What does Vadim Samoylov do? Vadim Samoilov: “I still feel like a modest provincial youth

25.06.2019

I was prompted to write this material by a school notebook filled with small children's handwriting, which I found in my apartment. An unknown 17-year-old girl from Rostov-on-Don shed tears for my ex-lover for a year. “I remember you promised to return. I still can't forget that night. You said that you love, that you have never met a girl more beautiful than me ... In front of me lies a straight razor. I circled today's date with a red felt-tip pen. If I don't hear your voice in two weeks, I will do...” - the diary broke off at these lines. Apparently, the young woman from Rostov decided to remind the idol about herself in this way, so she sent a parcel with sentimental revelations to the address of the group's fan club. The notebook got to the addressee and ... turned out to be abandoned behind the back of my sofa.
It is unlikely that I will be able to convince this and thousands of other girls, sobbing to the gloomy melodies of the Ural rock band, that none of these musicians is worth our tears. But to dispel the myth of a carefree, cloudless, happy existence next to rock stars, I hope I can do it.
His name is Vadim Samoilov. Status - rock musician. Group - "Agatha Christie".

Lantern of love from a beggar woman

In a week you are going on a business trip to the cities of Russia with musicians from the bands Bravo, Lyapis Trubetskoy, Agatha Christie, - the deputy editor-in-chief told me.
"My God! How will I communicate with these people? Drugs, alcohol, girls - that's what awaits me on this trip, ”I had no doubts ... Naturally, I didn’t even think about any novels.
It will always be so: those who love us,
They cut off our wings and put out the light.
And space takes revenge on us, takes the stars away
Where people have no way.

The first city where our train stopped was Nizhny Novgorod. The hour of the night. A press conference began in a specially equipped car. Tired, sleepy artists, who were still able to crawl to the press center, were seated at a round table. He was sitting across from me. A cloudy look, a cigarette in his teeth, long hair falling over his face - I never liked such men. But here something hooked and strong enough. We didn't even exchange a word that night. But the next morning, the first person I encountered on the platform was OH.
“Hi, my name is Ira,” I began.
- Very nice ... - he brushed his long hair from his face.
To my shame, I did not know his name. He, in turn, did not introduce himself. The group "Agatha Christie" I clearly associated with the two Samoilov brothers and with the song "I'm on you like in a war." I also remembered that one of the soloists is called Gleb. That's just who? So it took several hours to find out HIS name.
- In the evening we have a concert, be sure to come, then we'll sit somewhere, - he suggested.
However, I had an interview scheduled that day with another artist. I did not postpone the meeting for the sake of the soloist of “AK”. After the concert, Vadik Samoilov returned with a new acquaintance.
That evening, the touring people drank heavily. Everyone gathered on the platform. At midnight our train was supposed to start. There was only HIM.
- Gleb, where is Vadik? - I tried to stir up another soloist of "Agatha Christie".
“Your Vadik is fucking,” Gleb muttered.
Ten minutes before the train left, a missing rock musician showed up. The Nizhny Novgorod girl ran after him, her eyes wet with tears.
- Will we see you again? she sobbed.
Vadik did not hear her anymore.
- Where did you go, I didn't see you at the concert? I'm terribly bored, and I'm offended, - Samoilov turned to me.
Until seven in the morning we talked in a smoky vestibule.
Are you done with drugs already? I asked.
- For a long time. I haven’t taken anything for a whole year, ”he assured (although at that time he didn’t even think about getting off doping).
A few days later our train made a stop in Kazan. We walked along the Kazan Arbat, drank expensive alcoholic cocktails, and Vadik really wanted to give me a memorable gift.
"Unfortunately, there's not much to choose from," he complained.
We saw a beggar at the station. She was selling flashlights.
“This is for you,” he handed me a small lantern. - When you fall asleep without me, turn it on, and I will immediately remember you. So we can constantly maintain a kind of cosmic connection through this toy. And we will definitely celebrate the New Year together. With banal candles and a bottle of champagne...
Two weeks later, my business trip came to an end. This is the end of a beautiful romance. I left for Moscow. He is in Kemerovo. We celebrated the New Year in different companies.

How much money can go into debt, drugs and parties?

Oh, decadence, chance encounters
Table, preference, burning candles.
A record is playing on the gramophone,
Goyas sit and listen to Sting.
Splashing rum and-and-and cocaine
Yellow fingers in thin nostrils.
You propose to leave together...

