Mauna is the practice of silence. The healing power of silence

30.09.2019

Silence as a spiritual practice is associated with monasticism or ascetic life in India. Indeed, it is difficult for a resident of a metropolis to imagine at least a day without communication. Immediately there is a bunch of excuses about burning projects, children and the inability to be without contact with the outside world. I tried several times to practice days by myself, while leaving an escape route - "the phone for my own", which regularly nullified all these attempts. But once I still managed to uncompromisingly turn off the entire outside world and remain silent for three hours. Then a day, and then two whole days. Now I practice silence for at least a day, at least once a month. Let's figure out what gives us time alone with ourselves and how to make such days a part of our lives.

Proper silence helps restore peace of mind, calm emotions, get to know yourself. When we switch off from the informational noise, only the first minutes or hours are uncomfortable and unusual. Then, gradually, we begin to hear the internal dialogue: not the one that constantly goes in the background and pronounces all the events, giving them an assessment, but the one that comes from our true "I". There comes an understanding and a feeling of what really excites us and matters. A connection with our subconscious is being established, which helps to solve those issues, the real attitude to which was superimposed by public opinion and stereotypes. Even experts in the field of medicine admit that silence contributes to improvement in neuropsychiatric diseases, vegetovascular dystonia and headaches. From personal experience of silence, I can say that after three hours I felt a clarity of consciousness comparable to that which you feel when you go vegan and give up alcohol. Plus, during the practice, feelings are aggravated, and the world around you is seen in the literal sense brighter. Many, starting to practice silence, are afraid that time will drag on for a long time, and the desire to talk will overshadow all others, but then they notice the opposite effect: often a day of silence gives more inner discoveries and awareness than two weeks in popular places of power, and you don’t feel like talking either. during or after this day.

For those who have decided to try to remain silent, the most pressing question is “how?”. The ideal option, which not everyone can afford, is to go out into nature, leaving your phones at home and dedicate a day or two to meditation and walks. When this fails, you can try to be silent at home, which is more difficult due to distractions, for example, neighbors who may be the first to start a dialogue. Either way, it's best to start small. If you decide to be silent together with a friend or spouse, then it is better to spend the day in different places, because it will be difficult for beginners not to “break loose”. Needless to say, it is almost impossible to be silent with small children, so they will have to be left with someone for the duration of the practice.

Question number one is solved, and you are left alone? Turn off phones, internet, TV and tablets. Yes, we turn it off completely, no exceptions! It is important here not to look for compromises - not to put them on silent mode, for example - but to completely cut off your ability to access all the information noise. No correspondence with friends, relatives and colleagues. Even if it seems to us that the world will collapse, in practice it turns out that as soon as we loosen control, everyone is doing just fine without us, and what should happen will still happen.

The last stage is the most difficult - not talking to yourself. Even if you don't have the habit of speaking your thoughts out loud when you're alone (those who do will have to forget about it), stopping the endless internal chatter about nothing will be quite difficult. Naturally, in order to achieve meditative peace of mind, even for a few hours, one must train hard. In our case, it is enough to simply translate the internal dialogue from uncontrolled noise about the situation in the global economy and the color of the wallpaper into something that will benefit.

How to make silence as useful as possible:

  1. Start small. Leave once a week for 2-3 hours to a secluded place that can be found wherever you live, walk and try to block out external noise. Gradually increase the time of silence up to 1-2 days, if possible every 2-4 weeks.
  2. If it is difficult for you to remain silent, do not rush to stop what you started and do not surf the Internet. Reading a book would be a good alternative. Gradually, you will need to come up with an activity so that time passes faster, less and less.
  3. The effect of practicing silence will enhance clean eating (vegetables and fruits) or fasting. True, it is worth going to such experiments after fasting and silence have become habitual for you.
  4. In addition to meditation and walking, find practices that are close to you that complement the silence. For example, close your eyes and try to turn off the perception of all external factors, trying to feel only the sound of the wind, then switch to the singing of birds or the rustle of leaves.
  5. Write about your feelings or thoughts that come to mind. Pour a chaotic stream of consciousness onto paper or describe sensations in the body. All this will help to calm the mind and capture important moments that you can forget about when you plunge back into the daily hustle and bustle.
  6. Don't worry if things go wrong the first time. Try the practice of silence again, try to catch in what environment you are calmer. Do not take on too complex tasks right away. Graduality and regularity are the key to success in almost any business, and the practice of silence is no exception!

