Good day, dear readers of my blog. It would seem, what is it worth to draw a straight line in Photoshop? Clamped Shift and here you are, please. However, this can be done in three ways. The result of each will be different.

In this article, you will learn three ways to draw a straight line in Photoshop. What filter to apply to create a wave. How to do it with another interesting tool. I'll show you how to achieve a dotted line and draw at a certain angle.

Lots of information awaits you. Shall we start?

Line Tool

First, I will show you how to use a tool that is designed to create straight lines. In this place you can have a rectangle, oval, ellipse or polygon. Just hold down the left mouse button on the button for a few seconds to open a menu with additional tools.

First about the important. One of the most important parameters is thickness. Thanks to the line, you can even draw rectangles. You just need to make it fatter.

Next comes Fill and Stroke. Click on the plate with the color to the left of the inscriptions and select the shade. If you want to make a stroke, enter its width. Now, my screenshot shows the option without it. The no color icon looks exactly like this. Gray line crossed out in red.

You can see the settings and the result in this screenshot. It's not very visible, but the thickness here is 30 pixels. In a large picture, 30 pixels may look like a modest stripe. Everything needs to be adjusted to your own dimensions.

This is what the line will look like if you choose red for the stroke.

The next button will allow you to make a dashed stroke.

If you reduce the thickness and remove the fill, you will get just a dotted line.

Here you can also align the stroke to the inside, outside, or center of your path.

And round the corners. True, it will not be so noticeable.

If you press Shift while you're drawing a line, Photoshop will automatically create a straight line. Horizontal or vertical. Depending on where you're taking her.

If you need a line at a certain angle, then the easiest way is to see what the information window shows and correct it manually, directing it in a certain direction.

Well, now I'll show you another one.

Brush tool

I drew these rectangles using lines drawn with a brush.

Choose the type and size that suits the brush line.

Put a dot at the expected beginning of the line, hold down Shift and left-click where the strip should end.

There are two lines in front of you. The yellow one was drawn with the Line tool, the purple one with a brush.

How to make a wave

No matter what tool you use, the easiest way to make a wavy line is with a filter. Go to this category, find "Distortion" and select "Wave".

Based on the preview image, you will quickly understand what's what and how to set it up. The amplitude should be about the same. If it doesn't work, you can just click on "Randomize" until the right one appears.

There is always quick access to the last applied filter. I apply it to the layer with the yellow stripe drawn with the tool.

Here is the result I got. As you can see, it is different.

Pen Tool

To be honest, I still can't use a pen professionally. I know that they can draw anything: smoothly, quickly, fun and cool, but it takes me a lot of time and the result is not always at the level I expected. Nevertheless, I can even draw straight lines with a pen. Curves are worse, but I'll try. I choose "Pen".

I put a dot, then another. Until I release the mouse button, I adjust the smoothness.

I do the same with each new point.

After all the manipulations are completed, I press the right mouse button and select "Stroke the contour" in the menu that appears.

You can select several tools: pencil, brush, stamp, pattern, and so on. Now let this one be a brush.

Right-click again and select Delete Outline.

Here is the result I got.

Well, do not forget that you can always use the skills of creating collages. Read the article about how to take a line from any picture and paste it into your image.

Parallel lines and a grid are elements that bring order and rigid structure to a design solution. Lines give direction to the glance that flickers over the picture, emphasize surfaces, giving volume to the image. Light shading instead of filling creates the effect of weightlessness, airiness of the object.

Parallel lines, a grid of rectangular cells, a lattice are easier to create in vector graphics programs such as Adobe Illustrator, for example. You can download a suitable texture or ready-made clipart.

But there is not always time to look for the right textures. Drawing a straight line is easy - draw with any drawing tool while holding down the Shift key. It is difficult to draw multiple lines at the same distance from each other to create a grid, for example. But solving the problem of creating parallel lines in Photoshop is not at all difficult.

1 way.

The fastest way to create parallel lines is to use styles.

Draw a straight line with the Pensil tool (to make the line straight, hold down the Shift key).

Photoshop's built-in styles include Dotted Strokes (dash-dot strokes). Select these styles using the palette menu Styles (Styles): Window (Window)> Styles (Styles).

Among the style sets, choose White 1pt 2pt-Spaced Dotted No Fill or another style if you prefer.

We get a line of dots.

This line must be stretched in width and obtained from the points of the strip. But if you do that right now, you'll end up with a rectangle with a dotted stroke. Apply a simple trick: create a new empty layer above the layer with a line of dots and merge these two layers (select these layers in the layers panel and execute the command Merge (Merge)).

