What did the business man consider the little prince. Garden of the human soul

19.06.2019

"The fourth planet belonged to a business man" (Chapter XIII), and in the "Ptolemaic series" "belongs" to Venus.

Venus!

And no matter how Exupery tries to show the image of a Mercurian (Virgo) or a Saturnian (Capricorn) in the course of the story, the Venusian inclinations of the inhabitant of the 4th planet of the Little Prince by the end of Chapter XIII are obvious.

Although at first the image of a business person is drawn magnificently, albeit not for long:

« He was so busy that when the Little Prince appeared, he did not even raise his head.

"Good afternoon," the Little Prince said to him. - Your cigarette is out» (Chapter XIII).

Business person?

However, the very next passage makes one wonder how the character of the 4th planet of the Little Prince is "businesslike" :

«- Three and two is five. Five yes seven - twelve. Twelve and three are fifteen. Good afternoon. Fifteen yes seven - twenty two. Twenty-two and six are twenty-eight. Once a match strike.

Twenty-six yes five - thirty-one. Phew! In total, therefore, five hundred one million six hundred twenty two thousand seven hundred thirty one» (Chapter XIII).

Clerk of "office plankton"

So the image of a real, true business person, correlated in classical astrology with Capricorn and Saturn, is suddenly leveled to a petty clerk, “office plankton”, who “loves accuracy” according to Virgo and Mercury.

A true business person “does not like accuracy” and “gets dirty with pennies”, that is, he will not become units in his calculations: he thinks globally, in millions and thousands.

The little prince with the question “five hundred million of what?”, rounding off the values he heard, looks more “businesslike” than the native character of the 4th planet of the Little Prince.

Zodiacal Virgo with her ability to "not see the forest for the trees" in pursuit of single values correlates with him much more.

Is it a clerk?

But this version does not "live" for long. Watch out for the next dialogue:

“What are you doing with all these stars? ..

... - I do nothing. I own them.

- Do you own the stars?

- Yes.

- But I have already seen the king, who...

“Kings own nothing. They only reign. It's not the same at all.

- And why do you own the stars?

- To be rich.

- Why be rich?

- To buy more new stars if someone opens them. (Chapter XIII).

Is it a banker?

And further:

"-… But I can put them in the bank.

- Like this?

- And so: I write on a piece of paper how many stars I have. Then I put this piece of paper in a drawer and lock it with a key.

- And that's it?

"That's enough" (Chapter XIII).

The usual thug...

In other words, the inhabitant of the 4th planet of the Little Prince is not even an accountant, not an analyst. So, an ordinary money-grubber and a grabber who imagines himself a dock in banking ...

And when an astrologer hears an interconnected series of phrases “I own”, “be rich”, “buy”, “bank”, “put in a box” and “lock it with a key”, no other image, except for the zodiac Taurus and Venus that controls it, is in front of him will arise.

That's why Venus, as the fourth planet of the "Ptolemaic series", ideally correlates with the "business man", the hero of the 4th planet of the Little Prince .

Venus score

Concluding, consider the table of its advantages / weaknesses:

Looking ahead, we note that Venus is the lord of the horoscope: there are no planets with a higher status in terms of merit in the chart.

By the way, its location in Taurus, like Mercury in Aries, in the signs of a non-multiple nature, again indicates a drunkard and a hard worker as the only inhabitants of the inhabited planets.

In 1943, the work of interest to us was first published. Let's talk briefly about the background of its creation, and then we will analyze it. "The Little Prince" is a work, the impetus for writing which was one incident that happened to its author.

In 1935, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was in a plane crash while flying in the direction of Paris-Saigon. He ended up in the territory located in the Sahara, in its northeastern part. Memories of this accident and the invasion of the Nazis prompted the author to think about the responsibility for the Earth of people, about the fate of the world. In 1942, he wrote in his diary that he was worried about his generation, devoid of spiritual content. People lead a herd existence. To return spiritual concerns to a person is the task that the writer set himself.

To whom is the work dedicated?

