THE ADVENTURES OF FANDORIN

Detective based on the novel by B. Akunin

On February 2, the premiere of the play "The Adventures of Fandorin" will take place on the stage of the Opera and Ballet Theatre. This is a joint project of the Sergei Bezrukov Foundation and the Moscow Provincial Theater, artistic director of the production - Sergey Bezrukov, director - Tatyana Vdovichenko. The performance is based on Boris Akunin's novel Leviathan, the third book in the famous series of historical detective stories about Erast Fandorin.

After the events experienced in the Russian-Turkish war, Erast Petrovich sails on the Leviathan ship to Japan, where he is sent to serve as secretary of the embassy of the Russian Empire. During a sea voyage, Fandorins again becomes a participant in a detective story. The other day, Lord Littleby and his family were murdered in Paris. A badge in the form of a golden whale, most likely torn from the killer, was found in the victim’s hand. This is the emblem of the Leviathan ship, which was handed out along with the ticket to all first-class passengers. But who among them could commit such a terrible crime? An investigation begins, suspicion falls on five people who do not have a golden whale. Among them is Erast Fandorin...

In the role of Fandorin - MGT actor Alexander Sokolovsky, popular with a young audience for his work in the TV series Molodezhka, Sklifosofsky, etc. An actor was invited to play the role of detective Gosh Leonid Gromov. For the role of Renata Kleber - Anna Snatkina. In the role of Clarissa Stump - Ekaterina Melnik.

Sergey Bezrukov , artistic director of the production:

“Our theater tries a variety of genres and directions. Our repertoire includes musical performances, for example, Vysotsky. The Birth of a Legend”, there is a phantasmagoria “The Dream of Reason” based on Gogol’s “Notes of a Madman”, there is a plastic performance by Sergei Zemlyansky “Caligula”. We had never tried plastic drama before, and it was an interesting, wonderful experiment. Now we are trying ourselves in a new genre - the detective genre. It is up to the viewer to judge how successful it will be, but the interest in this production is already very high. Of course, this is, first of all, an interest in the material: Boris Akunin is very much loved as an author, and the image of Fandorin created by him is loved and does not need advertising. As far as it is possible to translate detective Akunin into stage language - time will tell. We took the novel Leviathan as a basis, but it was important for us to connect it with the story described in the novel Azazel. Because the tragedy that happened to the hero at the end of that story, the death of his bride, is the very imprint with which he lives later for many years. He cannot forget Lisa. Therefore, the image of the girl, the deceased bride, is present in our performance. And the fight against evil, which began in Azazel, continues for Fandorin.

Artistic director of the production - Sergey Bezrukov
Director - Tatyana Vdovichenko
Scenography and costumes - Irina Zaitseva
Lighting designer - Taras Mikhalevsky
Composer - Alexander Billion
Choreographer - Dmitry Akimov

Cast: Alexander Sokolovsky, Leonid Gromov, Boris Khvoshchnyansky, Anna Snatkina, Ekaterina Melnik and others.

In his house on one of the streets of Paris, a certain Lord Littleby was killed. The criminal stole almost nothing, he took only a golden figurine and an embroidered scarf. At the same time, in the hand of the murdered lord, they find the badge of the first-class passenger of the Leviathan ship, which is due to leave for Japan the other day. In addition to ordinary passengers, Erast Petrovich Fandorin also boards the ship, not suspecting that he will witness a new crime. And he has no choice but to start an investigation, because he himself is among the suspects.

At the end of September, the premiere of the play took place at the Moscow Provincial Theater "The Adventures of Fandorin" based on the novel Boris Akunin. A detective story about the new adventures of Erast Petrovich this time takes him to the Leviathan ship. Trying to escape from the ghosts of the past, he falls from the abyss of spiritual passions into a whirlpool of real events. This hermetic detective story, when one of those present will be the killer, and the circle of suspects is clearly outlined from the very beginning of the action, was staged in the theater by Tatyana Vdovichenko. Artistic director Sergei Bezrukov has repeatedly said that he is looking for new genres and directions for productions, and the detective story is a win-win option for any theater. The plot itself will already keep the audience in suspense. And here, besides, the literary material does not give any doubt about the chosen topic.

On the ship "Leviathan" the audience gathered the most diverse. Small talk breaks only one fact that somewhere nearby is a killer. Police Commissioner Gustave Gauche ( Leonid Gromov) tries at first by chance to bring the criminal to clean water, resorting to various tricks. But in the end, defeated, he is forced to narrow the circle of suspects. And the company gathered is truly motley: this is an officer of the Japanese army Gintaro Aono ( Azamat Nigmanov), middle-aged Englishwoman Clarice Stump ( Natalia Zhitkova), the banker's pregnant wife Madame Kléber ( Anna Snatkina), as well as doctor Truffo ( Boris Khvoshnyansky) with his wife, professor of archeology Switchald and assistant captain, and, of course, Erast Petrovich himself ( Alexander Sokolovsky).