Try to analyze how many words a day you say? And how many of them are truly useful and carry any information? Less than half of what we say every day!

Meanwhile, words thrown into the wind have a detrimental effect on our thoughts, do not allow us to concentrate on really important things. In endless idle conversations, we lose control over ourselves, over our own will, and the worst thing is that the more we talk, the more we want to continue doing it and the more difficult it is to stop. When the conversation ceases to be meaningful and conscious, a person turns to a lie, which, in turn, has a negative effect on karma.

If you really realize that your own chatter is hurting you, turn to the practice of mouna. Mauna is the conscious bringing of one's mind and body to a state of renunciation of physical and mental talk. To physical union with yourself.

Antar mauna

As we already know, “mouna” is ‘silence’, and ‘antar’ is translated from Sanskrit as ‘inside’, respectively, ‘antar mouna’ is ‘inner silence’. Such a practice will help to cleanse oneself, find confusion within oneself or, conversely, peace and learn to separate one from the other, thus plunging into the realm of true, creative silence.

Every day we give ourselves completely to worldly affairs and cares, waste our energy and inner strength on what is happening outside of us and do not pay any attention to what is happening inside. Antar mauna focuses us on the conscious perception of our inner "I", the comprehension of our true desires and capabilities and understanding the principles of our own rational and irrational mind. In this way, man evolves and advances towards the attainment of his highest goal.

Meditative practice of antar mauna will be the first step for you on the path to self-improvement, self-awareness. Even a one-hour meditation of this kind will allow a person to eventually discover inner resources in himself, hitherto unknown to him. As you move deeper into your consciousness, you will advance in the ability to look at many life situations through the prism of their versatility and, thus, find many ways to overcome difficulties that previously seemed overwhelming.

Let's take a closer look at the stages of antar mouna. There are six in total:

  1. Attentive listening to what is happening outside of us;
  2. Concentration on one's own thoughts and images that appear from the depths of one's own subconscious;
  3. Moving between the first and second stage, that is, between consciousness and subconsciousness;
  4. Arbitrary production and dissolution of thoughts;
  5. Entering the state of shunya, when thoughts are completely dissolved, and the mind is cleared;
  6. Spontaneous Meditation.

Having mastered the practice of antar mouna, you gain complete control over your consciousness and mind.

Mauna yoga as a way to learn to perceive yourself as you really are

During the sessions of Mauna yoga, performing simple asanas and plunging into meditation, we learn to “see” our own mind, observe our own perception of life.

Mauna yoga is able to teach us to face our fears, negative emotions that we have long hidden deep inside ourselves. You need to be prepared that negative emotions will also come to the surface through mouna yoga - and this is normal. When objectionable thoughts visit us in everyday life, we simply brush them off, drive them away. But turning away from your own fears and thoughts, even negative ones, means refusing to perceive yourself as you really are.

As we achieve success in the practice of Mauna Yoga, we learn to observe ourselves, our fears - this is how their influence on our subconscious weakens, we accept ourselves and get rid of internal negativity.

The most suitable asanas for practicing mauna yoga are: Padmasana (Lotus Pose), Siddhasana (Perfect Pose), Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose), Sukhasana (Comfortable Pose). However, if you find it difficult to stay long enough in a pose where your legs are supposed to be crossed, Savasana (Dead Man's Pose) will suit you.

Mauna - the practice of silence

Unfortunately, almost all the activities of modern society come down to communication, conversations and discussions. That is why, when they first hear about the idea of the practice of silence, it seems wild to many. Meanwhile, if you approach this issue consciously, the practice of silence, or mauna, is an extremely effective way to develop your own personal qualities and skills. Naturally, the true practice of silence is not just external actions, but it is work within oneself.