The fact that show business stars bathe in money is another myth. Vadik Samoilov had a chronic shortage of funds. A stable salary - three thousand dollars plus fees from concerts (about $ 600) went to debts, drugs and parties.
The fact that rock stars of this magnitude do not have money is also confirmed by the fact that none of the musicians of Agatha Christie, during ten years of living in the capital, has been able to buy their own apartment. Vadik Samoilov sometimes could not afford to rent even a one-room apartment on the outskirts of the city. A personal car was a luxury for musicians, not a means of transportation. The second soloist of the group, Gleb Samoilov, still travels around the city by means of the Moscow subway.
Once I happened to meet the first director of the rock band "Agatha Christie" Elena Chistova.
- In fact, the whole group is seriously ill. Each of them has been through a lot. “Agatha Christie” is a real family, sick first of all with each other. Once Gleb told me such a thing: "We were lonely people, we are lonely and will remain." They were constantly in depression, which each of them relieved with alcohol and drugs. They did not notice the situation when external factors began to control them. This is the tragedy of all provincials. Although I thought they were not a province. While the guys lived in Sverdlovsk, they were normal people. As soon as they were in Moscow, relations with local producers began, fame appeared, and breaking immediately began. They felt that the capital was at their feet, that they could take off any fashion model and, in general, they could do whatever they wanted. Popularity is always a test. They couldn't stand it. Broke down. Then drugs appeared, and Vadik broke up with his wife Tanya, who for many years was his fighting devoted girlfriend. He exchanged a family with a child for an affair with a girl who was not worth even Tanya's little finger. Now the growing pains have gone a little, it has gone very hard, none of the rock and roll players have been sick so badly.
By the way, Vadim Samoilov, like no one else, considered himself a superstar. Once we were not allowed into one of the closed restaurants in Moscow.
“Young man, entry here is only by club cards,” the guard tried to explain.
- My business card is my face, - Vadim was offended.
- And who are you? - the guard was surprised.
After these words, Vadik made such a scandal that the director of the institution was forced to personally apologize to the rock star.
“They will still regret the incident, my foot will not be here anymore,” said Samoilov.
He always had such an attitude towards others. Vadim perceived any refusal “with hostility”. He could forever part with a person if he did not lend him money (he always borrowed at least $ 1,000) or did not let him stay for the night.
He often cursed at journalists who attend presentations for the sake of a “free” buffet. He himself did not miss a single such event. And if his acquaintances gathered at the club, it was a rare case when Vadim paid from his own wallet.
On March 1, in the Agatha Christie group, Alexander Kozlov, the keyboardist of the group, died of a heart attack.
- I thought that I would be the first to leave, - a familiar smoky voice was heard in the telephone receiver, and I was unpleasantly shocked by the ... jealousy that sounded in his intonations, - this is unfair, he was the best.
Then I will be surprised more than once how Vadim easily put himself on the same level with musicians whose fame has already been tested by time. “Do you want to marry me? he exclaimed. “Do you want to be like Nastya Bashlacheva when I also go nowhere?” Samoilov even chose a date for his death - the day after the planned receipt of the Ovation award, he was going to commit suicide and kept telling me about it, rolling his eyes tragically, for a whole month.

“I swear I will never hurt you again”

I'm on you like in a war
And in the war, as on you,
But I'm tired, the fight is over
I take port wine, I go home.
The battle is over, the fire has withered,
And there's nothing left...

Our love relationship resumed as unexpectedly as it ended. I had a birthday. Vadik was on tour in St. Petersburg. At seven in the morning the phone rang in my apartment. On the threshold stood a young man with a huge bouquet of roses. “This is from Vadim,” he said.
Then there were pretentious restaurants, expensive perfumes, stupid plush toys that could hardly fit in my apartment, endless declarations of love ...
One day he came to me with a bouquet of white wedding callas.
"Then, on the train, I couldn't afford to stay with you, I was sitting on... well, I had no right to deceive you," he declared. Now I need someone I can trust. I feel really bad right now... and lonely... I swear I'll never hurt you again.
Why did I believe him? Apparently, she bought into a stingy male tear on his cheek. Then I did not know yet that Vadik likes to cry much more often than any girl. And not always his tears are sincere.
“Listen,” he remarked after a while, “maybe I can stay with you? We will be together all the time, and there will be no need to rent an apartment!” A week later he moved his things. Together with the Samoilovs, the corresponding color of a rock musician came to my house - a collection of foreign rock discs, a home theater with huge speakers, phone calls with female voices, an incredible amount of alcohol, a constant lack of money and a depressive mood.
- Let's celebrate our first day in a special way, - suggested Vadik and put on the film "Doors". - Let's live tonight according to the script of this film.
It was a strange feeling that was not limited to one night. All our further communication has become a copy of the story of Jimmy Morrison. Vadik always dreamed of being like him.
- I really want to die young, like Jim Morrison, I probably don’t even have to do anything for this. I feel that I have very little left ... - he constantly repeated.
The first depressive breakdown in the leader of "Agatha Christie" happened a week later. It was a month of rehabilitation after long-term use of hard drugs. Daily Vadik consumed a dozen tablets, washing down the medicine with alcohol. But liquor did not produce the effect that usually came after a dose of white powder. Once, after drinking half a liter of vodka, Samoilov began to destroy furniture and shout:
- Why are you silent? Or do you like what I do? So know that I don't love you! Can't you see, I just don't have a place to live, so I moved in with you. I used you!
That day he left. That same night, on the phone, I heard: “Hi, why are you so unhappy?”
"Don't you remember what you said to me before leaving?" - Hearing his unflappable voice, I just couldn't believe my ears!
“Yes, I didn’t say anything at all,” genuine surprise was felt in his voice.
I repeated his words. After a short pause, he said in a trembling voice:
- I am a sick person, I often have breakdowns. Get used to it... And in general, I specifically said so, don't you understand? I decided that you would be better off without me, and if I leave like this, slamming the door, and you will think that I am the last bastard, it will be easier for you to forget me. But I did not calculate the strength of my love for you, I cannot live without you!
“The devil knows,” I thought, not yet devastated by his constant lies, “what if this is true?” And I forgave.
Then a strange relationship developed between us. Vadik often disappeared. For a long time. He could not come, not call for a week. Sometimes the director of "Agatha Christie" cut off my phone in search of a soloist ten minutes before the start of the next concert. Usually the performance of the group was postponed for an hour and a half. The same situation developed with tours. Because of Vadim, the departure of the plane or train was delayed.
Once Vadik Samoilov prepared the soundtrack for the film by Sergei Bodrov "Sisters". And he did it in a completely empty apartment (the owners moved out of town) and all alone.
- Kid, I'm sorry, earned, - he called a few days later. - I've been out of cigarettes for a long time. Please bring something to drink and eat.
When I entered the apartment, Vadik was sitting on the floor at the computer. The white wallpaper was splattered with scarlet paint. “We are leaving here, tired of sleeping on the floor and starving,” he said that day. What he did in this apartment with wallpaper, I never found out. The soundtrack came out very late.

