Master class "Drawings - scratches with a candle (wax)"

“I'll tell you about grattage.

He is of interest.

You're like a magician with a scratch

drawing the whole world miracles."

I will talk about interesting technique drawing "graffito" or GRATTAGE! This technique is interesting and accessible to both children and adults of any age.

Grattage - unusual technique drawing, translated from French means to scrape, scratch - this is the execution of a drawing with a sharp instrument, scratching paper or cardboard, filled with ink on wax. Therefore, scratching is affectionately called "Tsap-scratches"!

Material for work: a sheet of paper or cardboard, a brush (sponge, candle, oil pencils, ink (gouache), a jar of water, soap (soap solution, sharp objects for scratching, a napkin, a newspaper.

Classic scratching (black and white): rub a sheet of paper with wax (candle). Then, with a brush or sponge, apply mascara (gouache) to the surface.

Ink (gouache) sticks to oily surfaces with difficulty. To prevent the ink from collecting in drops on the wax surface, there is one trick - it is mixed with soap (soap solution).

When the ink dries, with a sharp object - a stick, a toothpick - we scratch the drawing, forming thin white strokes on a black background. The table must be covered, otherwise everything around will be strewn with black ink-wax crumbs. The work uses sharp tools to remove black paint from the surface of the cardboard, resulting in a white layer. The result is a spectacular black and white image.

You can paint over the landscape sheet not with a candle, but with egg yolk (base). The picture will turn out very bright.

Colored scratching - it can be drawn with wax or oil pencils, and then a candle is not needed.

Stage 1: paint over a sheet of paper (cardboard) oil pencils, wax crayons. (can be used colored paper or cover the sheet with watercolor, but then the drawing must be rubbed on top with a candle).

Stage 2: add to black ink (gouache) liquid soap or shampoo and with this mixture we cover the painted sheet with a brush, let it dry. It is necessary to paint over with paint so that the pencil does not shine through. You can let the paint dry and paint again.

Stage 3: the most interesting - when the black color dries, you can draw the contours - with a pencil or transfer through a carbon paper. Then we take a toothpick (stick, stack, knitting needle, fork) and scratch the drawing on the ink. On a black background, a pattern is formed from thin colored strokes.

Painting unusual materials(in this case, a candle) brings a lot of joy and develops Creative skills children.

Children drawings:

I'm sure you will succeed. If you try, you won't stop at one drawing.

I wish you and your children pleasant moments of creativity!

Lesson 7

I want to talk about how to draw such a beautiful light source as a candle. Such an old household item can become the main character of paintings on the theme of mysticism.

I take again Derwent drawing pencils natural range.

It is very convenient to draw candles with pastels - plain or wax. It is good when the material is covering, that is, it covers the surface of the paper well. It will be colored, this is the darkness in which the candle will burn. I provide a table of colors used so that you can navigate and choose similar ones.

come up with overall composition: the shape of the candle, in which candlestick it will stand, what will lie next to it. I came up with a plot on the topic of divination: a candle in front of a mirror and cards.

The candle is a cylinder. When it burns for a long time, its top is often melted, uneven. Draw a pale outline with a simple pencil, then the wick, then the flame. Light a candle or find a photo on the net: the flame can stand straight or sway, be thin, elongated or small. I chose a middle option.

We draw with color. At the base, the flame is darker, scarlet, purple or blue. Towards the tip, it brightens - almost white. Better to start with white pencil, adding beige (wheat, cream) yellow, pink, then red and blue closer to the bottom of the flame. Sets of pencils, and most importantly, vision, can be different, so you can’t say exactly what to mix in what proportions, be guided by your feelings.

Let the strokes be light at first, then intensify the colors, drive the pencil into the paper. A little secret: when applying light tones over dark ones, the surface is smoothed out, it becomes pasty, the colors smoothly flow into each other. This is especially noticeable when drawing with wax crayons or pencils.

Light diverges in all directions and forms a halo. Try to make the strokes to the edge farthest from the candle as light as possible, to dissolve in the dark. Start with beige and/or pink tones, then intensify the effect with white closer to the flame.