In the performance, Fandorin already demonstrates to us his traditional analytical abilities, but we practically do not hear the usual stuttering, which does not at all reduce his resemblance to the prototype. He also pronounces his trademark "one ..., two ..., three ...", shines with erudition and stands aside while the detective erroneously exposes his accusations, waiting for his "finest hour". Fandorin, unlike other detectives, does not look for clue after clue, does not try to get to the bottom of the matter. It seems that he already knows the name of the criminal at first sight, but for some reason he does not want to tell the police about this, apparently, for fear of seeming discourteous. While he is constantly distracted by bitter memories, the police rush from suspect to suspect, getting more victims along the way.

There are few detectives on stage, and even fewer good ones. It will be interesting to follow the development of the plot, so this is an ideal option for joint leisure. The whole performance of suspicion will fall on one or the other hero, revealing not the most personal facts of their biography. But the killer, of course, will be the one you least think of. We will be let on the wrong track, carried away by one or the other theory.

There is no need to wait for any directorial revelations - Boris Akunin's material does not need complex interpretations. The main task was to translate his novel into theatrical language, and Tatyana Vdovichenko it succeeded. She arranged all the characters, like chess pieces on the board, who are ready to checkmate us.

The scenery, made of modules, allows the Leviathan ship to transform both into a deck and into cabins, hiding from the impending storm and from prying eyes. Interesting finds, beautiful costumes. A picture that is pleasing to the eye. The performance is suitable for you if you want to remember the good old theater without shocking revelations and controversial director's decisions. You don't have to come here for experiments. Here you have to plunge into the world of secrets and intrigue for two and a half hours!

A nice bonus was that on the day of the premiere, badges were handed out in the theater - the same ones that divided passengers into first and second class, as well as the badge that the killer left in the hand of his victim. Therefore, if you suddenly come across it, then it is better to immediately attach it to your clothes, otherwise you may also fall under suspicion!

Absolutely light and elegant premiere of "The Adventures of Fandorin" was held at the Moscow Provincial Theater. This is a play based on the novel by Boris Akunin "Leviathan", which is played absolutely according to the book. Before us is a classic English detective in a confined space where anyone can be a killer. And, as in the book, this atmosphere is well conveyed on stage, flavored with mild humor.

Erast Fandorin, performed by Alexander Sokolovsky, is exactly what I imagined when reading the book - a laconic macho dandy.

Perhaps the central role in the narration of the performance is the role of the investigator Gustav Gosh (Leonid Gromov), who reminds the old Lestrade from our Holmes movie series, performed by Brondukov. There are echoes of this ironically-laughing klutz-policeman, who considers himself the smartest. And the role of Gosh Leonid Gromov was a success.

Clarissa Stump (Ekaterina Melnik) is a fatal beauty. Well, how can you not fall in love with this and not present the first killer.

Madame Truffo (Victoria Skitskaya) is the same beauty, where there is some sophistication.

Renata Kleber (Anna Snatkina) - yes, yes, also a beauty. That's it, three beautiful women on one Leviathan. All the action is kept in the shadows, moreover, according to the play. she is also pregnant. But in the end, thanks to Fadorin, it becomes clear who is who, and here Snatkina reveals the full power of her talent, from touching defenselessness to a ruthless killer.

Monsieur Truffo (Boris Khvoshnyansky) is a doctor who loves his wife. A very even role.

Anthony Sweetchild (Andrey Misilin) is a very interesting tragicomic role of a scientist who uncovered the secret of the Maharaja's treasures. There is in him something of Paganel, who lives only by science. And this devotion to science, to the subject as a whole, fascinates. He can draw an Indian dot on his forehead on his forehead, moreover, red, and this is also a symbol of marriage among Indian women, but not at all shy about it. This can be attributed to his distraction. But at the same time, his logic is practically not inferior to the logic of Fandorin.

Gintaro Aono, a Japanese (Azamat Nigmanov) is a Japanese. with his code of honor, which is restrained and comes to the aid of Fandorin, as a token of gratitude for being saved from an unjust arrest.

The scene of exposure of Renata Kleber is strong with two characters - Fandorina and Kleber. And here it must be said that the duet in this scene of Sokolovsky and Snatkina was five plus.

Charles Renier (Maxim Amelchenko) is a very tragic and beautiful role to be congratulated on. There is love and rage and rage in love. Well, I would like to note the beauty of the scenery and the work of lighting technicians. Everything is at a very high level.

The very accurate and breathtaking scene with Rainier's ghost walking between the passengers is mesmerizing.

As we remember from Akunin's first book, Fandorin's bride is killed on her wedding day. And she, it seems. invisibly present on the ship, foreshadowing trouble.

Reginald Milford-Stokes (Sergey Medvedev) - the actor conveyed a rushing hysterical man who is in love quite well.

