Review: Windy River with Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen.

28.02.2019

For the London premiere of Anthony and Joe Russo's Captain America: Civil War, Elizabeth Olsen chose an elegant Alexander McQueen gown with a plunging neckline and... more than once regretted it. Her male colleagues appreciated the choice of outfit and did not leave Elizabeth a single step.

Elizabeth Olsen, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr and Emily VanCampElizabeth Olsen

Chris Evans, who played Captain America, could hardly take his eyes off Olsen's neckline - the actor was not even embarrassed by the crowd of photographers capturing his every movement. Jeremy Renner tried to touch the actress about and without, he did not leave Elizabeth even when she signed autographs for fans. Such attention to the younger sister Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen is easy to explain - the beauty is lonely.

In January 2015, Elizabeth broke up with 33-year-old Boyd Holbrook, with whom she was engaged for one year and dated for three years. Then she was credited with an affair with a partner in the film "I Saw the Light" Tom Hiddleston - a couple were seen several times on walks and dinners in restaurants, but Olsen herself denied these rumors, saying that they had exclusively friendly relations with Tom.

We are friends, we have known each other for almost 4 years. We just ended up in the restaurant at the wrong time (Elizabeth hints at the presence of the paparazzi there - ed.). We all go out to dinner with someone, there's nothing like that. I try not to react to rumors. Apparently I'm dating both Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans...

Hundreds of girls go missing on Indian reservations every year. The fact that many of them are never found does not surprise anyone: the climate in the mountains is harsh, and nature is sometimes worse than any criminal. However, when gamekeeper Corey Lambert ( Jeremy Renner) finds the body of his daughter frozen in the snow close friend, it quickly becomes clear that this time it will not be possible to write off the case for the blizzard that has broken out. Soon teamed up with an FBI agent ( Elizabeth Olsen) the hunter has to face not only his own past, but also the real demons of this godforsaken land.

"Wind River" Taylor Sheridan- a screenwriter who came out of serial supporting actors - in fact, he says the same thing that the two previous neo-westerns of this talented author so convincingly spoke about: "Murderer" And "At any cost". Briefly, the message of all three paintings can be formulated as follows: in the 21st century, the Wild West has not disappeared anywhere, it has only disappeared into the North American landscape and into the people who inhabit it. Such allegorical meanings in Sheridan's directorial debut are brought to a special level corresponding to the genre: main character movie - professional hunter, and parallels with the world of wild animals and its axioms natural selection the audience is not stuffed into the mouth: "What are you doing? - I shoot predators. "Then why don't you shoot one for me.".

The expression "man is a wolf to man" is an important, but not exactly original, idea for a western. Sheridan understands this very well and therefore dilutes the classical pathos of the genre with compositional innovations. So, the linear plot, indicated here only by a dotted line, is interspersed with non-random lyrical scenes in the course of action, and towards the end of the picture it is completely torn apart by a blood-curdling flashback that turns the narrative upside down without warning.

Like any good playwright, the personal history of the characters takes the director much more than abstract reflections on the nature of evil and injustice - and this allows Sheridan to give each character a personal exit. So, a little ridiculous, but more than ever laconic Renner allows himself to inadvertently shed a tear and give John Wayne in several scenes, and Elizabeth Olsen gradually stops playing and dissolves into the image of a strong woman with good heart. Her role in the film is perhaps the most winning of her entire career and a powerful step towards the future Oscar: against the backdrop of silent and emotionally stingy men, a young FBI employee looks like a victim for a long time until she grabs the gun barrel herself.

Perhaps the best thing that Sheridan managed to do as a director and for which his debut will definitely be remembered is the meticulously executed action scenes. There are only two of them here, but each will give odds even to such masters of their craft as Quentin Tarantino: the tension that the director achieves in these few bloody and aesthetically impeccable minutes fully pays for the previous hour and a half of lingering anticipation of the denouement. Like another important element of the picture - the mournful and lingering soundtrack Nika Caiva And Warren Ellis- Sheridan's parable about natural justice and about moral choice person in wild environment breaks the audience's soul gradually, inaudibly steps getting close to the very throat, and allows itself to break loose only in the final episodes in order to leave behind a deep and long-lasting mark.

Every damn day Elizabeth hated Sonny more and more. And no, it's not that Jeremy was now hanging out with her. most free time than with Lizzy. The fact is that the guy began to show sympathy for this ... girl, and Olsen quietly stood aside and burned with jealousy. Jeremy Renner should be only hers, she realized this only recently, when in Once again watched the vile giggle of this prostitute and the pleased face of the best-friend-beloved. Jeremy even traded a day he spent with his girlfriend every year throughout their friendship for a date with Pacheco. Now he sincerely does not understand: why Elizabeth pouts at him, does not talk and, if possible, avoids him.

