Beverly Seals (real name Bella Silverman) is one of the greatest singers of the 20th century, "the first lady of American opera." A columnist for The New Yorker magazine wrote with extraordinary enthusiasm: "If I recommended the sights of New York to tourists, I would put Beverly Seals in the party of Manon in the very first place, well above the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building." Seals' voice was distinguished by extraordinary lightness, and at the same time charm, stage talent and charming appearance that captivated the audience.

Charming Seals in Mozart's The Merry Widow

Aria Casta Diva from Bellini's opera Norma is one of the most difficult sopranos in the repertoire. And let's compare different performers who dared to sing this aria.

sings Beverly Seals

But the great one sings this aria Maria Calas

And finally Montserrat Caballe

And here is how this aria is sung Anna Netrebko

And this Galina Vishnevskaya

The voices of Italian soprano singers are distinguished by their brightness of timbre, great saturation, and depth of sound. The famous Italian soprano was Amelita Galli-Curci. After her departure from the stage, the title of "first soprano of the world" was challenged by Renata Tebaldi and Maria Callas from each other.

That's how he sings Renata Tebaldi

Renata Tebaldi was born on November 2, 1922 in Pesaro, in the same city as Gioacchino Rossini.
Once in an interview, Tebaldi was asked to name the largest singer of our time. She replied: “Of course, it’s me!”, And for a few moments she enjoyed the surprise of the tactless journalist, who did not expect such an injection against Kallas from her, and then added with a smile: “You see, I am seventy-four meters tall, can you name another soprano taller than me?” By such standards, Tebaldi was ahead of most of her partners, some even by a whole head.

Joan Sutherland-- the greatest Australian opera singer. A lyric-dramatic soprano with a phenomenal vocal technique that has amazed for many decades with a virtuoso possession of both voice and interpretation of opera parts ... She died on October 10, 2010 in Geneva at the age of 84 years.

Leontina Price(Price) (b. 1927) - American opera singer.

When asked if the color of the skin can interfere with the career of an opera performer, Leontina Price answered this way: “As for the admirers, it does not interfere with them. But for me, as a singer, absolutely.

RENE FLEMING is an American opera singer who has been called "the gold standard of the soprano", "the face of today's America in the field of classical vocals" and "one of the few true superstars of our time."

In the opera "Eugene Onegin" the final scene is a vocal, acting and staged masterpiece. Renee Fleming is Tatiana's best performer.

Maria Guleghina one of the most famous sopranos in the world. After her debut at La Scala in 1987, the singer rarely visits Russia, her schedule is scheduled for years to come. She is a welcome guest in all opera houses of the world: during her career, Maria sang in the most striking productions of the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, in Tokyo, Egypt, Vienna, Paris.

Maria Agasovna Guleghina(real name - Meitarjyan) was born in 1959. She began her professional career at the State Opera Theater in Minsk, then moved to Europe in 1987, and a year later she made her debut at La Scala as Amelia in Ball in the Masquerade with Luciano Pavarotti directed by Maestro Gavazeni. The strength, warmth and sincerity of her voice, and wonderful acting skills, made her a welcome guest in various theaters around the world. During her career, Maria has sung at the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, Tokyo, Egypt, Vienna, Paris and many world capitals...

Italian Barbara Frittoli- an opera diva, famous all over the world. She is called the silk soprano of Italy. Born in Milan, Barbara Frittoli studied at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory. Her international career began in 1989 after her debut at the Teatro Comunale in Florence in Bucchi's Il giuoco del barone. Her track record is unusually huge. The most significant were performances with Riccardo Muti

Annick Massis deservedly considered the first soprano of France. She owns an extensive repertoire - from the works of Handel and Rameau to the virtuoso parties of the bel canto era, French lyric opera and works of the twentieth century.

Her voice - a light, sonorous soprano with radiant highs and an unusual briskness that allows you to run through three octaves - is a little cold, just like she herself is cold. But again, this gives her a charming resemblance to the Snow Queen.

Amazingly beautiful soprano - Anita Cerquetti(Anita Cerquetti) Her name is little known in Russia.

