What to see nearby?

After visiting the exhibition, you can look into the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood and feel the art of architecture of the early 20th century. Not far from the Mikhailovsky Garden is located

The eleventh annual festival of landscape and floral art, which is usually held in the Mikhailovsky Garden, will move to the Summer Garden this season. This was announced on Tuesday, June 5, by the director of the State Russian Museum Vladimir Gusev, the correspondent of "Dialogue" reports.

“300 years ago, in 1718, Peter I issued a decree on holding Assemblies, and the first of them was held in the Summer Garden. This festival of ours will be called "Flower Assembly". This is how we remind you of the history of Russia: it is important for us that the Imperial Gardens do not turn into just a glamorous flower festival, but still have a museum basis. The Summer Palace of Peter I is the place from which a new page of Russian statehood began. They are the same age as St. Petersburg, and the gardens also began with St. Petersburg, ”Gusev said.

According to him, this year the nature of the festival will change - when it was held in the Mikhailovsky Garden, the exposition was based on installations and landscape compositions, while now the emphasis will be on the use of fresh flowers. For this reason, the dates of the festival have been changed - it will take place not at the beginning, but at the end of the month, from the 21st to the 27th, as the flowers should bloom. The place also imposes its limitations - in the Summer Garden there are no extensive lawns on which compositions could be placed, so the organizers will have to decorate - carefully, since the appearance of the garden is under the protection of KGIOP - the existing elements of its decoration: hedges, fountains ... By the way, the guests of the festival Lots of interesting innovations await.

“For example, we plan to make the Tsaritsyn fountain perfumed. There has never been such a thing in the history of Russia, because there were only four such fountains in the world, and the first of them appeared in 1900 at an exhibition in Paris. We hope that this experiment will succeed, and tonight ( on Tuesdays the Summer Garden is traditionally closed for cleaning and maintenance - Dialog news agency) will just be a "fitting" of the flavor. It will be an exclusive, unusual event: in fact, Peter I just loved such, and the Summer Garden was an experimental platform for him, where he tried out various innovations brought from Europe (mainly from Holland). Then he built Strelna, and then Peterhof, but the Summer Garden is the progenitor of all gardens of the European tradition [in Russia],” said Olga Cherdantseva, chief curator of the gardens of the Russian Museum and head of the Imperial Gardens of Russia festival.

In addition, 50 photographs of famous European palace gardens will be exhibited on the main alley. The photography project is sponsored by the Association for the Preservation of the Heritage of European Gardens.

“Probably, it would be easier for us to hold the festival on the knurled road, in the Mikhailovsky Garden, but the working group of the festival decided to postpone it for this year. I, as the person responsible for the preservation of the Summer Garden, took this initiative with caution - but we will work, and I think that it will turn out well. The Summer Garden is not Mikhailovsky, here we cannot afford to make landscape installations on lawns: it is simply impossible. Therefore, it was decided to make small flower arrangements; the main fountains and bosquets will be decorated. All this will have to be fixed very sparingly - no glue, no drilling, no interference at all with the structural elements. I think landscapers have their own tricks, ”said Sergey Renni, head of the Gardens branch of the Russian Museum.

“Whether we continue to hold it there, or arrange it in both places, we will see how much money is enough,” Gusev added.

Note that the entrance to the Summer Garden these days will be paid - a ticket will cost 500 rubles (on the website of the gardens of the Russian Museum, the price is now 430 rubles, or 160 for preferential categories). In addition to the fact that this will partially return the funds spent on the festival, the management of the State Russian Museum intends in this way to make sure that the festival will not have an excessive influx of visitors (although the garden already receives a million people a year). In addition, for three days before the start of the Imperial Gardens of Russia festival (June 18-20) and two days after its end (June 28-29), the Summer Garden will be completely closed due to the need to assemble and dismantle decorations, respectively.

“Perhaps we will keep some compositions for ourselves, especially, probably, from social projects that will be placed in the “French Parterre” bosquet,” said Rennie.

During the white nights season, the city hosts many open-air events, which are not hindered even by bad weather. One of the most beautiful is the Imperial Gardens of Russia festival.

This year the festival will be held a little later - from June 21 to 27 and not in Mikhailovsky, but in the Summer Garden. Each festival of the past years had its own theme. We remember dedications to French, Italian, British gardens, the art of the labyrinth, the Russian avant-garde and the revolution.

This year's festival is called "Flower Assembly" - in memory of the decree adopted by Peter the Great 300 years ago to hold assemblies. The format of the festival has also changed: instead of large-scale installations by landscape designers, chamber flower arrangements will dominate. This is a forced measure.

The Summer Garden is not Mikhailovsky, it is impossible to create landscape installations on lawns here. Therefore, it was decided to make small flower arrangements, decorating fountains and bosquets, - said Sergey Renni, head of the Gardens branch of the Russian Museum. - Works in Summer are being carried out very carefully, as there are many restrictions on the part of KGIOP.

According to Olga Cherdantseva, chief curator of the gardens of the Russian Museum, the queen of flowers, the rose, will occupy a special place.

