  4. Scratching is graffiti drawings that are made using a special stone that cuts glass.

On paper, you can only do tagging and, in fact, writing.

Tagging

Before you start making a drawing in this format, you should come up with the word that you will use in your drawing. Graffiti on paper with a pencil will not take you very much time, however, in order to draw a really worthwhile tag, you will need to try.

The essence of the tag is an ordinary signature of the person who draws, in other words, when drawing graffiti in this form, you can use either your real name or surname, or some invented pseudonym. The complexity of an inscription can only be assessed by reading it, that is, the harder it is to read your inscription, the more difficult it is to complete it. In no case do not forget to decorate the letters you draw with various curls and your own author's elements. Write the words in an original way so that it is difficult to read, but at the same time the graffiti looks more than good. Don't forget to use the basic elements of tagging: asterisks, crowns, dots, and more.

Writing

If you are one of those people who already know how to draw something, tagging is probably a very simple task for you. In such a situation, you need to try yourself in a more complex form of graffiti on paper with a pencil, which is referred to in art as writing.

First of all, it would be best to depict some specific inscription, for example, the name is ideal (both your own and someone else's - even the most beloved dog). You can also use your favorite word or something similar.

For beginners in this business, the following graffiti is ideal. For beginners on paper with a pencil, it will be easier to try to draw in a strict style and large size. In no case, if you are drawing a writing for the first time, you should not try to portray something first-class, try to write some word of 3-5 letters.

Outcome

Today you have learned the types of graffiti, which can be drawn with a simple pencil on paper without any problems. Few could guess that graffiti is now considered an official art form. Also, not everyone is aware that this one was invented many years ago. Did you know that in different cities of the Russian Federation very often (especially in summer) competitions are held among lettering professionals?

Many were not aware of what types of graffiti are: writing, bombing, tagging and scratching. Unfortunately, only two of these species are suitable for paper drawings. Graffiti on paper with a pencil is far from the last type in this art. Many of the most famous graffiti professionals started drawing their images and words also on paper, and now they are getting huge money for painting on houses.

Do you like to draw, but do not know if you can make a high-quality picture? So why not try!? In no case do not draw on buildings, because it is simply prohibited by the legislation of our state, draw breathtaking inscriptions on paper!

Probably, among young people you will not find someone who would not have heard about graffiti. This is not surprising, because in our time it is especially popular in youth circles. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to create such drawings because for this you need to be a “pro” in this style.

Do not forget that such images should be not only beautiful, but also stylish. On the Internet you can find many different programs with which it is easy to draw graffiti. However, we will not resort to the help of third-party capabilities. Today our task is to learn how to create graffiti on paper using just a pencil. After receiving a full-fledged drawing, it is worth coloring it with colored felt-tip pens so that your masterpiece has a finished look.

Navigation

1. Decide on the style

There is probably no such person who at least once did not pay attention to street graffiti drawings. In some cities, this style is welcomed at the level of authorities and separate places are allocated for drawings. If for some reason you have not seen such drawings in your city, look for images on the Internet.

It is very difficult for me to present complete information about all the styles of this direction in one article. We only note the fact that the most fashionable and at the same time light style is the one in which the letters have rounded shapes. This style is called Bubble. At your discretion, you can draw both rounded and sharp edges of the letters.

It's okay if some are larger and others smaller, all this will only add personality to the drawing. If you can’t come up with your own unique style, don’t worry, just use proven styles in your drawings. Over time, when you have more experience in drawing, you can think about your own unique style.

2. Let's draw a word using a piece of paper

You can choose any word for your drawing. The only task is to try to leave a large space between the letters, because later they will need to be expanded. Make the space large as you will need to add more layers, but don't overdo it as we don't need spaces.

3. Let's start drawing the structure of letters

Like most drawings, graffiti must be drawn with small pencil strokes. In this case, it will be much easier to correct the crooked lines. Remember that the process itself requires a lot of patience. Also, do not think that graffiti is drawn quickly.

4. Varieties of line thickness

In your drawings, you can make the same lines with the same thickness, or you can try to add shading or even depict a 3D effect. For example, when you draw the letter "C", try to make the top side wide and the bottom one, on the contrary, understated. Vary the thickness with a pencil, as this is most convenient compared to the same marker or felt-tip pen.