Meanwhile, Renner didn't waste any time either. He saw the cute blonde Boyd lead away his Lizzie, but there was nothing he could do about it. Jealousy choked him, rage clouded his eyes, a flame flared up in his soul, ready to burn everything around.

Elizabeth stood by her locker at school. Nearby, Scarlett Johansson was telling something - a classmate, and now good friend Miss Olsen.
- Lizzie! - the girl shuddered from a loud voice that was heard just above her ear. Olsen "woke up" from her thoughts and looked at her friend in confusion.
- Did you say something? she asked monotonously.
- I'm asking what happened to you? You've been walking around drooping for the past two days, as if you had a fight with Renner... - the blonde, seeing that Lizzy looked away, asked: - Did you have a fight with Jeremy?
- Yes, there is not only a quarrel with Jeremy. - Scarlett showed with all her appearance that she was listening carefully, and Olsen would not be able to get away. - So... As you know, my parents came and brought their friends, Sonny and Boyd. Lizzy started. Johansson nodded. - Renner spends all the time with Pacheco, even forgot about our day. And she flirts with him, giggles, dresses like a whore ... And he is so pleased ... - the archer looked at one point. - And yesterday the ancestors said that they were moving to New York. The Pacheco and Holbrook families too.
- Everything is clear with you! Scar waved her hand. - You and Renner are just jealous of each other. - Then the blonde looked at Beth. - You're in love with him, right? - rather, it was a rhetorical question, because by the look of Olsen everything was clear.
- Let's not talk about it. Elizabeth looked away and cursed silently. “Chris and Renner are coming our way. Scar also looked towards her boyfriend and friend.
- Girls, we were released from physics! said Evans contentedly, putting his hand on Scarlett's waist. - Let's go, honey? Today we were going on a date after school.
- Of course, my love, I remember everything. Okay guys, let's go. - Scarlett looked guiltily at her friend, who was standing and looking at her pleadingly. But Renner smiled and nodded. The bell rang, the corridors of the school were empty.
- Good luck on your date. See you tomorrow! - he said and waved his hand to the distant friends. Lizzie started to leave as well, but Jeremy grabbed her around the waist and pinned her against the locker. He placed his hands on either side of the girl and pressed her whole body against the cool surface.
- And you, baby, stay here ... - he whispered into her lips, bending down to her face.
"Let me go..." Liz hissed and tried to pull away, but what's the point if he's twice her size?
Stop it, you can't escape. - with the most imperturbable kind the guy has told. - I do not want it.
- I will scream. - the girl threatened, trying to snuggle up to the closet, just to be away from him.
- Yes please!
Lizzie didn't understand what happened next. Only after a couple of moments she realized that her friend's lips had covered her, that he was no longer pressing her hands to the greenish surface of the school cupboard, but simply kissing ... The whole world inside her came to life: in the lower abdomen, a stupid feeling of butterflies, which are so much talked about, but not everyone feels them. Thoughts were confused in her head, and then they completely disappeared, she did not feel her legs at all, only Jeremy and the wardrobe held her.

And then, already ready to answer, she suddenly remembered that with these very lips he had recently kissed Sonny Pacheco ...

She pulled away, pressing a soft hand to her lips. Jeremy saw shock, disbelief, tenderness and pain in the green eyes. He was so involved in the euphoria of the gentle kiss, so overwhelmed by the feelings that he did not immediately realize that Lizzy was gone.

In the evening, as soon as she entered the house, Miss Olsen immediately smelled the smell of roasted duck, which her mother cooked only on special occasions.
- Beth, honey, are you here yet? Where is Jeremy? - affectionately asked David, hugged his daughter and patted her on the head.
- He's still in training, I guess. Should come soon. - dumbfounded answered Olsen, sitting down on the sofa.
Why didn't you come together? Valerie was surprised. - You and my blockhead were always together ...
- We usually have different training sessions on Thursdays. I have shooting, he has kickboxing .. Now I have to come .. What, some kind of holiday?
- Family dinner! Jarnett murmured, tucking a strand of her daughter's hair behind her ear.
- Family dinner - this is when only families dine, without guests! Liz said irritably, glancing at Boyd and Sonny.
- Lizzy... - David began, but the girl rolled her eyes and went to her room.
- What's wrong with her? Lee asked in surprise. - Maybe he and Jerome quarreled? He is also somewhat sad and in a bad mood.
- I don't know, they are silent like partisans... - Jarnett sighed and went to the kitchen.