An Azerbaijani star sang Casta Diva at the anniversary evening of Elena Obraztsova Dinara Alieva.

Dinara Aliyeva's voice captivates with beauty, her singing delights with a deep velvety timbre, her vocals strike with skill. Music lovers, critics and the press admire the artist's artistic talent and brilliant stage skills and evaluate her talent as a rising star of the world opera stage, possessing charisma and style in performing a variety of music and repertoire.

Cecilia Bartoli (Cecilia Bartoli)- one of the most sought-after and highly paid opera singers in the world.

For more than two decades, Cecilia Bartoli has undoubtedly been one of the most famous opera singers in the world. Each of her works - be it a concert program, a new role on the opera stage, the release of an album by the record company DECCA, with which the singer has an exclusive contract - arouses great interest.

It is Cecilia Bartoli who owns incredible "records" - more than 8 million albums sold, more than 100 weeks of stay in international pop charts. Her numerous prestigious awards Golden Disc, four awards Grammys(USA), ten awards echoes and one - bambi(Germany), two awards classical Brit Awards(Great Britain), Victory de la music(France) and many others reflect the huge success of such works as, for example, the disc Opera proibita(“Forbidden Opera”), as well as solo albums dedicated to A. Vivaldi, K. Gluck, A. Salieri.

Cecilia Bartoli - holder of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, current academician of the Roman Academy of Santa Cecilia, holder of the Order of Arts and Letters (France), holder of the Order of Merit (France), honorary member of the London Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music Sweden. Recently, Cecilia Bartoli was awarded the prestigious Italian award "Golden Bellini" (Bellini d'Oro), the Gold Medal of Honor for merit in the field of art - one of the highest awards of the Spanish Ministry of Culture. In addition, she was awarded the Gold Medal of the City of Paris.

In 2012, Cecilia Bartoli took over as Artistic Director of the Salzburg Festival. She noticed.

2012 is gone. And music critics unanimously recognized Yulia Lezhneva as the discovery of the year, one of the most promising Russian sopranos. Its timbre is called mother-of-pearl, and interpretations of baroque music are already being compared with reference ones. She was born in 1989 in a family of geophysicists in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. From the age of 5 she began to learn to play the piano and sing. In 2004 she graduated with honors from the A. Grechaninov Music School in piano and vocals. From the age of 14 to 18 she studied at the Academic College of Music at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory in vocal and piano.

Listen to Y. Lezhneva's concert, and if I find Casta Diva in her performance, I'll post it.

Julia looks like some kind of porcelain, without emotions. In this sense, she is far from Netrebko.

In conclusion, she sang Casta diva: all the delights, thoughts rushing like lightning in her head, trembling, like needles, running through her body - all this destroyed Oblomov: he was exhausted.

What is this aria of the Chaste Virgin about?

Chaste Virgin! Silver you marvelous look
This age-old forest is sacred.
Turn to us the imperishable face,
Illuminate with clear light.

Chaste Virgin, tame the burning passions,
And die bold fervor
Blessed peace on earth
As in heaven, welcome.

In original

Casta Diva, che inargenti
queste sacre antiche piante,
a noi volgi il bel sembiante
senza nube e senza vel...

Tempra, o Diva,
tempra tu de' cori ardenti
tempra ancora lo zelo audace,
spargi in terra quella pace
che regnar tu fai nel ciel...

Fine al rito: e il sacro bosco
Sia disgombro dai profani.
Quando il Nume irato e fosco,
Chiegga il sangue dei Romani,
Dal Druidico delubro,
La mia voce tuonera.

Cadrà; punirlo io posso.
(Ma, punirlo, il cor non sa.
Ah! bello a me ritorna
Del fido amor primiero;
E contro il mondo intiero...
Defense a te sarò.
Ah! bello a me ritorna
Del raggio tuo sereno;
E vita nel tuo seno,
E patria e cielo avrò.
Ah, riedi ancora qual eri allora,
Quando il cor ti diedi allora,
Ah, riedi a me.)

