Drawing on the autumn theme. How to draw autumn with a pencil step by step

30.04.2019

I have long been fascinated by the Bob Ross school of painting. He created a quick technique for spectacular oil painting on canvas. And I think that everyone can easily master it. Only, for starters, we will use not oil, but artistic gouache. And instead of canvas, paper for watercolors. A-3 is best, but A-4 is fine too.

We will perform the work in stages. We draw with a dry brush, using only gouache.
We pick up blue paint with a brush (15-16 size, bristles, flat or round) and begin to cover the upper part of the sheet with it. We work from left to right, moving from top to bottom. As we move, the paint on the brush will be less and the color of our future sky will be all less saturated. In the center of the sheet, leave two unpainted places. These will be clouds.

Now we need a paint darker by a tone or a slightly different tone. I added purple to my blue. Draw the horizon line with the resulting color and cover the sheet down from it, leaving a white spot in the center. This is our future lake. Do not forget that the brush should be dry .After there is no paint left on the brush, we shade the horizon line so that the border becomes with a smooth transition. We also pass the brush along the lake. Do not forget that we are working from left to right.

Now an interesting point for beginner artists.Mountains are often painted with a palette knife. Not everyone has one, so we will use a kitchen knife. We draw mountains. For this we need black and blue paint. To get it, take a little bit of black and add it on the tip of the knife we collect paints and try to draw mountains. They will consist of the highest peak in the center and lower ones at the edges. We draw with the entire flat surface of the knife. Let's try to draw gentle slopes for our mountains.

Our mountains should dry out a little. Therefore, for now, let's take care of the clouds in the sky. Ideally, first draw the clouds, and then start drawing the mountains. But, as always, there is not enough time, so I make it faster and more practical for myself ... So, clouds. We will have them gently pink. To do this, mix a drop of red gouache with white. With the resulting color, we begin to draw clouds in place of white spots in the sky. I use bristle number 12. I work with the tip of the brush, poking. degrees to the clouds. For children, I explain this method as "drip-drip-drip". Not strokes, namely point touches with a paper brush. Often-often-often. Now we need to draw the upper border of the clouds. It will be white. Type on a brush white paint and drip-drip-drip along the upper border of the cloud, climbing onto the blue color. Let's imagine that the cloud is not one, but a group. Another cloud floats under the top. Let's draw white and its upper border. There should be a lot of white paint on the brush so that it stands out well against the background of roses new. In this way, we draw the clouds to the left and right of the mountains .... Well, while we were drawing the clouds, our mountains dried up a little. Now it’s no less interesting. We need to make them more voluminous. it on the right half of the mountains. We will have it more illuminated. We will work from the middle of the mountain to the right edge. The paint will not lay down evenly, slightly mixed with a black background, but we need it. halves of the mountains, which will be located below the main peak, i.e. closer to you.

Now let's mix white paint with blue, we need a light blue color (not blue, darker). With a thin brush (pony, squirrel, speakers, synthetics-3 sizes), apply the resulting shade to the left side of the mountains. From the top along the slope, from the center to the left edge. You see how our mountains immediately changed, how voluminous they became.

We continue ... Again, with dry bristles, the one that painted the sky (we didn’t wash it after the sky) with the help of black paint we “paint” the spots on the left, right and in the center (below the mountains). We take the paints quite a bit, so that the spots it turned out black, translucent. (which we haven't drawn yet) in the lake.

Let's move on to more cheerful tones. We will draw autumn foliage. For this we need yellow, red, red gouache and a size 12-13 bristle brush. Let's start with yellow gouache. would be islands. Just like in the clouds, let's go through the tops of the trees with yellow paint.

With brown paint and a thin brush (squirrel, pony, columns - 1-2 sizes) we draw tree trunks in the foreground. The trunks on the left side of the work are illuminated, so we select the illuminated sections of the trunk with white paint.

Let's draw foliage for these trees with yellow and red paints. Below the mountains, in place of black spots, draw bushes. Tip: To make the foliage more realistic, dip the brush first in red, then in yellow paint and, without mixing them, we begin to draw the foliage: again drip-cap -cap. It is very convenient to draw foliage on bushes and trees with a fan brush.

