Iron Throne ("Game of Thrones"): a symbol of royalty from the swords of defeated enemies. DIY Iron Throne from Game of Thrones! GAME OF THRONES

24.09.2019

From the swords of defeated enemies. This is a very high, uncomfortable and dangerous seat with protruding spikes and blades - it happened that kings wounded themselves on the blades of the throne, and at least one king, Maegor Targaryen, died right on the throne. The king sits on the throne during ceremonial receptions and court hearings. The right to rise to the throne and sit on it is only for the king himself, and in his absence - for the right hand, replacing the monarch.

Story

A long straight sword is a knightly weapon traditional for Westeros, a symbol of military prowess. During the Conquest, Aegon I Targaryen demanded that conquered kings and lords give him their swords as a sign of submission. After major military victories on the battlefields, the swords of fallen enemies were collected by special order of the king and sent to King's Landing.

The throne was originally built at Aegonforth Castle on Aegon's high hill. This unsightly fortress, hastily built at the very beginning of the Conquest, annoyed Ægon, and on his orders Ægonforth was demolished to build on the same place a more stately Red Keep; The Iron Throne, too massive for any movement, remained in the same place, even when the walls and roof around it were torn down. King Aegon did not live to see construction begin; when his heir, Aenys Targaryen, came to King's Landing to take the throne, the Iron Throne was found to be standing out in the open amid heaps of earth and rubble. The new Red Castle was erected around the Iron Throne without moving it from its place.

The Iron Throne is a very uncomfortable seat; climbing the stairs and even just sitting on the throne, you need to be careful not to get hurt by the protruding blades. In the eyes of the Westerosi, such wounds are also symbolic - it is believed that the Throne rejects those who are not worthy to occupy it.

Have you ever seen the Iron Throne? Spikes, strips of twisted steel, sword blades twisted and fused together? This seat is not comfortable, sir. Aerys wounded himself so often that he was called the Scab King, and Maegor the Cruel was slain on that throne. This throne, if rumors are to be believed. One cannot feel at ease on such a seat. I often ask myself why my brothers were so eager to take it. Stannis Baratheon on the Iron Throne / A Storm of Swords, Davos IV

Quotes

The Iron Throne of Aegon the Conqueror met any fool who wanted to sit on it with comfort, a grin of spikes and blades, and the steps were a serious test for Tyrion's short legs. He climbed them, acutely feeling how he must be ridiculous from the outside. But one property of the throne redeemed all the others: it was high. Clash of Kings, Tyrion VI
Huge, bulky, black, twisted, with a steep iron staircase in front. The seat is so high that the king looks down on everyone ... My throne is a hunched beast that literally hangs over the throne room with its ugly and asymmetrical figure ...<…>This Iron Throne is huge. Ugly. Asymmetrical. It is a throne built by blacksmiths who used hammers to knock half-molten, broken, twisted swords into each other, torn from the hands of the dead or voluntarily given up by defeated enemies ... a symbol of conquest ...<…>The king on this throne towers over the entire throne room. And it has thousands of swords, not just a couple.

Every fan of the Game of Thrones series knows that the Iron Throne is the chair on which the ruler of the Andals and the First Men sits. This ruler is often referred to as the King of the Iron Throne. This unusual chair is located in the main hall of the Red Castle, in the capital of the kingdom - King's Landing. The king has the right to sit on this throne, his viceroy is the regent or the right hand of the king. The Iron Throne in the world of Game of Thrones is a symbol of power. Whoever sits on it rules over all the seven kingdoms.

The Iron Throne Game of Thrones - pretend it's yours.

Game of Thrones Throne of swords was forged by direct order of Aegon the First Targaryen, who was popularly called Aegon the Conqueror. Together with his army, he conquered six of the seven kingdoms. The entire throne is forged from hundreds and thousands of swords of defeated enemies. Fire for forging was given by dragons. The blacksmiths' jewelry work lasted as long as 59 days. More than three centuries have passed since the creation of the throne, and many swords are still very sharp.

The copy of the throne from the Game of Thrones is very similar to the original. You can put it on your desktop near your computer and fly away with your thoughts very far, imagining yourself worthy to ascend this throne. The throne from Game of Thrones is available as a gift for a fan of the fantasy series, and we know for sure that this item will be received with open arms.

  • Just do not try to sit on this throne - the blacksmiths tried for 59 days.

For the sake of it, betrayals, murders, coup d'état and treason were committed. For the sake of their possession, wars were started. We are talking about the most unusual and desirable artifact of Westeros, well known to all fans of the "Game of Thrones" - the Iron Throne.

George R. R. Martin, author of books and co-writer of the series, decided that it was not appropriate for a series of formidable rulers to sit on an ordinary chair, even if it was cast in gold. He came up with something cooler. And I must say that his idea had a considerable success.

Creation

This is the case when the reader knows more than the viewer. The history of the Iron Throne is much more detailed in the books. Although in the series this image is not the last place. Still, because the struggle for him never subsided!

Why is the Iron Throne so remembered by fans of the Game of Thrones, what is so outstanding about it? This is a thing with history, and if superstitious gossip is to be believed, then also with character. There are rumors in Westeros that the throne itself can decide that the king is not worthy of him, and then injure the monarch, or even kill him.