We draw the wick in black and gray and continue from dark to light to draw a wax candle. Despite its cylindrical shape, it does not have the shadows typical of, say, a glass. The light falls from above, there the lightest area will be located, while the candle is darker, warmer shades downwards. In this picture, yellow and brown ocher, light sienna, white, wheat, orange are used.

The shadow of the candle itself falls on the candlestick, so the glare of light is barely noticeable, apply them to indicate volume.

The candlestick is dark. Start with chocolate, brown ocher, add orange, gray, ocher on top. For a dense surface, you need a considerable number of layers.

In turn, the shadow of the candlestick falls on the table. There are cards on the table, and it is better to first draw them first, and then a shadow blurred from the fluctuations of the flame with a simple pencil with shading.

An interesting effect is given by the light of a candle on a mirror: it seems to be covered with golden dust. Let's depict this with light strokes of beige and ocher. Light meets darkness: with a graphite pencil we create space in the mirror. Remember that the candle illuminates from below those objects that are above it, it is this kind of lighting that gives the picture a mystery and mystical shade.

I combine graphite pencil with colored ones, it is shaded and it is easier for them to create unsteady outlines of shadows. In general, you can mix any technique, the main thing is that the result justifies it.

Black, chocolate, gray and yellow ocher are used for the frame. Ocher gave a golden hue, conveying warm light candles. Note that the frame under the "nimbus" is almost invisible.

I create a tablecloth with light touches of wheat and white.

So, the scene with the candle is ready. A good subject for a Christmas card.

Candle is an essential element New Year's holiday. This is a special product made of wax or paraffin with a thread stretched in the middle. The thread is lit at the top of the candle. Wax or paraffin gradually melts, the thread also burns out gradually. Thus, a candle burns, giving us a beautiful dim light. Candles make the atmosphere of our holiday unforgettable and exciting. Who doesn't love New Year with a Christmas tree, tangerines, gifts, candles and crackers! Today, craftsmen create very beautiful candles, which are truly a luxury item and a work of art. They give them unusual shapes, make them in the form of different figures. Modern candles are dyed in different colors and flavored with different fillers. So, we begin to learn how to draw a candle on a Christmas tree, under a Christmas tree or on a festive table.

Stage 1. Draw the auxiliary lines of our candle. These are two straight lines, parallel to each other, drawn at a distance of about 5-7 cm (the width of your candle depends on this distance: it will be narrower or wider). Then, below these straight lines, we begin to round the base of the candle with curved lines towards each other. At the top, with a smooth line, we will depict the hot top of our candle. This is a melted oval of irregular shape, shifted to one edge.

Stage 2. Now we will show candle streaks. When the candle burns, the wax or paraffin melts and floats down beautifully. smooth lines, forming bizarre growths, streaks in the form of frozen waves, drops or jets. Let's show these candle streaks with beautiful gentle lines falling down.

Stage 3. It's time to arrange a candle stand - her candlestick. At the bottom of the base of the candle, draw a rounded oval-plate, under it the leg of the candlestick. It is on the candlestick that streaks tend to flow during the burning of candles.

Stage 4. Now, with additional curved lines, we outline the contours of the candlestick and the lines of the candle itself, giving this object volume and texture.

Stage 5. At the top of the candle, draw a wick - this is a thick, harsh thread. It sticks out of the substance of the candle upwards, and at the end of it a flame burns. Let's draw a flame in a teardrop shape. It is directed upward.

Stage 6. Now let's mark the lines of the so-called light reflections on the candle drips, on the candle itself and on the candlestick. Imagine that some source of light is also directed at our candle and it is reflected on its parts.

Stage 7. Well, at the end we will decorate our candle with different colors. As we have already said here, now the colors of candles can be very diverse. And white, and red, and pink, and orange, and blue, and blue, and green ... Well, in short, all the colors that are possible. Candlestick can be painted in gold or silver. The wick is always dark, usually black. Well, the candle flame itself, of course, is yellow-orange, bright and hot! Happy New Year and Happy Holidays!

