Story

GQ magazine can be considered the reincarnation of the oldest American publication for men, Apparel Arts, published since 1931. In 1957, the words Gentlemen's Quarterly first appeared on its cover. In 1983, the publishing house Condé Nast acquired the rights to the magazine, after which the gradual formation of the GQ concept began, which soon became the flagship of men's gloss. The success of the magazine is due to its editor-in-chief Art Cooper, who led GQ after a change in publishing house. He ran the magazine for 24 years. It was his idea that was an interesting and original combination of beautiful pictures and smart, but at the same time easy to read texts.

In 2003, Art Cooper stepped down as editor-in-chief of the magazine. It is now occupied by Jim Nelson. Under his leadership, the publication began to experiment with design more often, and also significantly expanded its readership, thanks to articles that touch on topics of interest to men in their 20s and 30s.

Since 1999, the editor-in-chief of the English version of the magazine has been Dylan Jones, whose priority is the text content of the publication. British GQ columns are written by popular contemporary writers such as Tony Parsons, Will Self, Adrian Gill, as well as a true professional from the automotive world, Top Gear host Jimmy Clarkson.

Versions of all countries are distinguished by a high bar set for the textual content of the publication.

The bright and noticeable photographic material present in each issue of the magazine is the result of the publication's collaboration with famous photographers: Steven Klein, etc.

GQ style

The classic "fashion gloss" men's version was first released in the UK in 2004. In Russia, the magazine began to be published in the autumn of 2007. GQ Style is an original publication that creates its own material, rather than copying it from others. The magazine contains not only information about fashion, but also practical advice, as well as stories about the "kitchen" of the fashion world. His audience is young people who consider their passion for fashion as a virtue. The publication is published twice a year with a circulation of 100,000 copies.

“For the first time, men's fashion finds its own legal territory, no longer being an appendix to a block of articles about successful careers, ways to achieve orgasm and criticism of the current government. We can say that fashion is the most essential of non-essential things. Being a reflection of the inner world of a person, it, one way or another, affects everything that we do.

Covers

Really interesting and notable people of our time get on the cover of GQ, regardless of citizenship, occupation and gender. In March 1962, the magazine placed on the cover a photograph of John F. Kennedy, and in October 1963 - Salvador Dali, the November 1965 cover was dedicated to Moscow. At different times, Woody Allen, Richard Gere, Mel Gibson, Sting, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Julia Roberts, Prince Charles, Johnny Depp, Michael Jackson, George Clooney, Sharon Stone, Jack Nicholson, Evander Holyfield, Jackie Chan, Charlize Theron, Jude Law, Johnny Knoxville, Brad Pitt, Justin Timberlake, Heath Ledger, Clive Owen, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Al Pacino and many others. In addition, the publication regularly puts photos of semi-nude and naked stars on the cover, including Jennifer Aniston, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, and in 2009 Sacha Baron Cohen.

2003 was marked by a major scandal involving the British version of GQ. The publication published a photo of Kate Winslet on the cover, greatly changing the plump figure of the actress with the help of Photoshop. Outraged Winslet, distinguished by feminine forms and defending the rights of obese women in show business, said that the cover of the magazine is not her body.

Before him, for nine years, Nikolai Uskov was at the helm of the publication, who left his post to lead the Zhivi! media group. The current success of the magazine is largely due to his merit.

The publication has an active Internet portal where you can find something new every day. The resource contains editorial blogs, news from the world of fashion, technology and show business.
