Every culture has its own greeting etiquette; there are cliché phrases suitable for any occasion, and more specific wishes applied to specific people and on a specific occasion. It is important to be familiar with this etiquette, because if native speakers can easily forgive you a linguistic mistake, then a cultural one is unlikely. I decided to write this article, because, having acquaintances in France who do not speak English, even at the first stage of my study of French, I had the task of periodically congratulating them on various holidays. This was helped by a blog that offered useful expressions that served as the backbone for my letters and e-mail. I offer you my standardized structure for writing congratulations (although there is more than enough room for imagination; and yet, if you write to loved ones, I recommend coming up with something unique):

2. A detailed congratulation with wishes (template phrases will help you, but they are not enough: you must definitely add something from yourself, add something that will please the person to whom the wish is addressed, make it more personal; I, at least, come up with 3-4 offers).

3. The final phrase and signature of the sender.

Are common
expressions:

I wish you success/ happiness / joy / best of everything / good health / love, etc.
I wish you good luck / happiness / joy / all the best / health / love, etc.

With all my heart I wish you...

Postcard- what could be more beautiful than a small card signed with your own hand? A unique drawing, monograms and magic words can give real pleasure to someone who appreciates real feelings.

Today you will not surprise anyone with an electronic postcard, but the paper version will be the most memorable gift. Still don't know how to please your loved ones?

What to write to you, my friend ... What am I talking about? And I'm talking about what to write on a postcard, how to start and finish, and in general should I follow any rules for writing?

Dear Tom,

Next, you should indicate why you decided to write. If you are responding to a postcard you have already received, answer the questions, if any. Write your own text, after which, on a separate line, write the final phrase

best wishes,
(own name)

Or Love, + name

And below is the address where the postcard should be delivered in the following order:
name and surname of the addressee;
house number, street name;
city, postal code;
a country.

Postcard history

Delving into history, we note that there are several versions of the appearance of the first postcard. It is known that the first of them was created by the English artist Dobson in 1795. A little later, Henry Cole asked his friend John Gersley to help portray something New Year's, resulting in a New Year's card with a winter landscape. Postcards began to gain popularity and were sold with note paper.

The postcard printing boom was gaining momentum in Europe, and these small cards migrated to Russia already in the second half of the 19th century. It was then that famous artists began to make magnificent drawings, which became a real work of art and were guarded like the apple of an eye ( cherish as the apple of one's eye). But the very word "postcard" comes from "open letter". It is also known that the first postcards were called "congratulations". Here you have an old word in Russian, which today will find a place in speech.

Big price for a small card

If you have been to a flea market at least once, you have probably seen not only all sorts of antique beads, cameras, stones, wooden toys, but also postcards. By the way, one such card, issued in England in 1843, was sold for 22,000 pounds. There are only 10 such samples left, and who knows how much it can be sold for in 50 years.

When postcards were already in vogue with might and main, they began to be made independently, applying maximum imagination. So, dried plants, tree branches, fabrics, beads and even boric acid were used to depict snow. Today, few people make postcards, although this business is quite fascinating. Putting your soul into a small work of art, you give a piece of yourself and your love.

Postcrossing: the exchange of postcards around the world

It's no secret that with the advent of smartphones, you can create a postcard online in a second and immediately send it to the recipient, so take the time to make and send a little joy to your friends and relatives. Modernity is quite changeable: yesterday we all read e-books, and today we are buying paper books again, because it is fashionable to read a real book, which, according to Ray Bradbury, is “bread for the hungry”.

The same goes for postcards. At the peak of popularity "postcrossing", which is an exchange of cards between residents of different countries. And this is a truly unique event that each of you can join. Agree, it's quite nice to receive news from Japan, Mexico or the sunny Dominican Republic. You can join this movement here
