The apartment of a lonely elderly man. He himself is sloppy and the apartment is sloppy. At the doorbell, the landlord jumps out of the toilet with Esmarch's mug in his hand. All this at first made an impression as a non-repertory performance with a "humor". But at the very first dialogues, the depth of meaning and the vitality of the situation manifested itself. Jewish humor was seen as part of the life of the characters, not as popular witticisms with added accents and inherent intonations.
I have always treated the acting work of Leonid Kanevsky evenly. He never interested me, never fascinated me. And then he showed himself at full power. There was no artificiality in his game, every word was spoken not just by the actor Kanevsky, but by Harry Bendiner performed by Leonid Kanevsky. The unkemptness of the hero, the emptiness of his life, the absence of a happy future, which is bitterly realized and accepted by Harry without resistance and desire to change anything. True, when he learns about the departure of the only close person, and part-time subordinate Harry, to the Promised Land, he begins to get nervous loudly and try to prevent Mark's departure. Acting does not tear you away from the action on stage, makes you listen to every line, catch the slightest change in intonation, because it is interesting and professional.
I never shared the admiration of critics for the actor Daniil Spivakovsky. I saw him in different roles - in Frankenstein, in TV shows. Unfortunately, I saw him on stage for the first time. In cinematic works, he did not inspire confidence in me - everything was somehow unnatural and lifeless. I did not believe in his characters. And here is a completely different image - the image of a little man, a Jew who miraculously escaped from the Warsaw ghetto, henpecked, whose only happiness is his wife and children, playing, as expected, on the violin. His hero Mark walks in a cap, in a vest buttoned up with all buttons, about which he honestly informs his wife by phone from Harry's house. He knows everything about the life of his boss Harry Bendiner, and he, at one time, saved and took Mark out of the hell of the ghetto, so the hero of Spivakovsky sincerely worries about the fate and future life of Harry, because with the departure of Mark and his family from America, Harry remains all alone in this life. In the dialogues of the characters, one feels warmth and pity, common memories, common tragedies. Mark condemns Harry for being reckless and promiscuous. The play quotes the Song of Songs. How beautiful and wonderful it is! Jewish music sounds, Hava Nagila, desperate dances.
I see Clara Novikova as a dramatic actress for the first time. She is, of course, an average actress. In each remark - the intonations of her reprises, Aunt Sonya and the like "classics". But all these “acting finds and clichés” are not annoying, because the plot does not allow you to make a boring face. She plays well, doesn't over-comic, listens to her partner-actors. She is elegant and graceful, dressed with taste and very plastic. The pleasure of seeing a woman, already a grandmother in real life, well-groomed, in excellent physical shape.
This performance is about kindness, human warmth, help, love. Each hero has his own tragedy in life, his own losses, disappointments and his own love, which he carries through his whole life. Someone this love pulls to live on, and someone carries away to the next world, because the power of love for the already departed from this world leads a person after the second half. And life, and tears, and love ...
Harry's wife, four years before her death, leaves him after learning about another betrayal. And I knew before, but this time I could not forgive and just left, died. And he still managed to be offended, did not come to the funeral and never was at the grave. Harry loved her in his own way, loved her daughter and their common son, but the children passed away tragically early, leaving a race car driver grandson who has the wind in his head, because he is a race car driver, and he doesn’t need a grandfather. Suddenly, on the threshold of his sad apartment, a dear lady, a widow, a neighbor appears. She is looking for companionship, because she is lonely after the death of her husband and the departure of her daughter (their daughters have the same name - also for a reason). A sincere feeling flares up between them after several hours of communication and drinking whiskey. And then a magical candlelight dinner of the most delicious dishes of Jewish cuisine. Whoever loves and knows how to cook will swallow saliva at the mention of mincemeat, sweet and sour roast with prunes and strudel! When people feel the warmth of each other's souls, when they catch every word uttered by a loved one, they cannot breathe in communication - this is a real feeling that flares up suddenly, warming souls, enveloping hearts with joy and happiness.
So everything was easy, funny and witty in the play at first. But there was also a bitter moment. But the ending is still kind and bright. Life goes on. Who could survive after the departure of a loved one, and who asked to pray for himself in this world, and he prayed for those who remained in the next. And the cheerful dance to the accompaniment of "Khava Nagila" is so organically integrated into the action that it does not look like a pop act.
If you want to see love, rejoice in happiness, smile at goodness, then be sure to watch the play by Valery Mukharyamov staged by Yevgeny Arye “Late Love”. But love never comes late, it is always young, because it comes to kind hearts, making people happy, and this feeling punishes, humiliates and destroys vile people.

