Conducting experience

1. Making a dormant volcano

First you need to wrap plasticine around a cut paper cone, which resembles a volcano in shape. We put the workpiece on a flat plate. It must be larger than the bottom of the volcano: lava will erupt on it. You can decorate the foot of the volcano with artificial grass.

2. Cooking lava.

Conducting experience

1. Preparing the magic solution.

We make a solution of water and alcohol in a ratio of 1: 1. Then add a pinch of salt and mix thoroughly. Pour into the solution in a beautiful container, then to show the audience the “magic liquid”.

2. We impregnate money with “magic”.

In front of the audience, we fill the bowl with the solution. We lower the bill there and let it get wet. The main thing is not to overdo it, otherwise the paper will become limp and tear when you try to get it.

3. We set fire to the banknote.

At this stage it is better to work with tweezers. Holding the banknote firmly, we bring the lighter and quickly take the fire away from ourselves. Do this very carefully so that the flame does not catch on surrounding objects. The burning will stop fairly quickly, and the money will remain unscathed. This is the merit of the “magic solution”: alcohol burns out before the flame has time to dry the water and burn the bill.

You can attract viewers to the trick and, for the purity of the experiment, repeat the experience with their money. This trick will work with any paper. A beautiful experience with an open book.

This is a very original chemical experiment. The reaction proceeds with the release of flames, sparks and thick purple smoke.

Conducting experience

1. Cooking magic liquid.

With distilled water, the experience will be better. The distillate can be purchased ready-made, or you can make it yourself by conducting a separate chemical experiment. For this magic trick, you only need a few drops. For convenience, you should use a vial with a special dispenser, although a pipette is also suitable.

2. Choose a location for the experiment.

Since the experience is accompanied by the release of smoke, it is important to observe safety precautions. The main condition is a well-ventilated room, preferably a fume hood. Making purple smoke at home is not safe. In the absence of a hood, it is better to demonstrate this experience on the street.

3. Cooking magic powder.

Pour aluminum shavings into the ceramic bowl. Make a recess in the hill, add iodine solution there and mix lightly. Ordinary glassware is not suitable for this experiment: it will not withstand high temperatures and will burst.

4. Making purple smoke

In order for our magic powder to ignite, slowly add the previously prepared solution drop by drop. The mixture will quickly burst into a bright flame, sparks will fly, and will fall into a thick purple smoke.

Water serves as a catalyst and activates iodine. Due to this, aluminum loses its protective film and a reaction takes place. As a result, combustion begins with sublimation of the halogen. Magnesium powder will give a similar effect. By changing the ratio of aluminum (or magnesium) shavings and iodine, you can get either more smoke or more fire. If you add iodine in excess, the heat of reaction will go to sublimate this halogen, and the mixture will not catch fire. There will just be a lot of smoke.
