Finally, spirits from essential oils also have - can cheer you up, relieve fatigue, headache and provide other beneficial effects.

You can make both a convenient solid perfume and eau de toilette based on a mixture of essential oils, vodka and / or distilled water with your own hands at home. In this article, "Forest Fairy" will not only provide proven recipes, but also tell you the main principles of making perfume so that you can experiment on your own.

1. How to create a solid perfume from essential oils

Solid perfume is very convenient to use, can be stored for about 1 year (thanks to beeswax) and is great idea for a gift, since it can be packed in a wide variety of containers.

To make a solid perfume based on essential oils, you will need:

  • Beeswax;
  • Base oil (eg olive, almond, jojoba, grapeseed);
  • Essential oils of choice;
  • Suitable packaging (for example, from an old lip balm).

Beeswax and base oil are usually used in a 1:1 ratio, although sometimes more oils are added. It depends on its viscosity and aromatic qualities.

For example, for a small jar of lip balm, the following ratio of ingredients is perfect:

  • 2 tsp wax;
  • 2 tsp base oil;
  • 40-60 drops of essential oil.

Step 1: Mix the essential oils in a small container and make sure you like the way the combination smells and the concentration.

Step 2: Melt the crushed (grated) beeswax in a water bath. As soon as it melts, add the base oil to it and, stirring thoroughly, bring the mixture to a uniform consistency.

Step 3: Remove the mixture from the heat and quickly pour in the essential oil until the wax sets again (and this happens very quickly!). Stir again until smooth and pour the finished perfume into a pre-prepared container. After 15 minutes, they will already be firm.

If the mixture starts to solidify before you have time to mix it well with the essential oils, you can put the bowl back into the water bath. Just try not to keep it there too long, otherwise some of the essential oil will just evaporate.

2. Toilet water or liquid perfumes made from essential oils with your own hands

To create at home ordinary perfumes from essential oils that are sprayed on the body, it is customary to select top, middle and bottom notes.

This is because some essential oils evaporate faster than others. When you use a mixture of perfume instead of different types essential oils, the aroma you exude gradually changes, revealing its new sides.

The oils that evaporate first (usually within 1-2 hours) are called "top notes". Oils that evaporate in 2-4 hours are considered "middle notes". The “base notes” include essential oils, in which evaporation takes the most time (sometimes up to 2-3 days!).

To make such exquisite perfumes from essential oils with your own hands, follow the following generally accepted rules:

  1. In a mixing container, add essential oils for the bottom note. Usually these are rather sharp aromas that have a persistent smell, and can make up from 10 to 20% of the mixture.
  2. Then add a middle note. This is the heart of your fragrance, emerging as soon as the top notes evaporate. Therefore, it occupies the largest part of the mixture (from 50 to 70%) and includes your favorite floral, fruity and fragrant-herbal scents.
  3. Finally, measure out and pour the right amount of essential oils for the top note into the mixture. It can make up 20-30% of the bouquet and include refreshing mint and citrus scents.

If you are trying to make a perfume with essential oils for the first time, we recommend that you follow the following proportion: 30% is the top note, 50% is the middle note, and 20% is the base note.

  1. Shake the vial with the resulting mixture well and send it to infuse in a dark place for 7-10 days, shaking the vial every 1-2 days. During this time, all the notes will get along with each other, and only then will you be able to adequately evaluate the resulting aroma.
  2. If you're happy with the smell of your perfume, you can add distilled water or alcohol to it, which will keep your essential oil perfumes much longer.

In fact, almost any type of alcohol can be used (vodka, rum, gin, etc.), but its smell must be combined with a mixture of oils. As a rule, about 100 ml of vodka or other alcohol is recommended for a mixture of 50-70 drops of essential oils. Also, sometimes part of the alcohol is replaced with distilled water (i.e., about 60-70 ml of vodka and 30-40 ml of water are used).

  1. Step for the most patient: put the finished perfume in a cool, dark place for another 1 month. It is not necessary to do this, but such a period of time will allow the smell of alcohol to disappear and the smells of essential oils to open up even better.

Here are some more tips you might find useful:

  • Get a separate notebook, where you will record the number of drops of each oil used and the results of your experiments. This will allow you to perfect your perfume recipe and properly proportion it in subsequent preparations.
  • To store essential oil perfumes, use a bottle dark color. It will hold back the light and thus prolong the life of your perfume.
  • If you do not dilute the mixture of essential oils with water / alcohol, or use a base oil (almond, grape seed, etc.) to dilute, then you will be better off storing the perfume in a bottle with roller. Oils in pure form are quite dense, so without alcohol/water they are a little more difficult to spray on the skin.
  • try do not spray Perfumes made from essential oils directly on clothing as they can leave greasy marks.

It happens that for years we cannot choose our ideal perfume, getting lost among hundreds of aromatic compositions and brands. This is not surprising, because most mass-market cosmetic brands offer us banal fragrances, which, moreover, are created on the basis of synthetic ingredients. A completely different matter is niche perfumery, which is produced exclusively from natural oils and extracts.