The fight scene between Fandorin and Rainier is one of the strongest scenes in the play. It seems that the actors really hate each other and hit each other in the face. Very professionally delivered.

A powerful ending with the exposure of Kleber and a handkerchief shows the propensity for wealth hidden in the character of the heroes. The war for the handkerchief, which is the key to the treasures of the Maharaja, is serious. Well, actually, what would you do if you had the opportunity to get the key to countless treasures? Probably each of us would behave the same way.

The handkerchief passes from one hand to another. And a weapon appears. The Japanese helps stop the fight and the handkerchief ends up in Fandorin's hands. And here Fandorin does something that none of us would do. He burns a handkerchief with the words that there will be enough hidden treasures for the entire budget of Russia, but that's okay, we will hold on. What causes sad laughter in the hall. And a chandelier falls on Madame Kleber. AND Fandorin is left alone with his memories of the bride. And the crystal-sad "I was driving home" does not lead to a house that was destroyed.

You have to go to this wonderful performance in order to relax, and think, and look at the wonderful play of the actors and the beautiful scenery.

The premiere was a success and I want to congratulate the Moscow Provincial Theater on it.

On September 23, we watched the premiere performance of Fandorin's Adventures. MGT has set itself a difficult task: firstly, it seems to me that it is quite difficult to stage a detective story on the theater stage so that it is not only exciting, but really scary and realistic, and the second difficulty is the very appeal to the image of a famous detective, because that readers and viewers of film adaptations know for sure what it should be) and "keep before their eyes" the original author's text.
Some time in the first act of the performance was required for a peculiar presentation of all the numerous characters in "Leviathan" (the novel on which the performance was staged) and a certain introduction of the audience "up to date". This, in my opinion, somewhat slowed down the action and the series of events of "adventures" and it was not Fandorin that came to the fore, but Commissar Gosh, who was bright and, as they say, "broad strokes", referring not only to partners, but also appealing to the audience , played by Leonid Gromov. Fandorin, in my opinion, was not enough and he was not enough. Although, on the other hand, in the novel, Erast Petrovich also for the time being acts as an observer and listener. Finally, in the second act, Fandorin ceased to be an observer and turned into the main participant in terrible, romantic and mystical events. Alexander Sokolovsky accurately plays a hero who has not yet become that "emotional invalid" (s), which will appear to those around him later. Noble, insightful and courageous, he is perceived in this story to a greater extent as a romantic hero, as opposed to the "old bloodhound" (as he calls himself) Gosh.
The romanticism of the hero, his personal tragedy and chivalry on the side of the forces of light in the eternal struggle between good and evil are reflected in the image of a ghost girl (the ghost of his tragically deceased young wife), accompanying Fandorin and the floating Leviathan throughout the story. The ghost is either a bright vision-remembrance, or an ominous harbinger of impending murders, or Death itself, taking away its new subjects ... forces to hold back tears, will kiss her hair ...
The unfolding chain of events makes it hard to follow the plot twists of the performance and the "unmasking" of the characters, many of whom, as it should be in a real detective story, turn out to be completely different from what they first imagined. At the same time, there are also funny moments in the production, "an untranslatable play on words"), witty jokes on a financial and political topic).
Traditionally, performances at the Provincial Theater delight with their scenography. So this time, the costumes of the characters made a big impression; unusual decorations: huge portholes, a pendulum steering wheel with searchlights, billowing sails; sounding music and special effects recreating thunder and storm. There was even a working phonograph and a two-wheeled "penny-farthing" bicycle on the stage, on which Fandorin rode along the promenade deck, and in the final went to bow!
Of the characters I have seen, I would also like to mention the Indologist-archaeologist Sweetchild performed by Andrey Misilin: his waving arms and sparkling eyes scientist, whose hair seemed to stand on end when he excitedly begins to talk about the treasures of the Indian rajah, captivated the whole audience. An interesting character - both arrogant and hunted turned out to be the baronet Milford-Stokes, played by Sergei Medvedev (the owner of expressive facial expressions and a charming smile appeared in a new and very unexpected image).
And of course, bows! In the Provincial Theater they are wonderful. The bows of "The Adventures of Fandorin" have become a real parade of characters and a separate small performance!
Many thanks to all the actors, director Tatyana Vdovichenko, artistic director of the production Sergei Bezrukov and all the creators of the play! Thanks for the performance, thanks to which fans of the detective Fandorin were able to plunge into the true atmosphere of Akunin's books, fans of the detective genre became witnesses and participants in exciting action-packed collisions, the audience , who did not read the original source, were able to test their deductive and analytical abilities, and all together - just get pleasure and food for thought from everything they saw. I congratulate the Moscow Provincial Theater and wish a happy journey to Fandorin's Adventures on the Leviathan, which has left the Provincial Shipyard! With Premiere!