Another difficulty is that practicing mauna for a modern person, who is an integral part of society, is very difficult. If you are serious about practicing mauna, choose early in the morning between four and seven o'clock. It is at this time that we, as a rule, are not yet at work, they do not call us or write messages. In other words, try to isolate yourself from the endless stream of information and give your mind a chance to rest, as a result of which, during the working day, it will give much more answers and be able to solve the current situations as rationally and productively as possible.

mauna sadhana

The term 'sadhana' means 'regular actions'. Mauna sadhana is a regular practice of silence performed before dawn. It is at this time that a person is maximally relaxed, his mind is still free from the influence of the outside world.

The importance of mauna sadhana in the life of every person is difficult to overestimate, because its fundamental goal is the spiritual perfection of a person.

Through mauna sadhana one learns to overcome inner barriers as well as the barriers of our daily life. The energy that you receive during mauna sadhana, you must learn to direct to creation, helping others, and socially useful deeds. Otherwise, this energy will be like a destructive hurricane, since its strength is very great.

Start with daily mauna sadhana for 1.5-2 hours a day, and then try every week for a whole day to practice mauna, the results will surprise you very soon!

mauna full

To date, there are the following types of mauna:

  • Wang-mauna - control over one's own speech.
  • Kashtha-mouna - a complete renunciation of any physical actions.
  • Sushupti-mauna - silence, silence of the mind.
  • Maha-mouna - mental silence.

Full mouna practice- this is a combination of the above types of mauna, this is a kind of ideal, the best way to restore mental health and harmony. Perfect yogis are munis, those who have been able to achieve the "state of inner silence." The energy that they receive at the same time, they direct to self-development.

Complete mouna is the complete liberation of the human mind from thoughts, this is what all sages strive for.

It is best to start the process of comprehending the full mauna in the bosom of nature, for example, in the mountains, where the environment itself contributes to the unity of a person with his own inner world. Over time, a state of a certain detachment, transparency comes, while we still continue to be part of the society in which we rotate, but gradually everything that surrounds us - people and events cease to affect us, we have the ability to go through all this, leaving unnecessary outside of myself.

A person must learn to enter this state, in fact, he must learn to stay in it constantly: the mouth is closed, but the ears are “open”, we listen, and most importantly, we hear other people and ourselves first of all.

Mauna of Silence

Sushupti mauna, or mauna of silence, is the silence of the mind through the rejection of meaningless, unnecessary chatter. Mauna is a sacred silence during which a person concentrates on his own inner world. During mauna, one should stop reading newspapers, watching TV, playing computer games and other activities that connect us with the outside world and can give food for discussions, even internal ones, with ourselves.

Mauna is not just physical silence, it is the silence of our soul, during which it seeks peace in nature and merges with its own nature together.

Start with a two hour daily mauna. At first it will be difficult, but later you will feel inner concentration, peace and clarity of thought.

mouna practice

The practice of mouna is difficult only at first, you should go from simple to complex: you can start with half an hour of silence and meditation. And later on, you will come to the conclusion that the three-day mauna will become a necessity for you.

So, the practice of mauna consists of eight steps:

  • Step one: we choose the time, as already discussed earlier - this is early morning from four to seven in the morning. Next, you need to put yourself in order - you must feel physical cleanliness;
  • Step two: take a position that is comfortable for you, you can sit on a pillow or on a chair, keep your back straight. Try to breathe in such a way that you feel the movement of the air flow through your entire body. Choose loose, light clothes, best of all from natural fabrics (linen or cotton);
  • Step Three: Relax your whole body;
  • Step Four: In a relaxed state, take 10 to 15 deep breaths;
  • Step Five: Concentrate on any one object, say a familiar mantra;
  • Step Six: Now try to just surrender to your being and do nothing;
  • Step Seven: Try to visualize your entire day from start to finish. Promise yourself that no matter what happens, you will control your speech, emotions and feelings;
  • Step Eight: Calmly fold your palms in namaste and tell within yourself to all those who help you in life: your parents, your friends, all those you love.

