Lex Luthor: So if a man can't kill a god, the devil will!
For some time I hesitated whether to write a separate review about Luthor "Batman v Superman"(by no means the best, in my opinion, version of the image), and in the end I decided to make the task more interesting. Because the Lex Snider And Eisenberg boasts the same red hair that the character had in his very first comics, I'll first take a look at these early stories of the famous villain, then talk about some of the other red Luthors, and only then move on to the latest cinematic incarnation.
The insidious criminal made his debut in “Adventure comics. No. 23” (“Europe at War. Part II”; April 1940), in the second part of the plot about the war between the European states of Galonia and Thoran. After an explosion destroys a peaceful delegation that arrived in Galonia from Toran, Clark Kent, sent there as a war correspondent, begins to suspect the Galonian general Lupo. Wearing a Superman costume, he sees Lupo heading into a mysterious cave and decides to interrogate him. However, as soon as the general mentions the name of the mysterious Luthor, who wants to draw the entire continent into the war, a green beam cuts it in half, after which the cave collapses. Clark tries to convince the representatives of both countries that they are being manipulated by a madman, but no one believes him. However, the red-haired Luthor, in his airship high in the stratosphere, decides that the journalist knows too much and tells his bald assistant to eliminate Kent. Instead of Clark, Lois Lane is brought to him. The journalist learns that the villain uses hypnosis on his henchmen, but this does not work on the bald man, and he is persuaded to convey a message to Kent. Reaching the airship, the Man of Steel comes face to face with the redhead, 
who, in the best supervillain traditions, shares his plan with him: to weaken the country by war, to seize power over them, and then over the whole world. He tries to destroy the hero with green rays that deprive him of his powers, but Superman destroys his car, drops the airship to the ground and is convinced that the enemy died in the explosion. Well, in those days, the defenders of good obviously took such things easier ...
IN “Superman. No. 4” (“Challenge of Luthor”; spring 1940) the villain returns, targeting a new earthquake-causing weapon. He kidnaps the author of this invention, Professor Martinson, and when he refuses to cooperate, he challenges the Kryptonian: if his superpowers surpass Luthor's scientific genius, he will abandon his plans, if not, the hero will not interfere with him. Superman easily emerges victorious in all competitions: he flies both faster and higher than the superplanes created by the redhead, lifts a huge boulder, withstands both a grenade and a cannon projectile, etc. Recognizing defeat, the criminal frees the professor. However, it soon turns out that while Steel Man was competing with Luthor, the latter's assistants stole the weapons, and now he threatens to destroy the city with earthquakes. Red uses the invention against Superman, unsuccessfully trying to bury him alive, and manages to escape before the moment when the fighter with evil crawls out of the ground.
In another story from the same issue, "Luthor's Underwater City", the indefatigable scoundrel implements a much larger plan: stealing oil from deposits all over the planet, flooding the Pacific coast, raising a city from a sunken continent to the surface and growing dinosaurs and other monsters in the laboratory, with the help of which he plans to seize power. He also kidnaps Clark and Lois so they can't stop him anymore. Superman wins the battle of the dinosaur lowered on him by Luthor and floods the ancient city, while the redhead is attacked by the creatures he created.
IN “Superman. No. 5” (“The Luthor Incense Threat”; Summer 1940) the villain appears with gray hair. This time, he arranges an economic crisis in the country, subjugating the leading financiers with the help of a drug. Four decades later, the author remembered the red-haired criminal Marv Wolfman. Comic “DC comics presents. Yearbook #1” (“Crisis on Three Earths”; 1982) a bald Lex in a purple and green uniform terrorizes the city in a tank with a kryptonite ray, but Superman takes him down in minutes. Meanwhile, in a parallel universe, on Earth-2, a red-haired Luthor, whose name turns out to be Alexey, launches rockets into the editorial building, where all the friends of the Steel Man there work, but the hero eliminates the threat and finds the enemy's refuge. In prison, the bald Lex of Earth-1, with the help of his invention, contacts Alexei of Earth-2 and changes places with him so that each of them can destroy someone else's Superman (the iron logic of an evil genius ...). And indeed: Alexei's gravitational tapes take strength 
Earth-1's Superman and blast him far into space, while Lex's shrink beam sends Earth-2's Kryptonian into the realm of atoms. However, Lois of Earth-2, grabbing the villain's weapon, returns the hero to normal size, and Steel Man of Earth-1 frees himself from his bonds and saves his Lois from the redhead. Both Luthors then travel to Earth-3 and team up with Ultraman, the evil Superman of the Crime Syndicate; the bloodthirsty Alexei offers to simply destroy the first two Earths, which shocks Lex. Upon learning of the conspiracy, Earth-3's Lois seeks help from the most brilliant man on the planet, Dr. Alexander Luthor, and he, having contacted the Supermen, warns them of the danger. He also gets a hold of Ultraman while the Kryptonians take out the archenemies and save the worlds.