So that we can see the perspective well, let's draw a birch in the near background. Since it is closer to us, it looks larger relative to other trees. First, a black trunk with branches, then with a knife we apply white paint to the trunk. And finish the birch by painting it yellow foliage. You can revive the picture with red paint, painting the leaves with it in some places.

In this lesson we will look at how to beautifully draw a golden autumn, an autumn landscape with gouache in stages. You will get a very nice result.

This composition uses the frontal perspective rules described in this article. First, on a piece of paper, you need to draw a background. For him, I used white, blue and black paint. You can add other shades, a little pink, pale green. Shades should be pale, just stand out a little against the background.

For a distant array of park trees, we need a hard brush and a palette. On the palette you need to mix blue, white and quite a bit of black paint. I mixed several options - one I made more gray, the other with blue, and the third I added a little ocher.

With the help of a hard brush, I painted trees without detailing.

Now, remembering the frontal perspective, let's draw the alley itself, going into the distance. On plots of land on we draw trees growing along the road. Notice that the tree trunks that are farther away are higher on the paper, thinner and less saturated. I painted the trunks by mixing blue, white and black paint. The trees in front should be brighter.

To draw the foliage, we will use the same hard brush that was used to paint the distant trees. The paint should be taken on an almost dry brush and tried first on another paper.

Let's draw on all the trees the foliage that has not yet had time to crumble.

Then with orange, red and brown paint we emphasize the volume of foliage. On the road we will pour fallen leaves. It remains for us to draw lawns with yellow grass and fallen leaves. With the same hard brush, we will apply strokes of yellow and orange paint on the road, meaning the leaves that have fallen from the trees in the park.

This is the first lesson in the cycle about the seasons. I'll tell you how to draw autumn with a pencil step by step. At first, I could not understand for a long time: what should be depicted in the autumn drawing ?? What immediately comes to mind? That's right: an alley with benches, and it's all orange and yellow, and the breeze is blowing, but it's warm outside, and there's still a piece of sky in the corner. And it can also be a forest, there are different little animals:, gophers,. Less often a person imagines a rainy autumn. It's getting closer to winter. But how do I draw autumn simple pencils? After all, this is the whole point, to show how they change color and fall off, flocks of migratory birds fly away, even wandering along the edges of the fields. Maybe there is a talented artist who can convey all this with the help of a play of light and shadow with a simple pencil. And I decided to decorate my drawing! But first, as usual, there will be a step-by-step instruction. Grab your pencils and let's get down to business.

How to draw autumn with a pencil step by step

Step one. We draw a sketch. The matchstick man sits on a stump. Near it, circles denote the body of the squirrel. In the background, draw the shape of the trees and the bridge. I think there will be no difficulties with this, all children can draw such scribbles. But let's move on!
Step two. Now let's outline the contours of the girl's body, and her hairstyles. Let's add a hat. A squirrel sits next to it. Let's also outline the contours of her fluffy fur.
Step three. Now let's move on to the details. Let's mark the place where the girl's eyes and lips are located, draw her fingers. Then a few more details of the dress. Next to her draw another bag with apples. And we will give one more apple to the squirrel, she deserves it. In the background, draw a path and a bridge across the river. And then draw the trunks and crowns of trees.
Step four. Erase the auxiliary lines drawn in the previous steps. Let's outline the contours of the main objects more clearly.
Step five. It remains to add a couple of little things. Let's draw the girl's hair, eyes and mouth. We detail the dress and shoes. We imitate leaves on the trees (I didn’t draw in detail, you can do it yourself if you want). Grass is depicted simply with strokes. We will do the same strokes, only less often on tree trunks and stumps, this will create a realistic effect. Don't forget the squirrel too! And it should look like this:
Step six. Now let's move on to coloring. I drew everything in Photoshop, so I painted it there. I filmed the whole process. Those who know how to use graphic editors can also decorate. I hope I have explained in sufficient detail how to draw autumn, and now in the art lessons you can surprise everyone with an original drawing! I got this picture of autumn: And what is yours? Post your work in the comments below. Try to go through these lessons as well.

When summer ends, the leaves on the trees turn yellow and begin to fall off, a logical question arises before novice artists - how to draw an autumn landscape? My new instruction will help you create a harmonious composition and choose colors. You will learn how to beautifully and easily draw a drawing of an autumn landscape by the water with a pencil and paints.

