Quick vector drawing in CorelDRAW X8 CorelDraw tutorials for beginners

09.09.2021

This lesson is designed for more advanced Corel users, but it seems to me that there is nothing particularly complicated here, all the shapes are simple, the only thing that is required of you is desire! I tried to detail the lesson in more detail, this time, focusing not on the text, but on the drawings, and I did not paint the instruments in detail. Users who are sufficiently familiar with the tools should understand everything from the drawings. If you have any questions please contact me, I'm always happy to help.

1) In this lesson, when drawing figures, I used the "Free Hand" tool more.
Therefore, first sketch out the contour of the eye and the upper eyelid, adjust the shape of the objects using the "Shape"

2) Draw another contour and apply a fill with a linear orientation to it. In the settings we set the colors: CMYK (0; 60; 60; 40) and (71; 89; 88; 39).

3) Using the "Ellipse" tool, draw an oval (marked with a red outline in the figure), fill it with pink (2; 16; 9; 0) and apply the "Interactive translucency" tool of the linear type to it.

Now draw the same small ellipse at the base of the eye, rotate it a bit and fill it with color (10;44;45;0). We remove the outline.

4) Using the "Free hand" tool, draw another object, fill it with color (3; 26; 37; 0) and apply the "Interactive transparency" of the base type. Let's draw another stroke, fill it with color (44;79;86;3), "Interactive transparency" is also applied to it, but of a linear type.

5) Near this stroke we make another one (you can also copy the first one), which is filled with color (3; 20; 25; 0), using translucency.

6) We draw another ellipse on top of our images, i.e. oval. Fill it with a gradient with colors: (0;20;20;0) and (0;20;40;40) and apply a basic translucency.

7) Now, above the crease of the eyelid, we need to draw the following figure and draw the white of the eye with the same ellipse. Fill both shapes with white and apply linear translucency.

9) On the resulting circle with a shadow, apply translucency.

10) Above the eye, namely on the eyelid, draw with the "Free Hand" a kind of eye shadow, I filled this object with pink (2; 16; 9; 0), focusing on naturalness, and you - as you like. Under the eye, we also draw the figure shown in the figure. Apply linear translucency to both resulting shapes. I also added another similar pink shape to the upper eyelid and applied basic transparency to it.

11) Using the "Ellipse" tool, draw a second circle on top of the first. Fill it with color (67;54;81;12) and use the translucency tool with a linear type, also add a dark color outline to this circle. On the left, draw an object that will be darkened, it has a color fill (4; 30; 38; 0).

12) Draw the iris of the eye using the Paths and Interactive Distort tools (concave and convex distortion). I have shown two ways to get the iris. I corrected the lines that went beyond the contours with an eraser. Fill color - (78;66;81;46).

13) Draw another circle on the pupil, filling it with color (65;52;74;8) and applying basic translucency.

14) The next circle does not contain a fill, but only a gray color of the outline, we impose it on the image.

15) With the help of the "Free hand" draw a small circle, fill it with white and apply a basic translucency.

16) Now, on top of our pupil, draw two circles, one large in color, the other - the pupil itself (both black). Make the large circle semi-transparent (base type).

18) Draw highlights and apply basic translucency.

19) Let's draw another highlight, similar to an inverted heart, apply a linear translucency to it.

20) Now with the help of the "Free Hand" tool we will depict the cilia, these will not be the main cilia, but only the base. For example, I just sketched "by hand", and then corrected everything with the help of "Form", gave it smoothness and sharpness.

21) Now we put a shadow on the resulting "cilia".

22) And now the most interesting! With the help of the "Painting" tool we draw our "real" cilia on the upper and lower eyelids. Pay attention to the shape of the brush I chose: it is pointed at both ends and is very suitable for drawing eyelashes.

Have you drawn a character on paper and now it needs to be drawn in vector? Then this lesson is for you.

So let's get started.
1. First of all, you need to scan (take a picture) of the drawing. Then it needs to be imported into CorelDraw. Select a menu item file -> Import... and specify the path to the scanned (photographed) file.
2. Place the imported file in the working area of the document and right-click on the object, select the item lock object. This action will lock the object, which will make the work more convenient.