Hava nagila, hava nagila, hava nagila venismeha!
Let's rejoice, let's rejoice, let's rejoice and rejoice!

A play about Harry Bendiner, a lonely old man with whom unexpectedly true love happens, has long and dearly been my favorite!
Love that turns his life upside down, filling it with new meaning.

I dreamed of seeing Leonid Kanevsky in this role, who is almost another legend for me.
And how good he was! Intonations, gestures, pauses - oh my God! I myself fell in love with this Harry!
But the show doesn't stop there!
As a worthy frame for the soloist Harry, there are two more: Mark and Ethel.
Clara Novikova and Daniil Spivakovsky. Oh, how I looked forward to their appearance on stage.
And Spivakovsky is the best Mark I have ever seen.

And in general, this is the best production of "Late Love".
An amazing dense performance space. Perfectly matched decorations that create the effect of a real home.
And amazing actors!
And you know what's most amazing?
Despite the fact that I had already seen this performance in other theaters, as soon as the lights on the stage came on, I completely forgot
about the plot, and about everything in general!
I watched the show again. She laughed and cried again. I was a completely white sheet of paper, on which, by the end of the performance, a picture of a new me appeared. Updated.

Be sure to go to this show!
It's the perfect late love

A performance from a series of those that completely discourage a normal person from further trips to the "Temples of Art", especially since this "temple" does a lot for this, and everything else contributes to the disgusting visibility of the stage due to the wrong angle of raising the floors. (It's amazing how the audience endured for so many decades? That's where the example of patience is!! And the example of the theater administration's indifference to these very spectators!!) he is, as they say today, "no"! What claims to be humor in it is capable of evoking not at all loud laughter, but only brief laughter, and even then infrequent. Well, if the screenwriter wanted to amuse the viewer with "subtle Jewish humor", then he should have taken, albeit a short, creative business trip to Odessa - there he would have picked up the true one. Philosophical frills in the plot, even through theatrical binoculars, can not be seen. Lyrical-compassionate - too. It’s obviously overdone with the return of the hero: a dozen in the minus - it would be all right ... And the plot twist, when the heroine jumped out of the window, generally plunges into shocking bewilderment, because she was not prepared in the course of the action by anything and only showing a certain amount of imagination it can be assumed that this act was caused by the deep disappointment of the still youthful charmer with the bed feat of her chosen one, breathing in her incense. (Well, isn't she a fool? What were you waiting for?) More about the plot. The plot is cosmopolitan, it is projected onto any earthly place and any nation. But the desire of one of the characters to move to the "promised places", plus Jewish chants directly point to the historical roots of the work, and, at the same time, the actors. Why did the director need this? Does it even matter a little? After all, it turned out to be a "Jewish theater" in the Russian capital, staged in a grayish tone and played according to a grayish work! Not the best. It's a pity! And finally, about the acting. Impression: choose any three of the mortals, let me memorize the text, hammer in "Hava nagilu" plus two or three dance steps and release it on stage - it will be like a pro. And it's not the latter's fault. Just according to the plot, their game is the voicing of the text with minimal acting quirks. There is nothing to turn around. In short, citizens. To whom money is not a pity and theatrical conveniences "to hell with it", I INVITE!