Silence is the language of the soul

It is well known that primitive man at first expressed himself with gestures and signs. And this process is repeated throughout the history of mankind. The oldest alphabet in the world - Devanagari does not contain a single dental letter. By itself, speech does not have the power that is contained in the power of gestures. Esotericists (people with developed intuition) argue that Devanagari was the primitive language spoken by our ancestors, the Hyperboreans. Devanagari is believed to be the language of the soul, which can be remembered by regularly practicing stillness (silence). Isn't that why the Eastern sages Muni prefer to remain silent all their lives, and in the 6th century BC, one of the conditions for those who wanted to enter the famous school of the greatest Greek thinker Pythagoras to become a philosopher was the requirement - not to utter a word for 5 years (!). Pythagoras himself believed that silence is the highest state of mind compared to speech. When people took a vow of silence, they did not contradict the surrounding world in any way, on the contrary, they immersed themselves in it. From such voluntary loneliness peace and harmony come to the soul.

In the East, it is argued that initially people did not use speech, only direct vision of self-evident perception, through the senses (nothing was replaced by dead concepts). Despite the fact that there was no language, all people understood each other through the vision of a common reality and synchronous activity in it (personal experience).

No wonder many Saints tried not to speak, but to remain silent. So, for example, Saint Benois punished the monks who observed the silence of speech, "if necessary, express yourself only with gestures."

The development of empty speech has replaced real things and the experience of direct vision, awareness of reality. People gradually lost true knowledge, entangled in concepts and terms.
E soteriki are sure that initially everyone lived on the basis of inner knowledge. All living beings spoke the same language, the language of the soul, silence, understanding each other at a glance; before there were no scriptures, there were no books; all scriptures were written later. People didn't have to be told, "Don't eat this, don't eat that. This is good, this is bad, ”people were aware of all this, since they had a developed right-sided hemisphere, which is responsible for the database of higher consciousness. Initially, the soul directly received the knowledge that was given by the God-Absolute, penetrating the entire Universe. Previously, a person did not need to think. People did not think, did not doubt, they knew what was right and what was wrong. The connection with conscience and intuition was perfect. But ever since a person went the way of developing the left hemisphere, the connection with intuition has become dull, the right hemisphere has ceased to function fully. The invention of different languages is a consequence of the degradation of mankind, the cause of the split of people. This truth is hidden in the biblical story of Babylon.
D The most ancient pyramids, dolmens, statues of Easter Island, as well as numerous archaeological finds, point to the fact that 200 million years ago humanity was at a much higher spiritual level, which made it possible to build huge and complex structures in unity, in silence.
Breath is life. Speaking is a process of impaired breathing leading to premature death. Constant silence and communication at the level of gestures allowed our ancestors to live in harmony with the outside world, as well as save a huge supply of internal energy. Therefore, our ancestors Humans lived much longer than us, as is said in all the Holy Scriptures of the world.

AT 1750 Jean-Jacques Rousseau convincingly proved that the development of the mind, speech, the progress of technical sciences and arts, brought people incalculable harm and thanks to this heretical thinking gained fame. "Our souls have been corrupted as the sciences and arts have improved." The main trouble of the current civilization is the development of thinking and speech and the lack of understanding at the level of the heart, the level of the soul. Each of us hardly understands another person, hardly feels someone else's grief, as a result, many live in chaos. People do not feel each other's pain, so they have to express, complain about it to others. But at the same time, most of us remain immune to other people's grief and suffering.

An active, constant process of thinking and a passion for conversations, artificial inventions - this is a disease of modern people who have lost their peace, their natural being. It should be noted that all the greatest discoveries of our civilization were made not in the process of stormy thinking and discussion, but in silence, in a dream, in insight, as if scientists were remembering the long-forgotten old. So Dmitri Mendeleev had a dream about the periodic table of elements; chemist Friedrich Kekule realized in a dream the cyclic structure of the benzene molecule, Niels Bohr - the structure of the atom, and Albert Einstein, according to contemporaries, made his many discoveries in a state of silent mind, relaxing in the bath.

Esotericists argue that initially a person was given all the knowledge necessary for life, just like animals that do not know diseases and medicines now have them. And each person can remember everything that he needs for life. But for this it is necessary to develop the right-sided hemisphere, more often staying in silence, a state of silence of speech and thoughts.

What led to the development of oral speech?

Loss of presence in the present moment.

