Games about the future and fantastic technologies. Games about the future on PC (PC)

24.09.2019

The player is invited to alternately explore levels of varying difficulty, solve spatial and (rarely) logical problems, find hiding places, destroy as many monsters as possible and survive. The levels are intricate labyrinths with many doors, keys, elevators, shafts, buttons and secret rooms. The gameplay is largely based on the complexity and interactivity of the environment (elevators, presses, other equipment). There are many secret places on the levels.

In total, Doom 3 has 27 levels. The most important element in Doom 3 gameplay is the atmosphere. Most of the levels are made very dark to create a sense of helplessness and scare the player. The game also relies heavily on lighting effects to set the right mood. Gamers called Doom 3 scariest game of all time. A significant role is played by the illogical, but successful find of the developers - the player cannot use a flashlight and a weapon at the same time.

Since Half-Life 2 is a first-person shooter, the game world is always presented from the point of view of Gordon Freeman, so the player unwittingly puts himself in Gordon's shoes. Unreal Tournament

Release date: 2007

Genre: first person shooter

Gameplay in UT3 encourages close combat and constant attack, Improved the balance of melee and ranged weapons. Many weapons have increased damage and rate of fire. Weapons are mostly carried over from previous installments, absolutely unique game modes, great maps and a toolkit for creating custom modifications - everything shows the brilliance and perfection of the Legend.

UT3 is very demanding on the video card: the game refuses to start on sufficiently fast old-generation video cards due to the lack of hardware support for the required functions. But if the game starts, it goes relatively quickly even on rather weak computers, thanks to good optimization and the ability to reduce game detail. All objects, including characters and vehicles, look much more solid from the graphic side.

Fallout 3

Release date: 2008

The gameplay of Fallout 3 is typical for its genre. In single-player mode, the player controls the main character in first or third person, interacts with various characters and active objects, fights with or without weapons, and in some cases solves riddles. The open game world is presented in the form of one large location. The cruel post-war reality requires the player to constantly make decisions in favor of good or evil, taking into account the fact that it is very difficult to observe moral and ethical principles in a post-apocalyptic society. Actually the style of passing and the ending of the game largely depends on the balance of "bad" and "good" deeds.

The battles take place in real time, but with the possibility of using a pause, which is designed to assess the situation and take good aim at the enemy, the game provides for a zonal damage system: shot in the hand - the enemy dropped the weapon. Fallout 3 has the ability to carry out armed attacks on almost all characters in real time with or without the use of various types of weapons. NPCs can attack the main character and each other in the same mode. Weapons that require ammo have a limited magazine capacity and require a period of time to reload.

The behavior of partners is controlled using a special interface ("Satellite Circle"), which allows you to give basic commands without using text dialogue, as in Fallout 3, new types of weapons and a system for modifying them are presented. The weapon modification system allows you to install (and permanently) optical sights, change the rate of fire and magazine size, weight, and damage dealt by weapons. Hardcore mode complicates the game and makes it more interesting, and therefore players have to be careful with wasting resources.

There is a new gear that automatically delivers small doses of Medi-Gel to the body when needed. At the beginning of the game, Medi Gel is used to revive badly injured team members, improve health and increase shield energy. The cover system has been reworked, the shield energy and health reserves have decreased for the characters. home world

Genre: real time strategy,

Computer game, space strategy. published in 1999. On February 25, 2015, a re-release of the game called Homeworld Remastered Collection was released, including the original parts. Well-developed graphics and three-dimensional game space - the implementation of six degrees of freedom of movement of game objects and the presence of thoughtful fleet management in three dimensions. High-quality background pictures of the depths of space, playing the role of battle cards. The storyline is a rich and complex plot that gradually unfolds directly during the game.

In each next game mission, the player receives the fleet with which the player’s entire fleet completed the previous game, according to the legend, after completing the mission, it flies to the next mission. At the beginning of the game, the player can choose either the Kushan fleet or the Taidan fleet: this does not affect the further plot in any way , only combat units change. The entire space fleet is divided into a combat fleet and a support fleet. The support fleet includes special ships, such as a resource collector and controller, a research ship, a probe, a stealth ship detector ship, and a gravity well generator. Support ships do not have weapons.

Space Rangers

Release date: 2002

The game takes place in space, in the distant future, at the beginning of the XXXI century. The Galaxy is inhabited by 5 intelligent civilizations: Maloks, Pelengs, Humans, Faeyans, Gaalians. The plot is based on the invasion of a new, hitherto unknown form of life, the Klisan, into the Galaxy. To fight them, the Space Rangers organization was founded. Definitely refer " Space Rangers»to any game genre is impossible because it combines many genres. The main feature of games is the player's freedom of action. Another important principle appeared in Space Rangers - the world around the hero lives its own life, independent of the player's actions.

The game takes place in turn-based mode, the player gives the order to plot a course, point the onboard weapon, select the wreckage to capture, press the "end of turn" button, and for some time observe the ongoing action in real time without the ability to intervene. The player's ship travels in space between planets and space stations. Each turn in the game corresponds to an in-game day. Before pressing the "end of turn" button, the player can enter into a dialogue with the ships of the commonwealth or scan them, reinstall the equipment from the hold to the ship slot or throw it into the airlock, activate a special artifact. All these actions are performed "out of time" and do not require spending game moves.

Battlefield 2142

Release date: 2006

Genre: tactical first person shooter

For several decades, global cooling began on Earth, which led to a new ice age. People don't have enough space to live. A new world war breaks out, called the Cold War. War for territory, for resources, for life. One of the main distinguishing features of the franchise is the flag capture system on which the gameplay is built and the use of defibrillators, with which doctors can literally resurrect the wounded in skirmishes.

The rules of the main game mode have not changed much. Each team is given a certain number of points, which will decrease due to the successful actions of the opposing team. The troops in the game use machine guns, submachine guns, anti-tank rocket launchers, portable anti-aircraft missile systems, anti-tank rifles, tanks, light jeeps, assault and transport aircraft and armored personnel carriers and etc. Although the weapon is a firearm, it can be assumed that cartridges with some new type of bullets are used, and the gunpowder has apparently been replaced with something with a blue color of gases. Part of the equipment is convertoplanes (aviation) and hovercrafts (PAK tank).

dreamfall

Release date: 2006

Genre: quest

The style of Dreamfall is closest to action-adventure: the player has the opportunity not only to solve puzzles, but also to participate in battles. Some episodes of the game also include elements where the need to sneak unnoticed by enemies and tracking systems, hack electronic devices, etc. The character of the game can die - for example, losing in hand-to-hand combat. In many situations, the player can solve the same problem with different methods - act covertly, use brute force or the art of persuasion. But in general, the gameplay is linear, and the chosen style of passing does not affect the final.

The game is three-dimensional, the characters are controlled by the keyboard - movement and mouse, camera rotation, action. The player controls more than one character, and depending on the plot, periodically switches to one of the three central characters - Zoe Castillo, April Ryan or Kiana Alvane. Unusual dreamfall as an adventure game in that the gameplay is not mainly about solving mysteries, which are few and simple here, but about managing the interaction of characters and traveling around the game world. Between walks, movie-style videos are shown with lengthy dialogues and a choice of response options.