Elizabeth was sitting in her room, trying to do psychology, but her thoughts were occupied with completely different things. That kiss... He was the best in her life, although it was filled with bitterness and despair. The blonde heard the voices of Jeremy and some other people who had definitely not been there until that moment. An anxious feeling crept into the soul, the lower abdomen twisted unpleasantly ... This dinner was not accidental ..
- Who else is there? And so to the people .. at least divide into teams and play football .. - the girl grumbled displeasedly, putting on her headphones and turning on the player.
- So, what do we have .. Affection .. Just like Pacheco .. - Beth chuckled and slammed the psychology textbook shut. She knows the subject very well.
- Lizzy... - she heard through the musical veil, turned around in surprise. She was locking the door... The girl tore off her headphones and turned around. Jeremy stood by closed door, the included nightlight by the bed barely illuminated it.
- What are you doing here? I've locked the door... - Liz asked monotonously. Renner smiled guiltily. In his hands was a skeleton key. - Oh, that's it!
- I locked the door. We need to talk .. - Elizabeth got out of bed, throwing a textbook on her that she had been holding in her hands all this time, and approached her friend.
- About what? she asked unemotionally.
- About Us. - shortly answered the guy, coming closer.
- About Us? We're gone, Jeremy. No. But he came closer and closer. With every step he took, the girl's heart sank, the excitement grew. If only he didn't kiss him... She won't be able to stand it, she won't be able to push him away this time.
We are, Elizabeth. You just don't notice it. - also calmly objected Jer. We are and we always have been. They simply did not understand it .. Or did not want to understand. We can say whatever we want to each other, but let's not lie to ourselves...
- What about Sonny? Lizzie chuckled, folding her arms across her chest. - Or you decided on two fronts ...
I don't need Sonny. I need you, I realized it recently...
- Well, what you understand is already progress! - quipped Lizzie and moved away from him for such a short, but such a long distance. Renner let out something that sounded like a growl, and in an instant he was next to his friend and pulled her to him, pressing her back against his chest.
- I'm actually confessing my love to you here, can you be a little more serious? he hissed in her ear, hot and passionate. In the next moment, both were in some kind of prostration, did not understand what they were doing. Both of them woke up only when Jeremy pressed Chase against the wall, hot, greedily kissing and running hot hands under his T-shirt, and she unfastened the belt on his jeans. Elizabeth recoiled in horror and pressed herself against the wall. She looked at him with wide eyes, frightened, in love. The girl took decisive steps towards the exit, but Jeremy, having come to his senses in time, grabbed her by the arm, pressed her to him. So tight, tight, showing that he won't let go. Never.
- I won't let go... Mine... - he whispers.
- Jeremy... They're waiting for us. Lizzie whispers desperately, but doesn't try to push her away.
- I just want to say that from now on, you are my girlfriend, Elizabeth Olsen. And even if the whole world is against it, we cannot be separated. Looking into large, green eyes, Renner said confidently, tightly squeezing his lover's hand.
- Do not separate ... - Lizzy pulled him to her, kissed him gently and, sighing heavily, opened the door and went out.

There were a lot of people in the dining room. As if it's not a family dinner, but Christmas or something grand. The guests who came greeted the girl, said how grown up she had become, and everything that distant relatives usually say, who have not seen for a long time and finally arrived. Everyone sat down in their seats, Jeremy sank into place next to Lizzie, hugging her lightly. Sonny and Boyd looked very happy, which made the new couple a little tense.
- We are all here to please Jeremy and Elizabeth! David began. The lovers looked at each other.
- Children, we are very glad that you have begun to show sympathy for Sonny and Boyd. Jarnett said. We didn't just introduce you.
- What for? Lizzie pricked up her ears, she tightly squeezed Jeremy's hand under the table. Why did you introduce us?
- We will not beat around the bush... We decided to merge our companies. So when you turn eighteen, Jeremy marries Sonny and Boyd marries Lizzy! Lee's voice rang out, breaking the silence in half. Elizabeth sat still and looked at Jer for support. Parents and guests smiled, expecting to see smiles on the faces of their children.
- Never! hissed Jeremy. The smiles disappeared from the faces of those present, were replaced by bewilderment, the fathers - anger.
- What does "never" mean? David asked.
- It will never happen! Chase yelled, jumping up from her seat, knocking over her chair. - I will never marry Boyd! You have no right!
- Elizabeth-Chase Olsen! boomed his father's voice. - This is not discussed!
- Yes, I do not care what is not discussed there! - entered Jeremy, angrily looking at the "bride" and "groom". "I won't let you act like our lives are yours!" You have no right to decide for us whom to marry and whom to marry! I won't let my Liz marry this jerk, I won't marry this whore!
- The wedding is a month after Lizzie's birthday. - in a tone that brooks no objection, rapped out David.
- I hate you all! - spat Elizabeth and ran out of the dining room, and then out of the house.
- She is mine! - Jeremy gave everyone a contemptuous look and followed his girlfriend.

Elizabeth Olsen, younger sister famous twins, almost never gave rise to gossip regarding her personal life. Meanwhile, in January 2015, the beauty ended a four-year romance with Boyd Holbrook and even broke off her engagement with a young man, which greatly surprised the girl’s close friends.