Now using the tools Ellipse and Bezier, we circle the parts of the body of our character along the contour.

If you are new to CorelDraw or a tool Bezier, and the contours are not quite even - it's okay. Use the tool shape tool and edit point by point. You can change the type of reference point either by right-clicking on it and selecting the required type, or by selecting the point and changing its type on the panel property bar.
3. Here is our hero already drawn. In the contours, we now remove the scanned drawing so that it does not interfere with perception. Right click on it and select Unlock Object, then move the pattern to the side.

The next step is the color fill. Select body parts and fill with the desired color by left-clicking on the color swatch to change the fill and right-clicking to change the outline.

4. Now the character is colored, but looks flat and uninteresting. To add volume, draw our own shadows and highlights. Usually lighting is taken from the left-top, which means that the shadows will be on the right-bottom, and highlights on the left-top. Shadows and highlights are created by a tool we already know Bezier. Or you can use another method. For example, to make a shadow on the arm, duplicate the arm itself twice and shift the upper duplicate to the left, so that part of the lower duplicate becomes the size of the shadow. Next, select both duplicates and on the panel property bar choose manipulation back minus front.
The resulting shadow set the color a little darker than the main one. Highlights are made according to the same principle, only the color must be set lighter than the main one.

Remember! When creating shadows on objects of complex shape, the shape of the shadow must follow the shape of the object. For example, on the head, the shadow in some places will pass like meridians on globes.
When the shadows and highlights are placed, a small stroke remains - a falling shadow. To do this, draw an oval with the tool Ellipse and with the tool Drop Shadow create a drop shadow. Adjusting the shadow settings on the panel property bar.

From the oval + shadow group, we only need a shadow. To remove the oval, open the palette Windows->Dockers->Object Manager, right-click on the oval+shadow group and select Break Drop Shadow. Delete the oval, place a shadow under the character.
The character is ready!

5. It remains to save the image in raster format for easier viewing. Select a menu item File->Export..., give a name to the file, specify the file type, for example jpg. In the next dialog box, specify the RGB color scheme and click Ok.

To consolidate the materials of the lesson, we will repeat the stages of drawing
1. Scanning a drawing. Import to CorelDraw
2. Drawing contours
3. Fill with color
4. Giving volume
5. Export to bitmap file type

Following these simple rules, you can create very high-quality work. Remember that Corel products are not only created for entertainment or revealing your creative potential, they are also a convenient professional tool with which you can earn money. The character in this tutorial was created in CorelDraw for a competition run by a very large car manufacturer. Our hero managed to reach the final. So fill your hand and go for it!

Good luck to all.

Let's start. Our task is to draw a vector. In simple terms, you need to draw a vector image over a raster image.

Now we need to get this result. I sat for about 30 minutes. I used a graphics tablet.

1) Select the size of the work area A3. Position the image in the center of the workspace. Select a car and click on the button A. Now lock the object.

2) Unblocking an object occurs in the same way as blocking. Choose a tool beziers. With it, we will draw raster objects. Watch the video carefully.

3) Click on the button and put points around the perimeter of the object. If you hold down the key alt then you can move the node around the working field. You can create new points by holding the left mouse button. You get smooth curves.

4) Start at the edge of the image and go around the perimeter of the shape. Right away you will not get the correct contour. Then you have to work with each node. When you close the path, you can see an arrow. It works like a binding. Draw a straight line in the middle of the car. The straight line must be straight!

5) When you have created all the curves, use the smart fill. Select this tool on the toolbar by clicking on the button.

6) Now click on each part of the image. By default, the area will be filled with gray. You can immediately change the color or later, in the process. Remember that if the area is closed, then only this tool will work. The future fill area should be limited to lines.

7) Now paint half of the car. You can use gradients. Watch the video.

8) When you have painted half of the car, move the colored pieces to the right in 500mm increments.

9) Group the part. Mirror the part using docker.