Literal translation

Oh chaste Goddess that silvers
these sacred ancient plants
Turn to us your beautiful face,
Without clouds and without cover

Die Goddess
Die ardent souls
Die also brave zeal
Spread peace on earth
And reign him in the sky

Finish the ritual: and the sacred grove
Will be cleansed of filth
When the Deity, angry and gloomy,
Demand the blood of the Romans
From the Druid Temple
My voice will boom.

Will fall! I could punish him
But whether to punish, the heart does not know

From the first true love
And against the whole world...
I will protect you.
Oh! Beautiful comes back to me
I calm down from this ray
And living in your womb
And I will find my homeland and paradise.
Ah, return to what it was then,
When I gave you my heart
Come back to me.)

This opera is rarely performed not only here. So listen to Bellini's "Norma" recorded from the Venetian theater La Fenici.

Like the rest of the world, Bellini himself considered Norma a masterpiece. If a shipwreck happened, the only one of his operas that would have to be saved, he said, was Norma.

Characters:

NORMA, priestess of the Druid temple (soprano)
OROVES, father of Norma, high priest (bass)
CLOTILDE, Norma's friend (soprano)
POLLIO, Roman proconsul in Gaul (tenor)
ADALGIZA, maiden in the temple of the Druids (soprano or mezzo-soprano)
Flavius, centurion (tenor)

Time of action: around 50 BC Scene: Gaul.

Summary of the opera:

The druids are preparing an uprising against the enslavers and are waiting for the signal to be given to them by the high priestess Norma. In her heart, a sense of duty struggles with love for the Roman commander Pollio, the father of her children. But Pollio fell out of love with Norma and is infatuated with the young priestess Adalgisa. Norma gives the signal for rebellion. Pollio is captured, he is threatened with death. At the last minute, Norma saves him, revealing her guilt (violation of the vow of virginity), and ascends to the stake. Shocked by her act, Pollio follows her to her death.

A few words about Vincenzo Bellini.

During his lifetime (1801-1835) he was called the creator of musical melodies. He lived only 33 years, writing 11 operas, the most significant of which is Norma.

On November 3, 1801, in Catania (Sicily), the son of Vincenzo was born in the family of musician Rosario Bellini. He was six years old when he composed his "opus number one". The boy studied music under the guidance of his grandfather, Vincenzo Tobia, since the Bellini family did not have the means for serious education. However, Vincenzo was lucky - he found a patroness - Duchess Eleonora Sammartino.

The Duchess made an urgent request to her husband, and he recommended that Vincenzo apply to him, the governor of the province of Catania, for a scholarship in order to help the Bellini family with the expenses necessary for the education of their son at the Naples Conservatory. What could not be achieved for many years was decided in a few days. In June 1819, Bellini was enrolled at the conservatory.

A year later, an exam took place, which everyone was waiting for with fear: it was supposed to decide the fate of each of the students - which of them would be left in college and who would be expelled. Vincenzo passed the test brilliantly and, as a reward for success, received the right to continue his studies for free. It was Bellini's first victory.

Solemn opening theater Carlo Felice took place in Genoa on April 7, 1828. At that time, Vincenzo Bellini's opera "Bianca and Fernando" was staged on its stage, ...

At the opening of the theater "Carlo Felice" in Genoa, at a reception, Bellini met a young, beautiful, friendly signora with charming manners. The signora treated the musician "with such kindness" that he felt subdued. Giuditta Cantu from Turin entered Bellini's life.

Social life in the salons and growing fame more than once pushed Bellini to love adventures, which he considered "superficial and short-lived." But this stormy romance, which began in April 1828, lasted right up to April 1833. For five whole years of experiences, mistakes, evasions, scenes of jealousy, mental suffering (not to mention the final scandal in her husband's house) "decorated" this connection, which deprived the musician of peace - later he would call it all "hell" without hesitation.

Performances of Bellini's operas were often accompanied by patriotic demonstrations: in the context of the growth of the national liberation movement in Italy, the audience found relevant political content in his operas.

Bellini is the greatest master of the Italian bel canto style. The basis of his music is a bright vocal melody, flexible, plastic, distinguished by the continuity of development. Outstanding Italian singers perfected their art on the works of Bellini.