5. Decorate the drawing with additional effects

When the letters are already fully drawn, you should also try to add special effects that will decorate and add zest to the drawing. Be sure to try experimenting. The letters may look like lightning bolts or water drops. The letter "P" looks beautiful when her eyes look out. There are also options when bubbles are drawn around the word. It's like comics. Do not be limited in your fantasies, make the drawing as rich and beautiful as possible.

6. Add shadows with a simple pencil

Using a pencil or felt-tip pen, try to darken the lines that you previously drew with a pencil. Just this will help you correct small errors. Let's say you went beyond the line, or maybe it turned out to be very thick, then try to fill in its volume.

7. Don't monochrome letters

Before you start coloring the letters, you should look at some examples. You should not do everything with one simple pencil, because it will make the drawing one-color. Graffiti is, first of all, bright drawings. Keep this in mind when you paint with paints.

8. Multicolored coloring

Most works in this style consist of several colors. You are given complete freedom, you can make at least each letter of a different color, even if only you like this choice. Additional details of the picture may also have other colors. However, do not make the drawing very colorful, as too bright colors will scatter attention.

Every year the number of painted walls in our cities is growing rapidly. This means that the art of graffiti is attracting more and more people, and more specifically, young people. Everyone who draws on the walls calls themselves graffiti artists or writers, but not all of them are. Many begin to draw, just because it has become fashionable, and not everyone is good at it. As for the real masters, they didn't give a damn about fashion. They are not looking for fame and recognition, but simply paint, leaving amazing pictures on the walls of the city.

If you have a desire and a little ability, then drawing graffiti will not be difficult. First, draw a sketch (sketch), then, with the help of paint, transfer it to the wall. Very often there are significant differences between the sketch and the final result (graffiti on the wall). And some sketches are not needed at all, they just pick up a can of paint and improvise. It just so happened that for the inscriptions in graffiti they use the Latin alphabet, although there are those who make beautiful inscriptions in Russian.

The art of graffiti is multifaceted and, like in any other art, there are several directions. Being able to draw in all directions is quite difficult, and not at all necessary, although some professionals believe that a true master should be able to do everything. So what are these directions?

Tagging - applying your own signature (tag) to walls, other cars, surfaces you like. It can be either a single word or a whole phrase. Teging is the ancestor of modern graffiti, originating in the 70s in New York.

Scratching - applying your tag to the glass. This direction is similar to the previous one, but in the latter case the inscription is made not with paint, but with a stone (mainly for sharpening knives) or, for example, with coarse sandpaper on glass. It is impossible to erase or delete such a drawing (scratch) and this is perhaps its only plus.

Bombing - fast drawing on any surface. The main thing here is speed, everything needs to be done as quickly as possible. Actually, bombing is illegal, and those who “bomb” run the risk of getting into a police “bobby”, and therefore they draw mostly at night when no one sees them, and, of course, they do it very quickly.

Concept drawing is the most difficult direction in graffiti, somewhat similar to traditional painting. These are complex works that combine both inscriptions and drawings. Most often, the implementation of such drawings is legal, as it requires a large amount of time and money. The New School style belongs to this direction.

Draw with style

In addition to directions, there are also styles of graffiti. Here are the most basic ones:

Old School - simple styles are closer to the classics.

Flat - flat drawing. Drawing in this style, the work is flat, not three-dimensional, the letters overlap each other. Usually they draw in two colors and do not detail the picture.

Bubble style - the history of the name of this style is very long. The name comes from the first drawings, the letters on which looked like huge bubbles. Now this is the name of all simple graffiti, no complex elements, the color scheme is limited, as a rule, to two or three colors. The letters do not overlap each other, sometimes they are depicted in a "volumetric" style. Mostly this style of graffiti is used for bombing. What is called, simply and quickly.

Blockbusters and Throw-up - here the size is decisive. The inscriptions made in this style are huge. For their drawing use a roller and wide caps.

Newschool - more modern and sophisticated styles.

Wild style - style of high complexity. The interweaving of letters creates complex and original patterns, there is a certain illusion of three-dimensionality, there are details that make it difficult to understand the pattern, a huge variety of colors. All this leads to the fact that not everyone can understand the drawing, it is most difficult for people who are not familiar with graffiti.

3D-style, FX-style is a combination of styles. The letters are given three-dimensionality, they differ in shape, size and location relative to the coordinate axis, the emphasis is on shadows.