Now Elizabeth is alone, and the attention of all her male colleagues is riveted to her. During the filming of Captain America: Civil War, Lizzie eclipsed absolutely all the girls, and most young people simply could not take their eyes off her. These include and famous actor Chris Evans, known for his role as Captain America.

Stars at the premiere of a new film in London

The premiere of the film Captain America: Civil War in London in April 2016 was remembered by the audience for the appearance of Elizabeth in an elegant long dress from Alexander McQueen with incredible. The girl looked great, and her male colleagues immediately drew attention to it. However, most of all, young people were attracted by the spicy part of the celebrity's body, which was only slightly covered by thin matter.

Chris Evans shamelessly stared at Elizabeth Olsen's breasts, and he was not at all embarrassed even by the fact that every movement of celebrities was captured by photographers' cameras. In the pictures of the paparazzi, it is clearly seen that Christian cannot take his eyes off the gorgeous cleavage of the beauty.

No less provocative was the behavior of another colleague of Elizabeth on the set - Jeremy Renner. The young man tried to touch the actress for any reason and did not leave the girl a single step when she was passionate about signing autographs for her fans.

Chris and Elizabeth on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

On the occasion of the film's premiere, the actors also visited the famous Ellen DeGeneres show in America. On the air, Chris Evans scared Elizabeth Olsen by rushing around the corner screaming. Although the prank was banal, it certainly made an impression on the girl.

By the way, this is not the first time Chris Evans scares the stars in this show - before Elizabeth Olsen, he did exactly the same with his close friend Scarlett Johanson. This time the presenter took revenge young man behind famous actresses- she arranged an equally funny prank for Chris on the air.

However, the audience was impressed not only by the fear of celebrities, but also by their dance duel. Ellen DeGeneres invited the actors to compete in dance talents. In just a minute, the stars performed cancan, disco, salsa, twerk, " moonwalk"and even the Russian dance" squatting. As it turned out, Chris Evans and Elizabeth Olsen dance very well, which only confirms famous phrase « talented person talented in everything.

Taylor Sheridan has been coming to Cannes for the third year in a row, but only now as a director. His Windy River premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, so Cannes is showing it in Un Certain Regard, not in competition. That, however, does not make the film less interesting.

They already write about Sheridan: "He will either become the new Cormac McCarthy, or freeze to death in the process." In terms of directing, he is not yet Denis Villeneuve, who filmed his first script (The Assassin), but still makes a confident and solid thriller with an important social message.

Windy River is the name of an Indian reservation in Wyoming where woodsman Corey Lambert (Jeremy Renner) works. In the first shots, he methodically shoots a wolf that is aiming at a herd of sheep, but leaves two other wolves alive, cowardly fleeing the scene of the crime. Corey was previously married to a Native American, Wilma (Julia Jones), but their marriage fell apart three years ago when their 16-year-old daughter died. The girl was raped and froze to death, and the killers were never found.

When Lambert, at the request of the sheriff, is looking for a cougar that kills cows, he finds the corpse of 18-year-old Natalie. The girl died in the cold, but, apparently, she was running from someone. The FBI sends in the serious and determined Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen) to investigate. She asks Cory to help her with the investigation, as he knows the places better than anyone. The search for Natalie's killer constantly brings Lambert back to his dead daughter, for which it was not possible to avenge.

Indians play big role in Sheridan's film. On the reservation, they drag out a miserable existence, and young guys, even after graduating from college and the army, have one road - into drug addicts and alcoholics. Corey is very sympathetic to the Native Americans and is not going to leave this unfriendly and snowy place, helping the residents with all his might. Sheridan's Indians and whites are not in conflict, they simply do not have the strength to do so. Their task is to survive in harsh conditions.

Sheridan's investigation turned out to be about the same as Corey's tracking down animals. As a hunter circles in search of a predator, cutting circles, so the film narrows and narrows the circle of suspects. While the director and writer plays with classic western tropes (Sheridan has honed that knowledge on previous scripts), the film is actually a story about the banality of evil.

The director calls Windy River his most personal film. In addition to the message of the complexities of life on the reservation, the picture also contains an observation of the relationship between fathers and children. “There are a lot of things that scare you when you become a father,” Sheridan says. He does a very convincing job of filming Jeremy Renner as a grieving father who gets to experience at least some catharsis by finding his daughter's friend's killer.

Windy River is expertly shot by young British cinematographer Ben Richardson, who has this third film shown at the Sundance Film Festival. Previously there were "Beasts of the Wild South", also shown as part of the program "Un Certain Regard", and "Merry Christmas". Snow-covered mountains and plains, forests and houses are not the easiest landscapes, but Richardson's camera handles them easily.

The rolling fate of the Windy River in Russia is still unclear.