Alas, the cost of such perfumery is excessively high. But there is another option: independent creation perfumery masterpiece, namely - solid spirits. Unlike alcohol-based liquid perfumes, solid perfumes are much easier to make, and in terms of durability they are in no way inferior to store-bought perfumes. But their main advantage is that you will be able to independently develop the entire pyramid of aroma.

Solid perfume technology

The convenience of using creamy or solid perfumes is undeniable, because they can be carried with you without fear of spilling, and due to the oily texture, the fragrance stays on the skin for a long time even in hot weather. summer days. Among other things, the creation of perfume is incredible creative process, which does not require strict adherence to dosage and gives you room for imagination. In addition, solid perfumes are considered uncomplicated perfumes.

For their manufacture, solid base and aromatic essential oils are needed. The first thing to remember is that the safety and longevity of a homemade perfume is directly related to the quality of the essential oils used. Safety, first of all, implies the hypoallergenicity of all ingredients. The fact is that inexpensive synthetic oils very often provoke the appearance of allergic reactions in the form of a rash, irritation and itching.

Truly high quality essential oils will never be cheap!

Therefore, take care of highest quality all components. Except positive impact on the skin and on well-being, perfumes must be persistent, otherwise the very idea of their manufacture is meaningless. Again, only essential oils can be persistent. highest quality. Therefore, do not save on essential oils, because in the end your perfume will still turn out cheaper than niche fragrances.

It is most convenient to store solid perfumes in small medallions, jars with lids or special pendants in the form of small bubbles. In addition to a pleasant aroma, dry perfumes can have a positive effect on health, since essential oils have soothing, tonic, and other beneficial therapeutic properties. So, you will need beeswax, as well as base and essential oils.

Beeswax must be grated on a fine grater, mixed with base oil and heated in a water bath until the ingredients are completely dissolved. After that, you need to slightly cool the mixture and add essential oils to it. Then it remains to pour the perfume into the selected container and wait for them to completely solidify. When creating a new perfume, it is recommended to write down the ratio of oils so that, if desired, you can accurately reproduce the flavor you like.

Dry perfume compositions

To choose, as perfumers say, your ideal heart notes, after creating the perfume, be sure to let it brew for a day. At this time, periodically inhale the aroma and get used to it. Then apply perfume to the inside of your wrist and near your earlobes. Select the shades of aroma that appeal to you the most and use them in your perfume compositions.

Woman's hand with perfume bottle

For a long time, before the advent of a developed industry, each bottle of perfume was created by hand, and often by special order. Mass, impersonal production then did not know. In addition, the most famous beauties in history often made up scents for themselves, strictly selecting each note of the fragrance. And although few dare to challenge the merits of classics like Chanel No. 5 and Este Lauder, these famous bottles lack the main thing - your individuality. Meanwhile, having imagination, desire and a little taste, perfumes can be created independently.

Beginning Perfumer Rules

Before running to the store for new fragrances, and then to your own kitchen - enthusiastically creating - it would be nice to master the theoretical part. At least the basic rules. If fragrant creativity captures you headlong, a little later you will find out many of its subtleties and secrets. (And it is quite possible that you will open your own.) For now, the basic rules.

Unless you are a master innovator, then you will build your perfume composition on the “three pillars”:

  • spirit head

The first note of fragrance that lasts from 5 minutes to half an hour on the skin. Bright and memorable, it seems to declare itself and quickly evaporate, leaving a tart memory. Picking this note correctly is very important. Usually it consists of light volatile smells - fresh citruses, herbs, lavender. Or more severe nutmeg and sandalwood.

  • Spirit Heart

The main fragrance that binds and unites all the others. This is the very subtle, but clear trail that will accompany you for several hours. It uses more persistent smells and compositions in which you can express yourself by picking up and weaving 3-4 favorite flavors. Sweet floral or fresh woody scents, herbs, spices, fruits... it's up to you to decide.

  • perfume base

The most persistent substances that are the last to leave your skin. It will remind you of itself 12 or even 24 hours later, until the last traces of the aroma disappear. The base usually includes vetiver, clove, cypress, frankincense, musk, rosewood, cedar and juniper.

There is no strict distribution - what kind of smells should get into the "heart", "head" and "base". Many fragrances wander from one group to another, obeying the idea of the master. As soon as you get used to composing compositions a little, you will learn to easily understand which smells should be revealed first, which ones will become the main note of perfumes, and which ones will “close” the procession of aromas. And the oils are related in the following proportions: for one drop of the “head note”, there are 2 drops of the “heart note” and 3 drops of the “base”.

Required Components

To create your own unique composition, you need to purchase:

  • Essential oils. For high-quality perfumes, of course, good and expensive components are also required. But while you are just mastering the “perfume production”, it will be enough to purchase 4-5 fragrances you like from the nearest pharmacy or cosmetic store - simple and cheap.
  • Oil, wax or alcohol for the base, depending on what you are going to be dealing with. From oils, choose fatty, odorless ones - coconut, almond, grape seed, etc. Instead of alcohol, ordinary vodka, again, odorless, is suitable for beginners.
  • A fixative to keep the fragrance from evaporating too quickly. Sandalwood or vanilla often play this role: they quickly give up their scent, but retain others. Another cheap substitute is regular castor oil. Or even ordinary confectionery vanillin!
  • Glass vials and pipettes for mixing and storing compositions.
  • Strips of paper to test on them drop by drop of aroma, trying how this or that composition will “sound”.