Many graffiti artists use objects in their work in addition to inscriptions. The object can show off in the picture, replacing one letter, or be present in the picture in addition to the inscription. Still writers draw kereks (characs) - the character created by them, their "visiting card".

Letter of the law

Graffiti and the law don't always get along. For example, the decoration of the club, the holding of various competitions and participation in them are absolutely legal. Even if your neighbor asked you to paint his garage and dog house, that's legal too. As for everything else, serious problems can arise here. If you drew in the wrong place and you were caught, then officially you fall under the following articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: art. 167 - intentional destruction or damage to property, art. 214 - vandalism, art. 243 - destruction or damage to monuments of cultural history. According to these articles, the fine is 100,000 rubles, and besides, you can be arrested. This is if everything is official. In fact, everything can be decided with a much smaller amount of money than the 100,000 rubles put into the pocket of a policeman's uncle. In Moscow, for example, it is much easier to get rid of law enforcement officers than in St. Petersburg, where the beauty of the city is watched very closely. But there is a chance not to get caught, even if you draw in a crowded place during daylight hours. The main thing is to be careful and clearly understand where you can draw and where it is strictly prohibited. Of course, there is also such an option, if you don’t want to give money away - drop everything, legs in hand and go!

Choosing a place for a drawing

It is very important to find a good drawing surface. Firstly, you draw not only for yourself, but also in order for your creation to be seen, noticed. Therefore, you need a surface in a public place. Secondly, do not forget about safety. Here the question arises: how to find a balance between this security and the popularity of your drawings? Try to find a place where the drawing will be seen, but you (at the time of creating this drawing) will not. It's not easy, but it's possible.

Location is not the only criterion by which a graffiti surface is chosen. The type of material on which you are going to draw is also very important. An uneven surface such as a fence with an ornament, metal or unpainted wood is not suitable for painting. Do not draw on rust or whitewash, because then your drawings will not be called long-lived, they will disappear along with the top layer. But what is really suitable is porous concrete (do not confuse it with concrete slabs). And if you want to create the most suitable surface for drawing, prime it. And if you still decided to paint not on metal, then you should take the trouble to degrease it so that the paint lays better. Try not to draw in the rain and cold. The surface must remain dry. And in the cold, the paint does not fit well and dries slowly. And my hands are cold too.

How to draw

Let's talk about colors first. They are sold in cylinders of different volumes (from 0.4 to 0.6 liters). Here are the most common:

Paint name Comment Average price

Abro One of the cheapest paints, fades quickly Suitable for those who are not yet going to spend a lot on graffiti and do not hope for durability. 105 r.

Abro Sabotage Lasts slightly longer than Abro. But the smell of the paint is not the best, and is more suitable for a female cap. 85 p.

Montana Black One of the best paints. The new Montana Black has become Ideal for graffiti, almost does not fade, lays down well and lasts a long time. 185 r.

MTN Hardcore Suitable for fans of bombing. Quickly fills the surface with color due to high pressure. 170 r.

MTN 94 Excellent ink, semi-gloss, ideal for writing. The unique valve system allows for pressure regulation. 185 r.

Belton Molotow Excellent paint, wide range of colors, excellent for use in sub-zero temperatures. A separate minus is the rather high price. 205 r.

If you see such names - Rust-Oleum, Dutch Boy, Red Devil, Sparvar - don't be scared, they are also good colors, but they are rare in Russia.

Beginners usually take Montana for contours, and Abro for filling. It turns out decently and inexpensively. I strongly advise you not to buy Fiesta, King or Pride paints in auto shops, it is simply not suitable for wall paintings. It is too liquid and dries slowly, so it will flow, and the bottom color will not be able to cover.

For stroking in bombing, you can also use a unique product that is sold by us - Mastic. Large volume, low price.

There is also the possibility of mixing colors. This is done mostly by professionals. A very good way to save money and get the right color. For example, they mix expensive and cheap paint or, when there is little paint left in different cylinders, it is poured from one cylinder to another. Transfusion technology is not simple, so beginners should not experiment. In general terms, the paint is poured like this: the balloon, from where the paint is poured, is heated, and the balloon, where the paint is poured, is cooled, then connected with a ballpoint pen rod and pressed ...