"Are you ready? Let's die together!"

Kill me, kill yourself
You won't change a thing
This fairy tale has no end
You won't change anything.

- When will I finally die, - this is how the morning of a rock musician usually began.
“Vadik's psyche is severely undermined. Several years of drug intoxication did not pass without a trace, - I slowly but surely "seeed the light". He never hides his emotions. It feels like he lacks adrenaline. He's crazy - he talks about death all the time."
I still remember our trip to a boarding house near Moscow, where another quarrel took place. I slammed the door and ran out into the street.
- Detain this girl, - he shouted to the guards of the boarding house from the window.
On the way to the bus stop, his black Audi screeched to a halt in front of me.
“Never do that, I’m not a boy anymore, it’s hard for me to go through such stresses,” Vadik yelled and forced me into the car.
We set off. He pressed the gas pedal to the floor. When the speedometer needle went off scale for 150, Vadik abruptly pressed the brakes. The car went into a ditch.
- This is how I “broke off” from the traffic cops, and hid in this ravine, - he calmly commented on his act.
He could rush along the oncoming lane at a speed of 250 km per hour and shout: “Well, are you ready? Let's die together!"
Once we listened to Vyacheslav Butusov's song "Lonely Bird".
- It's about me, - said Vadik.
“Lonely bird, you fly high...// And only a madman was able to fall in love like that...// Rise after you,// And crash together with you...” - was heard from the speakers.
- Shall we prove our love to each other? He grabbed my arm and pulled me to the balcony. - Let's jump together.
Vadik stood on the railing of the balcony. I looked down. Eighth floor. She turned her gaze to Samoilov. Another music was coming from the room. "I don't love you, I don't love you..." - the words of the new song "Agatha Christie". At that moment, something twitched in my mind.
- If you want, jump alone, I'm leaving, - I snapped.
He silently climbed down from the balcony and sighed, “I knew it, you never loved me. I was an expensive toy in your hands.”
“But he’s right,” I thought somehow indifferently. My God, how much time and effort had to be spent on it in order to finally understand how useless it was killed. Killed by an imaginary love affair with a famous person.
By inertia, I still hoped that everything could be fixed. In addition, my mother, who rarely admires my young people, was fascinated by Vadik at first sight.
“It’s immediately obvious that he’s an adult, a decent person,” she repeated to me.
However, the modesty and decency of this man immediately disappeared outside my parents' apartment.
Vadim Samoilov, with his feigned charm, could make a favorable impression on anyone he met, and many girls jumped into his bed without even thinking.
- You have a good choice, - employees of the Rice-Lees's company shared with me, with whom the Ural rock group worked. - All our women's team liked Vadik, many tried to have an affair with him, but everything was limited to bed ...
And he quite unexpectedly, at the suggestion of Kostya Kinchev, became interested in religion. Being unbaptized, Vadik began to attend church services every morning, talked for hours with priests, and surrounded himself with religious literature. And for me every day his presence became more and more unbearable. In the end, we came to the same conclusion - it's time to leave.
- Can I live here for a while, I have nowhere to go, I have no money at all, - he cried.
We were sitting in the kitchen. We drank cheap port wine.
“You didn’t understand anything, I don’t know how to prove to you that I had sincere feelings for you, if you want, I’ll burn my shirt,” Vadik began.
- I don't care, - then I already learned to react indifferently to such statements.
I did not have time to gasp when the sleeve of an expensive silk shirt flared up on Vadik. Samoilov began to beat down the flames with his hands and received minor burns.
- I see it's not enough for you? - he flared up like a match, noticing my indifference, and brought the lighter to his hair.
A good half of the hair burned in a matter of seconds.
- Aren't you scared for me? Doesn't it hurt? - shouted Vadik. The final chord of the evening was a computer thrown out of the window.
The next day, late in the evening, Vadik called me on my cell:
- Irish, I feel bad, could you not come home for two hours until I put myself in order?
Women's intuition failed me that day. I was up to my ears with work and easily agreed to his request. Almost immediately, another call rang out:
- I just saw Samoilov, he came into your apartment with some blonde, - the neighbor rapped into the phone.
In order not to force people to rush around the apartment in what my mother gave birth to, I called from below from the intercom.
- Vadik, I know that a woman is with you. Both of you better leave.
“You don’t understand anything,” he was still embarrassed, “it’s just my classmate!” She came from my hometown, we haven't seen each other for so many years!
Then everything happened like in a cheap movie. A “classmate”, who went to kindergarten at most when Vadik was already finishing school, asked with a tremble in her voice: “Where do electric trains go here?”
- You to Sverdlovsk? I asked politely.
“I instructed her on the true path, look what sad eyes she has, she cannot break with drugs,” Samoilov justified.
The next day he again brought me a basket of flowers...
Last fall, we finally broke up. Forever this time. He left and left nothing behind - no joint photographs, no flowers, no pleasant memories. And the other day in the mailbox I found a notice for twenty-seven thousand rubles, which Vadim Samoilov spoke on the phone during my absence ...
Recently, in one of the capital's newspapers, I came across a headline: "Vadim Samoilov changes blondes." The material ended with the words: "One of Vadim's recent girlfriends, after talking with him, was forced to seek help from a psychiatrist and is now undergoing treatment in one of the specialized clinics."
It's not about me.