Alexei's last outing was "Crisis on Infinite Earths", where he made a fatal mistake, coveting the place of the leader of a huge army of supervillains: the robot Brain had a short conversation with those who dared to argue with him. In the same "Crisis", Alexander and Lois of Earth-3 sent their newborn son away from the dying world, and he, having matured in record time, became an important figure in the fight against the Anti-Monitor. And two decades later, the same Alexander Jr., or simply Alex, being very dissatisfied with the “post-crisis” DCU, together with Superboy-Prime, arranged "Infinite Crisis" in order to return the "multi-earth", almost killed Nightwing and eventually died at the hands of the Joker. 
In the world of the New 52, Alexander Luthor of Earth-3 turned out to be an evil version of Shazam, who wants to destroy all members of the Crime Syndicate, taking away their superpowers; he was killed by Lex of the main Earth in mini-series “Evil forever”.
Finally, we must not forget that the "post-crisis" magnate Lex Luthor during his first appearance in mini-series "Man of Steel" (1986) by John Byrne also boasted red hair, although he quickly returned to bald mode. It is on this version of the villain that most of his modern versions are based, including, in a sense, the most recent cinematic incarnation.
At the moment when in "Steel Man" During Superman's battle with Zod, a fuel truck with the inscription "Lexcorp" appeared in the frame, it became obvious that the release of the DC Extended Universe Lex would not have to wait long. However, his appearance in "Batman v Superman" initially looked doubtful - simply because in relation to Superman, Batman and Luthor, by and large, play the same role with different signs. Even more interesting is that, according to rumors, before the 30-year-old Eisenberg, 57-year-old Bryan Cranston was considered for the role of Luthor: it turns out that the initial concept of the image was completely different, and only after the consent of the Oscar nominee, Zach and David settled on the option with the young billionaire heir. “Playing the role of Jesse allows us to explore this interesting dynamic and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions,” the director said.
The actor wasn't a comic book fan growing up (although his father and cousin adored Superman), but he liked the script and did his own research on picture books. Filming, he said, took 150 days. Working with Affleck and Cavill, Jesse jokingly calls it discouraging, because no amount of training would help him to be on the same physical level with them, as a result of which he preferred to read in his trailer.
The choice for the role of Eisenberg caused a wary reaction from the fans. Despite the undoubted talent of the actor, he was considered too young and not menacing enough for the role. Jesse found it strange that he was considered unsuitable for a character that he had not yet embodied on the screen, but assured everyone that his Lex would be completely new: “When you make a movie like this and play a character that has already been played before, the further you go from these previous incarnations, the better. Because chances are, especially with a guy like Gene Hackman or Kevin Spacey, you won't be compared favorably."
Alexander Joseph “Lex” Luthor Jr., the 31-year-old son of an East German oil and machinery tycoon who died in 2000, brings to mind Lex Luthor II from the comics of the 90s - the Australian son of Lex, who turned out to be his clone with a transplanted brain of the original. However, the similarities between the two end at age and hair color. The concept of character in Batman v Superman seems quite realistic: a typical young modern master of life, walking around in youth clothes, riding a bike and keeping fit (when we first see him, he plays - and not bad - basketball). The impression is spoiled by the presentation of the material (intelligent, in principle, remarks) - exaggerated facial expressions, inappropriate gestures and manner of speech, which one of the critics compared with a “crazy squeaky toy”, rudely, but not without reason. This is an actor's decision, or a director's, or (most likely) both together, it is difficult to call it successful. For the second time in a row, the “dark and serious” DC Extended Universe brings out a character who belongs to a completely different type as a typical comic book psycho-villain, but in comparison with Luthor Eisenberg, Zod Shannon with his burning eyes seems to be a model of restraint. Lex "Batman v Superman" is reminiscent of absolutely every partially comical, grotesque Bat-villain, from Gorshin to Carrey, from Romero to Ledger, when it was supposed to be something really new and original - the first real Lex Luthor of the big screen.
But there are places in this role that could make it great. Hand-feeding candy to a politician is a devastatingly accurate description of absolutely any billionaire Luthor, regardless of age. The moment when Lex, delivering a solemn speech about the power of the mind, eventually “breaks down”, falls silent and ends it incomprehensibly, is intriguing and makes you think in a good way. Destroying an entire floor in Washington DC, including his own assistant, only to frame Superman is a classic Luthor move, embellished with an exquisite seagull element. And the scene where he sheds a tear over the corpse of Zod (Michael Shannon was not involved in the filming, just his face was attached to the model Greg Plitt), who, in theory, should represent evil for him worse than Clark, is strange and significant: who does he have in mind, speaking of the flight to the sun, the deceased or yourself? He signed his own sentence in advance and is ready for anything? The latter is evidenced by his decision to create Doomsday, a creature that cannot be controlled, without the slightest fear for his life (madness and fearlessness are two very different things).