As you already understood, one paint is not enough. And besides paint, there are many more interesting things.

Caps are nozzles for spraying paint. They are tonic and wide. The former are for drawing outlines, while the latter are for creating nice, even fills, especially useful when working with large surfaces. In principle, these caps are quite enough to create graffiti, but if you want more variety and originality, you can purchase a set of calligraphic caps. They are designed for uppercase fonts, they have a rotating atomizer, they can be used to display lines of various thicknesses at different angles. Caps are of two types: male and female. Female caps have a hole in the base and fit over a pin on the top of the tank. Male-cap, on the contrary, is equipped with such a pin. Everything becomes very clear if you know the translation of the words male and female). For cylinders Montana, Belton and Abro, a male cap is suitable, for Abro Sabotage - female. Keep in mind that caps tend to get clogged with paint, so just in case, have a backup with you. Some make caps on their own. For example, to make an ultra-skinny (thin) cap, it is enough to solder the needle from the syringe into the spray hole. But the average price of one cap is about 15 rubles, so it's easier to go to the store and not bother with a soldering iron.

A respirator is a reliable remedy for a chemical attack) But seriously, it is indispensable when working with paint, it is extremely harmful to the lungs. It is recommended to wear it both when working in confined spaces and outdoors. Without it, you can earn asthma. As for the choice of a respirator, then basically the choice falls on the company M3, and the price fluctuates around 1500 rubles. If you need it cheaper, you can buy Soviet gas masks for 150 rubles, they will save you from everything. There is another version of the Chinese mask - it is very cheap, 15 rubles. But the quality here is the same as the price.

The Vandalizer is a wide marker ideal for drawing on smooth surfaces. It is mainly used for tags. It is also well suited for correcting flaws or errors in the drawing, if any. But it’s better not to write on rough surfaces, it will be erased quickly. The most popular vandalizer companies among graffiti artists are Montana, BOMB, On The Run or Aerosol Art. In the store, you will have to pay from 150 to 250 rubles for them. The marker can be refilled. A paint palette (8-12 refills) costs 500 rubles. If the tip of the marker has become unusable, it can also be replaced. I do not recommend painting with a vandalizer larger than L on rough surfaces, it will be very difficult to find a new sting for it. Graffiti artists are still those craftsmen, so they can even make a vandalizer on their own. As a starting material, they use a marker for shoes, only the paint is poured into it on their own. And in order for the paint to mix with the solvent, they throw a steel ball there, for example, from a mouse or a bearing. To prolong the life of the tag, gaffitists apply a layer of wax on it (for example, using an ordinary candle). Some people manage to make indelible paint by pouring a mixture of cheap varnish with varnish remover into the marker. As for the proportions, one can only guess ...

A stencil is a ready-made template for your drawing. You can cut it at home from a piece of linoleum or cardboard. First you need to come up with a sketch, then transfer it to cardboard or linoleum. Using a stencil, you can apply original drawings to the wall or draw tags in an extremely short time.

Gloves - to stay clean. No matter how hard you try to draw neatly and according to all the rules, you will still get dirty. When sprayed, the paint will still fall on your hands or drip from the top of the can, especially if you haven't changed your cap for a long time. If you are still not afraid to get dirty and you are not allergic to paint, then you can not wear gloves in the summer. Although there is nothing difficult in buying a pair of medical gloves at a pharmacy for 2 rubles and not washing off the paint afterwards.

To not make mistakes

So, you've bought your paint, found the right surface to paint on, and are eager to get started. Didn't forget anything? You should consider one more thing:

Do not paint over the graffiti on the wall in a solid color, unless the sketch requires it. Graffiti paint is opaque, so it will paint over anything. Even white can paint over black.

Don't forget the background! Many novice writers make this mistake, start with an outline, and then paint over it with paint. The result is, to put it mildly, not very beautiful. To prevent the same thing from happening, first draw a sketch with the background color of the main inscription, then the background, then the outline.

Sometimes it happens that the paint flows. If you start to stop it with your hands, sleeves, etc., then this is unlikely to save your drawing. The best option is to wait until the paint dries and then paint over the stains with the desired color. You can also grab an ordinary sponge from home and, if the paint suddenly leaks, blot the drips.

Caps should be cleaned after each use. To do this, turn the balloon over and hold the cap pressed for five seconds. The paint will stop coming out, and then you can safely put the can aside. But if you didn't, you can throw the cap away, it's no longer good for anything.

