Drawing course with colored pencils. Red-eyed tree frog

21.02.2019

Today we have the most common frog, drawn in a cartoon style. There will be no realism here, so the drawing lesson will not be the most difficult. Let's get started with the frog drawing lesson for kids!

Step 1

First, outline the contours of the head and torso. Please note that the head should be much larger than the body. It has the shape of a ball, and the body looks like a smooth figure, slightly expanding downwards.

Step 2

Many, many different lines at first glance, but let's try to figure it out. First, consider the head - here are the lines of the eyes (a pair of elongated ovals), above them - a pair of skin folds, parallel in shape to the lines of the eyes. By the way, the eyes are very high. Below them, still above the conditional center of the head, draw a nose with a mound and a couple of folds of the mouth (they are wide and very similar to ears).

We go down below and draw the limbs. The hind legs are behind the body, they are folded so that the two parts of the legs become almost parallel. The fingers are slightly rounded and widened towards the tips; in general, the limbs should look very thin and weak compared to voluminous figures torso and head.

Step 3

We frame the face of our frog. Outline the contours of the eyes, wrinkles and pupils. We draw a mouth, outline the folds under it and directly at the tips of the main line that forms it.

How to draw a frog? It would seem that such a simple animal, what could be complex? However, in order to depict on paper or in graphics editor this is a small creature, certain knowledge and skills are needed.

Master artists can draw a frog without much difficulty. But what about beginners or children. It is for them that this material is intended. In it, we will look at several examples of how to draw a frog in stages with a pencil for children or beginners. Simple illustrated lessons will help you learn the basic principles that you need to follow during the workflow.

By the way, about the process. There are other interesting materials on our site that will help you and other animals. Although the section is still far from complete and there will be many more texts in the future. If you don't want to miss their release, be sure to subscribe to updates.

How to draw a frog for kids

The frog appears very often in various legends and legends of many peoples of the world. Suffice it to recall the fairy tale about the Princess - a frog or the recently released cartoon "The Princess and the Frog". Therefore, it is not surprising that many guys want to portray this animal.

Before you understand how to draw a frog for children with a pencil and step by step, you should understand several features that are characteristic of this beast:

  1. The frog is common name for a huge number of animals.
  2. Dimensions and appearance frogs varies depending on the age, species or sex of the animal.
  3. Most of them live in water bodies and feed on smaller living creatures.
  4. Toads are a type of frog. They are usually much larger.

These things, insignificant at first glance, for the artist, nevertheless, will help children depict the frog correctly. Specifically, in this lesson, we will not touch on such subtleties as realism, the correctness of anatomy and other aspects. We decided to depict this animal in a "cartoon" form.

Laying out the basics

As in our other lessons, for example, "", we will begin our drawing with the designation of the leading axes. From their location, size and shape depends on which one appearance will have a frog. So that this stage does not cause difficulties, first imagine exactly how your character should look like at the final stage.

Since we are talking about how to draw a frog with a pencil for children, we will take the simplest pose - full face. It implies direct eye contact between the image and the viewer. To do this, we will draw an oval at the top of the sheet, flattened at the top and bottom. After that, we divide the figure into four parts with horizontal and vertical lines as shown in the figure. In this case, the latter should go beyond the oval.

After that, we will draw an arc, the ends of which will rest against our oval. This will be the body. In this case, the vertical line that we drew earlier should divide the resulting figure into two equal parts. If one of the halves turns out a little larger than the other, don't be discouraged. There is no fundamental difference in this. However, the same dimensions are desirable. Immediately, at an equal distance from each other, draw two small circles (paws).

What do we do next?

At the previous stage, we got a draft version. It is on it that the entire further drawing will line up. As you can see, it is completely symmetrical. If it doesn't work out for you, there's a little trick:

  • bend the sheet in half along the same vertical axis;
  • draw parts of all the above figures on the right side of the axis for you;
  • fold the sheet along a vertical line so that the pattern faces outward;
  • put the paper on the window. The drawing will then be visible;
  • circle your shapes on the other side and lay the sheet back.

With these steps, you can draw absolutely any shape symmetrically without the help of any tools. However, we digress.

Now connect the lower legs and torso with a few lines as shown in the picture. At the same time, the lower lines bend smoothly, while the upper ones break in one place, forming sharp corner. Please note that this is only a rough draft. Therefore, do not press too hard on the pencil during the workflow.

First comes the head

Inside the top oval, draw two circles that will extend beyond the borders of the shape. To draw the eyes of a frog in stages with a pencil for children, be guided by those lines that we depicted at the very beginning.