Culpa Innata

Release date: 2007

Genre: quest

The presumption of guilt under this name the game was released in Russia is a quest with a lot of dialogues. The supply of new information is strictly metered and the player does not experience "overload" from an excess of new information. During the game, the player sees and studies the people living in the Union, and life itself there. The name itself from the very beginning gives the player a hint that a terrible flaw lies in the described utopian society. The streets are clean, the concept of "poverty line" no longer exists, there are no diseases, crime has also almost outlived its usefulness ... With every hour of the game, the features of modern society become more and more clearly visible and the whole game turns into a warning to the world community.

The plot is non-linear and the number of options for passing the game is not limited, but there is only one ending. In addition, the plot is not fully disclosed - a clear hint of a sequel. Culpa Innata is that rare case by today's standards when the tasks thrown out do not force you to sigh frowningly: “Oh, well, didn’t they come up with anything sane?” They came up with, implemented and organically fit into the environment. The complexity of the tasks varies and is often screwed up due to plug-in puzzles. With them, in my opinion, there was a little bust, given the "worldly" scope of the adventure. But there is no straining, no excessive wear and tear.

They say that the time machine has not yet been invented. This is not true: computer games about the future take us to amazing, adventurous worlds: futuristic, space, post-apocalyptic... In these worlds you will meet with advanced technologies, incredible races, intergalactic corporations.

Which millennium are you going to?

So, you have a time machine. It remains only to decide on the century and the millennium, where your adventures will begin. Perhaps our mini-review will help you make a choice - the top five games about the future:

  1. Fallout 4 is another part of the famous cycle that takes us to a post-apocalyptic world. The time machine here turns on twice: first, according to the plot, we find ourselves in 2077. Yes, there is a global nuclear mess! After sitting her in the shelter, we are transported 210 years ahead - and here, moms, super mutants, raiders and other dirty tricks! It is urgent to fortify the territory, install turrets around the perimeter, acquire weapons - and survive by fighting!
  2. Call of Duty Black Ops III is a good first-person shooter about the war of the future. Despite the number "three" in the title, it is already the twentieth part of the popular game series. The features of this shooting game about the future are the ability to complete missions with a friend. The action takes place in 2065, where super robots and super soldiers destroy each other with taste. Call of Duty Black Ops III should appeal to even the most hardcore gamers, because on Realistic game over difficulty comes from the first hit.
  3. Half Life 2 is another good sci-fi war shooting game. This is also a first-person shooter, with very realistic physics and advanced animation. An alien civilization invades our planet through a gap in space, formed as a result of the experiments of a secret scientific center. One of the scientists of this center will have to correct the situation. Power suits, synths, zombified specimens, resistance... In general, there is something to do in 13 chapters, which are sequentially connected campaigns.

  1. Dark Orbit is a game for those who want to have a big brawl in the vast expanses of space. The galaxy is divided by three corporations, warships of various models plow space, and scientific technologies help opponents destroy each other with maximum efficiency.

  1. Aeon: Cryohazar - a world where you have a chance. 126,000 solar systems is a grandiose field for confrontation. Who will get valuable resources, whose fleet will thrill all living things within a radius of millions of parsecs? Maybe yours?

Wherever different stories of writers and science fiction writers send us. And to the moon, and to Alpha Centauri, and even to visit the Marsinans, but, nevertheless, the majority furiously wants something like that to happen to the Planet, and the post-apocalyptic will come. Indeed, in half of the novels, the Earth appears before us either as the capital of a powerful human Empire, or as a post-apocalyptic world, with destruction of incomparable proportions.
Also, of course, inventors love to talk for hours about cyberpunk, based on the "great creations" of Gibson and Dick, or to pack our planet with you in a wrapper of alternative history, magic, steampunk and much more. So it turns out that either we come to our senses in an unfamiliar high-rise city, without a credit card, without memory, and once again save the world, or even drink tea with talking leopards and baobabs, chasing wine drunkards and the case of wonderful trills of forest spirits. But it's good when it is.
Basically, we have a bleak gray future, where there is no place for people as an endangered species. Therefore, let's leave the books on the conscience of our merciless "Jules Vernes" and we'd better talk about games, namely about those of their representatives who draw us a hopeless smog from the smoke of factories, glass corporations and "thinking" machines. About the future, which I hope will never come, but which is curious and interesting to look at, just like playing them.

Desolation and anarchy - the first plot

Here you can’t make out who gave the order first, but what happened, then it’s simply impossible to forget.
It was like a supernova explosion, like the deafening scream of a dinosaur, like an incomprehensible disturbing melody that flooded my consciousness. And when it subsided, we all realized that the familiar world no longer exists and will not exist, and what is left of the “old life” can hardly be called a world. Heaps of iron, smoking craters, destroyed houses - now we have become outcasts, a free people without a name and a dream.

And it is he who opens the line of our recollection - the "Messiah" - the one who is allowed a little more than just to exist on Earth. Little angel Bob knows how to inhabit the bodies of other people and subordinate them to his will. Moral choice as such does not exist for him in principle. They said in heaven that people are so mired in sins that the world is basically balancing on a thread, the Antichrist is already gathering his harvest, and only Bob can stop this process of complete apocalypse. And now our little rosy-cheeked cherub arrives as a savior ... of humanity, not people. To people, he shows cynicism and extreme cruelty. To take the body, to penetrate where it is necessary and to throw it away like a rag - that's the whole point of playing with the universe. What will happen to this poor guy next, he doesn’t care, because he is in sin, which means he is an enemy. All around are enemies, and only we are so “white and fluffy”. It is especially encouraged to break the poor fellow's legs or arms so that he cannot call for help or take revenge, or, well, commit suicide. Then Bob jumps out of the unfortunate and looks for the next victim, and so on to the bitter end.

The game itself encourages violence to such an extent that the "agency" and John Mullins working for him were just right to shoot himself with envy. After all, point-blank shotgun shots and guts spilling onto the floor were nothing compared to the chaos and horror Bob had sown.

Dirty brown streets, houses, corridors of the "Messiah", "live" toys of an angel, clogged and closed creatures - this is the essence of this world, you don't even need to invent a catalyst, it is already on the verge of death, and a cherub soiled in soot is only an extra witness this.

Afterfall: Insanity

The nuclear strike has overtaken Europe as well, everyone is hiding in bunkers, and few can even go free. Military secret bases, cities of many scenery, and not a drop of sunlight. People live here for centuries, not knowing anything about the world around. They become decrepit, die, create descendants for themselves, but everyone sits in this artificial world, afraid to open up. And they go crazy. Slowly, little by little, and then only sparks, one randomly thrown word is enough to completely go crazy, and releasing a deadly poison or killing friends are only the first steps to complete insanity.

Project Eden

The world of "Judge Dredd", separating the good and bad sides of people's lives, is fully manifested in this project, showing all the abandonment, lifelessness and mustiness of the old quarters, where the criminals fled.

To capture them, a very unusual now, but long practiced later, team of people and cyborgs was sent, carrying the triumph of justice and correctness with the inevitability of RoboCop.