Final result

Step 1.

Let's choose a background for the candle. I chose dark brown. Take a brush and draw auxiliary lines on the layer. They will help to correctly present the candle.

Step 2

When the sketch is ready, we will start drawing the flame. To do this, we will create a group, call it fire, now in this group we create a layer " the fire". for the group (namely for the group, not for the layer), select (Brightening the base). Then choose White color and () ( Opacity(Opacity): 10% ), we will draw a candle flame.

Step 3

Bringing back the brushes Opacity(Opacity) - 100% . We begin to draw a candle, we need three colors: the main one, darker than the core and brighter. The lighter parts are the top surface, then the bottom right and more dark part- bottom left. We made a sketch of a candle in the form of a parallelepiped.

Step 4

With the (Blur Tool) we will soften the corners. The transition between colors becomes calmer, but the outlines must be left straight and even.

Step 5

We are drawing a candle that was lit only a couple of seconds ago. Therefore, it should not be in drops of wax. But since the candle melts rather quickly, we draw melted wax near the flame. For this purpose we use () and(Blur Tool)

Step 6

However, the wax melts quickly and begins to run a little down the wall of the candle. Draw drops with brush tool(Brush) (two shades: lighter and darker than the background with which we painted it), then smear it with Blur Tool(Blur). Don't forget to draw a shadow.

Step 7

Now we create a reflection of the flame. Copy the flame layer and place it in the group too. The flame is displayed vertically. Now we have two identical candle flames, let's use (Eraser Tool / "E" key), and erase unnecessary parts of the image.

Step 8

The candle should also be reflected on the surface where it stands. To create this reflection, we place a small part of the candle below. We copy and paste on a new layer. (Fill Opacity) for this layer is approximately 45% . Let's use () and draw a shadow between the candles and the surface. Then choose the usual brush black color and start drawing the wick.

Step 9

We draw a wick: its tip should be orange, as it burns in the flame of a candle.

Step 10

Flame: let's draw a reflection that this flame creates. We use () ( Highlights(backlight), 100% ), make the melted wax transparent.

Step 11

Using the same tools, make a transparent upper part of the candle. It should be the lightest shade.

Step 12

To draw smoke, we will create a new layer in the " Fire". Choose white color Opacity(Opacity): 30% ), brush with the following settings as shown below.

Step 13

Let's start working on the glow. Let's draw the rays, for this we must create new group(with the same settings as the " Fire”) and place it above all layers. Use the above brush ( Opacity(Opacity): 50% ), draw an area around the candle (closer to the flame, it should be brighter and shinier).

Step 14

Let's apply (Filter - Blur - Radial Blur) to this layer with the settings as shown below. Then press the key combination three times ctrl+f to repeat the action.

Step 15

Now we need to darken the light at the base of the candle. For this purpose, we will use () ( Midtones(mid tones) 50% ).

Step 16

Using the same tool, darken the background a bit. This will give the impression that the light from the candle is brighter.

Step 17

Let's give the candle a more saturated shade. For this purpose, we will use Airbrush Soft Round(Soft round brush), Opacity(Opacity): 50% , in addition, draw something similar to smoke. Then change the layer blending mode (for this layer) to (Saturation).

Step 18

Using (Blur Tool) we will smooth out the inner area of the flame (including the wax drop layers). Now the fire looks more believable.

Step 19

Go (Image - Adjustment - Brightness / Contrast), for the layer with the image of a candle, and achieve a purple tint.

Step 20

Click Ctrl+U and we have a menu Hue/Saturation(Hue/Saturation), set the settings as shown below.

Step 21

The smoke should be brighter. Correct this with (Eraser Tool / E Key) ( Opacity(Opacity): 35% ).

Step 22

Using ordinary brushes, draw a match next to the candles. Imagine a light smoke that comes from it, this will show that the candle was lit a few moments ago. We do not forget to apply shadow and light, let's correct the shape of the match a little.

Step 23

Using () with low settings, we make the area around the candle transparent, since the light from the candle hits these areas. Unnecessary I cut off with