Step 1

In order to draw an autumn landscape in stages, you will need a rough sketch of your future painting. First, outline the horizon line, silhouettes of trees in the distance, the sun, outline the foreground. For me it will be a tree, a piece of the shore and reeds. So our pencil-drawn picture of the autumn landscape is ready.

Step 2

It's time to move on to color. You can use gouache, watercolor, acrylic or oil paints. Pastel or colored pencils are also suitable. It all depends on your personal preferences.

First, let's see how you can draw an autumn landscape with gouache or watercolor. Fill in the sun with a rich yellow and the sky with a gradient of blues and blues. Near the sun it will be lighter, closer to the river - darker.

Step 3

In order to understand how to draw an autumn landscape for beginners in stages, you need to divide your work into several sections. Now let's pay attention to the trees in the distance. Paint over them with a rich orange or brown color, draw the tree trunks, and make the leaves lighter and richer red. So you can create the illusion of a golden autumn forest in the light of the setting sun.

Step 4

Now pay attention to the reflection of the trees in the water. Make the highlights horizontal, use the same colors as for the trees, just darken them a little with water colors. Then outline the silhouette of the tree in the foreground using black or dark brown gouache.

On a note: My detailed instructions will help to draw a natural autumn landscape even for a child in grades 2, 3 or 4.

Step 5

Work on the foreground. To make the image three-dimensional, use a variety of shades to draw the reeds.

Step 6

Add bright variegated leaves to the tree. Do not be afraid of saturated colors, because this object is the center of our composition. Set the direction of the river flow with white strokes.

I dare not tell my story, how I painted the autumn landscape in watercolor, a master class ... In my opinion, a master class is when you already masterfully draw some kind of plot, have a clear action plan and have the right to teach others about it.

I paint an autumn forest in the open air very rarely, it’s good if it’s one or two studies a year, so every time it’s the same search for me as it is for a novice watercolorist.

However, the last etude turned out to be quite successful, on my Instagram it was a success, and I promised that I would show the stages of writing this sketch. I'm keeping my promise.

Marina Trushnikova "Autumn Forest", watercolor, 22x25 cm

I consider the purpose of this demonstration not only to show you how I painted the autumn forest in watercolor in stages, but also voice your thoughts, why I took this or that step in my work.

I guess understanding "WHY" is more useful than knowing "how the author did it".

I'll start with a description of the materials, because anyway, someone will ask... 🙂

Etude "Autumn Forest". Materials:

I painted on Arshes watercolor paper, 100% cotton, 300 g/m, Grain Fin texture (medium grain).

Paints "Nevskaya Palitra":

  • Indian yellow
  • Indian golden
  • Venetian red
  • Lilac quinacridone
  • Blue
  • Sepia
  • Large round squirrel
  • Medium round with a fine tip, synthetic
  • Fine brush with an elongated bristle (liner brush or needle brush)

What is the difficulty of drawing an autumn landscape with limited space?

That is why I started the sketch with caution and a willingness to spoil everything...

Let's see how I managed as a result to maintain the integrity of the perception of the picture and not to dry the watercolor.

HOW TO DRAW AUTUMN LANDSCAPE WITH WATERCOLOR IN STEP:

Preparing paper for watercolor painting

I consider this moment technologically important.

Empirically, I came to the following option for preparing paper in the open air: moisten the reverse side of the sketch, wait for the paper to stretch and attach the sheet with masking tape to the tablet. The top of the sheet remains dry.

So the sheet will not go in a wave, the paint will evenly spread inside the paper layer, and will not form sharp borders.

At home, I wet both sides of the paper, but in the open air there is no time to wait for drying.

Autumn landscape drawing

I am doing a light drawing. In this case, it is not difficult. It is important to find the ground line and place the main tree trunks.

I paint all the small details right away with a brush.

I did not photograph the drawing, because I was not sure of the result. After the first fillings, a work plan matured in my head, and I began to photograph the stages. So there will be more photos.

First fill

  1. I begin to paint an etude of an autumn landscape from a light layer of the sky behind the trees.

I'm doing a very liquid fill with a gradient from pale blue at the top of the leaf to slightly warm near the horizon line.