There are no right people in this world, as well as honest ones, but there are those who try to adapt to these laws, and those who create their own. And let the trip to the paradise of abandoned, half-collapsed skyscrapers be short, it fully copes with its task, to show that there is nothing ideal in the world of “ideal laws”. And the maximum that a person can hope for is to be on that "illuminated" side of the streets.

hard reset

There is no anarchy and desolation here, but everything is bad anyway. The world was captured by "crazy machines" that "by someone's evil command" got out of control. Further, in principle, everything. We run and destroy them. The whole game, until the very end.

But the world is worthy of mention, people now live in such closed compartments-sectors. In these compartments, life boils and seethes, but not in all. There are also those who are constantly at risk and in danger of being captured, and it is they who are patrolled by the cyber police of the city. And you will become one of these cybercops. As I understand it, there is a wasteland outside the city in the “best traditions of Fallout”, there is no life, and therefore the story and plot are concentrated in it, in this cyberpunk world of its own.

And they did it, looking back at the "landmarks" of the genre - Blade Runner and Deus Ex. Just like in Deus and Blade, neon signs are crammed everywhere with flying vehicles flying by, cheap signs of nanoshops are full of ads and offer to buy bioadditives at a “reasonable price”, and wind-blown garbage from fallen tanks nearby makes you feel more and more melancholy. People do not live here, they exist and do not even think about something else.

Fragile: Farewell ruins of the moon

Fragile is amazingly atmospheric, the story of a deserted world, a boy talking to ghosts and a lost father will forever remain in your hearts. A merchant in a chicken mask, a shadow in an amusement park, and just a girl illuminated by the moon in an abandoned depot will make you shudder with fear more than once. The world of Fragile is silent and hopeless, but at the same time alive and bright in its own way. Ghosts with unfinished business, a smart computer program chatting incessantly, a silent hotel caretaker and others create a feeling of life around. And the memories of things thrown by someone illuminate this world with new colors. Fragile is extraordinarily beautiful, soft watercolor graphics of characters, an observatory illuminated by the moon, an abandoned subway line, a carousel that has stopped and other details evoke a feeling of delight. Well, beautiful videos and a charming melody only emphasize this feeling.

Darksiders

Well, then God himself commanded, and it happened. Apocalypse - seriously and for a long time. Everyone died, no one is alive, except for hellish creatures and demons and angels who punish them. In general, just a place for four bosom horsemen-friends, three of which fell into the clutches of higher powers, leaving War to be devoured by one. But he is not lost and goes to save them. Along the way, clearing out entire hordes of divine and infernal enemies, gaining new supporters in the person of Moebius and "no less" cute creatures.

The world itself is an excellent, “canonical” apocalypse, as artists paint it for us. There are no people, everything is broken, charred and uprooted. Skyscrapers gape with empty holes in their eye sockets, cars stand dead weight, and cracks in the ground from which flames burst out are the natural environment for this time of year. A bleaker future can no longer be, believe me.

Metro 2033

Nuclear war, which thundered just recently, destroyed all life on earth. Entire cities lie in ruins, the atmosphere has become uninhabitable, and radiation gives rise to new forms of life, eager to destroy all life. So Moscow did not escape such a fate. The only survivors huddle in the musty corridors of the subway, which has turned into a real small country with its station-cities and the capital Polis with the Supreme Council that governs it. Yes, life is not the same as before, you only have to dream about fresh air, but everything is not so bad. People gradually adapted to survive, but rat meat, if boiled, turns out to be very tasty. For those who want to frolic in the vicinity of the dead city, nimble merchants are ready to sell any weapon, but especially experienced stalkers become scouts. Sometimes you can even hear their stories in a camping bar, for vodka, of course. And if you're lucky, then ride on a working railcar.

But the calm life soon comes to an end, at distant stations people begin to disappear without asking, and no one knows who eats them. Rumor has it that even one reconnaissance detachment disappeared, and there were a hundred people there, no less. And that in the empty eye sockets of the Ostankino tower in the evenings someone kindles fires. Terrible and wrong is happening in the world, in the world of empty and cold Moscow.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

The war of robots, large and small, is long gone, but the catastrophic consequences remain. Mankind perished without having time to create anything. Those that remain are “settlements” in the bosom of beautiful “monuments” to global chaos, and indefatigable pieces of iron that have learned to do without fuel. And so - everywhere dense forests and jungles. The cities are overgrown with green mass, the battlefields have turned into a dump of a different temple, and autonomous underwater stations where titans are kept into closed bunkers, which are not easy to get to. Countries and continents also disappeared from the global map, replacing the vast world with a miraculously surviving road to the city and back. And now they move on strange, bizarre vehicles, motorcycles, wagons, gravidosks - in general, on everything that has more or less survived. But each such “appearance” is deadly. Either long-forgotten robots will suddenly come to life from a carelessly thrown loud sound, or even worse - assemblers will fly in and, through simple operations, will make you part of the program. And people - they are no longer quoted, only as a "valuable resource" against the background of the unity of nature and the remains of the "last war".

Fallout
Fallout 2

(at the request of vacationers)
Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel
Fallout 3
Fallout: New Vegas

The "icon" of all games about a bleak future. Survival after a nuclear war. One big wasteland instead of the United States of America and the "laws of the Wild West", only with destroyed bridges, houses and everything that was once called "blooming civilization". Mutants, marauders, robbers, robbers and “not crazy” inhabitants of the Vault-tech bunkers form a single unique post-apocalyptic world, a bright future in which are only words scrawled on the half-torn door of the Springwood Hills school, someone’s gnawed bones are lying nearby , a machine gun and an unfinished bottle of Nuka-Cola - all that's left of a curious ranger.

New era - second plot

The future approaches, comes and collapses you without a trace. It seems that everything is as usual, but gravikars fly, the parking bill itself is displayed on your glasses, and instead of mountain, clear water and fresh bread, cheap synthetics from robotic companies nearby lie down for breakfast. This is a new time, there are no villainous corporations, a person's life is not in the hands of secret organizations, but simply the world is changing a little, indulging people's emotions.

The Longest Journey
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey

The "Incredibly Long Journey", despite the fabulous and vibrant Arcadia, also has a twin comrade - Stark. This world seems to be copied from science fiction art about the future of the 80s, the same cheap rooming houses, a student district with toxic water, proudly called the "New Venice", cluttered and semi-functional starships in spaceports, hackers hiding in the basement and spat on the subway with drug addicts in every wagon. And in this world, two girls so different from each other are lucky to live - April Ryan and Zoe Caldera. One is an aspiring artist who moonlights in the evenings in a dim cafe nearby, the other is a “free as the wind” teenager from sunny Cape Town. But, by chance, their destinies intersect like never before. One is destined to save the world and drown in conflicting feelings, the other will never get out of a coma, plunging headlong into a strange dream about a distant deceitful house hiding on the edge of the mind. And for six years now we have been breathlessly waiting for the continuation of one of the best fairy tales of this time.

Rollcage Stage II
Wipeout Fusion
F-Zero GX

Here we have futuristic racing. Huge halls with fans, fireballs of the most incredible shapes and sizes, commentators from all over the world, crazy drive and the absence of gravity in principle. Some even add spice, making you fight on the track with the help of special boosters and power-ups, as if there were so few obstacles. And they all give their mixed feelings.