The development of speech has led to the loss of the present moment “Here and Now”, which implies listening to intuition, mindfulness of oneself and caring attitude towards others in the present.
The emergence of irresponsibility.

A person mainly uses speech to shift responsibility for their problems from themselves to the shoulders of others. Think about how many times you use speech every day to ask others to do something for you, instead of silently completing an easy task for you.

Sabotage."The word is silver - silence is golden." It has long been known that words can hurt more than an evil deed. A word can offend, frighten, inspire. With the development of oral speech, people began to use mainly swear words, leading to the complete degradation of the mind. Scientists have proven that swear words destroy chromosomes. With a change in the nucleus, the quality of the cell of the human body changes. Hence physical and mental illnesses.

A sharp sword hurts deeply, but much deeper is an evil speech.”. (Buechler)

A distortion of reality. Each person lives in his own world. Based on the attitude towards ourselves and the surrounding space, we build the reality in which we live. Silence allows you to preserve the purity of reality, because when a person exaggerates, is cunning, says something that he does not know or has not verified, he can cause serious harm to himself and others.
Waste of time

Many people began to suffer from the disease: “I think one thing, I say another, I do another.” A lot of time is wasted on remembering the past (gossip, disputes, evaluation, judgments of past events). A lot of time is wasted talking about the future (promises, plans, hopes). “Throughout my life I have become convinced that talking with friends most and most inconspicuously takes away time; friends are the great robbers of time...”(F. Petrarch)

People are accustomed to wasting time talking, have become such lovers of idle talk that when they are alone in the house, they like to go out just to find someone to talk to. And when they have no one to talk to, they talk to themselves, to the objects around them. If I could explain to them how much they lose energy with every word they say.

What is the benefit of practicing silence?

Life Extension

In ancient scriptures, breathing is called "Prana" - life. Breath is the chain that connects the body, heart and soul together. Speaking is a violation of the breath. When a person speaks, he takes many more breaths than he would otherwise have to. Accordingly, the duration of a person's life depends on the frequency of his breathing. By talking we take a lot from our lives. A day of silence means a week or more of life extension, and a day of conversation means a week less life. There have been mystics in India since ancient times who never spoke, although they did all kinds of other things. These mystics lived much longer than we live now: three hundred, five hundred years or more.

Restoration of mental health and harmony with the outside world

H a person who keeps silence gains peace, strength and happiness. In silence there is wisdom, freedom, balance, joy and well-being. Silence allows you to remain in harmony with the outside world.

Any censure, judgment of someone can cause the destruction of this harmony. But any judgment generates a response from others, so the ancients argued: “Do not evaluate, do not judge others, and you will not be judged, for by the degree you evaluate others, you will be evaluated the same.”

When a person is silent, he makes fewer mistakes, because the more you speak, the more likely it is to make mistakes. A silent person attracts enemies less. They are often just waiting for some word to cling to a person.

"Brevity is the soul of wit". Silence helps to avoid verbal garbage, unnecessary words. It is better to remain silent than to say something stupid that you will later regret for a long time. “Silence is an argument that is almost impossible to refute.”(Böll)
Energy storage

All living things come out of silence and return to silence. And God-Absolute is always at the same time

stays in a state of peace and quiet, like an eternal observer. And a person is able to realize the Creator, become one with Him only in silence, which allows one to accumulate higher energies – awareness, vigilance, attentiveness, responsibility, calmness.

"Most human interaction comes down to the exchange of words, the objects of the thought realm. It is vital that at least a little silence and calmness be brought into close relationships. No relationship can flourish without the sense of space that comes with silence. Meditate together or together in spend time in silence in nature.Whether walking, sitting in a car, or staying at home, make your silent being together calm and comfortable.Silence does not need or require to be created.Just be receptive to the silence that is already there, for usually it sometimes obscured by mental noise."(Eckhart Tolle)

Saving an inferior experience

Every word without action is worthless and empty.” (Demosthenes)

Silence allows you to keep your inner secrets, that which concerns only yourself. In fact, each person must learn to keep the inferior experience he receives. This allows you to protect others from delusions, harmful actions, false ways of thinking, development. A person has the right to share any information with other people only when he is absolutely sure of the correctness of the experience gained and has repeatedly verified it.