10) The detail is reflected, but it is clear that our car consists of 2 halves.

In this tutorial, we'll be using our test CorelDRAW® logo as a sports badge. We will work with freeform shapes, straight and curved lines, and symmetrical objects.

The techniques used in this tutorial can be adapted to create shapes such as bottles, glasses, flower pots, sports emblems, and other symmetrical objects.

Steps:

  1. Import the object (bitmap) into the workspace: Select File > Import (Ctrl + I) and press Input to center the image on the page.
  2. Select object and activate Transparency tool in the toolbox.

  3. Choose an option Uniform transparency on property panel(see image below) and lower the transparency level (*) of the image to the point where you can still use the bitmap as a guide. Once the effect has been applied, the transparency level can still be adjusted using the transparency slider that appears below the image.

(*) 70 - a good value, but it all depends on the level of contrast of the original image.

  4. block image to prevent unwanted movement. Select Object > Lock > Lock Object. As an option, right-click the object and choose Block object.
Note: When finished, click Unlock object and delete the bitmap that was used as a guide.

  5. Add vertical guide(*) in the center of the image (highlight the guide and press the P to center on the page). Then activate the tool bezier curve V toolbox. Alternatively, use the key Q for a quick call. Position anchor points only on the left side of the object. Add nodes around the edge of the shape as shown in the image below.

(*) Select the guides and make sure Binding to objects (View > Snap To > Guides) is enabled. (You can also use the drop-down list to select the binding option. Snap to on toolbar ).

  6. Click tool Form (F10) and frame the nodes ( they are marked with blue circles). To do this, drag the cursor around all the nodes.

  7. While the tool Form still activated, property panel select Convert to curves.

  8. Editing individual segments: Click and drag ends reference markers (blue reference markers are marked with red arrows - see below) so that they repeated the contour of the figure. Repeat these steps as you edit each segment so that the object's perimeter matches the shape used as a guide.

  9. Note that the segment with the blue circle is essentially a straight line. In this case, using the tool Form click segment right click and select the item Convert to line.

  10. When the left half of the form is ready, activate selection tool in toolbox and holding Ctrl key, click the center line, marked with a blue circle at the bottom. Then, holding Control key, drag the mouse to the right side. Release the mouse at the same time pressing the right button to duplicate an object ( marked in green), which is now exactly aligned to the left side ( marked in red).

If this method seems too complicated, just highlight the left side And press "+" on the numeric keypad to create a copy, and then, holding CTRL, drag this copy.

Use cases for the reflection function:

Now you can use the reflection function to flip the copy of the object to the other side. Select an object press "+" on the numeric keypad and click the icon Flip Horizontally on property panel. Drag a copy of the image, snapping it to a guide, and align both halves. While dragging, press and hold the key CTRL so that the movement occurs strictly horizontally.

  11. Attention! Before performing the following operations, make sure that both images are exactly aligned ( adjoin each other), and also that between the images no intervals top and/or bottom. If necessary, align and connect both halves of the image.

  12. Now select a tool Intelligent Fill V toolbox and click inside the object to fill it with any color you like ( in our case, yellow was used for filling).

To select a color and/or outline for an object Intelligent fill, use fill and outline options on property panel.

  13. Click and drag the filled shape to separate the objects. Right-click the image and select Unlock object, and then remove the background image ( marked with a red dashed line at the bottom).

  14. Fill the vector object with white (or choose no fill) and adjust the thickness of the contour line to your preference.

  15. Refinement:
    1. Add a horizontal rectangle to the main object, select the tool Form (F10) and holding the key Shift, click and drag the top left handle so that round corners.
      1. When finished, select a tool Circuit V toolbox and drag the mouse to create a path (inner or outer).
      2. On property panel set the number of contours and their distance from the original path.
      3. Then click Object > Break Contour Group.
      4. Ungroup objects ( Ctrl+U).
    2. Repeat these steps with the rest of the shapes you created earlier.
    3. Add vertical stripes below the rectangle.
    4. Enter your desired text and/or add other elements and apply a gradient fill.
    5. To emphasize individual elements, apply effects lenses, shadows And transparency.
    6. (In the figure below, the red lines indicate the original forms.)