Rollcage runs on the twitchy emotions of adrenaline, fireballs rush at 400-500 km.sec. along narrow, twisted tracks, from which it is so good to fly into the cosmic abyss. And you fly off, and anger is added to the speed, and you already look at the monitor screen so unkindly, intending to throw something heavier at it than your “beloved” rodent.

And it is remembered by a riot of colors - enchanting special effects splashing in all directions and smoothing the impression of this race in different parts of the world, but mainly through tunnels and pipes of different diameters.

Wipeout is completely different - there is no adrenaline in principle, only cold calculation and patience sparkling with steel. All this cold and repulsive it will be of interest only to professionals, but not to racing fans. Yes, there you can undermine rivals using all sorts of tricks, but this does not make her less cold and aloof. What can not be said about the tracks flying over the city, then on different planets, and then in huge stadiums filled to the brim with spectators.

F-Zero, on the other hand, represents a slightly different future, similar to Wipeout, but as friendly as possible to people. Where cold skyscrapers bored, a competent play of colors and an endless parade of 32 fireballs pleases and warms the soul, and the excitement, blunted by the compulsion to become a pro, is gaining momentum again, stocking up on drive for many minutes ahead.

Culpa Innata

Tough immigration policy, cordons after cordons against other "not involved in this world" people, identification of everything and everything, from work to records from personal life. Wiretapping and verification, taken as a basis, like hundreds, millions of laws that simplify an already difficult life, as well as the sinister secrets of the "powerful of this world" show us a complete picture of one of the most atmospheric detective stories of past years. I advise you not to miss in any case.

Neo-world in its full manifestation. Of course, it is difficult to call what we see and call it the world, just separate sketches, but all these “fashionable” transitions from dirty and narrow streets to clean and illuminated avenues, robotic water purification factories, underground implant clinics, regular flights to Mars and the latest orbital stations allow you to feel the approximate atmosphere of life on Earth in the near future.

Villainous corporations - plot three

They rule the world, they put chips in your head, they start an "arms race", they develop the killer robots of the future and they are the alpha and omega of this world. After all, basically, the plot twists between the confrontation between these two giants.

Tokyo Bubblegum Crisis is good for everything but life. The identical empty glass corridors along which the brisk lady cleans out the guards personify the whole of today's New Tokyo, with its evening lights and hundreds, if not thousands of "big anthill" workers. Corporations rising to extraordinary heights, an endless number of smaller office boxes and another villainous plot ending in "drama". This is the whole cyberpunk of the upper world - artificial, devoid of zest and infinitely far from reality, entangled in the braid of its tentacles-wires. And the plot suits him - the prevention of a global threat, expressed in a fight with a million bored special forces, reluctantly doing their job.

Mirror's Edge

In the near future, people ruled by global corporations, rules and laws have entered modern life as naturally as burgers and sodas. Weekends are spent in the bosom of nature in specially designated places, living in megacities and centers, according to corporate ethics, peacefully coexist with each other. The bar of crime is record low, at first glance - an ideal place. But is it really so?

Information cannot be hidden or hidden, all of it is in the public domain, but only that which suits the new order. Those who need its true essence turn to the "running". They can deliver everything you need quickly for a reasonable fee. And speed here is not just a word, but also the meaning of life.
One of these "running" you will have to become in the game. You are working beyond the bounds, which means the whole world is against you. You have to rely only on your own strength, but in order to convey the message on time, you need to accelerate. After all, there are only 5 minutes left.

These minutes are the quintessence of the "running", except for them nothing matters anymore. And the faster running becomes, the more amazing the world around and freedom appears ...

An unusually realized parkour story about one screw that has messed up the lubricated mechanism of general zombie happiness for years organically joins the list of the next "corporate" projects.

Project: Snowblind

An earlier future, one capture group, one wrong day and all life flying into the abyss. Next - battles with endless cybers, soldiers and stuff like that. The world has not yet had time to properly feel the spirit of cyberpunk, but the prerequisites are already clearly visible. Robotic soldiers in the service of the military-industrial complex, implants that replace first-aid kits and dressings, and a new look at all this from the outside. Maybe not the best representative of this genre, but supporting it.

Syndicate

Everything is “according to the canons” here - there is a mega-uber-Eurocorp with its grown-up chipped soldier-agents, there are other giants of the same field. The rest of the world is under their heel. Chips replace family, street, life. Finding information - that's what's important now. The "technology race" is constantly flying forward, agents are dying in batches, trying to borrow technology that did not belong to them, and the world is slowly slipping into a dystopia.

Binary Domain

A Japanese take on the anthem to corporate villainy. The insidious and greedy Americans stole plans for the development of artificial intelligence from the brilliant designer Yamada and immediately published the Geneva Convention stating that from now on "artificial intelligence" is banned. Shocked by such impudence, Amada did not put up with the Yankees, and created his masterpiece, far ahead of the present. Then, as it happens, the superbrain got out of control and began to take revenge with terrible force. And the Rise of the Machines began.

"Binary Domination" begins exactly when a special forces group sent by the state government, with the money of the Bergen corporation - the very one that stole the prototype, is trying to find and take the genius Amada alive. It is not very easy to do this, because New Tokyo is fenced with a huge wall around the entire perimeter and declared a restricted area, and any penetration will be equated with an invasion and then war cannot be avoided. However, it can’t be avoided anyway, because pieces of iron and people never got along with each other (remember only reinstalling Windows or freezing the computer), so a “hot welcome” is provided to our “friendly” team. A million terminators are just waiting for the command to tear the poor guys into forty small star-striped pieces.

The "canons" are observed almost strictly - only robots, the underground and people of the "upper chic streets and squares" live in the city of robots, respectively, the food is synthetic, the sky is shielded, and instead of living smiles - tortured half-grimaces that have not yet adapted to changing the world. And it only causes bleak feelings.

Deus Ex
Deus Ex: Invisible War
Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Cyberpunk it is, it captures without a trace. At first, you just wander through the dimly lit streets, inhaling the clouds of smog and listening to the next chatter of prostitutes around the corner. And then you realize that you live in it. The lanterns already seem familiar, the poisonous green color is taken for granted, and the coffin beds in a cheap flophouse are the only way to relax and forget.

Deus Ex is true cyberpunk, one where corporations rule the world, implants are gaining popularity, and morality is a ghost on the road to vice. Where there is no place for empty sentiments, where there is an ideological war, and there are no good and bad. There is only gray, in the camouflage of which the main character lives - one of the most humane heroes in the history of video games.

Deus Ex is no longer a game, but such a philosophy of the century of the past and the near future with great gameplay, an impressive storyline and an excellent atmosphere.

Journey to other worlds - plot four

Somewhere in a galaxy far, far away...
Many planets scattered throughout the great cosmos, each with its own conditions and laws. Some are mired in civilization. Others, she avoided. Still others exist in general only because they are a transit point, the fourth attract adventurers from all over the galaxy, and the fifth ... it’s better not to go there at all. And everywhere you and I are waiting for such adventures that we never dreamed of, but the future in them cannot be called a bit joyful.