The story that interests us is dedicated to Leon Werth, Antoine's friend. This is important to note when doing the analysis. "The Little Prince" is a story in which everything is filled with deep meaning, including dedication. After all, Leon Werth is a Jewish writer, journalist, critic, victim of persecution during the war. Such a dedication was not just a tribute to friendship, but also a bold challenge by the writer to anti-Semitism and Nazism. In difficult times, Exupery created his fairy tale story. He fought against violence with words and illustrations, which he manually created for his work.

Two worlds in a story

Two worlds are represented in this story - adults and children, as our analysis shows. "The Little Prince" is a work in which this division is by no means done according to age. For example, a pilot is an adult, but he managed to save a child's soul. The author divides people according to ideals and ideas. For adults, the most important are their own affairs, ambition, wealth, power. And the child's soul longs for something else - friendship, mutual understanding, beauty, joy. The antithesis (children and adults) helps to reveal the main conflict of the work - the opposition of two different value systems: real and false, spiritual and material. It deepens further. After leaving the planet, the little prince meets "strange adults" on his way, whom he cannot understand.

Travel and dialogue

The composition is based on travel and dialogue. The general picture of the existence of humanity losing moral values is recreated by the meeting with the "adults" of the little prince.

The protagonist travels in the story from asteroid to asteroid. He visits, first of all, the nearest, where people live alone. Each asteroid has a number, like the apartments of a modern high-rise building. These figures hint at the separation of people who live in neighboring apartments, but live as if on different planets. For the little prince, meeting the inhabitants of these asteroids becomes a lesson in loneliness.

Meeting with the king

On one of the asteroids lived a king who looked at the whole world, like other kings, in a very simplified way. For him, subjects are all people. However, the king was tormented by this question: "Who is to blame for the fact that his orders are impossible?". The king taught the prince that judging oneself is harder than judging others. Having learned this, one can become truly wise. The lover of power loves power, not subjects, and therefore is deprived of the latter.

The Prince visits the planet of the ambitious

On another planet lived an ambitious man. But vain people are deaf to everything except praise. Only the ambitious loves glory, and not the public, and therefore remains without the latter.

Drunkard's Planet

Let's continue the analysis. The little prince ends up on the third planet. His next meeting is with a drunkard who thinks intently about himself and eventually becomes completely confused. This man is ashamed of what he drinks. However, he drinks in order to forget about his conscience.

business man

The business man owned the fourth planet. As the analysis of the fairy tale "The Little Prince" shows, the meaning of his life was to find something that does not have an owner and appropriate it. A business man counts wealth that is not his: he who saves only for himself might as well count the stars. The little prince cannot understand the logic by which adults live. He concludes that it is beneficial for his flower and volcanoes that he owns them. But the stars do not benefit from such possession.

Lamplighter

And only on the fifth planet the main character finds a person with whom he wants to make friends. This is a lamplighter who would be despised by everyone, because he thinks not only of himself. However, his planet is tiny. There is no room for two. The lamplighter is working in vain, because he does not know for whom.

Meeting with a geographer

The geographer, who writes thick books, lived on the sixth planet, which was created in his story by Exupery ("The Little Prince"). The analysis of the work would be incomplete if we did not say a few words about it. This is a scientist, and beauty is ephemeral for him. Nobody needs scientific papers. Without love for a person, it turns out that everything is meaningless - and honor, and power, and labor, and science, and conscience, and capital. The little prince leaves this planet too. The analysis of the work continues with a description of our planet.

Little prince on earth

The last place the prince visited was the strange Earth. When he arrives here, the title character of Exupery's story "The Little Prince" feels even more alone. The analysis of the work when describing it should be more detailed than when describing other planets. After all, the author pays special attention in the story to the Earth. He notices that this planet is not at all home, it is "salty", "all in needles" and "completely dry". It's uncomfortable to live on it. Its definition is given through images that seemed strange to the little prince. The boy notes that this planet is not simple. It is ruled by 111 kings, there are 7,000 geographers, 900,000 businessmen, 7.5 million drunkards, 311 million ambitious people.

The protagonist's journey continues in the following sections. He meets, in particular, with the switchman directing the train, but people do not know where they are going. The boy then sees a merchant who sells anti-thirst pills.