I saw the play “late love” in the playbill of the theater on Malaya Bronnaya and I think: “Ostrovsky ?! Interesting. You have to go and see." I came to the theater to watch Ostrovsky, sat down in the hall, and waited. The light in the hall went out, and with the set of light, the phone suddenly starts ringing. In the beginning, an evil thought arose in my head that someone again forgot to turn off the phone, then I understand that this is on stage and again an evil thought that they really modernized Ostrovsky to a telephone. Suddenly a man appears on the stage ... but I remember that Ostrovsky's first scene is completely female ...
Soon, all my thoughts about Ostrovsky fade into the background, and I begin to fully immerse myself in what is happening on stage. It is impossible to take your eyes off Leonid Kanevsky. All his antics, facial expressions, plasticity, voice seem to chain. He is comical, serious and at the same time simple in his game.
There are only three characters in the play, and one of them appears only twice, at the beginning and at the end of the play. For almost two hours, with an intermission, of course, there are only two people on the stage, they are having a casual conversation with their revelations, memories, jokes and experiences. It would seem that it should be boring, but on the contrary, you do not notice how time flies.
Clara Novikova, who plays Ethel, is unimaginably good. It's impossible not to fall in love with her. She flirts and laughs contagiously, lovingly talks about her past, but the pain of what happened, it turns out, is stronger than her.
The performance is full of humor, pleasure and happiness from life. Even the scenery, before being in the foreground of the stage, seems to be dancing a dance in front of us. She seems alive and also full of life.
There is nothing special in the play itself, written, by the way, by Valery Mukharyamov and not by Ostrovsky. It's a simple plot, there are no special actions in it. She lives off the acting, and the acting in this production is simply amazing.
Then you go out with a smile on your face and eagerly inhale the evening air. Life is Beautiful.

Ostrovsky's play "Late Love" is probably known to every schoolchild. But in the interpretation of Yegor Peregudov, it turned out to be very unexpected. The production turned out to be both sad and funny, light and wise, a little ironic and subtle.

About the play "Late Love"

What awaits the audience on stage? First, the search for answers to eternal questions. It turns out that “Late love” is not just an age, it is an act that can be done at 18, 20, and 30. This is a state of mind when you really want to be loved.

In the center of the play "Late Love" is the question - what price is a person willing to pay for happiness when it seems to be very close? Abandon principles? Sacrifice life, both your own and someone else's? Give the last? Each of the characters decides for himself - what is the border of morality, where is the very line between "possible" and "impossible", is it worth crossing it and will it really bring that very happiness?

Together with the audience, "Late Love" is experienced on stage by Alena Babenko, who surprises her fans with frank eccentricity on the verge of clowning, Marina Khazova, Nikolai Klyamchuk and other famous actors.

Other works of the director

Performance Late love - video

This story is amazing, sincere, it touches the soul and forever remains in the heart of every viewer. The game of Leonid Kanevsky is beyond praise. His duet with Klara Novikova (Ethel) grabs attention and does not let go until the final remarks, gestures and glances. The talented work of director Yevgeny Arie, a chamber and tender performance about the most important feeling in the life of any person.

Wonderful tragicomedy! The acting is mesmerizing, you literally live the whole performance with them. A deep bow to Leonid Kanevsky and Clara Novikova for their talent and mastery of the roles. Bravo!!!

More than the performance itself, we were amazed by the audience. How warmly the audience received the work of the actors. We were shocked. Thanks to the actors and the audience.

Wonderful performance. The actors are talented. Liked by Daniil Spivakovsky I am very glad that I got to the performance with his participation. And Klara Novikova is just a wonderful actress, Leonid Kanevsky is just a talent with a capital letter. I watched the performance in one breath.