“The character has a core in reality,” says the performer. “Luthor has a backstory that is tragic and an emotional inner life that is authentic…
Calling him self-aggrandizing is like saying the Titanic was a sailboat. He is a narcissist of the first order, but also complicated in such a way that he is terribly restless, competitive, and vengeful. He looks at Superman not as someone to be destroyed, but as a true threat to humanity."
“I feel like once Eisenberg discovered who Lex was, he accepted it,” Snyder said. “Once you kind of start learning about Lex, it’s a little scary being that guy… I think Jesse wasn’t immune to reality playing a super scary character.”
Unfortunately, key moments that could have been winning did not come out in the film. When Lex finally gets to meet the superhero he hates face to face for the first time (the trailer's exchange with Clark and Bruce doesn't count, though it's a fun teaser that subtly hints that he knows every secret id on this planet), it's disappointment. Historical note: not a single Luthor loved his father, and not a single one motivated his hatred of Superman by this, he always had other, most often older, reasons.

Admittedly, even in the face of the Dark Knight's angry face (and the prospect of getting the Bat-Brand), Eisenberg's Luthor does not ask for mercy. But, on the other hand, all he can do is to foretell as psychopathically as possible the arrival of DC's most stable "Big Bad". Biography
Lex Luthor is the son of Lionel and Letitia Luthor, a wealthy couple from Metropolis. Being a teenager, he spent living in Smallville with his Aunt Lena. It was there that he first encountered Clark Kent.
Golden age
Lex (Aleksey) Luther first appeared as power-hungry criminal genius, who first resisted Man of Steel in a comic action comics#23. Teaming up with a villain Earth-3, Ultraman (an evil version of Superman) in order to help them in the conquest of Earth -3, Alexei and Lex Luthor are defeated by Alexander Luthor of Earth -3, who is on earth-3 is a superhero.
Alexei continued to strive for world domination on Earth-2 until he was recruited by Brainiac during the events of . In issue #9, after confronting Lex Luthor, who was chosen by Brainiac as the leader of the team, Alexei stated to everyone present,"I'm better than labrat! You don't need two Luthors!"Brainiac immediately agreed and destroyed Alexei Luthor on the spot, leaving Lex Luthor behind. Silver Age
Lex Luthor grew up in suburban Smallville, Kansas together with their parents and sister, Lena. Though forced to live the life of a farmer's son, he never acquired a farmer's heart. Instead, Luthor aspired to become the greatest scientist in the world .
Being a teenager, Luthor learned of existence in his hometown of Smallville, the hero of Superboy. He followed the adventures of Superboy and soon became the biggest fan of the young Kryptonian. Later, Lex was able to convince parents move to Smallville to allow Lex to be closer to his hero.
One day, when Luther was plowing a field on his tractor, he found Superboy, barely alive, this because he was in close proximity to Kryptonite, Luther using his tractor to drag it to a safe distance. Then Luthor invited Superboy to your workshop. Superboy saw a real temple erected in his honor, walls and benches decorated with various souvenirs from various Superboy adventures. Fearing that their son would never reform, Lex's parents decided to leave Smallville and change their last name to "Torul" in hopes of raising their daughter Elena Torul in a peaceful environment away from the evil Lex. Despite his parents' best efforts, Lex later found his sister and faced off with her and her children, despite his evil nature.
Luther continued to make plans to take over the earth and the universe at large, even during Crisis on Infinite Earths, where he re-teamed with his named ally, Brainiac, who by then had taken on a more robotic appearance. He will witness the death of his Earth-2 counterpart, Alexei, who dared to challenge Brainiac and Lex. Lex Luthor is an ordinary human with no superhuman powers. He has the intelligence of a genius and is one of the smartest people on the planet who (usually alone) is able to turn the world into Utopia if not for his obsession with Superman.
It would seem that he has mastered all known types of science, including space flight, biochemistry, robotics, computers, synthetic polymers, communications, mutations, transport, holography, energy production, spectral analysis and a number of others (including time travel). He also used various combat suits he designed himself, it allows him to stand up to Superman and a number of other superhumans . Thanks to the suit, he can fly, create invisible energy shields that protect the entire suit from most physical attacks. His suit includes a foldable Kryptonite sword, an axe, a cannon staff, and even Kryptonite energy cannons built into the suit's palms. In addition, he often wore a Kryptonite ring on his right hand.