Before starting work, test the paint, otherwise you may ruin the drawing. Spray paint on the ground or on another area of the wall that you don't need to check if everything is in order with the cap, if it is installed correctly, etc. And if the balloon is new, then precautions are doubly necessary, since in the first seconds of drawing it can “spit” with paint.

Writers also have their own "code of honor" and it must be observed. In no case do not touch other people's work, whatever they may be. Do not subscribe to other people's drawings and do not spoil clean walls.

It is best to start by priming the work surface so that the paint lays down better and nothing extra is left on the wall (for example, old drawings). For a primer, you can use enamel or water-based paint. Enamel is a more advantageous option, as it is more resistant than a water-based emulsion, and the colors on it are brighter. It can be used as a background by adding a little different paint, thereby creating the desired color.

Everyone can make beautiful street graffiti! Of course, it is desirable to learn a couple of times on the street, but do not overestimate the complexity of this art. Graffiti is created every day, by many people around the world, why not try it for you too?! With us you will learn how to draw graffiti!

What will we need?

At the stage of developing a sketch, to draw graffiti, we will only need pencils or felt-tip pens and paper.

In the implementation phase, spray paint on the colors of the pattern and the wall. One can costs about 200 rubles, it is advisable to buy at least 6 pieces. Based on one can per square meter of drawing. Also additional caps for thinner lines than standard nozzles.

If you want to reach the ceiling, you will need a stand or stepladder. Wall covering can be almost anything - paintable wallpaper, interior paint or enamel, tiles. Only porous surfaces are not suitable - brick, whitewash.

If you are drawing indoors, be sure to buy a film to cover the floor, 10 linear meters, masking tape, a skein of 50 meters, and a good respirator.

You can do one job without a respirator (there will be no death), but it’s better to wear at least the simplest one and ventilate the room well. Paint, nozzles and a selection of respirators are sold at a good graffiti store, film and tape can be found at a hardware store.

Create a sketch

When creating a sketch, be prepared for the fact that the drawing on the wall will not turn out exactly like on paper. What parts of the drawing do you need to concentrate on, and what can be done according to the circumstances, how will it go? Which dimensions change strictly proportionally, and which ones more freely?

It is convenient to draw a sketch of graffiti on paper with a pencil, correcting it with an eraser. When the shape becomes beautiful and you like it, you can circle it with a felt-tip pen, one or more colors.

Preparing a room for graffiti

The aerosol leaves a lot of dust in the room, which is then easily removed with a rag, in extreme cases with a rag with acetone. It can also inadvertently paint objects that are close to the picture. Therefore, it is best to apply graffiti with an aerosol at home during repairs. If this is not possible, then you need to take out of the room all the interior items that you can, cover the rest with a film.

Walls adjacent to the wall with a pattern should be pasted over with masking tape in two or three rows, so you will have protection from accidental staining of adjacent walls. The floor must be covered with a film along the entire wall with a pattern.

Marking the picture on the wall

If you have paint that is (almost) the same color as the wall, or the exact paint that was used to paint the wall, then it will completely take away your worry that something might go wrong. You can always correct part of the markup and even the finished drawing. In the event that you do not have wall paint, you can also get out by painting over the extra dimensions of the letters with a different color and turning it into additional elements. For example, the stroke line, we have arrows. Conclusion - do not be afraid, everything can always be corrected.

So, approaching the wall, roughly estimate the dimensions of the picture in your head, and how the main elements of the picture will be located, from which you can push off. You can mark with light strokes for yourself any overall dimensions that will help you. For example, the edges of the font, or the center. Anyway, everything will go a little wrong, but it doesn’t interfere with preparation) Do not forget that graffiti is free art.

Primary font color "fill"

The background image of the city at sunset, from above, we skip for simplicity. You just take and draw it.

Fill is the main color of the picture. First, fill in all the necessary areas with a solid color, then with more accurate strokes make the fill more interesting - for example, you can make smooth transitions, a haze effect, or draw a simple pattern of dashes of circles of dots. Everything that is much fantasy, look at the work of other artists!

In our example, dark red split pebbles fall on a bright red color, and yellow arrows jump out against an orange background.