Compositions based on alcohol and oil

Already by the name it is clear that for future fragrant mixtures you will need one of the indicated bases. Which one is preferable? Depends on what result you want.

  • Alcohol reveals aromas more strongly, making them richer and brighter.
  • The oil holds odors well, and therefore, a bottle with an oil mixture will smell fragrant much longer.
  • fragrances on oil based it doesn't take time to stand - they're often ready to eat right after you've mixed them. Sometimes it is better to let the oil stand for 5-7 days, but alcohol compounds will have to wait in the wings longer, standing for 2-3 weeks on a dark shelf in the closet.
  • But you can use alcohol spirits without fear, spraying clothes and hair. Oily creams are best mixed with day or night creams or gently applied to the wrists.

Perfume oil-based "First Bouquet":

Mix essential oils: 8 drops of cinnamon, 3 - bergamot, 1 - grapefruit, 1 drop of ginger and 2 drops of sweet vanilla. Combine the mixture with 50 ml of almond oil or jojoba oil.

Recipe "Flower wind":

15 drops of ylang-ylang essential oil, 12 drops of geranium, 5 drops of jasmine and rosewood, 2 drops of rose and 1 drop of sweet vanilla. Combine the resulting bouquet with base oil (any odorless) and you can use it right away.

Depending on how much base oil to take, the aroma will be weaker or more intense. The usual ratio calls for 75 to 95% base. The share of essential oils remains no more than 25%.

Recipe for spirits on alcohol "Sandalwood leaves":

Mix 15 ml of alcohol (90%), 10 ml of distilled water. Combine with a mixture of essential oils: 12 drops - sandalwood, 5 drops - moss, 2 drops - iris, 2 drops - nutmeg, 1 drop - lemongrass. Let it brew for 2-3 weeks in a dark place.

Fresh orange recipe:

Mix 5 drops of cypress oil, 5 drops of myrtle, 2 drops of lemon and mint and 6 drops of orange oil with an alcohol-water base. Further - as in the previous recipe.

solid perfume

The basis of solid perfume is wax mixed with base oil in a ratio of 1 to 2. Melt the beeswax (best purified - it does not have its own smell) and the oil taken for the base in a water bath. Wait a bit and pour the bouquet of essential oils you have compiled into the cooling mixture. Stir with a glass rod and pour into the container where you are going to store the solid perfume. Let cool.

When composing a composition for solid perfumes, you don’t have to worry about a fixative: even without it, the wax will reliably hold the smell created by your imagination.

Recipe for solid perfume "Forest rain":

3 drops of nutmeg oil, 2 drops of juniper, cedar, and bergamot, 1 drop of pine and 1 drop of lemongrass. Combine with melted wax and base oil and let cool.

You can repeat any of the above recipes yourself. You can find many interesting blends on the Internet and forums of "home perfumers". Or create your own perfume. Arm yourself with your favorite scents, strips of paper, and necessary tools. Drip a drop of fragrance on each leaf. Now try to connect them by bringing two different pieces of paper to your nose at the same time. Do you like the result? Too sharp? Lacking a sweet note or freshness? Search until you find the song that suits your taste. And immediately after that, take on alcohol, oil or wax to immediately create your own personal perfume based on them.

Yes, and of course, do not forget to write down the results of your research, so that if necessary, you can easily repeat your favorite composition.

Pheromones at home - true or myth?

Pheromones ... Since the discovery of these volatile substances that make us irresistibly attractive to the opposite sex, they excite the minds and excite the hearts. Alas, it is impossible to create perfumes with pheromones at home! But there is no reason to despair about this.

To tell the truth, the action of pheromones is not so undeniable, as perfume manufacturers trumpet. They can attract someone, leave someone indifferent. Some people won't like it at all. The effect of smells with "spicy" additives is based more on the confidence of their owner. If a woman knows that she is fragrant with a fragrance with a magical "love potion" in the composition, she becomes more relaxed, bolder and automatically more attractive. And you can easily replace unknown pheramones with aphrodisiacs in your home perfumes. Believe me, the effect will be no worse: you will know the secret component of your fragrance.

Aphrodisiac Perfume Recipe:

5 drops of bergamot oil, 5 - sandalwood, 1 drop of vanilla and a drop of cinnamon. Mix with a teaspoon of grape seed oil and lightly touch your wrists and neck behind your ear with a dampened finger (unless you are allergic to these oils). And do not try to doubt your irresistibility!

Video

Perfumery, like any art, requires freedom of imagination and courage. And most importantly, you should enjoy shuffling and mixing flavors with passion. Do not hesitate and do not be afraid to add one more, moreover, such a fragrant, note of individuality to your image.