Anachronox

Anachronox is a planet that exists only because of the valuable resource that is mined in these internal mines that always stink of miasma. It is not surprising that over the years a real "paradise" has grown here for cunning, robbers and adventurers of all stripes. The laws here are mostly arbitrary, whatever one may say, and a good club decides the outcome of the duel, the police are more for the sake of appearances, and the hired detective is absolutely useless if he is Sly "Sylvester" Boots.

"Anachronox" is a place you get used to so much that you don't even want to fly anywhere. Naturally, there is no money, the rooming house is expensive, and every now and then you hear from random passers-by “I’m going to commit suicide.” Pneumolifts are carried away skyscrapers, at times the floor changes to the ceiling and the laws of gravity operate "in so far as", but you want to eat something, it's a pity that all things either smell like dirty socks, which the informant loves so much, or an even more tart smell, for example, coup d'état.

Gemini Rue

And the morning came again.
Professor Korshnev looked at this sluggish, helpless sky, pulled his battered gray jacket tighter and remained standing at the bus stop. Five minutes later, nothing had changed, the bleak landscape was still gray in the distance, and because of the turn, nothing even thought to look out. With one hand he found a worn lighter in his pocket, with the other a crumpled pack of cigarettes, took one out of them, brought it to his mouth and was just about to light it, when clouds of dust raised by a dilapidated vehicle appeared in the distance.
The bus stopped silently, allowing the professor to climb into his belly, then slowly and forcefully closed, turned around and drove back to a brighter strip of the horizon, barely visible in the faded morning sky. The shaking here was terrible, but the professor was already used to it.She did not cause him any inconvenience and slowly drove his mortal body to the same job for fifteen years. The road was still the same deserted, and only after about an hour they finally reach the highway, which will carry high-speed supply lines to a small world of a nearby town ...

... The good old "old school" quest begins on one backward planet, where the detective willy-nilly has to find one guy and uncover a worldwide conspiracy, but for now, he's a stranger here, after the war everyone survives as best he can and the losing side is not at all in favor , even such a thing as finding a starship is a very risky scam, as well as flying away from these outer worlds ...

A dead world, a planet where there was nothing, and everything would have remained so if not for the first ship of the colonists. Everything is going well, the team is immersed in suspended animation and he enters the atmosphere, but then ...

... The only survivor wakes up many, many years after that and sees anarchy, lawlessness and lawlessness in front of him - an early form of the formation of the "Wild West", where every man is for himself, there are settlements headed by sheriffs, and then the land belongs to different gangs, who during the years of his reign on it arranged something like their shelters and caches, and mutants who became so because of the toxin abundantly spilled on the wasteland. In general - the same "Fallout", only chambered, small and only in "action" mode, because there is nothing else there.

Bullet Storm

A lost paradise drifting in the depths of space. A "typical" tourist planet with unprecedented attractions now lying in ruins, a waking nightmare with crazy mechanisms, ragged marauders and other "beautiful" public come face to face with no less "iconic" characters - a former military man, and now the most dangerous and wanted pirate - Grayson Hunt and his "love" General Sarano, whom Hunt set out to wipe out.

And since they have nothing to lose, and even more so for the locals, a “nationwide fun” called “kill as much as you can” begins, diluted along the way with catastrophes of unimaginable scale. Either a ride on a dinosaur, or the destruction of a dam, or the complete demolition of one small planet, or something else. And everyone is happy, everyone participates, everyone is happy, and the world is plunging into the abyss ... for the second time in a row.

Top 100 fantasy games

"World of Science Fiction" continues the series of articles about the best, most prominent and most significant representatives of various genres. Today we bring to your attention a list of 100 games. When compiling it, we tried to take into account the whole range of opinions. Unfortunately, some very worthy projects did not get into it, but it could not be otherwise: there are much more than 100 good games. But those that were included - the minimum cultural baggage of any self-respecting fan of virtual fiction.

Role-playing games

The Elder Scrolls (1994-2006)

In this series of games, everything is big and there is a lot of everything. World? The biggest one ever in RPGs. Characters? Most of all (750 thousand in Daggerfall, for example). Classes? Get tired of scrolling the list. And so on and so forth. Truly, this series of games is the most epic of all. By the way, the ancient scrolls (those very elder scrolls) appear only in the fourth part of the game; however, it is still impossible to read them.

Deus Ex (2000-2003)

Divine game-from-the-machine, cyberpunk duology with an incomparably developed universe, dynamic shootouts and a great storyline. 2052, conspiracy theories, viruses and nanotechnology; Deus Ex - a mixture of shooter and role-playing game, with a palpable aftertaste of "X-Files". The main game of 2000 according to many respected sources (Metacritic, IGN and others). Looking forward to part 3 in 2009.

Megami Tensei (1987-2007)

One of the most popular RPG series in Japan, it has a dozen parts and many branches. Megami Tensei's concepts are dark as hell and are closely tied to demonology, teleology, and apocalyptic scenarios. Thanks to the talented (for the most part) scripts and the work of artist Kazumo Kaneko, the series is markedly different from other representatives of the genre.

Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (2001)

One of the best steampunk role playing games. Here, technology coexists with fantasy, drawings of devices are scattered around the world, and magicians quite successfully launch fireballs. True, magicians begin to miss at the sight of a gun, and it, in turn, begins to smear where magic happens. The game has a lot of flaws and outright blunders (an obvious imbalance in favor of magic), but a high-quality plot and an interesting game world save the situation.

Mass Effect (2007)

A high-budget shooter/RPG hybrid designed to revolutionize the way you interact with non-playable characters. The revolution did not work, but we got an epic adventure of the crew of the Normandy spacecraft and travel between the stars, accompanying the vicissitudes of a surprisingly talented story. Best Sci-Fi Game of 2007 according to MF.

Igroization

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003-2005)

400 years before it all started... Wait, didn't you play? Let's not spoil then. Before you is a role-playing game for a solid "top ten" in the Star Wars universe and its more or less mediocre continuation. Game system d20; battles with a tactical pause; lightsabers; funny mini-games and a well-realized universe; movie-worthy dialogue... If you haven't played, we sincerely wonder why you're still here!

Vampire the Masquerade (2000-2004)

Redemption (2000) and Bloodlines (2004) are two independent (made by different developers) adaptations of the famous RPG. They are for those who have dreamed all their lives to taste the life of a vampire. Intrigue, a dynamic plot, an abundance of characters - and all this in the most elaborate vampire universe. Especially good is Bloodlines, the main game of 2004 according to MF.

Star Wars: TIE Fighter (1994)

The iconic simulator of the iconic fighter, the favorite gaming fetish of all Star Wars fans, made it possible to experience firsthand what it looks like to fly a ship without protective fields. The plot and dialogues at the level of Wing Commander, the most famous universe - what else is needed for happiness? Unless the graphics resolution is better than 320*200. Do you agree? Welcome to the extended version of 1996: there are 640 * 480.

Mech Warrior (1989-2002)

An excellent simulation of controlling a huge combat robot, based on the famous original BattleTech universe developed by FASA. When many games of this genre moved towards arcade action games, Mech Warrior remained a solid simulator that knew such concepts as weight, weapon overheating, limited number of charges, team tactics, and so on.

