On June 2, 2018, the village of Krapivna will host the International Nettle Festival for the sixteenth time. At the beginning of summer, when the stinging plant is just gaining its healing powers, we traditionally gather guests for a holiday in his honor.
According to ancient beliefs, in order to get health, prosperity, love and good luck for a whole year, just at this time of the year you need to “burn yourself” with nettles. Is it possible to find a more successful place than the one on the coat of arms of which “six nettle branches laid by a star named after this city” are depicted?
Masters, artists, musicians from all over the country will gather in the historical center of the old county town, which has hardly changed for a hundred and fifty years, to recharge with the power of nature for the whole year and transfer this energy to the guests of the holiday. The main goal of the festival is the revival of ancient trades and crafts, so each of its sites is associated either with the symbol of Krapivna, or with folk art and the history of this place. Ethno and jazz music will be played throughout the day at the festival.

Excursions and exhibitions in the Krapivensky Museum. 9:00 – 20:00
Visitors will be able to get acquainted with the history of Krapivna as a fortress and a county town and see the exhibition of competitive works "Nettle History".
Museum Street. 12:00 – 22:00
One of the streets of Krapivna will become an open-air museum, where guests will get acquainted with the history of the city and the holiday.
Nettle fights. 12:00 – 19:00
Armed with nettles, the contestants will determine who is the most enduring of them. You can try your hand both in a pair fight and in a team competition. There is only one restriction: you cannot hit the face with nettles.
Fair and master classes. 12:00 – 20:00
Once Krapivensky fairs were famous throughout Russia, merchants from the most remote provinces tried to get to them. Reviving the memory of these distant times, a crafts fair will be located on the central square of Krapivna, where you can buy handicrafts, numerous souvenirs from different regions of Russia, paintings by Tula and Krapivna artists, as well as participate in unique master classes.
– Making nettle thread (12:00 – 19:00). Based on the experience of masters from different regions of Russia, a unique technology for creating a nettle thread was restored, which our guests can learn. Ekaterina and Maxim Zernov, the authors of the Traditional Tula Weaving project, will be among the master class participants.
– Drawing workshop: nettle still life and nettle portrait (12:00 – 19:00). Under the guidance of teachers and students of the Design Department of Tula State University, everyone will be able to create a nettle still life or portrait. Those who are not ready to try their hand at drawing will be able to order their caricature "portrait in nettles". An exhibition and sale of paintings by Tula and Krapivensky artists “Krapivna – the City of Artists” will also be organized.
Food zone: food with nettles. 12:00 – 20:00
Guests of the festival will be able to eat and appreciate the taste of the main symbol of the holiday in the food zone, where dishes and drinks with nettles will be prepared according to the recipes of cuisines of different nations.

In this photo zone, our guests will be able to travel back a century and a half, to the end of the 19th century, the heyday of the county town.

The Farm Cossack Society of the Shchekino District and the Central Cossack Army will present real Cossack amusements: lessons on how to use a sword and cutting a vine under a hat. Those who wish will be able to take a photo in the Cossack right. A special atmosphere at this venue will be created by the Mischievous Busts Ensemble.
Popular science platform "Nettle microworld". 12:00 – 19:00
The most inquisitive guests of the festival were teachers from the Tula Pedagogical University named after V.I. L. N. Tolstoy will tell you why the nettle burns, what happens to its leaves when we touch them, how to get natural dyes from nettles and much, much more.

12:00 - Adelina Moiseeva - quarter-finalist of the Voice project, laureate of the Young Sing Jazz contest.
13:00 - Vasily Senichev - Tula musician, lyricist and vocalist of the Happiness Inside group, participant in the Main Stage 2 project and the Wild Mint festival.
14:30 - Mila Kirievskaya and the Letopis group - Moscow musicians will present author's songs-legends in which the past and the present are intertwined.
16:00 - "La Verdun" - a Tula group performing traditional Scottish and Irish melodies and European medieval music
17:30 – Inna Bondar and Balkanitsa group will present a musical journey through the Balkans, including the music of Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Moldova.
19:30 - art group "Meydeleh" - participants of the show "Main Stage", performing hits of the 50-60-70s, as well as modern songs.

The first Nettle Festival was held in 2003 on the initiative of Vladimir Tolstoy, the then director of the Yasnaya Polyana Museum-Estate. Among the main objectives of the festival is the preservation of Russian culture and the involvement of the general public in the revival of Krapivna, the former county center associated with the life and work of Leo Tolstoy.

This year the festival on the main stage in 12.00 solemnly open Governor's Brass Band of the Tula Regional Philharmonic. Then the musicians of the Tula band will take the stage Kamenskikh Band- Igor Kamenskikh (vocals) and Alexander Shcheglov (guitar). The duet will perform popular pop songs in Italian - by the way, a few years ago, having become the winner of the Five Steps to Olympus competition, Igor Kamensky went to a master class at the Academy of Arts in the Italian city of Pesaro. And after that, he went to conquer the hearts of viewers, passing the selection in the second season of the Voice project.
It is not the first time that guests from the capital will perform in the Tula region - Svetlana Zhavoronkova and group electric soul.

This year, at the Yasnaya Polyana House of Culture, together with them, we celebrated Christmas in the soul style and after that we decided to introduce the musicians to the general public. Moscow regulars of jazz clubs are well aware of the work of Svetlana Zhavoronkova - she is called one of the most interesting soul vocalists in the capital, noting the authenticity of her manner of performance. In 2016, Svetlana became the winner of the Rosa Khutor Estate Jazz competition in the Vocal category.
By the way, Electric Soul guitarist Yuri Novgorodsky will perform on the festival stage with another project - the band Backstage, whose musicians worked with famous Russian bluesmen - Nikolai Arutyunov and Sergey Voronov.

Backstage is one of the first Russian bands to take the jam band format as a guideline - a synthesis of blues, funk, soul, rock with a pronounced improvisational beginning.
This year, together with the anniversary of our holiday, we will celebrate another round date - the thirtieth anniversary of the group "Megapolis". This is not the first concert of the group, which is held as part of the Krapivensky festival: in 2012, Megapolis closed the program of the main venue with a performance dedicated to the 25th anniversary of its creative activity. This time Oleg Nesterov and his musicians will also take the stage as headliners.

The final chord of the festival will be the performance of the creative group Our gentle house- a joint project of DJs, whose work experience on the Tula club scene has two decades. Residents of the group - Dmitry Osipov (DJ Osipov M) and Grigory Barkov (DJ Grib) - will present their experimental set together with the theater of fire "Era".

The trademark of the festival has long been nettle fights. Anyone can take part in three different competitions - "Capture the Flag", "Hold on" and "Wall to Wall". You can try your hand both in a pair fight and in a team competition. The fights will be held by the Vityaz Center for Traditional Culture.
Also, guests of Krapivna are waiting for Amusement town "ZakrutiKha"- here it will be possible to ride on round and pole swings, test dexterity in walking on stilts, compete in battles with bags on a log and play the old Russian game "twist".