Among the people living here, the little prince feels lonely. Analyzing life on Earth, he notes that there are so many people on it that they cannot feel like one. Millions remain strangers to each other. What do they live for? A lot of people are rushing in fast trains - why? People are not connected by pills or fast trains. And the planet will not become a home without it.

Friendship with the Fox

After analyzing Exupery's The Little Prince, we found out that the boy is bored on Earth. And the Fox, another hero of the work, has a boring life. Both of them are looking for a friend. The fox knows how to find him: you need to tame someone, that is, create bonds. And the main character understands that there are no shops where you can buy a friend.

The author describes the life before the meeting with the boy, which was led by the Fox from the story "The Little Prince". allows us to notice that before this meeting he only fought for his existence: he hunted chickens, and hunters hunted him. The fox, having been tamed, escaped from the circle of defense and attack, fear and hunger. It is to this hero that the formula "only the heart is vigilant" belongs. Love can be transferred to many other things. Having made friends with the main character, the Fox will fall in love with everything else in the world. The close in his mind is connected with the distant.

A pilot in the desert

It is easy to imagine a home planet in habitable places. However, in order to understand what a house is, it is necessary to be in the desert. Exupery's analysis of The Little Prince suggests this idea. In the desert, the main character met a pilot, with whom he then became friends. The pilot ended up here not only because of a malfunction of the aircraft. He has been enchanted by the desert all his life. The name of this desert is loneliness. The pilot understands an important secret: there is meaning in life when there is someone to die for. The desert is a place where a person feels a thirst for communication, thinks about the meaning of existence. It reminds us that the earth is the home of man.

What did the author want to tell us?

The author wants to say that people have forgotten one simple truth: they are responsible for their planet, as well as for those who have been tamed. If we all understood this, there would probably be no wars and economic problems. But people are very often blind, do not listen to their own hearts, leave their home, looking for happiness far from their relatives and friends. Antoine de Saint-Exupery did not write his fairy tale "The Little Prince" for fun. The analysis of the work carried out in this article, we hope, convinced you of this. The writer appeals to all of us, urging us to carefully look at those who surround us. After all, these are our friends. They must be protected, according to Antoine de Saint-Exupery ("The Little Prince"). This concludes the analysis of the work. We invite readers to reflect on this story for themselves and continue the analysis with their own observations.

We are inhabitants of one planet, passengers of one ship.

Everything I hold dear is at stake.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery

The purpose of the lesson: consider the environmental and moral issues raised in the fairy tale

Lesson objectives:

- to reveal the philosophical meaning of the fairy tale;
- to analyze the moral problems of human interaction with nature;
- on the basis of local history material to identify general and local (for our village) environmental problems;
- Propose solutions to identified problems.

Equipment: globe, models-appliqués of the planets, memo for the inhabitants of the village, quotes, arrows indicating problems.

DURING THE CLASSES

Literature teacher.“A fairy tale is a lie, but there is a hint in it, a lesson for good fellows.” The Little Prince is not as simple a fairy tale as it seems. By carefully reading it, you can learn a lot of useful things for yourself.
In previous lessons, we talked about the fact that modern man feels himself the master of the world - he seeks to subjugate the nature of the Earth, and then other planets. In many ways, he succeeded: he exploits the bowels of the Earth, explores outer space, uses the energy of the atom, etc. This human activity often causes irreparable harm to nature. Carried away, a person began to lose touch with nature, forgot that he himself is a part of it and cannot exist outside of nature.
Let's return to the fairy tale "The Little Prince". Its author said: "I do not want my book to be read just for fun." How do you understand these words? Try to answer the following questions.

– What do we call a work that touches on serious problems, makes you think, analyze? ( philosophical.)
- What is this story about?
What is the author thinking about?
What did you think about when you read the story?

Biology teacher. The plot of the fairy tale is based on the journey of the Little Prince across the planets in search of a friend. Let's remember what planets he visited, whom he met, what did he see?

(Students, using models, make messages about the planets described in the fairy tale, make assumptions about how the planet would look if a person living there was in charge.)

