I also shaded the white part of the eye a bit and added some small details for the iris by working with the eraser, adding little black dots and lines, and giving the drawing some little strokes.

This is just a step for finishing touches. We make soft sfumato to smooth out the lines. Darkest are the dark edges where it's really dark to add contrast to the image. Make sure the main features are really noticeable. You can also make the reflection of the lashes in the center of the eye - in the iris, if you like. And you can make the white part of the eye look glossy in highlights and shadows, or even you can add blood vessels. Just keep adding details and shadows around the eyes until you are satisfied with the result!