The mass media (newspapers, magazines, televisions) mainly transmit inferior experiences that lead people to the wrong way of thinking. The same thing happens in the field of orthodox science and medicine. How can a doctor give advice to a patient when he himself does not know how to cure himself?

What is difficult? - Know yourself. What is easy? - Giving advice to others. (Thales)

If a person talks a lot about his sins, he gradually changes for the better, but if a person talks about achievements and benefits, nothing will remain of them.

How to keep silence?

R It is useful for working people to practice silence daily, for some time, and for longer periods on weekends. Your friends and family members should not disturb you during this time. They will know that during a certain period you keep silence. Find yourself a secluded place where no one will disturb you. The energy of speech should be sublimated into spiritual energy and used for meditation. Only then will you enjoy silence and inner spiritual strength. During the period of silence, you should not read newspapers, write long texts and express thoughts with hand signs. You shouldn't laugh at this time either. All this breaks the silence. Learn to enjoy inner peace! Feel how you benefit greatly from keeping silence, become more calm, filled with inner strength and joy. Only then will you enjoy keeping silence.Forced silence will be an imitation - coercion makes restless and gloomy. Forced silence is a battle with the mind. This is an effort. The need for silence must come from within, naturally. When you stick to sincerity, silence will come by itself. Only then comes absolute peace and tranquility.

Speech disciplinein everyday life.As a preparation for silence, it is useful to discipline speech.Try to weigh the words. Strictly avoid long and unnecessary conversations, all kinds of vain discussions and disputes. Move away from this kind of society as far as possible. Watch every word - that is the greatest discipline. Words are powerful - use them carefully. Don't let the tongue rebel. Control the words before they pass through your lips.Speak little, learn to be silent. Loud words cause exhaustion of the tongue. Use simple words and save energy. Devote more and more of your time to inner peace, meditation and contemplation.Clear your mind and meditate. Be steadfast and know that God is present in you. Subdue boiling thoughts and agitated emotions. Immerse yourself in the innermost corners of your heart and rejoice in the magnanimous silence.

The soul does not speak in words. The great mystery, the language of the soul, is silence. Any affirmation is truly stupid, for it is always opposed by negation.

There is no wiser silence. The one who spoke about the beauty of one - caught everyone in ugliness, and who glorified wisdom in name and form, he limited the infinite to stupidity. The wise one does not say yes, for things are comprehended by changes within their space-ego (by expanding the boundaries of oneself). Silence is the Supreme Truth, silence is the language of the Universe. The practice of silence leads to the realization of the true Self, merging with the Absolute and dissolving in Eternity….

Perhaps, it may seem strange to someone - to write about silence at a time when the world around us insistently requires communication: business, friendly, creative, domestic, after all. Most people are interested in how to communicate more effectively, not how to be more effectively silent. And in vain. For the practice of silence is exactly what can, paradoxically, give our lives a completely different sound.

Silence as a spiritual practice has existed since time immemorial - in the religions of India, in Buddhism, Christianity (smart doing). In its extreme, ascetic form, of course, it has always been the lot of monks - these are vows of silence, and leaving for a long time somewhere in the mountains or in the forest to fast and pray alone.

Of course, what is needed here is not just an external renunciation of speech, but silence of the mind - in India, those who were able to do this are called "munis", that is, "those who have reached the state of inner silence", perfect yogis. It is believed that conversations, especially unnecessary ones, take a lot of energy that could be used for higher purposes - for example, for contemplation, meditation, merging with being. The more words, the more unstable and chaotic the mind (and vice versa), and behind this whirlpool of thoughts we do not really hear either the world around us, or other people, or ourselves.

Only now, by force of will, we cannot stop this mental flow, but to start from the other end - to stop talking for a while - is very possible, even though at first it is not easy.

Silence saves energy, helps to control emotions, leads to inner peace and clarity of mind. Plus, silence literally heals. It helps with neuropsychiatric diseases, hypertension, headaches, vegetovascular dystonia, magically calms the brain and nerves. It is not for nothing that people do not want to talk when they are sick.