After that, just stretch the line in width with the command Edit (Editing)\u003e Transform (Transformation).

If you create a new layer above the layer with lines, fill this layer with a gradient fill and apply the menu command from the layers panel Create Clipping Mask to it, you will get such a rainbow stripe.

And the use of the command Edit (Editing)\u003e Transform (Transformation)\u003e Warp (Deformation), allows you to get interesting effects.

2 way.

Parallel lines can be created using gradients. The disadvantage of this method is significant - you must first create a gradient using the gradient editor. If you do not know anything about working with the gradient editor - you are here:

The advantage of this method is that, firstly, you can create a striped gradient, save it and use it forever, secondly, you can create multi-colored gradients, gradients with blurry or clear transitions from the line color to the background, you can create double, triple lines with varying spacing between them. Or download ready-made or

Creating a gradient to draw parallel lines is easy. Open the gradient editor and add color markers in the right positions (just click the mouse in the right places, set the color and distance in the appropriate fields.). The Location field sets the marker offset in % from the left edge, the distance between markers is the distance between lines.

The small markers next to the color marker determine how blurry the line is. Try moving them closer to the line and see the result.

The handles above the gradient bar determine the transparency of the gradient areas. White markers indicate transparent areas (Opacity (Opacity) is equal to 0). This gradient is handy for drawing on a pre-made background:

An example of using this gradient:

And do not forget that gradients are different - diamond-shaped, radial, mirror, which allows you to create different shapes with one easy movement:

3 way.

First, draw one line in a new layer.

Go to the palette Actions (Operations), create a new operation (Line, for example), press the record button and follow simple steps: copy the layer with the line and move it up or down to the desired distance. Job done, click the Stop Recording button. It should turn out something like this:

After that, press the triangular button Play recording as many times as you need lines.

As a result, many layers with lines appear in the image. If you are satisfied with the result, merge the layers with lines into one layer.

Overlaying a duplicate layer with lines and then rotating this duplicate at a right or any other angle makes it easy to get a grid.

And applying styles - effects:

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create beautiful abstract lines that will come in handy in the design of your work. This tutorial is perfect for beginners.

This is what the final result looks like:

Step 1. Create a new document 800x800 px in size, fill the background with black. Create a new layer above the background, press the P key to activate pen tool(Feather). Create a line like in the screenshot below:

If you can't draw a curve, no big deal. To do this, hold down the ALT key and drag the end of the curve to edit its shape:

Press B to activate brush tool(Brush), select a 1 px brush:

In the window color picker(Color selection) select the desired color:

Activate again pen tool(Pen) (P), then right-click on the created curve and select Stroke Path(outline stroke):

Choose Brush(Brush) from the drop down menu, make sure the option is Simulate Pressure(Simulate pressure) is active, and click OK:

And we get such a beautiful curve:

Step 2 Using the process described above, we create three more lines. Make sure that:
- each line is on a separate layer;
- for the first line, the brush size is 2 px, the second - 3 px, the third - 4 px;
- reduce the opacity of the layers to 80%, 60% and 40%.

We correct the location of the lines and get the following result (4 lines on 4 layers):

Step 3 Create a group "Lines" Layer - New - Group(Layer - New - Group) and move all 4 layers with lines into it. Duplicate the group once and merge the copy of the group into one layer (CTRL+E). Reduce the opacity (opacity) of the new layer to 70% and move the lines below and to the left to create a depth effect:

We continue to duplicate the layer to create more lines:

Now we need to color the lines a bit. To do this, use an adjustment layer. Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Hue/Saturation(Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Hue / Saturation) for layers with lines (do not forget to create a clipping mask for the adjustment layer CTRL + ALT + G).

Choose any color you like:

We continue to add more colors. You can use Free Transform(Free Transform) (CTRL+T) to adjust the angle of the lines:

We also adjust the size of the lines:

Step 4 Now let's add some gray lines. For this, we pass Image - Adjustments - Desaturate(Image - Adjustment - Desaturate) or SHIFT+CTRL+U to desaturate one of the layers:

By blending the gray lines together with the rest:

And we get the following result:

Step 5 Almost finished. Now merge the layers with the lines that we created into one (CTRL + E), then duplicate them, rotate, change position:

Let's add abstract dots around the lines to diversify the work. To do this, set up the brush as shown below (press F5 to bring up the brush options window).

Hello dear readers! In this tutorial you will learn how to draw a line in Photoshop.
Create a new document in Photoshop (Ctrl + N) with a white background.