Star Wars: Jedi Knight (1997-2003)

The ancestor of this iconic action series in the Star Wars universe was Dark Forces (1995). The protagonist of the entire series (except Jedi Academy) is Kyle Katarn, the main intrigue is the choice of the side of the Force. Almost all plots are connected with betrayal. You control a Jedi, fight with lightsabers and use the Force with might and main. What else is needed for happiness?

Eye of the Beholder (1990-1993)

Take party mode Might & Magic with a traditional eye view, add hot fights in the style of, scary to say, Doom, knead everything with the style of Dungeons & Dragons. This game was the best of those where the four heroes dangled through a long dungeon and clobbered monsters, gaining levels and collecting gear. Actually, at that time they were called so - "beholdriks".

Command & Conquer: Red Alert (1996-2008)

In 1946, Albert Einstein travels back in time and kills Hitler to prevent World War II. Unrestrained by anyone, Stalin immediately tries to crush Europe with the iron heel of the suddenly victorious communism. This real-time strategy series is one of the best gaming alternatives. And, probably, one of the most spreading, most bantering cranberries of the gaming industry.

Black & White (2001-2006)

God simulator with strategy and tamagotchi elements. They pray to you, bring gifts and ask you to perform a miracle. If there is no desire to indulge the fans, you can try on the guise of the devil and rule hard. At leisure, it is allowed to frolic with a pet the size of a skyscraper. Although a lot of the promised goodies fell off the game during the development process, the rest was enough for a strong masterpiece.

Home world (1999-2003)

In search of the home world, a huge mother ship breaks through an unfriendly sector of space. Throwing everyone indiscriminately into the midst of a landfill is not worth it: troops are transferred from mission to mission, and there will be no reinforcements until the end of the game. All that remains is boarding and the use of trophies. Let's add a strong storyline and honest 3D - that's a great series of strategies "about space" is ready.

Galactic Civilizations (1994-2007)

"Civilization" in space. Espionage, diplomacy, accelerated initial colonization and subsequent settlement and defense of the captured. It differs from its main competitor - Master of Orion - in much more detailed micromanagement. Well, and the fact that the series is still alive.

X2: The Threat (2003)

One of the most successful PC-variations on the theme of "Elite". Trading and combat space sim with a plot, characters, pirates, evil aliens and all other delights of this genre. 70 types of ships and a hundred and more space sectors - this is a scale that cannot be ignored. The gameplay is unhurried, but the attention to detail and the amount of play options are amazing.

Colony Wars (1997-2000)

One of the brightest console "flying games" of the notorious studio Psygnosis. The point is not that the virtual space in it was painted by the impulses of energy guns. The epic plot, which turned into a serious sci-fi drama by the third part, lightning-fast battles in a vacuum, a non-linear scenario and many video screensavers of amazing quality - these are the calling cards of the game.

Aquanox (2001-2003)

Humanity has gone under water. Why, why - it doesn't matter; it is important that before us - almost the only adequate "underwater simulator". This is Elite through the prism of water. A game that showed that a couple of kilometers below sea level is not a reason for frustration. Once it drove even the most productive systems into a coma. Now you can laugh at the graphics of the game. More precisely, it would be possible - if we had an alternative.

Duke Nukem 3D (1996)

A troublemaker who came to our souls when 3D Realms decided to take revenge on the creators of the Doom series. Walls are now able to explode, monsters now grow and shrink, and the management of natural needs ... restores health. Duke is a flash of emotion in the rifle cold of the shooter genre. And we still hope that someday he will become Forever.

Halo (2001-2007)

The legendary series that set a lot of records in its time. The first part sold out in huge numbers and contributed to the popularization of the Xbox console, remaining its main attraction for a long time. The saga of the super-soldier John introduced the vogue of switching between first-person and third-person views, driving vehicles, and using a self-healing health bar.

Quake (1996-2006)

Quake must not be forgotten. The brainchild of John Carmack for the first time showed us what a fully 3D shooter should look like, in which there is no place for sprites. The concepts of "esports" and "machinima" were also born along with Quake. By the fourth part, the cult series has somewhat lost ground, but it still has stroggee aliens!

Aliens vs. Predator (1999-2002)

The best crossover in the gaming industry. Hurry up to see: a shooter with three playstyles that are completely different from each other! Among other things, in this game, the standard for working with dynamic lighting was actually set and it was shown that the enemies should not only walk on the floor, but smartly jump on the walls. Not in scripted scenes, but always.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007)

The most successful "Soviet post-apocalypse", an action movie about the Zone, a free retelling of "Roadside Picnic". Soviet landscapes a la "a dying collective farm", radiation and anomalies, scientists and stalkers, "Duty" and "Freedom", the Monolith of Desires and the Research Institute "Agroprom". Seven endings and the most recognizable Ukrainian brand under which novelization books are baked like pies.

Metroid (1986-2008)

Metroids are creatures artificially created by the alien race Chozo to fight the Parasite X disease. But the disease is defeated, and now the metroids themselves have become a threat! This game in a futuristic setting gave the player unprecedented freedom of movement and was the first in the genre, which used scrolling left and right.

Another World (1991)

The creation of Eric Chahi was at one time a real breakthrough in the field of twinning games with films. An unprecedented level of cinematography, making Another World look like a full-length sci-fi action movie, fell in love with the game right from the intro.

Devil May Cry (2001-2008)

Surprisingly, this project, created from a discarded version of Resident Evil 4, managed to significantly shake up the action genre, give players a sharp-tongued hero and turned into a series that is ready to be replenished with a fifth part in the next few years. Unfortunately, the latest acrobatic sketches of the demon fighter Dante cannot be compared in quality with the first part.

Jak & Daxter (2001-2004)

Evolving from a beautiful platform game, the series has absorbed so many elements of game mechanics that it has become something like Grand Theft Auto. Cartoon style and anime-like big-eyed characters did not detract from its seriousness. The game that spawned two branches was captivated by a rather gloomy plot, a gigantic game world and a certain non-linearity of the passage.

Shadow of the Colossus (2005)

In order to describe the main advantages of Fumito Ueda's creation, it is enough to hum mysteriously. Emotions are difficult to convey in words, and the impact of the spiritual continuation of the canonical Ico occurs precisely on an emotional level. 16 giants who need to bleed the nameless hero, phenomenal atmosphere and masterful use of visual and sound elements to create it - the game sinks into the soul for a long time.

Tekken (1994-2007)

Tekken is translated as "iron fist". Before us is a series of great fighting games with a good (for such games) plot and a unique control system. The fighting styles in this fighting game are conveyed so well that even professional fighters respectfully speak of it. A successful and addictive game with a bunch of fantastic characters.

Street Fighter (1987-2008)

Genre patriarch. The first fighting game to introduce the concept of "combos" - a series of deadly moves carried out with a certain sequence of keystrokes. The game spawned a powerful cult: films were made on it, comics were drawn, card games and even role-playing games were made. The apotheosis of the era of general fashion for kung fu and karate. The best game in the series is considered the second part, in 2008 the fourth should be released.

Lineage (2001-2008)

The leader in the number of users, which easily outdoes even the magnificent World of Warcraft. The popularity of "Ruler" is comparable only to the kawaii Ragnarok. In terms of the number of man-hours that need to be invested in stupid farming, it is the absolute leader among all multiplayer games. But what a beautiful one!