King's Planet. Every inhabitant is a subject of the king, everything is done only by order of the king.

P planet of the ambitious. Ambitious - selfish, admires only himself. The planet is well-groomed only where he lives, and what is being done in other places does not interest him.

Planet of the Drunkard. A drunkard is a weak person; he cannot free himself from addiction. Dirty, unkempt planet.

Planet of the Business Man. This person dreams of owning the entire universe, and his planet is overgrown, wild.

Planet of the Lamplighter. The lamplighter works tirelessly, lights the way for other people, thinks not only about himself. Clean, bright planet.

Geographer's Planet. The geographer has not been anywhere, if he knows something, then only by hearsay. According to papers - a good planet, but in reality - neglected.

Literature teacher. Answer the following questions ( Working with text, telling children about the planet, the layout of the planet is attached to the board.)

What planet did the little prince come from?
Why did he clean volcanoes?
Why didn't he like baobabs?
- When was the story written? (1942–1943)
- What happened in the world?
- What turned out to be as dangerous for our planet as baobabs for the Little Prince? ( Fascism, aggression, weapons.)

Biology teacher (holding a globe).

Here she flies, what a little one!
Here she is sad, delving into her thoughts,
Here she floats, unsteady cool blows,
Still lives! Still believes people.

(Attach a layout of the Earth and illustrations to the board.)

Literature teacher. What did the little prince see when he came to Earth? ( Desert, rocks, roses, forests.) Why did he cry when he fell into the grass?

Biology teacher. Let's imagine that the Little Prince came to Earth today. What would he see on Earth? What "baobabs" threaten our Earth today?

Pupils, based on newspapers and other sources of information, name problems. The teacher attaches arrows with the listed problems to the model of the planet Earth.

Earth's climate change as a result of increased greenhouse effect.

Reduction of the ozone layer, the formation of ozone holes.

    Air pollution, acid rain.

Pollution of the Ocean, burial of poisonous and radioactive substances in it, the ingress of oil products into it, rupture of normal ecological ties between the Ocean and land due to the construction of dams on rivers.

Depletion and pollution of the Earth's fresh waters; imbalance between surface and ground waters.

Radioactive contamination associated with the operation of nuclear devices, testing of nuclear weapons, etc.

Accumulation on the land surface of household garbage and industrial waste.

    Desertification of territories.

Reduction of forest area, leading to an imbalance in the composition of the atmosphere.

    Extinction of organisms.

Deterioration of quality and reduction of areas of agricultural land.

Overpopulation of the Earth and relative demographic overwork in certain areas.

Literature teacher.

All people have one planet,
And the winds have no boundaries on it,
As there are no boundaries to the streams of light
And flights of wild birds.
And we protect the planet over
For those who come after us
And we thoughtlessly pour poisons
And we poison our house without sparing.

Biology teacher.

The ozone layer is getting thinner
And he is the shield of life on earth.
Already growing, like ulcers, zones,
Where death lurks in the smoky haze.
Poisoned waters flow
Along riverbeds and underground,
Rain falls from the sky
Sulfuric acid water.
The forests are losing their power
The gentle smell of linden leaves.
Lakes that have become a grave
Flocks of fish are buried in themselves.

I.I. Landau

Literature teacher. Why is the little prince returning to his planet? What is the wisdom of the story?
After meeting the Fox, the Little Prince returns to his planet, to his capricious rose, because he loves them. He realized that he was responsible for them.
One must be able to be faithful in love and friendship, one cannot be indifferent to what is happening in the world, one cannot be passive towards evil: everyone is responsible not only for their own fate.
– What would the Little Prince tell us today, what would he advise?

Biology teacher. Living on our land, in our village of Tyulgan, we are responsible for what surrounds us. Let's see what problems you have identified in our village.

The problems listed by the students are written on the board:

- garbage on the streets, despite the fact that there are urns nearby;
– garbage dumps near houses;
- garbage in the hallways;
– homeless animals (cats, dogs);
- pollution of water bodies with garbage.