Vadim Samoilov is the founder of the cult musical group and its sound producer, rock singer, composer and poet.

Musician Vadim Samoilov, the eldest of two famous brothers, was born on October 3, 1964 in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg). The father of the future star worked as an engineer, and his mother worked as a doctor. The difference with his brother (born in 1970) is 6 years. Later, the parents moved to Asbest (Sverdlovsk region).

In one interview, Vadim calls himself a "musician by vocation", not imagining life without music. As a result, she becomes the most important for him. Samoilov does not like to remember childhood years. It is known that leadership abilities, along with musical ones, manifested themselves in kindergarten, where he invariably acted as the organizer of games.

As for music, Vadim fell in love with her at an early age. The boy loved to sing and listen to melodies. He picked up his first song at the age of 5 on the piano while visiting. It was a melody from the movie "Property of the Republic".

At the age of 7, at the insistence of his mother, he entered a music school. There he was best given solfeggio, and he disliked subjects like “musical literature” for their edification.

Vadim began to create his own music while studying in the third grade, something meaningful appeared in the fifth or sixth. In the same period, he met Sasha Kozlov, played in an ensemble and rehearsed in the Komsomol committee. The memory of that period is captured in the song "Hurricane". Foreign hits were also recorded in English, for example, etc. The future musician has never been a fan of English rock and roll. Of the favorite groups, it should be noted "Urfin Juice" and.

Vadim Samoilov graduated from the Ural Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Design and Production of Radio Equipment. The knowledge gained was useful more than once in the future at the recording studio. Since 1983, he has been acting as a fighter of the MTR "Impulse".

In 1983-1986 he became a laureate of festivals dedicated to amateur song. In 1986–1987 he performed songs as part of KVN.

Music

Vadim Samoilov is known primarily as one of the founders, producers and musicians of the famous Agatha Christie group. Its beginning was the creation of the group VIA "RTF-UPI" in 1985 for student performances. The team was founded by Vadim Samoilov, Alexander Kozlov and Peter May. Having fulfilled its original purpose, it did not fall apart. This was the first step towards the creation of the modern Agatha Christie.

In 1987, Vadim invites his younger brother Gleb to the Agatha Christie group. He himself becomes a permanent member of the team, performing numerous functions in it: vocalist, sound engineer, arranger, sound producer, composer. The development and popularity of the group is largely his merit.

The main goal of Vadim Samoilov and the group was to "play their own music." The enthusiasm of the audience helped to restore and continue the activities of the group: “Come on, come on!”. "Agatha Christie" was afraid to become another fashionable group for one season. All forces were thrown at the recording of the album "Hurricane" (1996), it was necessary to "turn inside out".

The team, which has existed for over 20 years, managed to release 10 albums, 5 collections and 18 clips. The first wave of popularity caused fear. Many accused the members of the group of using narcotic allusions (hints). And the lines were interpreted by the audience in different ways. But this special worldview was to Vadim's liking.

The peak of popularity came with Agatha Christie in the 1990s. The golden composition of the Agatha Christie group is Agatha with the participation of the Samoilov brothers, Alexander Kozlov and Andrey Kotov (1990–2001). Over time, Gleb Samoilov began to write lyrics for songs more.

Despite the termination of the activities of the Agatha Christie group, the number of its fans is not decreasing. Listeners of the radio station "Our Radio" included 5 hits of the group in the Top 100 best songs of Russian rock.

In 2006, Vadim Samoilov created the "Hero of Our Time" charity project to help young musicians. Since 2007, a new round of Samoilov's biography begins, the musician becomes a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and fights the problem of plagiarism and piracy. Acts as a member of the Authors' Council of the Russian Authors' Society.

In 2012, he was officially registered as a trustee who claimed the presidency.

The scandalous lawsuit of Samoilov in the amount of 1 million rubles against a music critic for compensation for non-pecuniary damage is indicative. The reason for the conflict was a journalist’s quote from the film on REN TV “Notes of Protest” that the musician is nothing more than “a trained poodle under Surkov”, a politician and the author of “sovereign democracy”, who simply set the official’s poems to music. The lawsuit was dismissed and then reopened.

Along with the Agatha Christie group, Samoilov participates in other projects. In 1994, he acts as an arranger for the Titanic album by the Nautilus Pompilius and. Samoilov Sr. produces popular rock bands, for example, Semantic Hallucinations, and solo artists, including.

Performance by Vadim Samoilov and the group "Piknik" - "Violet-Black"

In 2004, a joint album by Vadim Samoilov and the group was released. He wrote the soundtrack for the movie "It doesn't hurt me" with the title role. In 2010, Vadim appeared at the “Songs for Alla” concert, where he sang the hit “Tell me, birds” together with him.

The solo album of Samoilov Sr. was released in 2003 and was called "Peninsula". Since 2006, fans have had the opportunity to listen to "Peninsula-2". Vadim tried his hand as a radio host. The musician became the voice of the Rocklab on Nashe program.

Performance by Vadim Samoilov and Masha Makarova "Tell me, birds"

In 2015, Vadim Samoilov visited Donbass with concerts, and soon visited Syria. Gleb Samoilov, whose political views do not coincide with his brother's preferences, was outraged by the use of his name (it was also indicated) on concert posters. In addition, after the "nostalgic" tour, Vadim did not pay part of the money that was due to Gleb. A quarrel broke out between the brothers, which finally spoiled the relationship between them. Due to financial disagreements, the court sided with Gleb, but when he demanded from Vadim through the court not to use the songs in solo concerts, the authorship of which belonged to him, the judge rejected the petition.

