Literary Prize Yasnaya Polyana has been awarded since 2003 to writers whose works inherit the traditions of classical literature. In 2017, the award turned 15 years old, and in honor of the anniversary season, the organizers changed the structure of the award. This year the jury selects laureates in three categories: Modern Russian Prose, Foreign Literature and Event.

“Today, the Yasnaya Polyana Literary Prize will be awarded for the 15th time. 15 years is by today's standards whole era. And now, looking back, we are sincerely proud of the path that we have traveled together over the years, we are proud of all the laureates of previous years. Now we can really say that the history of the Yasnaya Polyana Prize is the history of modern Russian literature. For the third year now, the award ceremony in the category "Foreign Literature" has been held, thus, "Yasnaya Polyana" dared to embrace the entire world literary space», - noted Vladimir Tolstoy, chairman of the jury of the literary award "Yasnaya Polyana", adviser to the President of the Russian Federation on culture.

“Modern Russian Prose” is the main award nomination. She notes outstanding work domestic author, which is important to read right now, as it defines the range of literary trends of today. In total, in 2017, 120 works were submitted for the nomination "Modern Russian Prose", published both in the form of a separate book and in literary magazines. The shortlist included six texts.

“I consider Patriot the most bright romance this year and one of the brightest works of this decade. This is one of the few books that I have read to the end. Rubanov gives us a new modern hero which is important for the novel. His hero is a man of action. He acts first, thinks later. This is not entirely typical of Russian literature. I think that of all the Karamazov brothers, Rubanov would have been closest to Mitya, not Ivan or Alyosha. It is Mitya who acts, makes mistakes, and then begins to think about it. I really like the author's language: precise, clear, categorical. Which is also uncharacteristic of recent literature. Rubanov is not spoiled for prizes. And awarding him such prestigious award how "Yasnaya Polyana" is a serious event in the writer's life", - said Pavel Basinsky, member of the jury.

“I have compared literature with ballet several times., noted Andrey Rubanov, laureate in the nomination "Modern Russian prose". - It seems to me that both art exists at the expense of a narrow circle of connoisseurs. And it is quite symbolic that today I found myself in the cradle of ballet - big theater. I am very touched and grateful to everyone for appreciating my work.”

The laureate in the nomination "Modern Russian Prose" receives a cash prize in the amount of three million rubles.

The prize fund of the short list of this nomination, amounting to one million rubles, will be evenly distributed among the finalists who did not become laureates in the Modern Russian Prose nomination:

  1. Ksenia Dragunskaya (story "Kolokolnikov - Podkolokolny")
  2. Oleg Ermakov (novel "Song of the Tungus")
  3. Vladimir Medvedev (novel "Zahhok")
  4. Mikhail Popov (novel "Patriot")
  5. German Sadulaev (the novel "Ivan Auslender")
