The situation in the Smolensk province from 1914 to 1920 remained extremely difficult. In addition to food, fuel, and transport problems, epidemics of typhus and typhoid fever, syphilis, and other infectious diseases posed a great threat. At the same time, during 1918-1920, four mobilizations to the Red Army were carried out here, after which health care institutions were left practically without doctors. In 1918, several universities appeared in Smolensk, among which was the State University (SSU). Initially, it was decided that the Faculty of Medicine would definitely be part of it. Thanks to the firm position of the council of professors, Smolensk University managed to avoid one of the mistakes of similar educational institutions formed in the country during this period - overloaded with many faculties. during the organization of the Smolensk medical faculty (1919-1923), most of the departments were headed by truly experienced and knowledgeable specialists - scientists and teachers. So, the organizer and the first professor of the department of anatomy in 1920 was one of the largest specialists of that time, professor of Moscow University P.I. Karuzin. His successor is another student of Professor P.F. Lesgafta V.V. Butyrkin. G.N. Gabrichevsky - B.L. Patsevich, who, being assistant director of the first Moscow bacteriological institute in the country, moved to Smolensk in 1911 to organize a similar institution here. The Department of Physiology was headed by a student N.B. Vvedensky - D.S. Vorontsov. The Department of Faculty and Operative Surgery was headed by a student of Professor S.I. Spasokukotsky - B.E. Linberg, The heads of three therapeutic departments in Smolensk were the students of Professor M.V. Yanovsky - G.Ya. Gurevich, A.I. Ivanov, K.V. Punin. The first faculty of the Smolensk medical faculty was distinguished by that special "caste" that has always united Russian doctors-intellectuals. Everything possible was done to save the team. The professional solidarity of professors and lecturers made it possible to pursue a rather tough policy regarding interference in the activities of the university by representatives of students and local authorities. As a result of the rule established at the faculty - to study with capable students, selecting such for work at the department already from the first courses, professors of the Smolensk Medical Faculty trained their own teaching staff. So in the early years they trained several future scientists and teachers: the head of the department of anatomy, Professor V.V. Butyrkin - professors I.M. Vorontsov and V.A. Yusina, Professor I.O. Mikhailovsky - histologists L.I. Falin and V.V. Anisimov, professor-physiologist D.S. Vorontsov - N.A. Yudenich, P.O. Makarova, Professor of the Department of Microbiology B.L. Patsevich - the future head of the same department V.A. Yudenich. The glorious traditions that formed and laid the foundation for the activities of the medical faculty of SSU as a result of the truly heroic efforts of its first professors, made it possible to survive the difficulties of the formation stage and find themselves among the largest higher medical schools in the USSR in the mid-1930s. 1924 became a critical year in the life of medical faculty. The faculty was closed three times and then reopened. The same fate befell many universities of the country at that time. Smolensk accepted doctors who had not completed their education from the liquidated medical faculties of Yaroslavl, Simferopol, Sverdlovsk and other universities. Of the 228 people recruited in 1924, 128 were transferred from other universities. In 1925, the first graduation of students from the medical faculty of SSU took place: 26 men and 54 women. At that time, 35 departments with laboratories functioned at the faculty. In practical exercises By 1933, two new faculties were organized: a sanitary and preventive department with an epidemiological department and a faculty for the protection of motherhood and infancy with two departments - pediatric and obstetric-gynecological. This year, 910 students have already studied within the walls of the SSMI. The educational base of the institute, the living conditions of students living in dormitories improved significantly, more than 90% of students received scholarships, and lump-sum allowances were issued. Until 1938, the institute was headed by the first director, associate professor F.S. Bykov. Later, he was replaced in this post by V.A. Batanov, who led the university until 1950. In the 1930s, the same processes took place at the Smolensk Medical Institute that were characteristic of the social life of the whole country. Political repressions did not bypass him either, morally and physically killing people, crippling the fate of families, causing great damage to the country's healthcare system. By the 15th anniversary of the institute, 30 graduate students were trained at its departments. In the Research Institute of Antimicrobial ChemotherapyFrom 1936 to 1941 (inclusive) 34 candidate and 14 doctoral dissertations were completed. By the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, 2,635 students were studying at two faculties of the Smolensk Medical Institute - medical and pediatric. 20 processors, doctors of sciences and more than 10 candidates of sciences taught at the departments. The war interrupted the work of the Smolensk Medical Institute. The valuable property of the university was evacuated to the city of Saratov. Part of the teaching staff was sent to work in various institutions of the country, continuing to train medical personnel in the rear. Many teachers and students went to the front. Hundreds of graduates, students, staff and teachers of the university worked in medical battalions and hospitals, participated in battles, partisans, died under shelling and on the front lines. When the Red Army liberated Smolensk, it turned out that, with the exception of the main building, which was blown up, but did not burn down, the educational and hostel base of the medical institute was destroyed. The buildings of most of the city's medical institutions, which were clinical bases, were also completely destroyed. In the spring of 1944, recalled from the active army, V.A. Batanov set about restoring the institute. And already in the fall, classes were resumed not only at the first, but also at subsequent courses. The first post-war graduation of doctors took place in July 1945. In the 1950s, SSMI revived as one of the largest medical universities in the country, brought the material and technical base to the modern level, and made confident steps in scientific and educational work. In 1950, associate professor G.M. Starikov, a graduate of the institute, who made a great contribution to the development of the university, the construction of educational buildings and dormitories. With his direct participation, the stomatological and pediatric faculties, the preparatory department were opened. In 1978, as rector G.M. Starikov was replaced by N.B. Kozlov (1924-2001), graduate of SSMI (1952), Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Honorary Professor of the Smolensk State Medical Academy. Under him, in 1980, the Central Research Laboratory (TsNIL) was opened at the university. Over the years, outstanding scientists studied and worked at the Smolensk State Medical Institute, who made a significant contribution to the development of domestic medicine and healthcare, created large Russian schools, - honored figures Sciences of the Russian Federation A.T. Shangina; Order of the Red Banner of Labor - Professor GG. Dubinkin, V.G. Molotkov, M.Z. Popov; Order of the Badge of Honor - Professor A. N. Kartavenko, S.M. Nekrasov and many others. In 1994, the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Higher Education transformed the Smolensk State Medical Institute into the Smolensk State Medical Academy (SSMA). New scientific divisions are opened at the university; in June 1999 - Research Institute of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (NII ACh) (Professor L.S. general information