An interview with Gleb appeared in the media, where he expressed outrage at the fact that his songs are heard at pro-Kremlin events. In response, Vadim promised to sue his brother for calls for extremism, which, in his opinion, are heard in the songs of the Gleb Samoilov group. Such an accusation threatened the younger brother with a real term. To reconcile the sons, their mother posted a video message on the Internet.

In November 2016, Vadim Samoilov presented on the social network "

Former members of Agatha Christie, which broke up six years ago, Gleb and Vadim Samoilov, find out in court which of them has the right to the group's songs. Today, the Savelovsky Court of Moscow satisfied the claim of Gleb, recovering 4.3 million rubles from his brother. True, this trial did not concern music. It was about the old debt of one brother to another. Life recalls how rock legends went from joint concerts to court battles.

The Samoilov brothers never hid the fact that there were many crises in their Agatha Christie group. But things have not yet gone so far: the musicians are suing because of the songs, Vadim accuses Gleb of extremism, and Samoilov Jr. demands to initiate a criminal case against his brother under the article "Violation of copyright and related rights" and forbid him to perform 172 songs.

The history of Agatha Christie began in 1985, when Vadim Samoilov, together with former classmates Alexander Kozlov and Petr May, founded the VIA RTF UPI team. In the 88th Gleb Samoilov came, and the group's popularity began to gain momentum. Together they lasted 22 years - all this time the conflicts somehow managed to be smoothed out, but in 2010 the group ceased to exist. The brothers explained their decision by the fact that they no longer "resonate" and "the paths of life already diverge very much."

He has a different temperament. I am a sanguine person, and he is a melancholic, sometimes choleric. nature is hysterical. We are even astrologically complete antipodes.<...>Gleb and I basically never talked. We only talked when there was a reason. But it's typical for me.

Vadim Samoilov

Gleb Samoilov "borrowed" several songs

The first album "Second Front", which has music and several texts by Gleb, was recorded in the 88th without his participation. In an interview, he said that the guys simply didn’t have enough songs for a full-fledged record, he was asked to help, and then "I had to sing and play the guitar." A year later, "Deceit and Love" was released, for the texts and music of which Vadim was also mainly responsible. Starting with "Decadence", released in 1991, Gleb Samoilov began to write texts.

The musicians flew from the fabulous taiga straight into the stratosphere after the Shameful Star album, when Gleb stopped hiding trump cards in his sleeves and began to bombard with hits. Back in the 90s, he recorded a solo album and wanted to go solo, but somehow it didn’t work out. Initially, he kept the song "Like at War", which became the hallmark of the group, for himself, but in the end he decided to give it life as part of the Agatha Christie project. The text about the experiences of first love was written a long time ago, and the melody developed very quickly: in the studio he went over four strings, and then everything came together by itself. Just as easily, "I'll be there" appeared, with which he hesitantly came to the rehearsal. As a result, the group ended their concerts with this song for many years.

I always considered myself tongue-tied and somehow even shy of my poems. First, I did not read as much as a child, as I would have liked to. Now I can not fill this gap. Secondly, no doubt, Gleb is a great poet. I don't want to compete with him, I trust him. In some cases, of course, I write something, but Gleb then remakes my edition beyond recognition

Vadim Samoilov

Bombed! Depression from resounding success

Then it bombed so that the musicians themselves became scared. Gleb began to play decadence and paint his lips with shoe polish. Released in 1995, "Opium" made them stars and was named the best-selling album in Russia, for which the group received an award at the World Music Awards in Monaco. The resounding success led to the fact that the life of the group members became no less surreal than the texts of Samoilov Jr. They themselves were not delighted with the incomprehensible people who appeared around, the attention and the whirlpool in which they famously twisted. Gleb Samoilov, who previously could not boast of an even positive attitude in life, began to suffer from panic attacks and anxiety-depressive conditions.

Crazy popularity, according to Samoilov, "hit him in the head", but suffering only helped ("when I feel good, I don't write songs"). All texts and almost all music for the next four discs of Agatha Christie were written by Gleb. He began to perform almost all the songs.

I don't think this record is great. Yes, we became famous with this disc, but after the tour in support of it and this frenzied popularity, I got hit in the head. Panic attacks, anxiety-depressive state and everything else that has been going on with me for the past twenty years

Gleb Samoilov

The end of "Agatha Christie" and Gleb Samoilov's group The MATRIXX

The fact that the team had exhausted itself was announced by the Samoilov brothers in 2009, they recorded the album "Epilogue" for two, traveled with concerts throughout the country, agreed not to perform the songs of the no longer existing "Agatha Christie" separately and parted. Vadim then did not rule out that in the future they could reunite, Gleb was more categorical and said that he was glad to finally become free and do only what he likes, inside and out. In many ways, he was influenced by the death of a close friend, poet and lyricist of the group "Nautilus Pompilius" Ilya Kormiltsev, who died in 2007: "I realized that you need to say what you think. Before it's too late."

Gleb created the group The MATRIXX, with which he sings only new material. The only composition of "Agatha Christie", which he, by agreement of the brothers, can perform as part of another project, is Ilya Kormiltsev's favorite song "Tore the Dream", which Gleb decided to dedicate to him.