Biography of the criminal life of Anthony Soprano - all the criminal details of the DiMeo family

Anthony Soprano is the de facto boss of the DiMeo "family" of New Jersey, although he is technically only the acting "acting boss". This difficult title is explained by the fact that the official boss is Dominic "Ackley" DiMeo, who is serving a life sentence, and the official "acting boss" is Corrado "Junior" Soprano, who is in a psychiatric hospital.

EARLY YEARS

Anthony Soprano was born into a family closely associated with the mafia. His father, Giovanni "Johnny Boy" Soprano and uncle Corrado "Junior" Soprano, were soldiers and later caporegimes in the DiMeo crime family.

Tony admired his father and decided to follow in his footsteps. But his parents insisted that he get a higher education. Tony studied for three years and dropped out of college, but managed to get some cultural baggage.
Together with childhood friends, many of whom were also relatives of the mafia, he began to commit petty crimes. Tony had outstanding leadership qualities. The only person in his company who surpassed him in leadership was Jackie Aprile. His older brother Richie Aprile was a gang soldier and an important earner.

The youth gang of Tony and Jackie also included Silvio Dante, Ralph Cifarreto and Tony Blundetto. Tony began courting his future wife Carmella while still at school. In addition, people close to him are school friend Artie Bucco, a restaurateur, and Chris Moltisanti, a younger cousin whom Tony considers his nephew. Tony also kept warm memories of his uncle, Junior Soprano, who spent more time with him than his father and taught him to play baseball. The nickname is simply the first letter of the name "Tony".

CARIER START

Tony joined his father's team and began to learn "the basics of skill" under the guidance of soldiers Paulie "Walnuts" Gualtieri and Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero. But he, along with Jackie Aprile and other childhood friends, dreamed of a quick career in the mafia. Young people conceived a daring plan that threatened very serious trouble. In the late 1970s, they robbed the Big Game of Poker, a regular card game held under the auspices of Caporegime Michele "Ficha" La Manna. The Sicilian La Manna arrived in the States as an adult and became one of the most powerful capos in New Jersey. The impudent people would have been unhappy if it were not for their family ties.

Richie Aprile and "Johnny Boy" Soprano stood up for the youngsters, and they got away with it, although of course they had to return the money. But most importantly, they became famous and deserved admiration for their audacity. Jackie Aprile and Tony Soprano became the "rising stars" of the New Jersey mob.

In 1982, Tony "made the bones" - committed the first murder. He did this on behalf of his father and under the supervision of Paulie Walnuts. Tony soon became a "made" soldier.

PANIC ATTACKS

Tony has a minor mental disorder. Occasionally, he has seizures - panic attacks - as a result of which he loses consciousness or is close to fainting. Undoubtedly, this is very inconvenient for the boss of the "family", so he began to visit a psychiatrist. But this is also a risk: if his colleagues find out about visits to a psychiatrist, he will have problems. However, the panic attacks brought Tony good. Due to the attack, he missed the planned raid, which failed. As a result, he remained at large, and his cousin Tony Blundetto received 17 years. Because of this, Tony always felt guilty towards his cousin.

In addition, Tony has a very tense relationship with his domineering, grumpy mother, who criticizes him all the time. The doctor believes that this is one of the reasons for his panic attacks.

ELEVATION

In 1986, Johnny Boy Soprano died suddenly of emphysema. With the support of Paulie Walnuts and "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero, Tony inherits his father's team. Another team in the "family" is run by his uncle Junior.

In 1995, the boss of the "family" Ackley DiMeo receives a life sentence. He appoints Jackie Aprile, who also managed to become a capo, as the "acting boss". This upset Junior very much, who at that time was the oldest and most respected member of the "family" (from those who were at large) and himself applied for this post.

