How to draw a box with a pencil. How to draw a gift for the new year on a graphics tablet

31.03.2019

As a continuation of the series of lessons about simple things, which cause a lot of problems for novice artists, today there will be an instruction on how to draw a box in stages. A box is a container in which you can put, whatever you want, you can put. The classic box consists of specially folded strong paper, popularly referred to as cardboard. It is likely that the Japanese invented it, like the origami technique. But there is a more rigid form of a box - a box. The difference between them is this:

  • The walls of the box are made of wood, or other material stronger than cardboard;
  • The box has the shape of a parallelepiped, but if necessary, it can be unfolded and folded in a layer. You can't do this trick with a box. Even if the box is empty, it will still take up a lot of space;
  • The capacity of the box and crate may be the same, but the weight of the crate is much larger. So to transport the box, you will most likely need the help of a friend, or even a special team of movers;

If you like logic games, I recommend trying Sokoban - a puzzle game in which the player must arrange the boxes correctly. The plot there is not very good, but for those who like to excite their brain, that's it. And for those who like to excite their imagination, I recommend trying to portray:

How to draw a box with a pencil step by step

Step one. Draw the shape of a parallelepiped. It is slightly higher, this is because you need to include the length of the closing sheets here.
Step two. Now let's show real shape, and these very side sheets. They should not be higher than the initial frame size that we showed in step 1.
Step three. Let's start shading. The inner part is darker - the strokes are denser, the outer part is lighter - the strokes are less frequent.
Step four. Now we have to remove unnecessary lines. Here you need to understand which lines should be visible and which should be erased. Those who went to geometry lessons at school should already know, and if not, repeat like I did:
Try to depict other household items, for example, we have such lessons.

No holiday is complete without the most important thing - gifts. What can we say about the New Year? This is one of the biggest holidays, when everyone is busy looking for gifts for relatives and friends. Whatever the chosen gift, it must be beautifully packaged. Packages are various kinds, sizes and colors, but today we will talk about the usual box with a beautiful bow. We'll find out how to draw a gift New Year and to make the composition look more attractive, we will decorate it with a sprig of spruce and two balls.

Tools and materials:

  1. Graphic tablet and pen (Wacom Intos Draw was used, but any will do) connected to a computer or laptop.
  2. Program Adobe Photoshop.

You can also use a simple pencil, eraser and paper.

Stages of work:

Step 1. IN Adobe program Photoshop create a new surface: File - New. Set the dimensions of the new document in pixels: width - 850 pixels. and height - 595 pixels. You will get a white surface on which we will draw our illustration. For the brush, set the main diameter to 5, and the color to dark gray:

Step 2 We draw a rectangle from which we will build on when building a gift. Its width will be slightly larger than its height:

Step 3 Pass through the center vertical line, which is shifted slightly to the right:

Step 4 Now you can draw the sides of the gift and its box, but draw only the foreground. Leave the background blank for now, because there will be a big bow that will cover it:

Step 5 Let's erase the lines that helped in the construction with an eraser. Now we don't need them:

Step 6 On the gift, we outline the general lines of the bow, and on the sides it will be held by a ribbon:

Step 7 In front, draw two circles - Christmas decorations, which will be in contact inside. We don’t draw the circles a little to add them later in this place of their attachment (Christmas decorations):

Step 8 From above on the Christmas tree balls we will draw fasteners, and on the bow we will draw the bends of the ribbon:

Step 9 In the background we will place the branches of the Christmas tree, so now we outline their bases (from which the needles will grow):

Step 10 Reduce the main diameter of the brush from 5 to 3 and draw small needles. They should be slightly curved towards the edge. The strokes must be applied very tightly so that the branch is more fluffy:

Step 11 We correct the drawing by removing extra lines where they are not needed, and adding in places where they are missing:

Step 13 Make the gray tone a little darker and apply on top, but this time the volume of the shadow will be less than the previous one. Such a change in tone will help make the transition of the shadow smoother:

Step 14 Again we make the tone darker and apply it to our drawing:

Step 15 The next step in applying the shadow will be with a darker gray tone, and place it all on a smaller surface:

Let's make this task a little more difficult. In order to teach you how to really feel and control this empty flat piece of paper, I want to introduce you to complex but interesting objects - empty boxes.

1. So, draw a cube.

2. Then draw a slightly slanted two parallel lines.

parallel lines- These are two lines going in the same direction and located at the same distance. When I say the word "parallel" I imagine 2 lines in one word.

Perpendicular lines are two lines that intersect at right angles. For example, in this line, you see text that is perpendicular to the edge of this page.

3. ATTENTION! See how this top edge of the box lid is drawn, following all the slanted lines, sloping slightly upwards to the left. I will refer to this corner as the northwest direction. Imagine a compass.

The four most commonly used directions that I will refer to throughout the lessons will be the directions: northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast. Take a look at this compass.

Now I'll flip the compass. Again, perspective distorts and flattens the object, creating the illusion of depth by bringing one edge of the object closer to the viewer.

Pay attention to this drawn tilted compass and the four indicated directions - NW, NE, SW and SE - all of these lines coincide with the lines of your cube.
I call it "3D compass". This is a marvelous tool for correct consistent alignment of lines. Without properly constructed corners, your drawings will look askew.

