What is the sea in the Maldives? Maldives - where amazing islands are located on the world map.

15.10.2019

The Republic of Maldives is nothing more than a group of atolls - rings covering the sea lagoons. The archipelago is located south of India, and the sea of the Maldives is the majestic and huge Indian Ocean, which merges with the sky here, making the horizon line almost invisible.

Paradise vacation

Which sea borders the Maldives? This question is asked by one of the first happy owners of tours to luxury Maldivian resorts. The Indian Ocean is the third largest among the world's oceans, and it was its waters that made a beach holiday on the islands so amazing and memorable. The main visitors to the local resorts can be divided into three groups:

  • Newlyweds who decide to spend their honeymoon in a royal way. The sea of the Maldives, the white sand of the beaches and the bright sun, complete with magnificent hotels and the opportunity to retire together on the whole island are weighty arguments in favor of choosing this particular tourist destination.
  • Divers for whom the first and only place is the rich underwater world of the Indian Ocean in the area of the Maldives. Other aspects do not bother them much, and diving in the local resorts is possible in any season.
  • Fans of high-class rest and perfect service, for whom the price of the issue does not matter.

ocean of dreams

The Indian Ocean in the area of the Maldives can be called ideal. It has a beautiful color, the water is clean and transparent, the underwater world is striking in its diversity, and the water temperature makes swimming pleasant and comfortable. The thermometer in its waters at the local resorts does not fall below +26 degrees throughout the year, from which both beachgoers and divers are delighted.
The question of what kind of seas are in the Maldives is usually puzzled by those who like to go out on yachts. In the archipelago, there is even an opportunity to stay on a yacht, and its rent will not exceed the cost of a good room in a local hotel. This type of holiday allows you to see many new islands and get a real ocean of impressions.
The Indian Ocean is rich in a wide variety of fauna. Here you can meet not only sea turtles and dolphins, but even blue whales and sperm whales. In the Maldives area, the ocean waters are inhabited by plankton, some of which can glow at night, which makes the waves especially picturesque. There are no dangerous animals on land on the islands, and whale sharks, which can swim close enough to the coast, feed only on plankton and do not pose a threat to swimmers.

But to the question: - Where are the Maldives? not everyone will be able to give the correct answer. Meanwhile, finding their location is not at all difficult. Pick up a map, find the Indian Ocean. Two parallel chains of islands, southwest of India and not far from the equator, are the coveted Maldives.

A bit of geography

Exotic coral islands stretch from north to south for 820 kilometers. The total area of the Maldives is 90 thousand square kilometers, but only 298 square kilometers are allocated to land, the rest of the territory is occupied by the sea. Coral atolls unite 1192 delightful islands, of which 994 are uninhabited.

The population of the paradise country is 393 thousand people who settled on two hundred islands. About half of them hospitably host tourists from all over the world who know very well where the Maldives is located on the world map and strive to come here as often as possible. The islands are very small, a few square kilometers, so each of them has no more than one hotel. Blue transparent lagoons, amazing sandy beaches, unique vegetation and the highest level of service make the rest here delightful and unforgettable.

Weather

Where is the Maldives located? Where there is no winter. The subequatorial monsoon climate provides an average annual temperature of 24-30 degrees. From November to March, the weather here is dry, warm and the thermometer does not fall below 17 degrees. There are rains, rough seas and temperatures of 30-32 degrees. Swimming here is pleasant all year round, because the water temperature is constantly kept at the same level - 24-27 degrees.

Flora and fauna

A distinctive feature of the animal world is the complete absence of poisonous reptiles. And you can not even be afraid of a dog bite here, the keeping of these animals is prohibited at the legislative level. But enough at a short distance from the coast you can see a huge whale shark, but, as you know, giants feed only on plankton, so those who want to swim can do it without fear.

Fans of exotic fruits just need to know where the Maldives are, because there are a great many of them. The unique climate allows you not to experience a lack of vitamins all year round.

Coconuts, bananas, mangoes, papaya, pineapples delight tourists and natives with their juicy pulp. Everywhere the delicate aroma of orchids, hibiscus, roses, their diversity and color is amazing.

Tranquility, silence and complete unity with nature allow you to completely get rid of existing problems and give yourself a good rest.