The Museum of Roses will open in the Green Cabinet (where the museumification of the Lacoste fountain is located). Historical varieties of roses will be presented in 36 compositions.

Two entrances to Berso (at the main parterre) will be decorated with flower garlands in the form of arches. And in the center will hang a chandelier of flowers.

As the organizers joke, it will be possible to make appointments here.

The partners of the festival from the Vorontsov Palace in Crimea came up with the exhibition "The History of the Rose". The public will see 22 panels telling about famous historical figures and roses associated with them.

The fountain on the Tsarina's Square is decorated with geometric compositions of white chrysanthemums and red roses. Eight objects created by children from social institutions will appear near the monument to Ivan Andreevich Krylov. The kids were offered to dream up on the themes of Krylov's fables: "Monkey and Glasses", "Crow and Fox", "Dragonfly and Ant", "Swan, Cancer and Pike". According to Olga Cherdantseva, this is a reminder of the labyrinth with Aesop's fables, which was under Peter the Great in the Summer Garden.

All the ponds of the Summer Garden will be decorated with flowers. For example, three compositions of pink and cream chrysanthemums, made in the form of rays, will appear in the Menagerie Pond.

In the central part of the bosquet "Cross Promenade" there will be flower arrangements symbolizing the seasons. "Spring" and "Summer" will be made from flowers, "Autumn" - from herbs, vegetables and fruits, and "Winter" - from coniferous branches and cones.

An unusual exhibition in the Red Garden, the garden of Peter the Great, will also be dedicated to the seasons. There will be shown compositions of fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and herbs, made in the style of the Italian mannerist artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo.

Festival "Imperial Gardens of Russia - 2016" in Mikhailovsky Garden

This week the regular annual festival "Imperial Gardens of Russia - 2016" is being held in the Mikhailovsky Garden at the Russian Museum. This year its main leitmotif is the world of childhood.
Throughout the park there are children's playgrounds and compositions created according to children's drawings, an exhibition of posters "Flowers of Childhood" and other objects related to the theme of children.

The center of the children's art project "There on unknown paths ..." was the Oil Meadow, in the center of which a historical pedunculate oak grows. He is 278 years old, he is much older than the Mikhailovsky Palace. A "golden chain" appeared on it, and a learned cat with a book in its paws settled down next to it.

There is also a mermaid descending from the branches, unprecedented animals, Baba Yaga, Koschey, Chernomor and other heroes of Pushkin's fairy tales.

Next to them is the Blooming Fountain composition, and a little further "Dormanron and Kuafanshuk"

(This photo is not mine)

Dormanron was invented by the French writer and artist Claude Ponty, and implemented in the form of a plant composition of ornamental and edible plants by the French Institute in Russia together with the Vavilov Institute.
Glass is presented at the Rossi Pavilion in the Transparency project.

On the other side of the path - the composition "Dragon Dream".

I go further along the Moika, on which a whole "flotilla" of boats lined up, and look at the "Play of Light", "Moonflowers", "Silhouettes".

Then I decisively turn to the Pond and - oh, joy! - I get to the Cat Museum.

The author of these "cat-pebbles" is Elena Gromyko. Today, for some reason, they ended up on the ground, although a few days ago they proudly sat on pedestals.
Behind them, a whole army of photo-cats sits proudly on easels.

And this is a funny house of insects and behind it the Hobbit house.

From the opposite side, visitors strive to get into an unusual car.

Romantics are attracted by the composition "The Sea Calls".

Where did this sailboat go? Well, of course, to the Desert Island for a chest with jewelry and gold coins.

And at this point I was caught by rain with a thunderstorm. I still manage to run across to the next path, where I find a variant of the classic 19th-century flower bed.

There is a beautiful dining table at the corner of the path, but the intensifying rain prevents them from admiring.

With a quick step I go to the exit and suddenly I notice the Dwarf's House. I can't walk by without taking a picture of it, but the downpour doesn't let me take a good picture. This is where my trip ends, especially since the battery in the camera says goodbye. It is a pity that I could not see the entire exhibition, the weather did not allow me to.

What I did not like this time was that there were very few flowers in the flowerbeds and lawns.
Finally, I'll show you a few songs. I wish there were a lot more of them.

See you again, friends. Our festival and my good friend Nikolai Ivanov give you a traditional smile.

The landscape design festival "Imperial Gardens of Russia" is taking place in St. Petersburg: in mid-June, in the Mikhailovsky Garden of the Russian Museum, you can observe landscape compositions created by architects from different countries (49 landscape workshops from Russia, Germany, Finland, Spain take part in the festival this year , France, Denmark), attend master classes, listen to lectures and applaud the performances of theater studios, ensembles and circles.

Mostly for children, because this year the theme of the "Imperial Gardens", breaking under the walls of the Russian Museum for the ninth time, is "Flowers of Life". What is actually meant is clear to everyone. The exhibition is dedicated to children.