Inside each of the shapes, draw two very thick dots. Connect the circles with a smooth concave line on top, and the same line on the bottom. To depict the latter, it is enough just to circle the oval with a harder pencil. Inside the shape, draw an object that looks like an orange or apple slice. so we got a cute cartoon frog face.

Let's not forget about the paws and torso

Now that the frog's head is completely ready, let's take on the paws of our character. Along one of the lines that connects the lower circles to the torso, draw two curved lines. This is how you will depict the front legs of your creation. Draw a few more lines from them to draw the phalanges and membranes.

It remains the case for the hind legs. Draw two curved lines, focus on the location of the entire pattern. If you followed us, then you will succeed as shown in the figure below. If you somewhere deviated from our recommendations, then draw the limbs so that they look organic. Even though this cartoon style, there are certain laws in it.

At the end

At the final stage, erase all the auxiliary shapes and lines that we drew earlier. Circle all the lines again. Make sure that the borders of the picture are not too bold. To adjust the thickness, use the eraser.

In principle, this lesson on how to draw a frog in stages with a pencil for children can be considered complete. However, we believe that the character will be completed if it is decorated. You might end up with something like this.

Some species of frogs are very brightly colored. However, a specific message is hidden behind the abundance of colors - a warning. Bright colors the creature is said to be poisonous and unfit for consumption by other, larger predators.

How to draw a frog for beginners

In the previous case, we chose the "cartoon" style. It is much easier to portray a character with it than to make it more realistic and believable. This time, to draw a frog with a pencil for beginners, we will take a more believable frog as a basis.

To make the drawing correct, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with photographs of living creatures. It is even better if you manage to see the animal in its natural habitat or at least in a zoo. So you can understand the habits of the animal, the features of its movements, hunting, etc. All this will become an added bonus when depicting frogs.

Let's start with lines

This time we will not use any auxiliary shapes. To depict a realistic frog, it will be enough conventional lines. Place a sheet of paper in landscape orientation. In other words, the width must be greater than the height. Draw a curved line in several places as shown in the figure. This is the upper boundary of the creature, its back.

On the top of the line draw the eyes. Note that this time we chose the profile pose. This means that one of the sides is hidden for us. Therefore, we depict one eye fully, and the other is only denoted by a small convex upward line. You can read more about poses and perspective in our article "".

Draw down another slightly curved line from the top of the main line as shown on the screen. Thus we drew the body of our frog. After that - another one that comes out of the previous segment. Yes, at this stage they do not look like that, but a little later you will understand why we left it in this form.

The case for paws

Now it's time to draw the frog legs step by step for beginners. From the end of one of the lines, draw a curved line so that it intersects the lowest of the segments of our drawing.

Next, draw another line, as shown in the figure below. Note that it bends a lot in several places. So we will depict the phalanges on the paws of the animal. Draw two more lines here. One of them denotes another of the creature's fingers, the other - the hind paw.

Since our frog initially sits on its hind legs, we will show this by drawing a curved line in several places. Then you just have to repeat the steps done in the previous step. But remember that the frog is shown in profile.

Final stage

The last thing that remains for us in this lesson is to decorate our creature with a kind of ornament on the back. Remember that all frogs are different. Accordingly, the patterns with which they were born also differ. The pattern can be absolutely anything. Look at the photos of the animal and draw the frog step by step with a beginner pencil with an ornament that you like more than others.

In addition to frogs and toads, there are tree frogs on the planet. This is the smallest family in terms of the number of individuals. Some of its representatives, in order to escape from enemies, learned to plan in the air. Because of this, some call them "flying frogs."

Another way to draw a frog

We looked at the main examples that are used when depicting frogs. We considered "cartoon" and realistic styles. This time we will draw this creature in a mixed style, which has absorbed the features of both directions.

Always start from the head

As in previous cases, we start drawing a frog from the head. Draw an oval. Draw two lines from it: one long and one very short. From the latter, at the same time, draw another segment that will connect the previous lines.

Further, light sketches picture hind legs creatures. Weak pressure on the pencil is needed to final stages I did not have to stain the drawing when erasing with an eraser. In the same way draw the front limbs.

As you can see, the anatomy of our character is different from the traditional one. This style cannot be called realistic. However, you can’t call it completely “cartoonish” either.

The face is the basis of everything

The next thing we need to depict when drawing a frog with a pencil in stages is the face. Since we are mixing styles, we will give the character some kind of humanity. Let's do it with our eyes. Draw two ovals and divide them into two parts with an easy curved line. The upper part is the character's eyelid.

Next, lightly draw one of the nostrils (nooseless frogs! Just like He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named). Here, draw a mouth. Since we are "humanizing" our character, let's make him smile. In the previous step, we did not complete the front paws. It's time to do it.