Nostalgic concerts and the beginning of the scandal

An ugly story with litigation and a biblical story about a brother who turned on his brother began last year when Vadim persuaded Gleb to take part in nostalgic concerts with the performance of hits by Agatha Christie. The tension grew, the musicians' views on creativity and many other things became too different. As a result, Gleb generally regretted that he had taken part in this whole story, in several interviews he stated that he definitely did not feel nostalgia, and refused further performances.

This did not stop Vadim Samoilov, and he continued the Agatha Christie. All Hits tour, which surprised his brother very much. According to Samoilov Jr., he did not expect that his songs would be performed without his participation. Apparently, . Began or does not owe money, who has more rights and other gloom and decadence. It got to the point that TV presenter Andrei Malakhov, who traditionally gathered participants in a high-profile public scandal in his studio, was also noted in all this.

If Vadim is a co-author of Gleb's songs, he will have to prove it in court. Evidence can be studio recordings, recordings of the first public performances, musical expertise. And those songs that are included in the register as written by brothers in co-authorship, any of them can perform freely

Politics, threats and courts

Even more unpleasant clarifications were added to the disassembly of copyright. The Samoilovs never hid that they had been using drugs for a long time. However, later they assured that the rumors about their infernality, mountains of cocaine and other things were greatly exaggerated. Vadim generally began to participate in actions against drugs. Gleb said that health no longer allows him to use illegal substances, but alcohol continues to help cope with the "hellish emptiness inside" and "thrust for decadence." There were interviews while drunk, and treatment in one of the clinics ... Samoilov Sr. now calls the inadequacy of his brother as the main argument in favor of his innocence and declares that his claims and words cannot be taken seriously.

Gleb Samoilov told Life that he no longer requires money for concerts, but wants to ban singing his songs and thereby violate his copyright. The musician is also not satisfied with the fact that Vadim Samoilov openly supports the official government, takes part in political actions, performs in the Donbass and Crimea. Gleb himself, who used to go to opposition rallies, calls himself an apolitical and, above all, a free man. And he does not understand why the group, of which he was once a part, and the compositions he wrote should now be connected with something that is not at all close to him.

My brother does not go to the concerts of my group, I think, and does not listen to our music. We now have different lives. He is rich - I am poor, he is smart - I am stupid, he is good - I am goth, he is at one with the authorities - and I pass

Gleb Samoilov

One of the drummers of Agatha Christie, Andrei Kotov, commented on the breakup of the group in a very topical way: “I am terribly offended that what we did was much higher and cleaner than ourselves. Agatha Christie had its own legend and its own mysticism. But it turned out that inside this mysterious world everything is much simpler than it seems. People turned out to be people."

Epilogue

You can argue about which of the Samoilov brothers did more for the group, arrange examinations and sue. The bottom line is that the guys really made one of the coolest Russian groups in which they existed together for more than 20 years and really left a mark on history.

Vadim Samoilov, who used to be a producer, manager and a serious guy, has matured, engaged in social and political activities, and Gleb sings about blood and zombies in The MATRIXX, continues to play decadence, shock and is not going to fall under someone's flags. It turns out a story about an older brother who himself will decide everything for the younger, because what to take from him, the fool. When the roads diverge, one should probably be able to put an end to it and not drag the past along with oneself. Gleb Samoilov has long suggested leaving "Agatha Christie" alone - it was, it was cool, the songs remained, there is no nostalgia. Vadim Samoilov himself is really not "Agatha Christie", but an individual musician, as Gleb's lawyer said, who deserves to be listened to.

The fact is that only the Agatha Christie group has the right to perform works authored by my client. Vadim Samoilov is not "Agatha Christie", this is a separate musician who illegally uses someone else's authorship. Vadim Samoilov promised that if Gleb did not stop, he would ruin his career. In particular, he initiates criminal prosecution for allegedly calling for extremism in songs performed by Gleb as part of the new group The MATRIXX. These threats served as another reason to appeal to the investigating authorities.

lawyer Gleb Samoilov Alisa Obraztsova

The Savelovsky Court of Moscow will consider Gleb Samoilov's lawsuit against his brother for a ban on performing his songs written for Agatha Christie on September 21.

Cosmopolitan-Ural. June 2003

Composing sinister and beautiful tales is their part. Clown martyrs and hearts with a stone bottom are the characters and attributes of their piercingly nervous songs. Having grown up on the gloomy texts of German romantics, they became the youngest legend of Russian rock. Most of this year, Vadim and Gleb Samoilov spend in the halls with the same full house - in the all-Russian tour to the fifteenth anniversary of the group "Agatha Christie".

VADIM

Can you describe in a few words the difference between the Samoilov brothers?

Gleb is certainly a poet and lyricist. I have more physics. This is a normal complement, I think, otherwise we would not have been able to live in the same team for so many years.

Do you remember when you saw Gleb for the first time in your life?

Of course: in the window of the maternity hospital! As expected, standing next to dad and waving flowers. We were shown him from the window, small and already screaming.

Did you get along well as a child?

We lived together. Although I remember more than childhood, my growing up and his childhood-adolescence, his victories and impressions from life, mine ... We developed in parallel, shared everything. There was a time, until I entered the institute, they listened and watched the same thing. And to read, like Glebka, avidly, I did not learn. There are books that catch on right away, then I read them from cover to cover, and they become my favorite.

What is brother to you? Support? Friend?

I'm probably going to say a very serious thing, but ... I'll tear anyone for him. He is truly a true friend to me. The fact that we are brothers is from the category of such obligatory things as family, mother. But I still really want to share everything that happens with him. And, paradoxically, similar events happen to us, as if we are encoded in some way.

What is your relationship with your daughter?