The Iron Throne was created by order of Aegon I Targaryen from the weapons of the vanquished. Some of the swords used to belong to the ironborn and were brought from the burned Harrenhal. The other part was brought along the Blackwater from the Flaming Field, the swords were also heavily melted by the flames of the dragons. With swords, Torrhen Stark paid the ransom, recognizing the power of Targaryen. The Eagle's Nest also obeyed without a fight, from where Visenya Targaryen brought another batch of weapons that previously belonged to the garrison.

As you can see, some of the weapons were mutilated by fire, and some are quite usable. The king ordered that the same throne be built from swords. Blacksmiths worked on the order, and the personal dragon of the ruler, Balerion, heated and melted the iron with his flame.

The nondescript fortress of Aegonforth, which was built as a temporary shelter, was soon demolished. But the throne was so huge and heavy that they decided not to touch it. The red castle, in fact, was simply erected around the throne.

royal comfort

First of all, we note that no one intentionally blunted swords. It is easy to guess that the Iron Throne in the Game of Thrones is not only inconvenient, but also dangerous. But that doesn't make it any less desirable.

The Iron Throne in the A Song of Ice and Fire books

To everyone who watched the series, the throne seems like an incredible structure, truly powerful and monumental. But in the books, he's even scarier and bigger! According to the author, it took about 1000 swords to build it.

By the way, the book throne hurt several owners. And Maegor the Cruel died sitting on it. The cause of death of Viserys I was also the throne - the king injured himself and after a while died of infection, although they tried to treat him, and even amputated his fingers.

The image of the throne in the series "Game of Thrones"

The Iron Throne, the photo of which is presented in this section, is familiar to everyone who watched the fate of the Seven Kingdoms on the screen. Although he does not look like a giant metal monster, he looks quite menacing.

Fans of the series first saw on the throne After his death, his step-sons Joffrey and Tommen ruled the state. Then Cersei ascended the throne, but her position remains precarious.

Future owner of the throne

The main contender for the crown remains. But it is impossible to say that she will become the next owner of the Iron Throne in the Game of Thrones. The war continues, and the writers still have a lot of jokers and trump aces up their sleeves. For example, quite recently, viewers became aware that Jon Snow is not Ned Stark's bastard at all, but the legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen, which means that he has much more rights to the throne than Deaenerys.

Therefore, for everyone who wants to know who will sit on the Iron Throne in the Game of Thrones, there is only one thing left - to wait for the new season.

List of materials

  1. 2 sheets of styrofoam.
  2. Ceiling plinth. I had about 20-30 pieces. Each 2m.
  3. Glue for tiles.
  4. PVA glue.
  5. Black acrylic paint. 300ml
  6. Golden paint. (great for spray paint) 1 fl.
  7. Oilcloth or newspapers.
  8. Old brush.

To your frame (chair, stool,) you attach a backrest cut out of polystyrene foam. This can be done with liquid nails or tape. It all depends on what material you have.
I needed to secure the back to the frame, so I opted for tape. The sides of the throne were also made of Styrofoam. After that, I started to cut the swords out of the ceiling plinth. When buying a plinth, you choose the width of your swords yourself. I have all were the same size, except for the main two. When I bought paint, I was told that I could choose one defective skirting board as a gift, I chose the most beautiful one! :-)

Let's go back to the throne. When you have chosen the size of your future swords, cut the baseboard, undermined your swords, do not forget to leave material for the handles.
Further, I strongly advise you to paint the plinth. I first started to fix it, in connection with this, in the future there were problems with careful painting. I had to buy spray paint to paint over hard-to-reach places on the throne.
You can paint with ordinary black acrylic paint diluted with pva glue. Paint the baseboards and the throne itself. Once everything is dry, use a gold-colored spray paint to create a bronze worn effect. Spray the paint in several places on the sword and immediately rub it with an old brush. Let it dry and start attaching the swords (which are without handles) to the throne.
Here you can improvise, I tried to do at least something similar to the original.
We made the upper cap of the throne, the first and second tiers. Then fasten the third, the lowest. Attach to the styrofoam sheet with tile adhesive. The back of the chair interfered with me, so I had to strengthen everything with tape.
After fixing all the tiers, start making the main one, so to speak, the front one. This is where the hilted swords will be visible. Glue the hilts on the swords, paint and stick to your design or randomly attach them to the tiers of your throne, only now point down. Glue the swords on the sides as well. We have painted foam rubber on the seat of the chair.
The bottom of the throne was empty, but we plan to fill this gap and improve this creation. You can attach a cut out sheet of Styrofoam to the bottom and decorate it with swords as well.

Guys, I would like to warn you a little.
Acrylic paint dries quickly, but you can still get dirty, so be sure to wear your creative work clothes. Use gloves and a mask.
Cover the floor with oilcloth or at least newspapers, as you risk staining the apartment with paint.
I was so engrossed that now, the balcony floor is a bit decorated. Hope the neighbors appreciate it!

If you use spray paint, it is also advisable to cover nearby furniture. Even if it seems to you that you are "spraying" right on the course, in fact, the paint is gradually sprayed over a radius of a couple of meters and then settles.

It seems to be everything. The accelerated version of the throne is ready! It remains to transport it to another room, in which my mother helped me a lot :-) and decorate the hall with a couple more themed little things. Draw the Westeros flag and order a dragon egg cake.

I hope you like my idea, and my tips will help you do something new and interesting!

All Peace and Goodness!
