To organize a workshop for the production of basic components and elements of the body structure, large capital will be required. This money should be invested in the purchase of various machine tools, presses and other specialized equipment. For beginners in this direction, it is more advisable to start a business with the manufacture of covers, vinyl film or car stickers. These areas do not require large organizational costs, and the projects themselves pay off in a few months.

Quite a promising direction is the manufacture of creative wipers. As an idea, you can take traffic police officers waving wands, animals waving their tails, or any famous person. Manufactured products can be distributed through social networks, forums for motorists and marketplaces.

It is important to pay attention to the fact that in many sectors of the domestic market only foreign goods are presented. This trend is observed both in the field of household appliances and food products. Many domestic manufacturing companies use raw materials and consumables as the main elements of their products. Today, it is quite difficult to build a profitable production for small businesses, since the goods offered must withstand competition with foreign counterparts. In order to attract the attention of compatriots, a businessman needs to offer a quality product at a price lower than that of its main competitors.

When analyzing the current market situation, it is very important to take into account the needs of not only ordinary citizens, but also other businessmen. The B2B market is as broad as the consumer market. Working in several directions allows you to significantly increase profits and get a larger customer base. Many entrepreneurs who own their own production are striving to reduce costs through the use of domestic raw materials and consumable components. This means that entrepreneurs engaged in the production of products for which there is a high demand will quickly recoup their investments and will be able to expand their sphere of influence on the market.

In this article, we examined many different ideas related to the organization of our own production. Each of these ideas has a number of features, subtleties and nuances. When choosing a specific project, a future businessman needs to develop a competent business plan containing not only a financial model, but also a thorough analysis of competitors. This approach will allow you to get a profitable business that will not require additional financial injections.

Asset turnover is fastest in retail, and organizing a service business is beneficial because it does not require significant investments. However, in these areas there is high competition, as well as dependence on the political and economic situation. It is more difficult to organize a manufacturing business, but its predictability and stability in the long run is higher.

 

Practice shows that most private entrepreneurs organize activities in the service or retail sector. The creation of industrial enterprises is more difficult from a financial, organizational, and technological point of view. Nevertheless, according to statistics, they operate in almost all sectors of the Russian economy. The main thing is to choose the right production for a small business, to determine a niche.

This direction is often chosen by those who have experience in a large industrial enterprise, and were forced to quit for one reason or another. Such people understand better than others that the time interval between investing resources and making a profit can be long. But on the other hand, material production is a more promising business, especially in those places where there are opportunities for cooperation in a developed sector of the economy.

What industries are small businesses in?

According to the latest data from Rosstat, the majority of the SME sector are small businesses (36.3%) and individual entrepreneurs (30.2%). Only 9.2% falls on the average. Figure 1 shows the structure of their distribution by industry.

In fact, SMEs provide jobs for a quarter of the country's population (25%) and almost a third of all revenue (28%). Among them, the share of those spending on innovation is 68% of all enterprises in Russia.

The distribution of small businesses across Russia is very uneven. Most of them are concentrated: in Moscow and the Moscow region - 16%, St. Petersburg - 7%, in the Sverdlovsk and Novosibirsk regions - 4% each, Krasnodar Territory - 3%. They make a tangible contribution to the economy (Figure 2).

An interesting feature. According to Eurostat, there are many more individual entrepreneurs in manufacturing in Russia than in most developed European countries. However, in comparison with Germany: in the extractive industries, the number of enterprises in our country is 2.6 (with up to 20 employees - 2) times more; in the manufacturing industry - 40% less.

The sphere of interests of small enterprises is quite wide (Fig. 1). In the natural state of affairs, finances always flow to where the return from them is greater. Therefore, the numbers give food for thought to those who are looking for profitable production for small businesses.

Where to start and where to look for a niche

When organizing a small business, two questions always arise: where to start and what are the most promising ideas for a small manufacturing business? The answer to the first of them can be sought in three directions.

  1. The acquisition of an already established enterprise without a fundamental change in its direction in order to make it more profitable.
  2. Creation of a new production from a zero cycle, without focusing on existing or familiar models.
  3. Buying a franchise.

A successful choice of a market niche and an assessment of the strength of one's place in it are of decisive importance for the successful organization of one's production. An analysis of the given sectoral distribution shows that the maximum part of SE is employed in the manufacturing industries. There are two directions in search strategies:

  1. The production of a completely new product, the need for which is just emerging, "ripens".
  2. Release of products available on the market with an emphasis on its features, enhanced opportunities for the consumer.