When my father and mother divorced, I swore that my child would have both a father and a mother. But fate throws us tests that we can’t always cope with, they say, don’t promise ... Whatever they write about me, no matter what rumors go, dad is always alone for a child, dad is always good.

Should parents do anything special for their children?

I want to get all the warmest and best of myself and leave it to my daughter. The element of tenderness, of course, is present. (Smiles.) When I hear “daddy”, I become like a weakling, like a cat on a radiator, I spread ... I believe that the whole supply of love that a person has should be provided to the child. Because love for a woman is one thing, but for a child is quite another. It is this love that moves the Sun, because the child is an extension of you. When they say “daddy's money”, meaning Alsou, Gubin, Linda ... Yes, thank God that dad helped! I am completely calm about this. I have not yet done everything for my daughter and I hope that I will succeed in everything that I want to do.

Love for a child is love-care. And to a woman?

I would say enlightenment. You are looking for, no matter how trite it sounds, your half, a person with whom everything coincides. During my life, I probably got lucky, or unlucky, I don’t know how to talk about it, I met several women with whom there were more and more coincidences. And now I met a man with whom everything coincides in general. This is probably the greatest happiness, some kind of purification of the soul, the strongest shake-up.

Do you often meet good people?

Kostya Kinchev once told me that God scatters miracles everywhere and you need to be ready to see these sparks. In this sense, I've been meeting quite a lot of good people along the way lately. Maybe it's because I've been burned many times and intuitively weed out communication with someone. I remember that there are many people who want to be proud of me: friends, acquaintances, colleagues, partners, daughter, spouse, many people.

And where is the mother among those listed?

Mom is a separate person, she had a very hard time with us. He lives three lives at the same time: his, mine and Glebkin. I can't imagine how she takes it all. We always treated her well, but now Gleb and I have grown up already, apparently, to take care of our mom for real. We really want this.

What made Agatha Christie leave for Moscow?

I had to go to get through. Then there was no developed show business. Unlike CHAIF, we were not lucky with a person who would take care of our affairs in Moscow, and we had to do everything ourselves. Although I sincerely still wonder why the businessmen of the most talented Ural region can't keep up with the fact that a lot of young interesting bands are getting out of their hands? “Sahara” has left, “Moscow-Luna” and “Semantic hallucinations” live here, but the clips are also filmed in the capital. But we have an excellent base for filming, is it really too lazy to think a little? Here everyone is very isolated, comrades with limited liability are like that ... I don’t understand this from the bottom of my heart.

You seem to be persuading me not to leave for the capital ...

It seems to me that the most painful thing for a person is being cut off from the roots. You can not pull out a person, not everyone can stand it. In order to represent my Motherland, I need to imagine a distance of 2000 km, Asbest, Sverdlovsk and Moscow. I envy Kostya Kinchev when he shows me the school where he studied, the house where he lived with his grandmother, the garden from which he stole something ... A person should live like that, it is dangerous to pull him apart. Although, if we didn’t have this isolation, then there wouldn’t be such an anguish in the songs.

A difficult and painful question. It would be intimate, I think, if it were not for the scale of the spread of drugs in our country ...

God forbid you even try. I saw people with great willpower who simply broke down under their influence. “I'll just try, there are people who have tried and they managed to quit” - this is the biggest deception. Units survive. This is a huge, completely diabolical world that sucks, replacing your life with itself. And it happens very imperceptibly. You lose EVERYTHING, from personality to those who love you. And even the most beloved people who will stay with you, you will torment to the last. And it all ends with either a prison or a grave.

Sometimes people judge others by their own...

I've learned not to give in. I had two wins. I learned to say no and stand up for what I have inside. Or sharply, or democratically. Including fights.

How long has it been since you last fought?

Six months ago in Khanty-Mansiysk.

A heavily drunk, very famous young actor called me and my brother in a government office a bad word. I warned that I would not hit him in the face, because he works for him, and offered to apologize while I counted to three. Didn't apologize - got it. Oh no, it wasn't the last time! At a concert in Gorbushka, he succumbed to a photographer who was selling pirated photographs of a performing group. I am very bad at piracy. Since the time of our concert in “Cosmos”, when the photographer offered to take pictures, and the next day, at our second concert, he sold these photographs. I do not advise anyone who is involved in piracy to date me. No matter how many of you there are, even the first of the crowd, I will knock out all your teeth.

Were you naughty as a child?

As children, we were not bullies. Now let's catch up. (Laughs.) We were like that in childhood ... we lived with beautiful sunrises, sunsets ... Our apartment was on one side to the East, the other to the West. We hung between fairy tales, read books, listened to songs, lived, rather, in the inner world. We are grateful to our parents for giving us this opportunity. The first gifts we bought were: Okudzhava's record for my mother, Vysotsky's for my father. Parents - an engineer and a doctor - had nothing to do with the creative environment, however, gatherings always gathered at our house, they talked, sang about the grape seed, it was so heartfelt ... Or when dad sang along with “Cavalier Guard for a short time”, it inserted me, Honestly.

Who would you like to be in the Book of Eternity if you were?

Still, may all those who love me and all those whom I love forgive me, let it be written “Samoilov Vadim, “Agatha Christie” there.

GLEB

What is your first memory of Vadim?

I remember very well how Vadik was saved up for jeans. They saved up for so long, everyone was so worried, and when these jeans were bought for Vadik, I was so proud, as if they were bought for me. Since then, it has continued like this: when Vadik writes something good, I rejoice, as if I did it myself. No matter how we quarrel, no matter what grievances there may be between us, pride in each other is above all. He also took me to kindergarten on a sled.