The history of the Academy begins on April 4, 1920, when, in accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of the People's Commissariat of Health, the Faculty of Medicine was opened as part of the Smolensk State University.

In 1930, Smolensk University was divided into two independent universities - medical and pedagogical. On the eve of the Great Patriotic War, the institute became one of the largest medical universities in the country. The war interrupted the work of the Smolensk Medical Institute. The valuable property of the university was evacuated to the city of Saratov, and for many teachers and students, university classrooms were replaced by a battlefield.

On September 25, 1943, Smolensk was liberated and the Institute resumed its activities. Despite incredible difficulties, in July 1945, the first post-war graduation of doctors took place. In the post-war period, the medical institute became a major university in Russia in the system of training specialists with higher medical education.

In 1994, the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Higher Education transformed the Smolensk State Medical Institute into the Smolensk State Medical Academy.

Currently, the Smolensk Medical Academy is the center of medical science, training of medical personnel and medical and preventive activities. The Academy trains doctors for Smolensk, Bryansk, Kaluga, Tula, Oryol, Kaliningrad and other regions of the Russian Federation, as well as for foreign countries.

The Academy has 7 faculties: medical, pediatric, dental, faculty of foreign students, pharmaceutical, nursing, advanced training and professional retraining of specialists, since 2003 a pre-university training center has been operating.

65 departments of the university are located at the training bases of the academy and large medical institutions in Smolensk. More than 450 teachers work at the academy, including 86 doctors of sciences, 281 candidates of sciences.

For more than 80 years of history of the university, more than 27 thousand doctors have been trained. Much attention is paid to the educational process in the academy. Particular importance is attached to the introduction of modern active teaching methods, the use of computer technology in the educational process. Teaching of theoretical, humanitarian and biomedical disciplines is carried out in 4 educational buildings, well-equipped with computers, video recorders, televisions and other technical teaching aids. The clinical bases of the academy are equipped with modern medical and diagnostic equipment, which makes it possible to teach graduates advanced medical technologies.

The Academy has a well-equipped library with more than 550 thousand copies of books; 3 reading rooms for 200 seats with an open access fund. In information and bibliographic work the library uses computer technologies.

Our university is specific, all over the world medicine is the most expensive, most time-consuming profession. Therefore, we pay great attention to pre-university education. Professional orientation in medicine is very important. The work of a doctor is complex, associated with considerable difficulties, and sometimes with severe emotional experiences. Medicine is not only pain, but also a huge responsibility and intelligence. When choosing medicine as a matter of life, one must take this into account.

The academy has all the conditions for raising the cultural level, developing a harmonious personality of a university graduate. The functioning of student clubs, amateur art groups, physical education and sports is aimed at this. For sporting events there are 2 sports halls, a training and shooting complex, a swimming pool, a ski base, an outdoor stadium.

SSMA is one of the few universities in the country where there is a student sanatorium. The sanatorium-dispensary has good conditions for the treatment and prevention of diseases without interrupting the educational process.

The Academy has 5 comfortable dormitories, including 4 student dormitories and I - for cadets of the faculty of advanced training and professional retraining of specialists.

Those who graduate from our academy can work in all areas of medicine. For this, there is the possibility of postgraduate training in internship, residency and postgraduate studies. Our graduates work in all corners of our Motherland and beyond. The level of their professional training is highly valued. Therefore, the diploma of a doctor from the Smolensk Medical Academy opens the door to the 21st century for the graduate to realize his knowledge with a fairly high competitiveness.

