Yoga for cervical osteochondrosis is a good alternative to modern medicine. Although doctors disagree about the effectiveness of yoga in these diseases, it has been proven that it can relieve spasms and other symptomatic manifestations of damage and the development of degenerative processes in the neck joints.
In order for yoga with cervical osteochondrosis to help in the treatment and prevention, it is necessary to perform the exercises correctly:
- Try to bend your lower back as much as possible and keep it in this state during any back exercise, even if it is designed to strengthen the cervical vertebrae.
- The neck should always be straight, and the gaze in front of you. This will reduce asymmetry and allow the muscles to return to their natural relaxed position.
- Perform all exercises at an extremely slow pace to relieve part of the load.
- Use the advice of a qualified master to perfect each asana individually.
Parivritta Trikonasana
In order to properly perform this exercise, you need a bar or other support. To begin, stand straight, feet at the maximum available width, at which the feet will be in contact with the floor. Then twist your left hand towards your right leg, keeping your back in a straight arch as much as possible. Try to hold that pose for 30 seconds. Then take the other hand and the other leg and repeat.
Uttiha parshvakonasana
Uttiha parshvakonasana is another exercise that can greatly help in the treatment of cervical osteochondrosis. It relieves stoop - strengthens the muscular corset of the muscles of the ridge, and most importantly, tones the vessels of the cervical spine, which leads to a slowdown in degenerative processes. Asana is performed in the same way as parivritta trikonasana, only without twisting the torso crosswise.

Unfortunately, without proper nutrition, adherence to the daily routine, performance, and very often without surgery - yoga is not able to help in the treatment of degenerative processes associated with the common name osteochondrosis. However, it will be able to slow down the destructive processes and stop them altogether, and the flexibility of the vertebrae and nerve nodes will allow you not to feel pain when moving your neck.
However, it is important to understand that for the treatment of osteochondrosis, you need to take the whole range of measures, and very often even experienced doctors shrug their shoulders, reporting their inability to cure this terrible disease.
The complex of asanas is called to help solve the main problems associated with osteochondrosis:
- Relax the muscles that cause chafing;
- Create a sufficient muscle corset that will support the neck in the correct position without exercising a load on it;
- Relieve spasms;
- And most importantly, reduce the asymmetry of loads on the neck, which cause degenerative changes.
It is worth remembering that yoga against osteochondrosis is primarily a preventive doctrine, which means that its use is not always able to stop sharp degenerative pathological processes. However, it helps much better if you add a doctor's prescription to the asanas, as well as:
- You will take a contrast shower daily for 20 minutes with an emphasis on the hot period - this will help relieve spasms and relieve pain in the spine.
- Swimming in butterfly and breaststroke styles. They reduce the load on the joints of the cervical region, but at the same time help develop the muscular corset. As a result most the muscles will take the load on themselves, which will reduce the chafing of the joints.