The performance is undoubtedly cute and pleasant, but, in my opinion, it has a couple of moments that make it just good instead of being wonderful. 1) The whole charm of the performance lies in the images of elderly ladies. Which should be absolutely charming (no complaints here), but at the same time completely different (and here is the question). And it was precisely this difference in personalities, styles, speech that was not enough for me to be completely happy. All the ladies are nice, but they are still on the same wavelength, but I wanted "to have overlapping waves." 2) It does not feel like a director's work at all. Perhaps the bet was made on the rich stage (and life too) experience of the actors, but the result was some uniformity of action. Which, let's be honest, sags somewhat in the middle and clearly requires a bright revitalizing touch. But I was very impressed by the role of Leonid. In fact, this seems to be such a "framework role", not at all central. But the elegance and ease with which the actor brought together all the other actors, and created on the stage the actual "scene" and the GAME is worthy of all admiration. He definitely made my evening. I can't help but note the excellent find with the elevator shaft. A very talented touch. Summary: I believe that teenagers will not be close to the topic, but adults 35 ++ will surely enjoy it, especially if you do not count on comedy. The audience around me spoke exclusively in a positive way. P.S. About places. My fears about the flat stalls turned out to be groundless. We had the edge of the 8th row, and from there it was perfectly visible due to the elevation of the stage. I believe that the optimal range of rows is somewhere from 3 to 10. Further - it's just too far, and closer - you have to lift your head to look at the stage. From the side boxes - well, except for dropping handkerchiefs, I doubt that anything can be seen from there. P.P.S. About the buffet. Freeze-dried tea (as the barmaid called it) of the color of washing liquid and the same taste for a few minutes killed my susceptibility to beauty. The coffee wasn't much better. About the taste of a cake for indecent money, I will keep silent out of sympathy for readers. In general, if you go to a buffet, then be prepared for the fact that only alcoholic drinks can be taken there.

Have you ever loved someone much older or younger than you? At different ages, the same difference is perceived in completely different ways. If at 20 a man 10 years older seems like an old man, then at 30 this difference is not very noticeable, and later you can say a peer). It's probably easier for men, they never age like women. And in the most extreme case, there is always whiskey. As Ethel Brokeles said: "A couple of sips of whiskey and there is no age." All these thoughts prompted me to watch the play "Late Love" at the Moscow Drama Theater on Malaya Bronnaya. The performance was staged by Evgeny Arnier based on the play by Valery Mukharyamov, who, in turn, wrote it based on the story “In the Shade of the Vineyard” by Isaac Bashevis-Singer. I confess that I have not read these works, but after viewing such a desire arose. The performance caught my attention with the cast. I have never seen Klara Novikova on the stage of the theater, for me she is Aunt Sonya from the TV that my parents watched in my childhood. Therefore, it was interesting to look at the duet with Leonid Kanevsky, Honored Artist of Russia. But Daniil Spivakovsky is an actor of my time. And it was his game that I remember the most! Although he did not have many scenes in the play. "Late Love" is a rather dynamic performance, the viewer is constantly riveted to the stage. The dialogues of the characters are in the first place here, their remarks can be parsed into quotes. The hall then filled with laughter, then calmed down in deathly silence, waiting for what will happen next. To the tune of "hava nagila" he was completely ready to start dancing. Sometimes everything that happened on the stage was so sincere that I felt like I was peeping through the keyhole behind two unsuspecting people. The ending was unexpected, made us think about the transience and unpredictability of our life. You never know what other surprises fate has in store for us. You need to live here and now, not be afraid to love and receive love. Fight the fear of rejection and just live, enjoying every day. I think it makes no sense to retell the plot, a brief history is in the performance announcement on the theater website. I would like you to experience these moments yourself and, I think, depending on age and life experience, everyone will have their own perception of this story. I would like to tell you a little about the theater itself. It is located within a 10-minute walk from the Pushkinskaya and Tverskaya metro stations. It is pleasant to walk to it in the evening along Tverskoy Boulevard. The theater itself is cozy, the hall is small. The only thing I didn't like was that spectators with invitations without seats are allowed to take empty seats after the first bell. By the third bell, a crowd of spectators with tickets rushed into the hall and turmoil began in the forefront. It would be great if the theater administration paid attention to this.