Final stage

Now you can safely circle all the draft lines, erase unnecessary elements. Don't forget to draw the bumps on the body and the pupils. To make the latter successful, read our article "". Although it addresses specific Japanese style, the material has helpful tips and recommendations.

In principle, on this drawing of a frog in a mixed style can be considered complete. However, it can be decorated to complete the look. Besides. You can add additional elements, for example, a water lily on which the animal can sit. As a result, you might end up with something like this:

If you liked the material, we will be glad. Write your wishes and recommendations in the comments to the text or to us by mail. You will find the addresses in the "" section. If you want to continue learning to draw using our lessons,

Let's take the topic "amphibians". Now we will draw a frog. An ordinary simple frog. Let's get rid of the fabulous association that has stuck in our teeth. We will draw realistically and no crowns and arrows - the unfortunate princess is already impossibly messed up, it is quite possible to give her a rest. Simple frogs are people too and deserve attention.

Here you go, principled position formulated, let's get down to business. I saw a lot of frogs in lakes and swamps, and in our garden frogs jump in the grass even in the heat.

How to draw a frog step by step

Let's start with a pencil sketch. Be sure to mark the midline of the body - the spine and the lines of attachment of the limbs.

Now we are ready to draw the frog step by step. Let's start with the body - it is teardrop-shaped. The neck is not pronounced, and the head seems to merge with the body.

Let's draw the hind legs. They are strongly bent and the knees are spread apart. Well, here you have to be very careful and draw the thigh and lower leg pressed against each other consciously. I have seen many times how children, copying from the board, just scribbled - sort of like "there are paws", but I advise you to honestly understand the anatomy of a frog, if we have taken to learn to draw realistically. It can help you with this.

When the frog is sitting, the powerful hind legs are bent and the knees are almost pressed to the ground (contrary to expectation: when a person or a cat, a dog ... is sitting, the knees are raised, sticking up).

Literally immediately behind the head grow front legs. No pronounced shoulders. Paws, however, like human hands, but ... fingers. Like a lizard, the frog's fingers are long and somehow strange and unsystematic bend. In addition, a sitting frog puts the hands of the front paws turned inward, very "clubfoot". Yes, by the way, when a frog sits, it must lean on all four paws, raise the front legs and hold something in them, the frog cannot.

We draw the details of the head. Eyes! Large, round, they bulge and stick straight out of the head. The same type of eyes in crocodiles and hippos are periscopes to hide under water to have an overview. The frog's mouth is perhaps wide, but as long as it keeps it closed, it is not particularly appreciated. The nose is blunt-wedge-shaped. Nostrils on top.

And we'll color it. By the way, they are not all that green. frogs for the most part have the color of mud - swamp coloring with brown spots.

This frog was drawn in detail. Now a few more answers to the question “how to draw a frog?” already only in pictures, without explanation, sort of like everything is already said.

Draw a frog - lesson 2

First, a hunched back and immediately a head - with almost no transition:

Let's draw bent paws:

And another drawing of a frog, and also a side view.

Here is a drawing of a frog, it can be used as a coloring book:

To be honest, I never believed the pictures in children's books depicting frogs with smiles wider than their shoulders and eyes really on their foreheads. But here is a photo from the Internet, I don’t want to believe it, but I have to - the full face of the frog’s muzzle is completely cartoonish.

Well, as it is, let's draw it. First, of course, a sketch. No matter how comical the face of a smiling frog may be, we must first take into account the symmetry of the structure of the head. Be sure to draw (without pressure) the lines of construction: the axis of symmetry, the line of the mouth and the line of the eyes.

Now draw an open mouth:

It just so happened that frogs are considered quite unpleasant creatures. But remember how many times they became heroes of fairy tales and cartoons! It is no coincidence that often children are asked to draw a cute frog-princess or a traveler. This is easy to deal with if you know where to start and how to draw the details. Simple Tips will help you draw a character without much difficulty.

How to draw a frog with a pencil step by step?

Every drawing is based on basic technique execution. For example, you can create a realistic picture or something stylized. With frogs in this regard, it is easier. Almost any character in a fairy tale or cartoon can be drawn using geometric shapes. You probably know this way. The construction is carried out through circles (sometimes deformed) and ovals.

The first thing we need to do is draw a sketch with a pencil. At the 2nd stage, you will complete it in color in any technique you like. Let's start with a cute cartoon frog.

The first step is to create the body. To do this, draw an irregular oval. This figure is widened at the top and narrows towards the bottom. In some ways, it resembles the oval of a human face.

We draw an imaginary vertical line in the middle of the figure. On both sides of it we draw circles that will be the eyes of the frog. They should be located close to each other and intersect with the torso just below the middle.