Ultima Online (1997-2008)

Grandmother of the online genre, whose place is in the museum of rarities and valuables; however, the game, contrary to skeptics, is very cheerfully breathing its last! Nine expansions have already been released, with new ones promised in 2008. By the way, Ultima was the first game where you could buy your own house. Now the screenshots from it look stupid and naive, but ten years ago they looked much more attractive.

Adventures

The Neverhood (1996)

"Plasticine crow" of the game world, an odyssey of a clay man in a clay country. The game is known to Russian players under the name "Do not believe in bad things." It took three tons of plasticine to create this quest. There are imitators, but there are no worthy rivals. A masterpiece, one and only.

Fahrenheit (2005)

A successful attempt to stir up the stagnant adventure game genre. Cinematography is at the forefront here. David Cage's project is reminiscent of an interactive film with limited but limited freedom of action. Not only the ending depends on the choice of the player, but also many key moments of the plot. A bold experiment with a well-developed script, explicit scenes and a lot of unexpected decisions.

Tsukihime (2000)

We have text quests almost forgotten. Renai are popular in Japan. - games-books with simple graphics and branched, looped narrative. And the standard of the genre is Tsukihime (“Moon Princess”), a tangled tangle of lies and fear, which you re-read again and again without stopping, trying to understand: what was really there ...

Loom (1990)

Launching this game is like opening an old book with yatami: at the first moment it hurts the eye. But looking at the strange world woven on the loom, touching the unique interface that requires the player to have a musical ear, you understand: not only is it not outdated, but even today it would be a bold experiment.

Syberia (2002-2004)

The steampunk quest series, developed by the notorious artist and writer Benoit Sokal, has taken the entire adventure genre to a whole new level. A kind and slightly naive story about the search for shaggy mammoths on a miracle train. It captivates with sincerity, original puzzles, interesting characters and incredible landscapes.

triumphant returns

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003)

When Ubisoft developers swung at a remake of the "Prince of Persia" itself, cynics twisted their fingers at their temples, and old fans began to bite their nails together. However, the resulting action was beyond praise. In the game mechanics, the Prince's acrobatic skills and the ability to stop time were most actively involved. Later, this combination became fashionable among developers.

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (2006)

The continuation of the brilliant quest The Longest Journey (1999) turned out to be not only a technical refinement of the original source. The gameplay has moved into the realm of action, without losing, however, traditional puzzles. The main feature of its predecessor remained untouched: the approach to writing a script. Motor Man Ragnar Tornqvist has created a wonderful continuation of the ironic adventure fantasy.

Bioshock (2007)

The ideological continuation of System Shock dived from the depths of space to the bottom of the ocean. However, salt water did not wash out creative ideas from designers. The ability to shoot at anything that moves, in BioShock, is adjacent to the prospect of destroying enemies with supernatural powers. The integrity of the game world and the need to survive in it provided the game with the highest critical acclaim.

Final Fantasy (1987-2008)

Reference Japanese role-playing game

The list of platforms to which this series of games was ported does not include only irons and refrigerators. A total of 12 major games have been released (Final Fantasy XIII is currently in development), plus more than three dozen projects with worlds and characters from the main series. Before us - the most unique, famous game universe and one of the best Japanese role-playing game series. He does not interfere at all (rather, even helps) the fact that each game is its own world and plot, and not the development of the previous part. But what a pleasure to look for intersections in them!

Fallout (1997-2008)

Reference Isometric RPG

Two role-playing games in this series turned the world upside down. The post-apocalypse has received the best gaming incarnation, which so far no one has been able to surpass. S.P.E.C.I.A.L. became one of the best role-playing mechanisms. We saw the final video, which was composed of various endings of all storylines, and realized what the expression "everything is in your hands" means. This series has its own bible, great vault combat and an incomparable story. She does not yet have only one - the third part. But we hope, we wait and we believe.

doom

First person shooter benchmark

Doom for the shooter genre is like Nikolai Pegasov for MF. John Carmack's first game, whose title he borrowed from the film The Color of Money, explained what first-person shooters should look like. The term deathmatch is a product of Doom. The first console game to be rated M (17+) is Doom. Is there life on Mars? We do not know, but hordes of demons and a portal to hell are definitely there. Don't believe? Urgent in Doom!

World of Warcraft (2004-2008)

Reference MMORPG

This MMORPG has been predicted by death and oblivion for three years now. Graphic arts? Come on, it's more grotesque than beautiful. Quests? Oh yes, there are many and they are different - but at the highest levels, no one really needs them. World? Big, famous (see Warcraft nearby), but freely learned in a couple of months of leisurely play. So why the hell did she not only not die in three years, but gain 10 million subscribers?! A riddle over which the best minds of the planet are struggling. And the players - just enjoy the world, which is able to fall in love with themselves at first sight.

Metal Gear Solid (1998-2008)

The benchmark for stealth action

The legendary series and the legendary protagonist Solid Snake have exchanged their third decade this year. Metal Gear is the first stealth-action game where security guards learn how to work together. In addition, the series is known for the longest cutscenes, the character addressing the player directly (with the requirement to reconnect the game controller) and a huge number of "ghosts" - hidden portraits of developers. We are waiting for what will surprise us with the fourth part - by the time the magazine is published, it should already be on sale.

Starcraft (1998)

The standard of esports discipline

Zerg, Terran and Protoss converge to the death in the name of the imperishable studio Blizzard. Three fundamentally different races, carefully polished balance, Raynor and Kerrigan, Mutalisks and Propylons... Icon of esports! Nobody officially published the game in Russia, but you played it anyway, right? Don't worry, we won't tell anyone. Let's better wait together for the release of the second part, which, praise the Almighty, can be purchased quite legally.

Warcraft (1994-2003)

Real-time strategy benchmark

Let's welcome the green box, which in the first "Craft of War" covered up to four units. Let's revisit the history of Azeroth, into which a horde of orcs entered through the Dark Portal. And let's pay tribute to the most famous gaming franchise, which includes not only games, but also books, manga, action figures... and in the future, a movie. Deforestation and base building, defense and offense, Prince Arthas and traitor Illidan; three strategy games, three addons. The battle for the Frozen Throne will last forever. Until the release of the fourth part. So far, however, not even announced.

Mal, yes daring!

Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)

Hurry up to see - supersonic hedgehog! In 1991, he single-handedly sold a 16-bit console from Sega, forever becoming a symbol of the company.

Katamari Damacy (2004)

The Japanese sticky ball "katamari" rolls on the ground, picking up everything it meets: benches and trash cans, houses and dogs, schoolchildren and trees...

Earthworm Jim (1994)

Worm Superhero! In this arcade, everything is fine: cartoon animation, original levels, pleasant humor, groovy music.

Space Invaders (1978)

The harbinger of modern shooters, an adaptation of the shooting range: a lone shooter against a horde of aliens.

Warhammer 40,000 series

Release date: 1992-2011

Genre: Real time strategy

The Warhammer 40,000 series is the most popular and one of the best selling games. Fans are constantly waiting for the release of a new game. The most famous is Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. The player chooses the race (Imperial Guard, Space Marines, Tau, Necrons, Orcs, Chaos, Eldar with each game new races appear) for which he wants to play, after which he selects the place on the planet or planets that he wants to capture and fights with the race that owns this earth.