The easiest tool for drawing straight lines is the Line Tool (U). In addition to the standard modes of vector tools on the top panel there is a parameter Thickness (Width). He is responsible for the thickness of the line.
To create a line, drag the mouse to the side while holding the left button. If you hold down the Shift key, you can get a horizontal or vertical line. If you drag a line in a slanted direction while holding Shift, it will be slanted at a 45 degree angle.
This is how straight vector lines are drawn.

You can also use the Brush Tool (B) to draw lines. Select it, right click on the canvas and set the Size to 1 px so the lines are thin. As in the first case, you need to hold down the Shift key to draw straight lines.
You can also draw lines by points. Make a single click on the canvas at the starting point. Hold down the Shift key and click on the next point (where the end of the line should be), then another one if you want to create a polyline.

But what if you need to draw a wavy line? To do this, you can use a combination of tools Pen (Pen Tool) (P) and Brush (Brush Tool) (B). Photoshop has a stroke function.
Select a tool Pen (Pen Tool) (P) and in the settings select the Paths mode:

Lines are drawn with this tool using single clicks. Draw a simple line in two clicks.

Hover over the line and a "+" sign will appear next to it.

Pull the line down and it will curve. Another anchor point will appear on the line. Tool Arrow (Direct Selection Tool) (A) you can change the curvature of the lines using the levers. To quickly switch to this tool, press the Ctrl key with the active tool Pen (Pen Tool) (P).

Now you need to select the brush with which the outline will be circled. Select a tool Brush (Brush Tool) (B), set the size to 2 pixels and lower the hardness to 0%.

Select the Pen Tool (P) again, right-click on the canvas and select Stroke Path.

In the window that appears, select Brush (Brush). If you turn on the function Simulate pressure (Simulate Pressure), then the edges of the line will be narrowed.

Press Enter to remove the outline.

Stroke could have been done in a faster way. After adjusting the brush, do not switch to Pen (Pen Tool) (P), but press Enter to stroke. Pressing this key multiple times will repeat the stroke. To remove the outline, press Delete.

This concludes the lesson. Now you know how to draw a line in Photoshop.

How to draw a straight line in Photoshop?

It is not difficult to draw a straight line in Photoshop.

You can simply hold down the Shift key while picking up a pencil or brush. Then the line will be flat with a fixed point.

Or with a rectangular area if you want a thicker line.

You put a point with a pencil without pressing Shift, then you press Shift and put the second point. A straight line will appear between these two points.

I recently needed to do this, I didn’t find the function, but I guessed to hold down the Shift key and just draw with a pencil (or brush). A straight line is drawn, but only either strictly horizontally or vertically (no oblique). Although, in principle, if you need to obliquely, you can rotate the line.

PS. I'm still in Photoshop at an amateur level, so maybe there are some special tools for drawing a straight line that I'm not aware of.

To draw a line, in Photoshop, from the very top, select a tool called Rectangular Marquee and draw her a line of the desired thickness and length. Next, it needs to be painted over with tools like, Gradientquot ;, Pencil or Fill...

Hot key U there will be a line at the top of the toolbar.

Choose a brush, color, put a point where you want to start the line, then press Shift and without releasing put a point where you want to end the line.

2 days before entering the program, refrain from drinking alcohol and intoxicants

    • Select the brush tool.
    • We set it up in such a way that any dynamics of shape and size would be turned off.
    • hold down the shift and draw up / down or left / right, depending on where you want to draw a line. If you draw in a new layer, then you can then rotate it to the desired angle with the transformation tool - ctrl + T
  • In order to draw a straight line in Photoshop, we just need to use the pencil in this program to press the left click and without releasing press the button Shift (Shift). After that, we direct the mouse in the direction we need and we get a straight line.

    There is nothing difficult here)

I wish you good luck in drawing in Photoshop.

As I remember, you can draw a straight line in Photoshop if you press and hold the Shift key and at the same time select a brush or pencil then draw your straight line, but you can not draw either vertically or horizontally ..

For example, when I need to draw a straight line in Photoshop, I just take a pencil or brush in the program, then put a point in the required place and, without releasing, press shift and I lead my line in the necessary direction.

  • How to draw a line in Photoshop

If you take the Rectangular Marquee Tool, you can easily make a thin horizontal selection in the form of a line, which can be filled with some color (Edit -> Fill...).

There are quite a lot of different questions on Photoshop on BV. For example:

    • How to whiten teeth in Photoshop?
  • Drawing a straight line in Adobe Photoshop is not difficult at all. First you need to select a brush or pencil (if you need a thin line, then a pencil is better, if a thick one with a feathered border, then select the appropriate brush), set the desired thickness and color. And then, holding down the Shift key, draw a line. It will be perfectly flat.