The smallest capital

The city of Male is recognized as the smallest capital in the world, because it covers an area of only 2.5 square kilometers. This is a tiny cozy town, the main attractions of which are the Great Friday Mosque with a sparkling golden dome, located in the Sultan Park, the National Museum, the Presidential Palace and the legendary burial places of the Maldivian saints. There are no noisy entertainment venues here, but you can stroll along the picturesque embankment, enjoy the floral aroma in a shady park, visit original vegetable and handicraft markets. Everything in this country is subject to the laws of nature, and it’s probably even good sometimes to take a break from the hustle and bustle of megacities in such a cozy and peaceful place.

Visa and customs control

Where the Maldives is located, those who have managed to visit this wonderful exotic corner and, for sure, will visit it again, are well aware.

To travel here, you do not need to visit consular offices -.

You can rest here for 30 days, this is the period indicated in the tourist visa, which is placed in the passport for free upon arrival in the country. At customs, they can check whether you comply with the rules by which it is prohibited to import:

Attractiveness of the Maldives

Bans and restrictions that are important for local residents and not at all burdensome for us do not detract from the merits of a holiday in this fabulous country. Now you know that the Maldives is where the transparency of the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, exotic fruits and the aroma of exquisite flowers, sprawling palm trees and flocks of colorful fish, calm silence and solitude on a small colorful island in the middle of the ocean expanse. The Maldives is a paradise on earth, a delight and bliss that you can give yourself.

The Republic of Maldives is an island state in Indian Ocean.

The archipelago of the Maldives is located at the junction of the Arabian and Laccadive Seas, five hundred kilometers southwest of the southern tip of the Hindustan peninsula. A detailed map of the Maldives shows that the country occupies 27 atoll formations, consisting of 1192 individual coral islands.

The Maldives cannot boast of large sizes. The largest is Gan Island, but its area is less than 10 km2. Most of the islands in the archipelago do not exceed a few hundred square meters.

Maldives on the world map: geography, nature and climate

If you look at the Maldives on the world map, you will notice that the southern part of the country is crossed by the equator line. Although the length of the archipelago is about 750 km from north to south and 130 km from west to east, the total area of its islands is only 298 km2. The atolls of the Maldives can occupy hundreds of km 2, but are ring-shaped in shape. And most of the large islands are located on the outer sides of the atoll rings.

The coastline of the Maldives is 644 km. Due to its remoteness from the coasts of the continent, the country has neither land nor sea neighbors.

Geographical position

The Maldives are the peaks of the underwater Chagos-Laccadive Range, which stretches for almost 2500 km. However, the Maldives is not represented by volcanic rocks. All the islands of the archipelago are made up of sand and coral formations. Therefore, the Maldives state is considered the lowest located state of the planet.

The highest point in the country is located on the island of Gan and is only 2.4 meters above sea level. Most of the archipelago is uninhabited. Only about 200 islands are inhabited. Due to the great length of the Maldives, there are several large straits that separate groups of atolls. On the map of the Maldives in Russian, you can find the largest of them - the equatorial strait. Its width is about 95 km, and its depth exceeds 2500 m.

Animal and plant world

Due to the small size of the islands and the dense population of the largest of them, the terrestrial flora and fauna of the archipelago is not rich. Several varieties of palm trees and rare mangrove forests are all that the Maldives can boast of. The fauna of the islands also does not shine with diversity - Achatina, hermit crabs, gray herons and flying foxes. But the underwater world of the country is incommensurably richer.

Hundreds of giant living coral ecosystems contain about 200 species of corals, more than 1,000 species of fish, 250 species of crustaceans, and up to 500 species of mollusks and echinoderms. Also, the local fauna boasts two dozen species of various whales and dolphins. The straits between the atolls are abundantly inhabited by plankton.

Climate

The subequatorial climate of the Maldives is formed by seasonal northeast monsoons. The average temperature throughout the year is approximately the same - from 23-30°C. Although there are no distinct seasons in the country, spring is somewhat hotter and drier. With the advent of the monsoons, the temperature and humidity rise slightly. The average rainfall is about 2000 mm per year.

Map of Maldives with cities. Administrative division of the country

The average population density here is 1135 people per km2.

Male is the capital and largest city of the country. Located in the central part of the Maldives. Almost a quarter of the population of the archipelago lives here. It is included in the list of the most densely populated cities in the world and occupies the entire territory of the island of the same name, the area of \u200b\u200bwhich does not exceed 6 km 2.