From the very beginning, the festival was unlucky with the weather: at the gala concert in the garden with an icy wind from the Gulf of Finland and 10 degrees Celsius, smarter guests came in down jackets. Those who dreamed of a holiday cursed their craving for beauty and tried to warm up with cognac, neglecting the bartender's attempts to make cocktails: in lace dresses there was no time for ice cubes in transparent glasses.

“It’s much warmer on stage,” the president of the Sistema Charitable Foundation encouraged (the festival has been held with the financial support of the foundation for many years). The guests believed. However, the children dressed as chrysanthemums, who danced Tchaikovsky's natural "Waltz of the Flowers" on the occasion of the holiday, and the children's choir that performed the songs that you yourself bawled while swinging, were still sorry.

Frozen children were taken to the warm Russian Museum. In their place came responsible adults who had nowhere to hide.

It seems that only the director of the Russian Museum is not cold: in a five-minute speech, he cheerfully came up with three themes for future festivals. The next topic will probably be music. It's a pity - abstract themes, like the themes of compositions, give such a wide scope for creativity that the artists scatter in different directions and often run too far from the viewer.

Charitable Foundation "System"

This is what happened with this festival. "Children" could be anything. “The current topics of the festival will be the issues of studying, preserving nature and the environment, new approaches to organizing children's play spaces in cities, and demonstrating modern playground equipment. Particular attention will be paid to social projects for children with disabilities. All this is. St. Petersburg charitable foundations take part in the festival (including Anton is Right Here, Warm House, Alyosha and others).

Children's playgrounds and compositions created according to children's drawings appeared in the Mikhailovsky Garden (Koschey playing the guitar for Baba Yaga, a taxi cat invented by a 4-year-old child, a critter, a cat on a chain and a Mermaid on an oak), an exhibition of posters "Flowers of Childhood" and other objects directly or symbolically related to the theme of children. “Read the explanations,” calls Artem Parshin, chairman of the jury of this festival, landscape architect of the Aptekarsky Ogorod Botanical Garden. You really need to read: the meaning of some compositions is difficult to understand not only for children, but also for adults.

And if children can invent their own meanings, then those whose childhood is long over, painfully do not understand: what do flowers have to do with it?

Flowers were missing. Out of competition, one of the best compositions was shown - "Dormanron" of the French Institute in St. Petersburg, a fluffy green unknown animal (in fact, a sea turtle), invented by the French writer and illustrator Claude Ponty and made using the technique of topiary art.

Charitable Foundation "System"

Second place in the nomination "Flower Arrangements" went to the composition "Flower of Happiness", created by the team of the Maryino estate. A great idea of the branch of the Russian Museum in Malaga was to create a Garden of Five Senses with plants that stimulate sensory perception (those that can be seen, touched, smelled, and even tasted).

However, garden sculptures, even very cute ones, cannot satisfy the craving of a city dweller for the living and beautiful. It is pointless to come here hoping to get ideas for your own personal plot (however, you should pay attention to the permanent garden compositions created for the Mikhailovsky Garden - they are good). What's the matter? Is it in children?

“Exhibition gardens in such a festival mode, when gardens are assembled for a short time - and they are assembled as a designer, plants arrive in their containers - this is a very special genre of garden art,” explains Artem Parshin. —

This means that you are building a garden as a mise-en-scene during a theatrical performance.

It doesn't matter to you what's behind the scenes, what matters to you is what a person sees from the audience. Therefore, the main thing is that the viewer does not see the white threads, does not see the seams; what's under the surface doesn't interest you."

Charitable Foundation "System"

According to the chairman of the jury, in this sense, the compositions of the "Imperial Gardens" should be treated with indulgence, since architects face a serious limitation: in the Mikhailovsky Garden (and this is a monument of gardening art, a monument of landscape architecture) you cannot stick a shovel into the ground. You can't dig here. Therefore, everything that happens here takes place above the surface, above the lawn.

“It affects the appearance of what is being built here. According to the laws of the genre, the plants are in containers, they are not planted. Authors who do not pay attention to this feature put pots with plants directly on the ground, says Parshin. — You see dirty plastic pots, which is absolutely unacceptable. If it's a show garden, it's a special genre, and you have to act within that genre. When the seams are visible, when it is clear how it is done, this is wrong. You just need to understand the peculiarities of the site - the festival is already nine years old, and it will not leave here, this site is already loved. So, you need to think in advance about how you hide what should not be visible, show what should be visible on the surface. All competent works here are raised above the surface of the earth.

One of these works, perhaps the most interesting one, has already won the Grand Prix of the festival. This is the composition "Water of Life, or Inside is not the same as outside", created by the AFA landscape group.

Charitable Foundation "System"

Outwardly, it is an irregularly shaped green hill with purple flower beds. Inside there is a rounded shallow pool where you can play and splash if the weather permits, and most importantly, there is an observation tower with a telescope and an Archimedes screw, an amazing thing that, with the help of a wheel and a screw chute, allows you to pump water out of the reservoir. It is pleasant to spin it for both adults and children: for this, you just definitely need to give the Grand Prix.