4. Draw a lid on the other side of the box using two parallel lines.

5. Using the bottom line of the box in the CB direction, draw the top of the box lid in the same direction (CB).

6. Draw slanting lines representing the flaps of the box at the bottom front.

7. Once again, using the bottom edges of the box as guides, complete the box lids by drawing lines in the NE and NW directions. I will repeat this over and over: use the drawn lines as a guide to draw the next ones. By always referring to the 3D compass angles already built, your drawings will look solid, focused, and most importantly, three-dimensional.

8. Draw short, peeking lines on the back of the box. Notice how one small line affects the overall 3D illusion of the drawing. This little line reverse side boxes makes "BAM!" and at this point our drawing turns from a two-dimensional sketch into a three-dimensional object.

9. Draw a horizon line and determine the position of the light source.

10. For the correct drawing of the falling shadow, use the 3D compass. Draw a guide line across the bottom of the box in a SE direction. ATTENTION! This is the most common mistake that beginners make - they start to drop the shadow below the guide line. Note that the shadow must be in line with the guide.

Right

Wrong

11. Darkening under the two covers of the box gives reality to the image. These are wonderful little details that successfully showcase volume, refined detail, and boundaries. In this example, these shadings help pull the lids out towards the eyes, pushing the box deeper into the picture.

12. This is the most effective step in each lesson. Clean up your sketch with an eraser, removing extra lines, and sharpen the edges of the drawing with an outline stroke. This will move the image further away from the background. Finish the cast shadows on the left side of the box and inside the box, away from the light source.

I always encourage you to have fun during the lesson by adding lots of extra details, neat little ideas that your creative imagination to bring the drawing to life. I put a few small items in the box so they are barely visible. Pay attention to how even these small details add zest to the sketch.

LESSON 5: PRACTICE

Speaking of extra details to enhance your drawing, let's modernize the lesson with carton box? How about a treasure chest overflowing with pearls and coins? We are so dissatisfied with today's economy, mortgage payments, loans and taxes.. So let's picture our own wealth!

1. Let's start with a basic cube shape, just tilt the sides a bit. Now indicate the guide lines and label them for better memorization.

2. Draw two parallel lines slightly opening the lid of the treasure chest.

The most magical and incredible time is the procedure for receiving a gift. The mystery, the hope to receive the secret and the festivity of everything that happens makes any person experience intimate moments from childhood, when all dreams were shattered by a wave of the parents' hand. How to draw a gift so that it differs from a regular box or parcel? Easily. It is enough to add a beautiful wrapper and a large, colorful bow to it.

Black and white side view example

Let's figure out now in detail how to draw gift box. Let's start with the box. We draw a rectangle. This will be the box itself. We place a lying rectangle on it, but its height should be small, and the length should be greater than the length of the bottom one. Now in the foreground vertically draw a strip of tape. From above we attach a bow, which consists of two semicircles and two ends of the ribbon.

We direct the drawing with a bolder pencil or felt-tip pen.

Erase the guide lines. Present box is ready.

Second option

Let's slightly change the configuration of the product and consider how to draw a gift with a pencil. We remember geometric figures and draw a three-dimensional brick.

On the front and sides we make a strip of wrapping tape. From above, they should cross at a right angle. At this point, we make six turns in the form of ovals.

We guide all the lines with a bold felt-tip pen.

Shade the box with a pencil blue color and add blue round polka dots to its entire surface. We paint over the tape itself in red. To add realism to the work, draw a shadow behind the box with a black pencil.

green gift

Now let's unfold the box and look at it from the end. So, how easy it is to draw a gift. In the foreground is the edge of the box. From it we lead to the left and right side two rectangles. Above. Retreating a little from the border, we draw another line parallel to the top. This will be the border of the lid. We draw a straight line from the edge diagonally, which will end on the opposite edge. Draw another diagonal on the sides. It turns out a box.

On the lid in the area of the cross we make a large bow.

We select with a felt-tip pen all the necessary zones, leaving undrawn parts, areas on the strip.

Erase the guide lines.

We make the box green. And the bow and ribbon are red. An excellent and high-quality present is ready.

Half a turn

If the previous three options could not be mastered perfectly, then you should move on to this step by step master class. We analyze in detail how to draw a gift in stages. We arrange the box so that in the foreground there is not only an edge, but also a little edge. We make two rectangles of different sizes, draw a part of the lid on them.

Add the top rectangle and wrap the gift in a ribbon. Attach a bow on top.

It remains to paint it. Making the side faces pink, and the top of the box is light pink. We paint over the tape in a yellow tint.

The final touch: add a shadow in the form of a dark stripe under the lid, and make white polka dots over the entire area of the box.

Drawing with children

The last option is a group of such presentations. Consider how to draw a gift for a child. We make a low but wide box with hearts on the front side. From above we cling a bow.

Behind this box we draw a narrow but high one with circles on the front face. Draw a bow on top.

In the background we make the box bigger and taller. On the front face, draw oblique lines.

It remains to paint them in bright flowers at your discretion.

Such a bright decor will allow you to somewhat decorate a modest packaging design. The more interesting and mysterious the shape and size, the more fun it is for the birthday boy to guess the contents. Often a small but very expensive present can be packed in a large number of different bags, boxes and other containers. As a result, the holiday turns out to be really exciting and exciting.