I wish all applicants a happy ticket and good grades. The Academy is waiting for its future pupils with the confidence that it will not deceive their hopes.

V.G. PLESHKOV, President of SSMA, professor,
Honored Worker of the Higher School of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.

in order not to chase people for envelopes and stamps, you need to sell them at the selection committee, photocopy documents also at the selection committee - these will be paid services. You also need to learn the culture of dealing with visiting applicants, dear gentlemen-employees of the Smolensk Medical Academy!

Dear applicants, do not enter this terrible place .. Here you will be subjected to severe torture and non-existent knowledge will be drawn out, because not a bit of respected, insolent professors, associate professors need money from you, and your mental abilities are not of interest to them, unfortunately ..they are busy recalculating their miserable salaries..Shame and disgrace to everything related to medicine..Teachers do not transfer valuable clinical experience to students, but they make them sit aimlessly in their pants. There is no clinical base as such, training takes place "on the fingers", and not on modern equipment. You can forget about polite, respectful attitude and understanding. And Hindu and Caucasian students brazenly and unceremoniously pester our girls ..

Such a well-known university, with a rich history, outstanding teaching staff, and not researchers and security - cattle! Most of all, the head of hostel No. 1, Abramova Elena Aleksandrovna, struck me the most - in a conversation with relatives of students she screams, is rude, does not look for solutions to pressing issues and problems, but creates them herself. Following her example, all other employees do not consider us human beings. For her, students are enemies, whom she does not teach, only looking for a reason for punishment - eviction or divorce for money. How can such an employee work with children! Moreover, her appearance is far from pedagogical (leopard print blouse with a deep neckline, "night" makeup). For whom is she creating such a vulgar image ?!

Smolensk Medical Academy is a cult place. If you are in the soul of a zombie, then this is your educational institution, I entered this year, I wanted to study at the Faculty of Medicine, but they immediately offered (hinting that there was no chance) for pediatrics, the competition makes you shudder. To be honest, these faculties are the same, only there are more girls. The group consists of 23 people and is divided in half at almost every seminar. And from the moment of my admission, a sleepless life began, anatomy is replaced by chemistry, chemistry by physics, and from the new semester, histology has also been added. We can only dream of peace! Buying any exam is not realistic or too expensive or too stubborn teacher - the only chance to somehow influence your assessment is to participate in scientific conferences or the public life of the academy, while solving the problem with one science deteriorates sharply with another. The teachers themselves are the best specialists I have seen (except for the Department of Psychology). And they ask you not as a student, but as from yourself, "this is where all doctors have bruises under their eyes." But I like it, it's still a dream.

At the time of my admission, the university was called the Smolensk State Medical Institute - 1985. Three faculties: medical, pediatric, dental. The number of places received was distributed accordingly: 300/175/125. It was probably difficult to enter, because out of a group of 30 applicants, 5-7 people remained, there were also beneficiaries, including those after the army, who accordingly went out of the competition. The curator of the 1st course was the deputy dean of the medical faculty, the legendary teacher of anatomy (in the history of the university), Sukharev A.I. Separately, I would like to note the honored teachers Podcheko P.I., Shevelev A.S., Evstafiev V.V., Borokhov A.I. In the 1st year I had to participate in amateur performances, which is very welcome. Club "Eskulap", dance floor of CSKA - separate pages in the cultural life of the academy. The sanatorium-preventorium of the university in the building of the pediatric faculty is a great place for rest and excellent nutrition on the territory of the university and the medical town as a whole. He received his diploma in 1993. I work as a doctor.

I want to tell you about the university where I studied, even more than the university, my alma mater, the place where I spent 6 years of my life. Unforgettable 6 years. I studied at the Smolensk State Medical Academy, SSMA. Everyone knows this university in our glorious city of Smolensk, and there are legends about how difficult it is to enter there. Students study there not only from Smolensk, but also from cities that do not have their own medical university - Bryansk, Kaluga, Tula, Kaliningrad, as well as a whole faculty of foreign students (mainly from Sri Lanka). There are three main faculties - medical, pediatric, dental. In addition, there are pharmaceutical, psycho-social, higher nursing education and faculties of foreign students and advanced training. I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine. During the training, classes were taught by professors, authors of many textbooks, and practicing doctors. After the 3rd year, most classes are conducted at clinical departments directly in the city's hospitals. Students have a unique opportunity to gain knowledge directly at the patient's bedside, observe the healing process, and, if desired, participate in it. A medical university is different from others, it is difficult and interesting to study in it. After graduating from the Medical Academy, I work as a cardiologist and often and with pleasure recall my student years.

SMU is a state medical university, which is located in the city of Smolensk on Kirova street, 28. SMU has no branches. The best personnel potential of Smolensk medicine is concentrated in it.