So, we can say that silence practice It is a means to achieve a state of true inner silence. Practices that eliminate inner chatter have always been especially loved by yogis. The benefits of silence are talked about in yoga seminars and retreats; in almost all Indian ashrams, if not complete silence, then at least refraining from unnecessary words is one of the conditions for staying on the territory.

However, we are not in India. But everyone has a chance to plunge into silence. For example, you can go to a Vipassana retreat (they are held in many countries, including Russia). There you can keep silent to the fullest, because you will need to remain silent for 10 days in a row. For some, this, alas, is an unaffordable luxury, and one has to be silent, so to speak, without leaving the machine. It's not easy, but it's possible.

To be silent enough in a big city, you need:

1) Stay at home alone- the task itself is not an easy one. What to do with household members who do not always share our interests? And if they do, practice shows that even if two people (meaning beginners) both decide to keep quiet, old habits, as a rule, will still prevail. What can we say about children, especially small ones, - it is clear that it is unrealistic to make them silent all day or at least not contact you with questions. In this regard, a fertile time is summer, when you can send everyone to the country. However, at any time of the year, you can contrive and ask them to go on a visit for the whole day, to relatives, to nature, to a movie cafe ... And then - cheers! The main condition is met.

2) On this day, it is better not to leave the house at all.: you will definitely find yourself in a situation where you will be forced to answer some question - what time is it or how to get somewhere. Worst of all - your own entrance, in which you will certainly run into a neighbor with whom you need to say hello, or with old women on a bench, from whom you will not leave alive if you do not chat.

3) After getting rid of the need to communicate live, the next step is eliminate the possibility of telephone communication- put an answering machine or completely turn off all phones.

4) Do not let any words into your life from outside, that is, all media, the Internet, newspapers, magazines, movies, cartoons, TV and radio.

5) Having protected yourself from the possibility of any human communication, do not forget about animals, which are no less a threat - how, for example, not to communicate with an incredibly cozy ginger cat (you can’t even say “kit-kit”)? And the faithful dog that follows you around everywhere? Most likely, you won’t send them to visit, so you’ll have to be patient ...

6) Exclude virtual communication and correspondence. In principle, today there are a lot of people, especially freelancers, who are sitting at home, communicating exclusively by “soap”, “ICQ”, via SMS, etc. And although, perhaps, they have not uttered a word for the whole day, they do not keep silence at all - they communicate, after all, even if they are written, not spoken words.

7) And finally, when there is no one physically to talk to - don't talk to yourself! A huge number of people speak their thoughts out loud, and this is not at all a sign of insanity, but simply a habit. And you can get rid of it.

8) However the most difficult thing is not to talk about yourself, not to conduct that same notorious “internal dialogue”, that is, to get rid (or at least try to get rid of) of the constant chatter in the head. It happens, at first it seems that it is very easy - just think, be silent for a couple of days! Finally, to drive out all the annoying household members and enjoy the silence is a dream! I don’t feel like talking on the phone or watching TV ... And then ... Thoughts begin to overcome with terrible force - deprived of the opportunity to translate into words, they literally put pressure on the brain, and for the most part some kind of nonsense comes into my head. Most likely, she was always there, before we simply did not notice her. Here you understand how much there, inside, any "trash". The main thing is not to give up (in this case, not to untie your tongue), continue the practice, and then it will become easier.

And what happens next? Nothing special. A certain detachment just comes, as if transparency - events, phenomena and people seem to pass through us without affecting us. There is an ability to keep your mouth closed and your ears open, to really listen and hear other people, to listen to the world and to yourself.

If you remain silent long enough, then there comes a moment when you no longer feel like talking - but why? And it is already physically difficult - just as difficult as it was at the very beginning to silence yourself.

And then the melody of life becomes heard, so dear and at the same time unfamiliar: although it always accompanied you, it was not possible to hear it before, it was only a background against which events took place. Now you understand that our life is similar to the surface of the earth - what we know well and measure in square meters, hundreds or even hectares, has thousands of kilometers of mystery in depth.

Silence is even better music . It fills you and everything around. You dissolve in it, swim in it, you are a part of it. Silence is a pleasure, at such moments you want to hold your breath and listen to the extraterrestrial music of the silence of the heavenly spheres.