Opposite each problem - the proposed ways of solving it are written down.

Biology teacher.

Take care of the Earth! take care
Skylark at the blue zenith
Butterfly on a dodder stalk,
Sunshine on the path
On the stones of a playing crab,
Over the desert the shadow of the baobab,
The hawk hovering over the field
A clear moon over the river calm.
Take care of the Earth! take care
The miracle of the songs of cities and towns,
The darkness of the depths and the will of the skies,
Old age is the last consolation,

A woman running to the kindergarten
Tenderness helpless singing
And love iron patience.
Take care of young seedlings
At the green festival of nature,
Sky in the stars, ocean and land
And a believing soul in immortality -
All destinies are the connecting threads.

Take care of the Earth! take care
Time turns sharply
The joy of inspiration and work,
Ancient kinship living properties,
Tree of hope and worry
Revelation of earth and sky
The sweetness of life, milk and bread.
Take care of kindness and pity,
To fight for the weak.
Protect the future for...

Literature teacher.“I know one planet, there lives a gentleman with a purple face. He had never smelled a flower in his life. I never looked at a star. He never loved anyone, ”the Little Prince says sadly. He calls: "I got up in the morning, washed myself, put myself in order - and immediately put your planet in order." Such a simple and helpful tip.
To change something in the world, you need to change your inner world. If you love beauty, then support this beauty. To create a garden around you, you need to create a garden in your soul.

The biology teacher evaluates the students' work.

Homework: write an essay on the topic: “Which planet would I like to live on?”

... The fourth planet belonged to a business person. He was so
busy that when the Little Prince appeared, he did not even raise his head.
"Good afternoon," the Little Prince said to him. - Your cigarette
went out.
- Three yes two - five. Five yes seven - twelve. twelve yes
three - fifteen. Good afternoon. Fifteen yes seven - twenty two.
Twenty-two and six are twenty-eight. Once a match strike.
Twenty-six yes five - thirty-one. Phew! Altogether, five hundred
one million six hundred twenty-two thousand seven hundred thirty-one.
- Five hundred million what?
- A? Are you still here? Five hundred million... I don't know what...
I have so much work! I'm a serious person, I'm not up to chatter! two yes
five to seven...
- Five hundred million what? - repeated the Little Prince: asking about
anything, he didn't calm down until he got an answer.

The business man raised his head.
- For fifty-four years I have been living on this planet, and for all the time
I was interrupted only three times. For the first time, twenty-two years ago,
a cockchafer flew towards me from somewhere. He made a terrible noise, and then I
made four errors in addition. Second time, eleven years ago
ago, I had an attack of rheumatism. From a sedentary lifestyle. To me
no time to walk around. I am a serious person. Third time... here it is! So,
so five hundred million...
- Millions of what?
The business man realized that he had to answer, otherwise he would not have peace.
“Five hundred million of those little things that are sometimes seen in
air.
- What is it, flies?
- No, they are so small, shiny.
- Bees?
- No. So small, golden, every lazy person looks at it
on them, and dreaming. And I'm a serious person. I have no time to dream.
- A, the stars?
- Exactly. Stars.
- Five hundred million stars? What are you doing with them?
five hundred one million six hundred twenty two thousand seven hundred
thirty one. I am a serious person, I love accuracy.
- So what do you do with all these stars?
- What do I do?
- Yes.
- I'm not doing anything. I own them.
- Do you own the stars?
- Yes.
- But I have already seen the king, who...
“Kings own nothing. They only rule. This is completely different
case.
- And why do you own the stars?
- To be rich.
- Why be rich?
- To buy more new stars if someone opens them.
"He talks almost like a drunkard," thought the little prince.
And he kept asking:
- And how can you own the stars?
- Whose stars? - grumpily asked the businessman.
- Don't know. Draws.
- So, mine, because I was the first to think of it.
- Is that enough?
- Well, of course. If you find a diamond that has no owner -
it means it's yours. If you find an island that has no owner, he
is yours. If you are the first to come up with an idea, you
patent on it: it's yours. I own the stars because no one is before me
didn't think to get hold of them.
"That's right," said the little prince. - And what are you doing with them?
are you doing?
“I manage them,” the businessman replied. I count and count them.
It is very difficult. But I am a serious person.
However, this was not enough for the Little Prince.
- If I have a silk scarf, I can tie it around my neck
and take it with you,” he said. - If I have a flower, I can
rip it off and take it with you. But you can't take the stars!
- No, but I can put them in the bank.
- Like this?
- And so: I write on a piece of paper how many stars I have. Then I put this
paper in a box and lock it with a key.
- And that's it?
- That's enough.
"Funny!" thought the little prince. "And even poetic. But not
it's so serious."
What is serious and what is not serious - the Little Prince understood
in their own way, not at all like adults.
“I have a flower,” he said, “and I water it every morning. At
I have three volcanoes, I clean them out every week. I clean all three, and
faded too. Few things can happen. And my volcanoes, and my
it is useful for the flower that I own them. And there is no stars from you
benefit...
The business man opened his mouth, but could not find anything to answer,
and the little prince went on.
"No, adults are really amazing people," - innocently
he said to himself as he continued on his way.