Jackie was an extremely effective leader, but in 1999 he died suddenly of cancer. He, along with captains Raymond Curto, "Larry-Boy" Barese, and Jimmy Altieri, wanted Tony as boss. Tony himself is not averse, but such a decision pushes him forehead to forehead with Junior. Tony does not want an internecine war, and, in addition, he has sentimental feelings for his uncle. Therefore, he came up with a Machiavelli-style move: the uncle gets the title of boss, but all the important issues will be decided behind his back by Tony along with the caporegime. Additional benefit - Junior acts as a lightning rod, diverting the attention of the feds.

Since that time, Tony has been de facto in charge of the DiMeo "family". He has to go through many conflicts and crises, losing loved ones and risking his life.

Popular French rapper Soprano released his fourth solo album Cosmopolitanie in October 2014. With the new compositions of the 35-year-old from Marseille, RFI continues the series of portraits of leading French rappers. In past programs, it was about, and.

Good evening. In the RFI studio Dmitry Gusev and Elena Servettaz. At the director's console - Masha Schwartz. This is the "French Music Podcast" about new music in France.

On the air - French rap and popular rapper Soprano (Soprano). His new solo album "Cosmopolitanie" (cosmopolitanism) was the novelty of the autumn musical season in France.

Soprano believes that today in French music there is a rap for every taste - "glamorous, rap "old school", rap family and committed." Soprano calls his own rap "conscious": "All rappers do not have to be engaged, to take any position. But I personally need to assert my values. I grew up on value rap, conscious rap. Even when I write light songs, I need to insert two or three phrases into the lyrics that would act as a light prick,” says the musician.

One of the first solo hits of the "responsible rapper" was the composition "A la bien". She became the single of Soprano's solo debut with the album "Puisqu" il faut vivre "(because you need to live) in 2007. The title of the song - à la bien - is a colloquial expression for the youth of Marseille from the so-called "problem quarters". A la bien in the native the city of Soprano is akin to the Russian expressions “what you need”, “tip-top”, “laugh.” “Pass the microphone to Marcel” - Soprano begins his reading, dedicating the composition to “forgotten youth”, “to all the young people of France”, who “go along life without a GPS navigator.

In this 2007 composition, Soprano uttered the word "cosmopolitanism" he coined, which has now given the name to his new solo disc. “I came up with this word to describe Marseille. I liked it because it also conveys my philosophy of life, in which the main thing is mixing and openness. Be it cultural or musical,” Soprano explained.

The musician himself is an example of such mixing and openness. Soprano, or Said M'Rumbaba (Saïd M "Roumbaba), was born in Marseille on January 14, 1979 in a family of immigrants from the Comoros. He grew up in the northern - "limitless" - suburbs, in a large family. He grew up on the texts of MC Solaar, who opened rap to the general French public.

Soprano began to write his own texts in the 1990s, at the same time he created the first group with his friends. It was called Psy4 de la Rime (psychiatrists of rhyme) and became one of the leading rap teams in France. The voice of the French Khrushchev sounded in the group's albums "Block party" (2002), "Enfants de le Lune" (children of the moon, 2005), "Les cités d'or" (golden housing estates, 2008) and "4ème Dimension" (fourth measurement, 2013).

Soprano entered the solo dimension in 2007. His album "Puisqu "il faut vivre" sold 250 thousand copies, becoming a platinum disc. It included the composition "Halla Halla" (2007), addressed to fellow new French "ghettos".

In his compositions, Soprano can be both aggressive and melancholic. Ferme les yeux et imagine-toi (Close Your Eyes and Imagine, 2007) is an invitation to reflection, even meditation. Close your eyes, imagine all the troubles and sufferings of this world, and stop complaining. “Open your eyes and before you blaspheme life, think,” Soprano sings, calling to realize the chance given to everyone - to live. “And maybe then you will see that life is beautiful.”

In 2010, Soprano released his second solo album, La Colombe (dove). A year later, the rapper prepared a re-release of it, adding a second disc "Le Corbeau" (the raven) with 11 new tracks. The result was a double disc "La Colombe et Le Corbeau" (2011), which became the author's third solo album.

Soprano recorded one of the tracks with the then unknown, which became a discovery in French music in 2014. The duet with Indila was called "Hiro" - after one of the characters in the American science fiction series "Heroes" Hiro Nakamura. Like the fictional character, Soprano "would like to travel back in time" to change the course of events and prevent tragedies and disasters.