Players capture special points that give influence and build generators that give energy, structures, troops are built on these resources, and improvements are made. Each race has its own troops, super units and heroes and abilities. The goal of the game in the campaign is to capture all the lands and become the patron of all lands.

Civilization Series

Release date: 1991-2013

Genre: Global turn-based strategy

In Civilization A complete model of human development has been created from the most ancient times to the present The player must create and develop his mighty empire, among other competitors, the condition for victory can be a military victory over everyone, victory on points, The game ends in 2050 either culture or build a spaceship and fly to Alpha Centauri. The strength and development of civilization consists of the development and creation of new cities, the creation of production in the cities of troops, scientific and military research. Also in the game you can create wonders of the world.

The player can take part in the historical events that took place, manage leaders such as Stalin, Napoleon, Ramses II, Catherine II and so on. Which of the series is the best is hard to say. Someone says that the part is the best, someone that the fourth. Graphics enthusiasts say that the fifth is the best of this series.

Warcraft III

Genre: real-time strategy with RPG elements

Popularly known as "Varik" was one of the most anticipated games, with over 4.5 million pre-orders and over one million copies sold in less than a month, making it the fastest selling PC game ever. publications awarded the game the titles "Best Game of the Year" and "Best Strategy of the Year". The game also received high ratings from the players.

There are 4 races in the game: Alliance (Humans), Undead, Horde (Orcs) and Night Elves. Each race has its own unique heroes who gain experience and a new level in battles. With each level, new abilities of the hero open up. Also, heroes can buy or pick up items from killed mobs that improve the combat characteristics of the heroes and the troops surrounding them. On different maps, players capture gold mines and extract forests, use these resources to build a base and units and improve their performance.

The essence of the game: to develop national ideas that give the game power certain advantages; as new state technologies are discovered, it becomes possible to choose one of the national ideas. The action of the game takes place in real time, but the reaction speed of the player is not required, since at any time the game can be paused. The game takes place on a schematically depicted world map, divided into more than 1500 sea and land provinces.

The player can take control of any country that existed during this historical period (about 200 states in total). Under his control are the country's economy, the formation of armies and fleets and their management, diplomacy, the introduction of new technologies, the internal policy of the state, the change of state religion and the colonization of new lands.

A feature of the game is its link to a real story (I note that in the third part of the series it is no longer tied to history and the gameplay is freer); there are historical rulers predetermined for each country, each of which has certain abilities that affect the game, generals that actually existed (such as Suvorov or Napoleon I Bonaparte), pioneers, explorers and navigators (such as Columbus, Yermak and Fernand Magellan ), as well as historical events that usually take place in the same country and at the same time as in real history (for example, in 1517 an event occurs that makes it possible to convert to Protestantism)

Company of Heroes 1.2

Release date: 2006

Genre: Real time strategy

The gameplay of Company of Heroes is very similar to Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. The player commands entire squads of fighters, but there are separate unique units. Each squad has a life scale (not a separate fighter) and if the life ends when the squad is damaged, then the entire squad dies. The player can equip infantry units with various weapons, choosing which weapon is more promising in battle. After the death of the squad, weapons remain that can be picked up and equipped with them by another squad. This applies even to stationary weapons such as anti-tank guns, heavy machine guns and mortars.

Each side in the game is divided into three unique directions - infantry, airborne and armored for the Americans and defensive, offensive and propaganda for the Germans, advancing in which gives access to new units and attacks (for example, a raid of attack aircraft). Another important difference is that squads and units in the game have three levels of experience. After destroying an enemy, a new level is obtained that increases damage, speed, health, armor or view range of a unit, depending on its type.

There are three types of resources in the Game: weapons, fuel and personnel. Personnel are used to build buildings, recruit new combat units, both infantry and armored vehicles, fuel, in turn, to build buildings and armored vehicles, and weapons are used to provide units with additional weapons, such as a grenade launcher, for artillery and air strikes, or for so that your technology gets new opportunities. Replenishment of resources is carried out using checkpoints.

Well-developed graphics and three-dimensional game space - the implementation of six degrees of freedom (you can consider the battlefield, the combat fleet from different angles) of the movement of game objects and the presence of thoughtful fleet control in three dimensions. A rich and complex plot that gradually unfolds directly during the game. In the next game mission, the player receives the fleet with which he completed the previous one.

At the beginning of the game, the player can choose a fleet of two races Kushan or Taidan: this does not affect the further plot in any way, only combat units change. A key feature of both the Kushan and the Taidan fleets is the presence of a main mothership that acts as the main base of operations. The mother ship has its own weapons, and a hyperdrive that allows you to overcome a significant amount of space.

The entire space fleet is divided into a combat fleet and a support fleet. The support fleet includes special ships such as a resource collector and controller, a research ship, a probe, a stealth ship detector ship, a gravity well generator. The combat fleet is divided into classes: Small ships - fighters, corvettes, Heavy ships - frigates, Superheavy ships, Flagships.

Stronghold game series

Release date: 2001-2014

Genre: real time strategy

The game system of all games in the series is based on the economic simulator of a medieval city or castle. The games have a number of unique settings that are unique to games in the Stronghold series. So, in the first Stronghold, the “popularity” parameter was introduced for the first time, affecting the working capacity and population. The combat system is standard for strategies - direct control of groups of units. The economic component is one of the main ones in the games of the series. There are quite complex and long production chains. As a rule, in the games of the series, more attention is paid to the economic rather than the military component of medieval castles.

All games in the series, except Stronghold Kingdoms, have campaigns (a series of story-related missions) and a map editor mode. Stronghold has a single campaign, other games have multiple campaigns.

In all games, except Stronghold and Stronghold Kingdoms, it is possible to play against computer opponents on the selected map. Stronghold and Stronghold 2 have a siege mode (besieging or defending a castle without running an economy). In the first games of the series (up to and including Stronghold 2) there is a free building mode (keeping the economy without war).

Release date: 2000, 2004

Genre: Tactical Real Time Strategy

This game was at the forefront of its genre and won numerous awards. Ground Control features 3D graphics and a freely rotating camera, allowing the player to view the fight from any angle. The game completely lacks the collection of resources, the development of the base and research. The goal of the player is to manage a limited number of combat units and perform various tasks with their help.

The main goal of the game is to destroy the opponent's troops and buildings using the terrain features and the strengths of your own army. Combat units include various types of armored vehicles, aircraft and soldiers delivered to the battlefield by orbital shuttles. After the start of the next mission, the player cannot call for reinforcements, which requires careful selection of combat units and their configuration before the battle.

The most important element of the game is the requirement for a tactical approach in any situation. Each unit has its own distinct strengths and weaknesses. Combat units are grouped into squads. The player can only issue orders to units, although the units themselves will fight and take damage separately. There are four categories of units: infantry, armored vehicles, support, and aviation. The player can choose the configuration of each individual unit prior to battle. For example, a Craven Corp tank squad can exist in four configurations: reconnaissance, light, main, and heavy. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages, so different configurations are suitable for different tasks.