2. Below is the surface of the earth. I stretch from a pale solution of Venetian Red to its mixture with Indian Gold at the bottom of the leaf.

When I paint the ground, I leave gaps between the horizontal strokes of the brush, so that there is a light effect on the lying leaves. This gives luminosity and airiness.

How to paint autumn trees with a splash

Since the trees here are in backlight, against the light, the distant leaves glow more, they are light, and the front ones are dark.

This is very handy when painting an autumn landscape in watercolor, because in watercolor we move from light to dark.

That's why I paint the crown, gradually increasing the tone of the foliage. I start with Indian yellow, then I mix with Indian golden, and in the end I will write the brightest crimson leaves simply with Indian golden.

I love this paint from "Nevskaya Palitra" - it is very juicy and allows you to give both light and dark shades of yellow!

And now, attention, how I drew the crown to get away from detailing!

I sprayed it!

To repeat this trick, take a large soft brush that absorbs a lot of solution, and shaking it, spray paint from it onto the wet surface of the sketch.

This method does not give you tight control over the image of the foliage, it eliminates the detail.

Ink on wet paper begins to disperse in larger spots.

The second layer of spray is darker and a little thicker, the paint spreads less, the spots are more pronounced:

But cotton paper makes itself felt - it is still wet inside, and the paint spreads quite well.

To restore more gaps between the leaves, I stick a paper towel to the wet layer. She both dries and selects part of the layer:

When the layer is a little more dry, I sprinkle the brightest crimson leaves of Indian golden.

By the way, as you can see above, while I was waiting for the crown to dry out, I painted the ground with fallen leaves.

How to draw the surface of the earth in an autumn landscape

Remember a simple rule that will allow you to depict the earth as a lying, and not standing on end, horizontal surface.

The ground in the foreground should be darker than in the distance.

Those. at the bottom of the study, the color of the earth should be much darker:

I used a mixture of Venetian Red and Sepia to represent the ground. More sepia in the foreground to make the color darker.

Draw an autumn forest in watercolor:

tree trunks

I start painting tree trunks. Peering into the color of birches, I understand that they are shade pink! That's why you need to paint in the open air - no photo will show you such subtle nuances of color!

Therefore, I take Venetian red as the basis for the birch trunk.

For dark markings and other types of trees, I use a mixture of Blue and Sepia.

At the same time, with a paler solution of this color, I paint an array of trees in the distance, in the gap between the trunks.

To separate the tree trunks from the background and show the backlight, I scratch light lines along the outline of the trunk on the left with a map:

In the main color of the trunk, as it dries slightly, I enter black marks.

tree branches

The crown is dry. You can draw branches. To do this, I use a thin brush with a long bristle, which allows you to make calligraphically light flying lines.

Crown of trees. Using spray

Once again I return to the spray.

With a concentrated solution of Indian yellow, I spray on the crown of birches. Now the spots do not blur. So I spray thoughtfully. For this I tap with a large brush with paint on the shaft of another brush.

I add sprayed leaves on the foreground shrub. I use Indian yellow for this.

The final stages of DRAWING AUTUMN LANDSCAPE:

Generalization

At the end of the work, it is necessary to step back from it and see if there is any fragmentation, what can be combined?

In my case, I didn't like the rhythm of the trees on the right. (When I was drawing them, a local alcoholic approached me and tried to buy this sketch for 100 rubles. 🙂 I got excited and bumped the trunks as I saw them, without thinking about the composition...)

Therefore, I decide to darken the background behind the trunks and thereby combine the obvious stripes of the trunks into a larger mass. So the viewer's attention will be more drawn to the left side of the study, where the sunlight is clearly visible through the trees.

Therefore, in the end, I intensified the dark tones of the black birch branches and marks on the trunks.

(If drawing trees and landscapes with them is difficult for you, check out the master class below!)

So let's recap.

I solved the difficult problem of a study with limited space due to the correct distribution of tone: distant plans are light, near ones are dark. This helped backlight.

In order not to go into detail, I did most of the work in a raw way, I used a spray instead of painting the crown with strokes.

For a harmonious perception of the landscape, do not forget about the stage of generalization and the placement of accents in the darkest and lightest colors.

If you found this demo helpful, feel free to leave a comment. This will give me an understanding that I am on the right track.