- "Conscious rapper" Soprano loves different music - not only rap, and willingly participates in various musical projects. In 2011, with the Ivorian group "Magic System", he recorded the popular hit "Cherie Coco", and later participated in. Two discs of this project were successfully released in France in 2012-13: young stars of French music recorded hits from the classic pop-rock and idol of the 1980s, Jean-Jacques Goldmann. For the second disc, Soprano sang the song "Quand la musique est bonne" (when the music is good).

Soprano's new solo album Cosmopolitanie was released in France on October 13, 2014.

The first single of the disc was released in the summer: this composition "Ils nous connaissent pas" (they don't know us) is written on the same theme - the lost generation of young Frenchmen. “They don't know us. We are told about national identity, about Europe, while young people do not know where they are going.” “I don't know where I'm from or where I'm going. I'm talking to the moon while I'm smoking a joint. Tell me who understands me. I have lost the concepts of good and evil because of the judgments with which they stigmatize me, ”such is the hopeless finale of the composition“ Ils nous connaissent pas ”.

Soprano's new album fully justifies its name - "Cosmopolitania" - with its thematic and musical diversity.

“This is a cosmopolitan album, I deliberately brought together completely different compositions and different worlds,” the musician explains. Here is a story about the tragic everyday life of Marseille - about the death of peers in gangster skirmishes in the composition "Kalash & Roses" (Kalash (nikov) and roses). Here are reflections on the cruelty of a society in which "man is a wolf to man" - in the song "Justice" (justice). Or even Soprano's personal confession in the first track of the album "Préface" (foreword).

In the world of a cosmopolitan rapper, there is no place for racism and xenophobia. Therefore, in his interviews and songs, Soprano opposes the ideology of the French National Front. About Marine Le Pen's voters, the rapper says: "I understand that they are disappointed (I am disappointed too), but I cannot vote for a party that indirectly divides people with hatred." The National Front sees me and people like me only behind the bars of the “big zoo,” Soprano sings in the “Foreword” to the album.

The musician sees himself in the tragic figure of the “crying clown”, who must entertain and delight, despite despair. Soprano's new composition "Clown" from the album "Cosmopolitania" is about this.

In ordinary life, the “tragic clown” Soprano is a cheerful Marseillais, a passionate football fan and an excellent family man. The rapper has three children - 7, 4 and 2 years old. “By the release of each album, I make a child and dedicate a song to each,” the musician jokes in his interviews.

And Soprano admits that he loves television series that he can watch all night long. Series prompt the musician new songs. In the album "Cosmopolitania" one song is suggested by the American TV series of the 1990s "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" (in the Russian version - The Prince of Beverly Hills). The track "Fresh Prince" became one of the dance fragments of the new Soprano album.

Musically, Soprano's new album "Cosmopolitania" is not only rap. So in the composition "Hello" you can hear the influence of gospel music. "Fresh Prince" was written with hip-hop in mind. And the track "Danse Ce Soir / Midnightlude" is quite suitable for nightclub dance hits. In the new album, the "conscious rapper" Soprano has shown himself to be a versatile musician capable of working with any kind of music. And if in some compositions he remains “Anonymous melancholic” (“Mélancolique anonyme” is the name of the printed biography of Soprano), then in others he can afford at least rock and roll. An example of this is the second single of the album "Cosmopolitanie", which even became one of the hits of the past summer in France. With this composition called "Cosmo" we complete the "French Music Podcast". Dmitry Gusev and Elena Servettaz were with you. Soprano's music sounded thanks to our director Masha Schwartz.

First season

At a family picnic, Tony fainted, in the hospital he was told that these were not physiological abnormalities, but psychological ones, and on the recommendation of his doctor neighbor, Bruce Cusamano, Anthony goes to see a psychotherapist Jennifer Melfi. Tony cannot tell all the details of his life due to loyalty to the "family" and a vow of silence. Dr. Melfi also immediately warned that if she learns anything about even a possible harm to a person, she is legally obliged to report this data to the police. In the process of therapy, some details of Anthony's life are revealed, his attitude to life, to his family, to children and to his mother, who makes him very nervous, because no matter what he does, no matter how he behaves, his mother Livia is always unhappy. Tony carefully hides the fact of visiting a psychotherapist from his friends and assistants.

