The second place can be taken by Salvador Sobral from Portugal with the song Amar pelos dois.

You can watch the final of Eurovision 2017 online on May 13, 2017 at 22.00 Moscow time on the websites Eurovision.ua and Eurovision.tv

As you know, the competition was created in 1956 and was first held in Swiss Lugano. Born out of the idea of the San Remo festival, it was intended to unite Europe, which was slowly recovering from the upheavals of the war. As you understand, the USSR, in view of ideological and political differences with the West, did not exhibit its performers.

The situation changed in 1994, when the singer Judith (Maria Katz) performed for the first time at Eurovision. Her composition was called "The Eternal Wanderer" ("Magic Word"). The girl from 10 applicants was chosen by the television "Program A". In our country, she was widely known as a performer of blues compositions, participated in musicals (for example, Chicago), voiced films and cartoons (for songs from the cartoon "Anastasia"). even won an award from 20th Century Fox). At the competition, the singer impressed everyone with impeccable vocals and an unusual costume. With 70 points, she got 9th place.

The following years became less successful for Russia. The producers of the ORT channel decided to bet on domestic celebrities. In 1996, Philip Kirkorov went to Dublin. Unfortunately, his song "Lullaby to the Volcano" turned out to be uninteresting and won only 17th place.

Approximately the same thing happened with Alla Pugacheva, who in 1997 represented Russia with the song "Prima Donna". The Europeans did not understand the composition, and the performer's costume shocked them. Result - 15th place.

Russian Eurovision participants by years

Russia returned to the competition in 2000 and won the first victory. The young singer Alsu from Tatarstan successfully performed the song "Solo" and took silver. Its result can be repeated only in 2006.

In 2003, the group "t.a.T.u." goes to Latvia for the Eurovision Song Contest. The bet was made on the outrageous image of young schoolgirls with non-traditional orientation. The song "Do not believe, do not be afraid" attracted attention and became the third.

In 2004 and 2005, former participants in the Factory project - Yulia Savicheva ("Believe me" - 11th place) and Natalya Podolskaya ("Nobody hurt no one" - 15th place) were sent to the competition. 2006 was marked by another breakthrough - the second place of Dima Bilan. The composition "Never let you go" lost first place to the punk band Lordi from Finland.

In 2007, the little-known group "Serebro" unexpectedly wins third place in Helsinki.

And here comes 2008. Russia again sends Dima Bilan to the competition. His bright composition "Believe me" is accompanied by the magnificent performance of the Hungarian violinist Edwin Marton, as well as an ice dance performed by the famous figure skater Evgeni Plushenko. Honored 1st place.

In 2009 Eurovision was held in Russia for the first time. Unfortunately, Anastasia Prikhodko and her "Mamo" were only in 11th place.

In 2010, at the competition, Russia was represented by an unknown Peter Nalich. He passed the selection with the song "Guitar", the video of which was posted on YouTube. At the competition, both the performer himself and his "Lost and Forgotten" were out of the format and earned only 11th place.

The performance of Alexei Vorobyov in 2011 was remembered more for the scandals associated with the singer's obscene statements than with the number itself. As a result - 16th place.

In 2012, the producers made a completely unconventional choice. A folk group from the Udmurt village of Buranovo set off to conquer Europe. "Buranovskiye Babushki" conquered everyone with their enthusiasm, strong vocals and bright costumes. Despite the fact that their "Party for everybody" did not win the Grand Prix, but took only silver, it became a real hit.

Eurovision is an annual music song contest held among performers from countries that are members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Therefore, among the participants of the competition, you can see performers from Israel and other countries outside Europe. From each participating country, one participant is sent to Eurovision, who performs one song. The winner of the competition is determined by voting of viewers and a jury from each participating country.

The Eurovision Song Contest was first held in 1956. The competition appeared as a result of the transformation of the Italian San Remo festival. Marcel Beson, who was very fond of this project, saw in the competition an opportunity to unite nations in the post-war period. The Sanremo Festival still exists today. And Eurovision today is one of the most anticipated and popular events in the musical life of Europe. More than 100 million viewers around the world watch this competition every year.

Every year, before the competition, a preliminary selection procedure takes place, which helps to determine the list of participating countries. Performers from the EBU Big Four countries - , - enter the competition automatically.

It can be said that the most lucky country at Eurovision is Great Britain. Of course, she became the winner more often (7 times against 5 victories of Britain), but the British took second place 15 times, France and Luxembourg, like England, won 5 times, but they took second place no more than three times.

The nationality of the performers at Eurovision does not matter. This is confirmed by the participation of Katrina Leskanish in the competition. She was born in America and performed with the Waves from Cambridge. Another foreigner representing Great Britain in the competition was Ozzy Gina J., while Greek Nana Mouskouri and Belgian Lara Fabian competed for Luxembourg in 1963 and 1988 respectively. By the way, the victory in 1988 went to Switzerland, which was represented by the Canadian singer Celine Dion. It was the victory in the competition that turned the unknown singer into a real star.
