Like a flash drive, an external hard drive is connected via a USB port. However, its capacity far exceeds the amount of available space on a flash drive, so you can transfer hundreds of thousands of pictures at once.
Creating a local network
If you want to move pictures between machines that are in the same room, then you can do without removable media. With a router or crossover cable, you can quickly set up a local network and copy pictures from one PC to another.