A brother in your life - support, support, something else?

This is a given. Subjective reality given to me as a sensation. (Laughs.) We have always had a big family - dad, mom, Vadik, me, grandmother with us. I can't imagine anyone else. You need to ask Vadik this, maybe he remembers how he lived for six years without me.
(Vadim, smiling: “I missed you terribly!”)

He remembers how he saw you in the hospital ...

Ah, I know the story! And I know how he chose my name.

Tell!

Vadik categorically insisted that they call me Pupsik. Papa offered to call me Gleb, which, by the way, corresponds to the Orthodox calendar. As a result, lots were cast. They threw papers with names into the hat, and they entrusted dad to keep the hat. They took out a piece of paper with the name Gleb. Then it turned out that this was written on all the pieces of paper. Dad was smart. But he gave the correct name. And so I would be Pupsik.

Great name for a rock star!

Yes, Vadim and Pupsik Samoilov are the legends of Russian rock!

Not hard? At this age - and a legend?

Unclear. A legend means something that is already in the past, you understand? It's sad to be called a legend at 32. On the other hand, at this age, you can start a lot anew, you know? And a new life, and love, and quit drinking - everything is possible. And on stage feel even better than at 17 years old.

What did you start new at 32?

I started writing songs that I haven't written since I was 30. I haven't written a single song in two years. The last one was for Seryozha Bodrov to "Sisters".

Why such a long silence?

First of all - with the death of Sasha. (Alexander Kozlov, drummer of Agatha Christie. - Ed.) With desolation inside. Sasha's death seemed to draw a line. Then, a very painful separation from the family. My wife and I couldn't live with each other. I tried to endure all this as best I could, only because I understood that there is Glebushka. And as long as he has a mom and dad, he has a house, he will be a full-fledged and happy child. But the situation became so difficult that we could not categorically stay together. And I left my family.

What did you manage to do good for your son during his six-year life?

I have done infinitely little for him. I'm a disgusting father. To begin with, for almost his entire conscious life I was in various unconscious states. I understand that it was hard for my wife to endure me like that. When I returned to reality, it was already too late to change anything, we were already completely far from each other. Besides the fact that I kept them and simply loved them, I gave him nothing. I am also from an incomplete family, dad and mom separated when I was 12. And dad is when he is here all the time. Dad, who appears and disappears, brings money and leaves, plays, takes him to visit him for a day, for two - this is no longer dad.

Do you still want kids?

Don't know. I am not going to have a new child in order to realize love for the lost one in a relationship with him. I love him, he is the one and only for me. If there is another child, then he will be exactly the same for me. Then both of them will be my only ones.

Do you feel comfortable in your life right now?

In a period of some kind of hopelessness and depression, I instinctively wanted to return to childhood. Territorially. Asbestos, for example. But I am aware that this is not a yearning for childhood, but simply for happiness. I wanted to be happy, and happiness was associated with what happened in childhood: mom, dad, Vadik, Asbest, the sun, we watch TV or watch from the balcony how the sun sets behind a forest that looks like an ocean ... That was happiness, and about this was most often thought during the depression period. But not now. Now, on the contrary, I want to see what will happen next ... At one time I was a very political person. He collaborated a lot with various patriotic circles and publications. There are many smart good people there, but as far as politics is concerned, all these major parties do not differ from each other in the long run, because the goals of all are the same: power and money, that is, something that my non-economic mind is hard to understand. These are all Big People's games, and I don't understand anything about them. So I'd rather write songs.

Why did you move to Moscow?

We didn't have a producer. And we have the audacity to believe that no one better than ourselves can be our producer. Therefore, I had to keep everything in my hands and, of course, live in Moscow. We first exchanged Asbest for Sverdlovsk, then Yekaterinburg for Moscow. At the same time, we believe that we have not lost our homeland. Especially after a huge number of tours around the country and abroad. Asbestos for us is the city of childhood, Sverdlovsk is the city of youth. Moscow is the city where we now live.

How does your mother react to everything that happens to you?

Worries. Lives completely. He lives three lives - his own, Vadik's and mine. I am proud of her and fear for her.

How do you keep memories of your childhood? Did you write diaries?

All my best songs, the best for me, are memories of my childhood. My first fantasies are connected with childhood. Not those fantasies of how I would be an astronaut, a racer, a policeman or a firefighter, but dreams of flying. This is perhaps the most obsessive theme in Agatha Christie - the sky, flights ...

Why flights?

I don’t know, all the children probably want to fly ... But I still want to.

Haven't you tried?

Tried. Hang glider - great, but not the same!

Medical researchers say that love is a set of hormones that affect the human body in a special way. Someone is hiding behind hormones, and how do you explain this?

I can't explain it in any way. We have known each other for a long time with the girl with whom I now live. Once again, I saw her when my family was already destroyed, and suddenly something jumped in my head. It's like a puzzle has come together: the last missing piece has fallen into place. And I thought: Lord, why am I rushing about? .. After all, here it is! And two years already I understand that I was not mistaken then. God has given us enough trials. So much so that we could understand that we love each other, but do not tolerate.

Music, love… What else is present in your life?

Love, then music. These are my human weaknesses. There is also faith. It stands completely separate. Although every time I doubt it. Every time I demand an account from myself, whether I believe honestly or not, and I understand that I cannot give it in full.

What does it mean to you to be a musician?

First of all - self-expression and self-affirmation. Justifying one's existence as a creative person. I have always wanted to be creative. These are purely selfish motives. I do not seek to remake the World with the help of my songs.