In the first episode, most of the participants in the series are introduced. Friends of Tony: Jackie Aprile, Silvio "Sil" Dante, Polly Galtieri, Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bompansiero and Christopher "Chrissy" Moltisanti, as well as members of his family - Livia Soprano (mother), Corrado "Junior" Soprano (uncle, older brother father), Carmela Soprano (wife), and children Meadow and AJ Soprano.

Chrissy is Carmela's nephew, but Tony loves him so much that he can't call him anything other than nephew. Tony loves and cares for Christopher, entrusting him with small tasks, and Christopher himself wants to join the "organization". Christopher also commits robberies with his friend Brandon "Head" Filone.

The head of the family, Jackie April, fell ill with cancer, and for the duration of his illness, he handed over the reins of power to Anthony, which greatly upsets Junior. He believes that Tony walks on the heads, or rather on his head. One day, Christopher and Brandon robbed a Camley truck owned by Junior, which made Junior very angry. Tony settled this conflict by saying that there will be no next such time. Brendon persuades Christopher to rob Junior again, but Chrissy refuses, so Filone goes to deal with other people. During the robbery, inconsistent actions took place as a result of which the driver died, Brandon goes to Christopher in a panic and asks him through his uncle to solve this problem. Christopher calls Tony, tells him how it was and asks them to get off. Junior personally with his right hand Michael "Mikey" Palmisi appeared at Brandon Filone's apartment and "Mikey" shot him in the eye with the words "Hi Jack, bye Jack". After the death of Giacomo "Jackie" Aprila, Tony becomes the "Boss", since no one can become a full-fledged boss. Ackley DiMeo, serving a life sentence, remains the de facto boss of the DiMeo family. It was only after his death that the DiMeo family would be known as the Soprano family. So, according to the conspiracy of the caporegime - Jimmy Altieri, Raymond Curto, Laurence "Larry-boy" Barese Junior was put by the "Boss" of the family, the role of a lightning rod for the FBI. Junior often visits Livia in the nursing home, where Tony placed her against her will. Also, other kapos arranged their mothers in this institution, and from time to time they held meetings there, without fear of wiretapping by the FBI. Junior learns about this from Livia, and, thinking that they want to remove him, he is going to remove his nephew. Livia understands what is being said, but tells Junior that she doesn't want to hear anything. During the attack, Tony was able to protect his life by killing one and injuring another participant in the attack. Having escaped with bruises and abrasions, Tony finds out who ordered it. The mother has a pseudo-stroke, and Junior is arrested by the FBI on indictments.

History of creation

Concept

Before starting to work on The Sopranos, David Chase spent about twenty years producing and writing scripts for various television series, took an active part in such projects as The Dossier of Detective Rockford, I'll Fly Away and The North Side. Initially, he was going to make a feature film about a gangster undergoing psychotherapy due to problems with his mother, but later, on the advice of his manager, Loyd Brown, he decided to adapt the developments to a serial format. In 1995, he entered into an agreement with the Brillstein-Grey production center and wrote the original script for the pilot release. In developing the plot, Chase used his personal experiences and memories of his childhood in New Jersey, trying to imagine his own family life in a criminal environment. For example, the complex relationship between protagonist Tony Soprano and his mother, Livia, is largely based on Chase's relationship with his mother. At that time, the screenwriter himself used the services of a psychotherapist, so he decided to introduce Dr. Jennifer Melfi into the plot, who from series to series would listen to the personal problems of the protagonist. From a young age, Chase admired the mafia, grew up on classic gangster films like The Public Enemy, was very fond of the crime series The Untouchables, and in real life he repeatedly dealt with people from the criminal environment. The plot was based on the activities of the real mafia family Decavalcante, the main organized crime group in New Jersey, based in the city of Elizabeth. An Italian by birth (his real name is Decesare), Chase believed that the mafia environment would allow him to touch on the topics of ethnic self-identification of Italian Americans, speculate about the nature of violence and many other problems.