Do you find it very difficult to draw a portrait without the skills of an artist or never having an art education behind you? In the lesson, we will look at how you can do without long training with good results. We will draw a portrait from a photo, simplifying complex details, creating layers to make our work easier.

Let's say right away that the first pancake will most likely be lumpy. If you need a professional result right away, it is better to order a portrait from us.

Difficulty level: high
Software used: CorelDraw X3

Photo

1.1 Find the photo we need and open it in a new document CorelDraw(File > New > Import > filename)

1.2 Make a bookmark in the right menu (Window > Dockers > Object Manager)

1.3 Create a new layer in this menu (New Layer) and name it, for example, - "pic"

1.4 Block our object (in the right menu, click on the small icon - a pencil)

Let's start with the face

2.1 Create the next layer on which to draw the face.

2.2 Let's name this layer - "face"

2.3 Tool freehand tool we begin to repeat the features of the face, neck and body.

2.4 It is best to use thin lines, say thick hair line. This can be configured in the panel below the top menu.

Choosing a sample

3.1 Drawing b O most of the lines of the face, you need to select the base skin tone from the imported image. Tool - Eye Drop Tool

3.2 We click on the picture until we find a color that we like and that can be used as the main skin tone.

3.3 Fill the drawn outline with the selected color.

Light and dark

4.1 Now you can start creating a palette of skin tones. Choose a shade in the picture that is darker than the main one. These will be dark areas of the skin. In the same way, you need to choose a color for the illuminated areas.

Draw facial features

5.1 Using a darker shade, we continue to draw dark areas of the face with the tool - Freehand Tool (see item 2.3.). Let's call the layers Shadow dark and shadow light

5.2 Add darker colors to the palette and work on the darkest areas, after which we move on to the details.

Adding light areas

6.1 Having finished with the shadows, move on to the light areas. Perhaps the easiest way here is to hide the shadow layers on the face so that you can better see the original in the photo. To hide the layers, click on the small eye in the left toolbar (where we create layers) next to each of them.

6.2. In order to get realistic, delicate light areas, you can not select colors by searching, but use a white fill and experiment with transparency.

Getting to the details

7.1 Let's start with the small details: let's start with the nose and eyebrows. At this stage, the face gradually becomes more realistic and closer to what we want to see.

7.2 We create each part of the face (eyebrows or nose) in different layers and after their complete completion we fix it in the right toolbar "little pencil".

Draw eyes

8.1 Draw the main elements of the eye, such as eyelashes, eye contour, pupil and iris, and fill them with colors.

8.2 The color of the white of the eye should not be bright white, so that it does not catch the eye too much, let's make it pale grayish.

8.3 To make the eyes shine, the colors must be chosen very carefully by studying them in the photograph. It is also necessary to determine in advance which details need to be slightly exaggerated compared to the original.

8.4 The brightest detail of the eye will be a small glare on the pupil.

Checking with the original

9.1 Now we copy the photo, having previously unlocked it, and paste the copy on the side of our illustration. This will help to adjust all shades of colors so that they are most successfully and harmoniously combined with each other. This can be most productively done by comparing a separately located photograph and drawing.

Draw a mouth

10.1 Work on the mouth begins with its main contour, drawn with a tool - freehand tool and filled with a suitable slightly pinkish color.

10.2 Add an intermediate shade of dark color for the upper lip and about two shades lighter for the lower one.

10.3 Draw the darkest stripe, the one where the lips close.

10.4 Create a highlight on the lips in the same way as we drew the eye. Let's add some transparency to it with the tool - Interactive Transparency Tool in the left toolbar.

Hair. Starting with color

11.1 Hair should also be drawn on a separate layer. Create their main outline with the tool freehand tool, not really going into details, paint over them with a gradient or a regular tone. This will be the main hair color.

11.2 We finish drawing small curls separately from the main mass of hair (also with a tool freehand tool.)