On the second planet lived an ambitious man.

Oh, here comes the admirer! he exclaimed, seeing the Little Prince from a distance.

After all, vain people think that everyone admires them.

Good afternoon, said the little prince. - What a funny hat you have.

This is to bow, - explained the ambitious. - To bow when they greet me. Unfortunately, no one looks here.

Here's how? - said the little prince: he did not understand anything.

Clap your hands, said the ambitious man.

The little prince clapped his hands. The ambitious man took off his hat and bowed modestly.

"It's more fun here than at the old king's," thought the little prince. And again he began to clap his hands. And the ambitious man again began to bow, taking off his hat.

So for five minutes in a row the same thing was repeated, and the Little Prince got bored.

What needs to be done to make the hat fall? - he asked.

But the ambitious man did not hear. Vain people are deaf to everything but praise.

Are you really my enthusiastic admirer? he asked the Little Prince.

Why, there is no one else on your planet!

Well, give me pleasure, still admire me!

I admire, - said the Little Prince, slightly shrugging his shoulders, - but what kind of joy does this give you?

And he ran away from the ambitious.

“Really, grown-ups are very strange people,” he thought ingenuously, starting on his way.

On the next planet lived a drunkard. The little prince stayed with him for a very short time, but after that he became very unhappy.

When he appeared on this planet, the drunkard sat silently and looked at the hordes of bottles lined up in front of him - empty and full.

What are you doing? asked the little prince.

I drink, - the drunkard answered gloomily.

To forget.

What to forget? asked the little prince; he felt sorry for the drunkard.

I want to forget that I'm ashamed, - the drunkard admitted and hung his head.

Why are you ashamed? - asked the little prince, he really wanted to help the poor fellow.

Good to drink! - explained the drunkard, and no more could be obtained from him.

“Yes, really, adults are very, very strange people,” he thought, continuing on his way.

The fourth planet belonged to a business man. He was so busy that when the Little Prince appeared, he did not even raise his head.

Good afternoon, the Little Prince said to him. - Your cigarette went out.

Three and two is five. Five yes seven - twelve. Twelve and three are fifteen. Good afternoon. Fifteen yes seven - twenty two. Twenty-two and six are twenty-eight. Once a match strike. Twenty-six yes five - thirty-one. Phew! The total, therefore, is five hundred and one million six hundred twenty-two thousand seven hundred and thirty-one.

Five hundred million what?

A? Are you still here? Five hundred million... I don't know what... I have so much work to do! I'm a serious person, I'm not up to chatter! Two yes five - seven ...

Five hundred million what? - repeated the Little Prince: having asked about something, he did not calm down until he received an answer.

The business man raised his head.

I have lived on this planet for fifty-four years, and in all that time I have only been interrupted three times. For the first time, twenty-two years ago, a cockchafer flew towards me from somewhere. He made a terrible noise, and then I made four mistakes in addition. The second time, eleven years ago, I had an attack of rheumatism. From a sedentary lifestyle. I don't have time to walk around.