The size of the circles depends on your preference. Ideally, they occupy 1/7 of the body in height. How to understand it? Take a pencil and hold it in right hand vertically. Then from a distance, as it were, measure the height of the circles, marking it on a pencil with your thumb. Without removing it, “lay” the height of the circles in the body.

Let's move on to drawing the paws. To do this, we again divide the figure vertical line in half. On both sides of it we draw elongated ovals with a pointed top and bottom. Each foot is located at an angle of 45 degrees to the body. It starts above the middle, and ends about 1 cm above the lower part of the body. The pointed figure also crosses the frog's tummy. The right one is drawn diagonally from right to left, and the left one is vice versa.

Let's move on to the detailed drawing of the details. On the bases of the paws, we perform 2 arcs. We draw them, stepping back a little from the bottom. In direction, they coincide with the paws. Below, where they ended, we outline the fins. They have a slight rounding at the top. Further to the bottom form 2 membranes. The easiest way to start is by drawing an oval. Then, at the end, instead of rounding, draw a small arc towards the center, and then immediately make another one, connecting it to the other side.

The frog should rest on its front legs. Therefore, below on the body, on the right and left, we draw 2 figures that look like commas. "Look" they must different sides. In the lower part of these parts, we perform the last part of the paws. It looks like a palm with 3 webbed fingers. On the flippers we draw 2 small dividing lines in the middle.

The final stage is drawing the remaining details. In front of the eyes, draw 2 circles-pupil. Slightly below them in the middle, we perform an arc that is located down. Draw 2 more on both sides of it. They should “look” in different directions. Got a mouth. On the bases of the paws and the head of the character we draw circles. This color occurs in real frogs. It remains only to erase unnecessary lines with an eraser. We remove them at the intersections of the base shapes. Now you know how to draw a frog with a pencil step by step!

The frog princess on a water lily leaf

The frog princess is performed a little differently. In the fairy tale, the character was sitting on a leaf of a water lily. So you can start with it. We draw a fairly large oval, which bifurcates on one side and consists, as it were, of 2 parts. You can draw a dividing line in the middle. Our princess frog will sit in the middle. Its height, together with the crown, is about 2 times larger than the water lily leaf. Therefore, to make it easier to draw, you can outline these lines with a pencil. The resulting height of the character must be "divided" again. The head of the frog is 1.5 times smaller than the body. We bet on right place horizontal line mark.

Let's move on to drawing the head. It can be done with arcs. To do this, start holding one of them from the middle of the head up and to the right. Then it starts to “go down” and rises again. It looks like 2 mounds are formed. Then the arc again goes down to the middle. Everything should look symmetrical. We connect the resulting part of the head in a semicircle. It runs at the very bottom of the base of the head. It turned out to be a muzzle. Under the upper "mounds" draw oval eyes. There must be distance between them. Draw a pupil inside the eyes. You can perform it in any way, given the direction of the gaze of our frog princess. With the help of arcs, draw the mouth as in the previous case.

Let's move on to the body. It should be slightly lower than the bottom mark. Draw it with 4 arcs. First we perform large ones, and then 2 small ones between them. We connect large and small arcs with the help of a “palm”, the lower part of which coincides with the mark line. It consists of 4 "fingers".

On the side we draw other paws. To do this, swipe right and left for middle part torso arched arches. From the lower points we draw flippers. To do this, we carry out 2 parallel lines at an angle and connect them with segments forming a zigzag edge. We got fins. At the top of each membrane, we perform a small circle. Just above the beginning of the first paws, we draw 2 lines diagonally.

At the end, we draw a crown on the head of the frog princess, and put an arrow in her mouth. Sometimes in fairy tales, a fairy-tale glow surrounded the character. It can be drawn at will.

Learning to Draw a Traveling Frog

The traveler frog is a little more difficult to draw, as you need to try to convey movement and change the angle. If you remember, in a fairy tale and a cartoon, she tried to travel with 2 ducks on a branch.

We start the sketch by drawing the torso. It is an oval sloping down from left to right. We make the upper part of the oval a little pointed - the head will be located there. In the lower part of the body we form paws. To do this, we again draw ovals that “look” in different directions. They should cross the body.

We draw the upper paws like those of little men, bending in the elbow area - they will hold on to a twig. We finish them with a "palm". It is somewhat reminiscent of a crown. In total, at the front paw of the frog, we draw 3 “fingers”, which we bend down. The same, only without a fold, we perform at the base of the rear ovals-paws. We also draw 2 arcs in them, which will help give them movement.

We make the body more curvy. Between it and the head we draw a smooth transition-deflection. We also sharpen the muzzle. At the end, draw an eye in the form of a circle and a stick between 2 paws. We complete the sketch by erasing all unnecessary lines.