Chase and producer Brad Gray, head of the Brillstein-Grey Center, pitched The Sopranos to several TV channels. People from the Fox Broadcasting Company were the first to get interested in the idea, but after reading the script for the pilot episode, they still abandoned further work. HBO soon noticed the unusual and great potential of the show, the then director Chris Albrecht ordered funds to be allocated for the filming of the first issue, describing his impressions in the following words:

I thought it was a show about a guy in his 40s who inherited the business from his father. He tries to do business in modern realities. He faces all the problems that come with it. He has a power-hungry mother, from whose control he tries to get out. He loves his wife, but at the same time he has affairs on the side. He has two teenage children, he has to solve their problems too. He is full of worries, he is depressed, he begins to visit a psychotherapist, trying to find at least some meaning in his own life. I came to the conclusion that the only difference between him and everyone I know is that he is a Don of New Jersey.

The pilot release, originally called simply "Pilot" but renamed "The Sopranos" for the DVD edition, was filmed in 1997, with Chase himself acting as director. After reviewing the footage, HBO management postponed the show for quite a long time, ordering a full season of thirteen episodes only a year later. The premiere, therefore, took place on January 10, 1999, "The Sopranos" became the second HBO drama television series after "Prison Oz" with an hour-long episodes.

Casting

Most of the show's actors, like their characters, are Italian Americans, and many of them have previously starred together in various films and crime series. For example, 27 people from the cast of The Sopranos in 1990 starred in the movie Goodfellas, including the leading actors: Lorraine Bracco, Michael Imperioli, Tony Sirico. Eight actors participated in the 1999 comedy Blue Eyed Mickey.

The team of actors gathered as a result of a long audition, Chase personally looked through all the applicants, and none of those who came to the very end was sure of choosing their candidacy. In particular, Michael Imperioli, who played the role of Christopher Moltisanti, who outperformed several competitors, noted in an interview: “He had a stone face, he gave advice endlessly, constantly asked to repeat certain things - usually this happens with an unsuccessful game. I decided that he didn't like it, he just said "Thank you", and I left, thinking that I would never come back here. But then they suddenly called me.” James Gandolfini was approached to audition for the lead role after casting director Susan Fitzgerald saw him play in a short clip from the 1993 film True Love. Lorraine Bracco, who played the wife of the main gangster in Goodfellas, was originally planned for the role of Carmela Soprano, but later she asked to give her the role of Dr. Jennifer Melfi - the actress wanted to try something new, test her abilities in a different role. Tony Sirico, who himself has a criminal record, agreed to play Paulie Galtieri on the condition that his character did not end up as a "snitch". Steven van Zandt, better known as the guitarist for the E Street Band, had no previous acting experience, but Chase was impressed by his performance at the 1997 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and decided to cast him as Silvio Dante, Consigliere ) of the Soprano family, and for the role of his wife, Gabriela, they called the real wife of the musician, Mourin.

Before the New Year holidays, the singer, together with the leader Mikhail Turetsky, gave an interview to StarHit, in which they shared why there is no place for intrigue in their team, when they have time to give birth to children and who resolves conflicts within the group.

- Girls, tell us how friendly you are in the group? And then the female team is often compared with a serpentarium ...

Iveta Rogova:- I can’t say that the women’s team is a snake ball. In our case, definitely not, because we have no time for envy and intrigue. We don’t even have a normal personal life, we are at work. And, like real men, we forget about everything else. We cannot hide behind the soundtrack, like many of our artists, because we always sing live. We have such plowing - we work "on the teeth".

- We got used to each other over the years - after all, "SOPRANO Turkish" has been around for eight years. Despite the fact that all natures here are creative and emotional, gradually you understand when it is better not to touch a person, and when it is worth supporting him or, conversely, criticizing him so that he does not stop there and continues to develop.

- What causes conflicts? Who is the most emotional in the team? And who, on the contrary, smoothes sharp corners all the time?