Drawing a contour

The contour makes the shape of the letters final, applied in a contrasting color, usually dark. If in some places you get crooked, you can correct the fill or stroke color. Learning to make a clear, even contour is very difficult, you have to puff.

Finishing touches, strokes, highlights, background elements.

Highlights are white lines that give the picture a sparkle effect. The stroke around the picture, as it were, highlights and lifts the picture. The background elements in our example are arrows and smudges of blue paint that make the drawing more graphically interesting and make the drawing larger.

The final elements are not the most difficult part of the work, but since they are all made in different colors, they easily and quickly make the drawing more interesting, more complex and brighter.

Surely in your city or in any other you paid attention to the intricate inscriptions on fences, fences, garages or concrete. Most often, these drawings are found in suburban areas, where you can express yourself without interference with the help of paints. The inscriptions on the walls are applied by writers, and their drawings are called graffiti. For beginners unfamiliar with this image, the images are often difficult to read. In fact, if you look closely, you can see that letters written in an ornate font are hidden behind incomprehensible symbols. In this article, we will describe how to learn how to apply graffiti step by step, for beginners.

Types of graffiti

Many countries perceive graffiti as vandalism. But there are cities in which the administration has allocated special places for inscriptions and images, for example, Copenhagen in Denmark, Warsaw in Poland, Melbourne in Australia. It is important to know that not every drawing can be called graffiti (especially for beginners) - this is a certain style that deserves attention and respect. Insults and vulgar inscriptions are inappropriate here.

Consider the most common types of drawing images:

Tagging - the signature of the graffiti writer;

Writing - represents beautiful and unusual inscriptions, as well as large paintings;

Bombing - drawings are applied in extreme places; here it is more important not the quality of the application, but the location of the inscription (these can be train cars or electric trains in the subway).

Graffiti for beginners can start with tagging. This is the simplest type of image that a future artist can learn.

In the beginning there was a name

In order to learn how to draw graffiti in stages with a pencil, you need to decide what you want to write. In order not to rack your brains for a long time, use your name or pseudonym for training. Usually writers sign their paintings with them. A common and uncomplicated font used to write a name is a bubble. This type is characterized by bright inflated letters without sharp corners. Which font to choose is up to you. Maybe you like straight lines, then try blockbuster style. In this case, the letters are depicted as straight lines with wide shadows. There is also a font called frow-up. In this style, ordinary letters are drawn with slightly elongated corners. This is the most appropriate font to use when learning graffiti for beginners on paper.

The play of shadows and lines

Graffiti requires individuality, so the more whimsical you create the lettering, the higher your art will be valued. Do not be afraid of improvisation and unusual font. Take a white sheet and try to create a sketch of your name on it. Play with the thickness and length of the lines. Applying graffiti in stages with a pencil, add three-dimensionality. Expand the boundaries of the letters by changing the thickness. Narrow the beginning of the letter, increasing it towards the end. With a pencil, you can create sketches, see mistakes, and as a result, correct inaccuracies or interference. You can use markers to darken lines. If the line turned out to be wider in one place than you would like, do not be afraid to increase its volume. Select places on your sketch where dark or light color will be present. If the edges of the letters, the inscription will acquire volume.

Adding color and effects

Work done in one color is considered simple graffiti. If you want to create something more eccentric, add colors. Color can be one letter, and maybe several. You can also paint over only the shadow, and leave the outline without filling. Additional details can be drawn in a distinctive tone. Graffiti is complicated by the presence of such elements as stars, dots, crowns. For originality, add artificial smudges or highlights. You can depict one of the letters in the form of a drop or lightning. Place the inscription in a large cartoon bubble or bring the letters to life by painting on their eyes. It all depends on your imagination. Connect your imagination and do not be afraid of non-triviality.

First, decide what your inscription will be. Easily readable or unrecognizable, whimsical.

Secondly, for the first sketches, take clean white paper. You should not draw on notebook sheets that have a linear application.

Thirdly, do not forget that graffiti is an abstraction. Consider perspective, volume, and jagged lines.

Fourthly, with the help of one simple pencil, you can apply different types of shading and shade.

Fifth, to create smooth lines, you can make stencils from cardboard. Many artists, achieving the desired result, use different patterns.

Drawing graffiti for beginners in stages on paper is much easier than applying it to the wall without training. Try sketching different letters, then words, moving from simple to complex, gradually developing your own individual style.