The famous American trader Larry Williams noted: “If everyone around you is talking about something, then you are most likely already too late.” You should not focus on fashion - it goes by pretty quickly.

The most profitable production for small businesses

From the statistics it is clear that the most profitable production for small businesses is located in the manufacturing sector: 11% (compared to agriculture: 5%). A large number of enterprises are engaged in the manufacture of:

  • machines, machine tools and electrical equipment - 20%;
  • food, clothing and footwear - 18%;
  • plastic, rubber, mineral products - 14%.

Manufacturing business in mechanical engineering

The share of machinery and equipment in the production of MP is 11% - the same as food products. However, given the current state of affairs in the economy, it is hardly worth technologically linking your business with machine-building enterprises.

More promising are the business ideas of production for small businesses, designed to meet the needs of food and light industry enterprises, or directly to the needs of the population. The main factors of success: simplicity of products, relatively homogeneous range, mass production, guaranteed sales market. A prerequisite for effectiveness is professional marketing research.

The main difficulty is the influx of high-quality foreign products, which are difficult for domestic enterprises to compete with. This makes it necessary to purchase high-performance imported equipment with great technological capabilities.

Common consumption goods

Most of the small enterprises and individual entrepreneurs are engaged in the manufacture of goods directly for the end consumer - the population. These are consumer goods: furniture, textiles, carpets, clothing for sports, recreation and overalls; hosiery. The undisputed leader is food products, and given the course towards import substitution, the prospects for this direction in the near future will only increase. The table below shows some examples of business plans and opinions of entrepreneurs involved in these types of businesses.

The Novosibirsk enterprise "Model Plant of Siberia" in 2012 was awarded a national award as the best small enterprise in the field of consumer products. It produces wooden molds for the foundry: blanks for machine tools, fences, mine tunnels, molds for diamond processing. Some items are shipped overseas. Along with this, the company produces inexpensive furniture for kindergartens and schools.

Serving the construction industry

About 40% of all SMEs, including private entrepreneurs, are employed in construction. This gives rise to ample opportunities aimed at the manufacture of specialized equipment, tools, building materials to meet the needs of this sector of the economy. They are practically inexhaustible, and here both traditional types of products and new production for small businesses are in demand:

  • hardware and metal structures (construction nails, modular fences);
  • plastic, rubber products (plastic windows; rubber tiles);
  • bricks of different types and dry mixes;
  • stone natural, artificial (facing materials; tiles).

Modern business model for small businesses

As an advantage of small enterprises, their flexibility and mobility are most often noted:

  • the ability to accelerate the development of investments;
  • high capital turnover;
  • active innovative activity.

Inevitable difficulties in the organization are associated with limited own resources,

relatively low income and high labor intensity. This leads to increased risks in the competition.

The concept of "subcontracting" is becoming more and more common in MP. In fact, this is a well-forgotten old industrial cooperation. For small businesses, it brings significant benefits and growth prospects:

  • stability, ensuring constant orders;
  • entering new markets, product promotion

The subcontract system has been developed so far mainly in large cities, for example, in St. Petersburg its level is about 20%. The bottom line is that large enterprises focus their efforts on the production of key components containing know-how and carry out final assembly. They save on space and equipment. The rest under subcontracts is produced for them by small enterprises. Such relationships have become widespread in the sectors:

  • mechanical engineering, metalworking;
  • parts made of polymers and rubber;
  • electronics, electrical engineering.

Many entrepreneurs are showing interest in this business organization model. This was shown by a survey at the All-Russian SME Conference held in May 2014 in Yekaterinburg (Fig. 3). Of these, almost a third (27%) are representatives of industrial enterprises.

The main platforms for interaction and search for partners: fairs and exhibitions of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, regional centers for subcontracting, coworking, exchanges. They make it possible to search for placed orders and offer their services directly. As an example, one of such centers "NPRS" can be cited, where about 800 enterprises are registered, of which almost half are SE (Fig. 4).

An example of effective cooperation in the agro-industrial complex Mordovian Bacon. It consolidates the activities of 20 agricultural enterprises, including small ones: a mixed feed plant, a grain growing company, several pig farms, and meat processing plants. Gradually transferred to: private entrepreneurs cars on a lease basis, farms - land and equipment.

Finally. Small manufacturing business has good prospects for development. Large companies, as a rule, are focused on a homogeneous, mass demand. Small companies are more efficient in certain small market segments, as they are capable of rapid changes and have greater economic flexibility. Counting on the stability of your business, you need to use the opportunities of interaction with major partners.
