During the classes

  1. teacher's word

Today in the lesson we will remember what a parable is. Let's get acquainted with the texts of some parables and try to see how the world in which we live looks like, if we look at it through a parable. Guys, think about how negative moral qualities prevail in our world?

Each of us at least once in his life asked himself questions: did I do the right thing in this or that situation? What should have been done in order not to regret what they did later? Parables will help us answer these questions.

Parables have always played important role in the history of mankind, and to this day they remain for us beautiful and effective tool development, learning and communication. Parables combine wisdom and simplicity, teach us to think, find solutions to problems, develop thinking, intuition and imagination. Some of them bring inspiration, others make you laugh, others make you think. The beauty of the parable is that it doesn't divide the human mind into question and answer, it just gives people a hint of how things should be. Unlike a fable, a parable does not contain direct instruction or morality. It enables people to independently understand and interpret the meaning contained in it. Therefore, Christ usually ended his parables with the exclamation: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

Think and try to answer the question: what is a parable? (children's answers)

There are several definitions of "parable", let's focus on one of them and write it down in a notebook. A parable is an allegory, a figurative story, often used in the Bible to present doctrinal truths.

II. Working with reproductionRembrandt's "The Return of the Prodigal Son"

And now pay attention to the reproduction of Rembrandt's painting "The Return of the Prodigal Son", which captures the moment of the meeting between father and son.

How does the artist depict father and son?

(A pre-prepared student describes the picture:

The shame-stricken son fell on his knees before his father. His clothes are torn, his legs are wounded. His shaved head looks small and pitiful. As if seeking refuge, he hides his face in the folds of his father's clothes. The old father bowed to his son. Putting his hands on his shoulders, he presses him to himself, strokes and feels - his father is half-blind, and now touch, more than sight, convinces him that in front of him is a truly long-awaited, mourned son. The tender, almost blessing touch of these feeble hands makes the son close his eyes in bliss. Father and son have not yet spoken to each other, but they will no longer need words to reconcile. The joy of these two is miraculous. Her reflection illuminates the face of an old man standing on the right, other people are drawn to the light born by her. Various feelings are read on their faces - tenderness, emotion, curiosity).

The picture was painted according to the plot of the parable of the prodigal son. Let's remember what this story is about...

III. Brief retelling of the parable "The Prodigal Son"

(The gospel parable of the prodigal son tells how a frivolous young man, having taken his share of his father's property, left native home in search of entertainment. Ruined, abandoned by his unfaithful friends, having spent a life full of ordeals and shame, he finally decides to return to Father's house. Here he finds forgiveness, love, food and rest).

IV. Comments on words and expressions incomprehensible to children

What do you understand by the term "prodigal son"? (The prodigal son is not just a person who has lost his family, faith, traditions, homeland. The prodigal son is a person. Lost on the path of life).

The heroes of the parable are placed in a situation of choice. What choice do they make?

(Choose your path younger son who wants to escape from parental care, but does not know how to build life in his own way. In difficult circumstances, he decides to return to his father and obey him. The father also chooses: he could hold a grudge against his son, he could turn away from his son, he could at least reproach him. But the father forgives the son.

V. Conversation on questions

Why did the father forgive the youngest son?

(The father forgave the youngest son because he repented and admitted his mistakes. The father thought that his son could die, that he had become the ultimate sinner. And a sinful person is like a dead person. But the son repented, that is, as if he came to life.)

What does this parable teach? Should a person forgive?

VI. An expressive reading of B. Pasternak's poem "Learn to forgive."

Now it would be appropriate to recall B. Pasternak's poem "Learn to forgive."

(Student reads)

Learn to forgive, pray for those who offend,
Evil conquer with a ray of good,
Go without hesitation to the camp of the forgiving,
While the Golgotha Star burns.

Learn to forgive when the soul is offended
And the heart, like a cup of bitter tears,
And it seems that kindness is all burned out,
Remember how Christ forgave!

Learn to forgive, forgive not only with a word,
But with all your soul, with all your essence.
Forgiveness is born of love
In the struggle of prayer nights.

Learn to forgive, in forgiveness the joy is hidden,
Generosity heals like a balm
The blood on the cross was shed for all,
Learn to forgive so that you yourself can be forgiven.

Notebook entry:

Faith and obedience are dear, but repentance and forgiveness are even more precious. Every person should be able to forgive and have hope for forgiveness.

VII. Quote work

And now turn your attention to the statement of one of the presidents of America, Roosevelt.

Recording on the slide: “We have been given much, and much is expected of us. We have obligations to other people and to ourselves; and we have no right to neglect any of these duties.” T. Roosevelt.

What do you think we will discuss in the next part of the lesson? (Discussing the sense of duty).

VIII. Teacher's word on duty

Imagine for a moment what could happen if people suddenly began to do only what they are interested in? For example, a surgeon would refuse to perform an operation, because at that time his favorite movie was shown on TV. Or the dispatcher at the airport would like to read a book or go for a walk during his duty. And the pilot, instead of the indicated route, would have gone to Mexico, since he had long dreamed of visiting there.

There are words "want" and "need". “Need” is our idea of duty.

Define the term debt. (Duty is an obligation to someone or something).

IX. Commented reading

1. Expressive reading of the Arabic parable "Debt".

Before you is an Arabic parable "Duty". (The parable is read by the student).

Arabic parable "Duty".

One carpenter, no matter how much he earned, was content with little and made few expenses. A neighbor once asked him:

You earn a lot, but where do you put your wealth? You don't see anything special.

I pay off my debts with one part of my earnings, and I lend the other part at interest, - the master answered.

It can't be that you have debts, and I haven't heard that you gave someone a loan, - objected the neighbor.

If I give money to my parents, I consider that I am paying off my debts, and I consider that I am lending money at interest on the money that I spend on the education and maintenance of my children. When the children grow up, and my wife and I grow old, will they not return our debt? the master said.

2. Parable talk

Do you agree that children owe their parents a debt? (children's answers)

If a person does not take care of his parents, does this have any effect on his own children? (children's answers)

What did the parable of debt teach you?

From our parents we received the greatest and priceless gift - life. They nurtured and raised us, sparing neither strength nor love. And now that they are old and sick, it is our duty to cure and bring them out.

Introductory conversation.

Before I name the topic of today's lesson, I will ask you to mentally answer a few of my questions. I ask you to be honest with yourself, because no one will hear the answers.

Have you ever slammed the door loudly and left the house, leaving behind the boring lectures of your parents, their unnecessary, empty moralizing?

Perhaps, rustling under the feet of autumn foliage, you walked along the cold streets, holding a grudge against the whole adult world in your soul? You were in a hurry not to go home, but to where absolute freedom awaits you, and there are no obligations.

Has it ever happened that “lost” in yourself, in your thoughts, desires, hopes, mistakes, you could not find a way out of difficult life problems, and, bending under their weight, at least mentally asked for the help of those whom you left behind, repenting for your carelessness?

If you answered yes to at least one of these questions, then the topic of today's lesson is most relevant to you.

Teacher: Right. Recall an episode from your life when a friend or one of your relatives forgave you an offense. What feeling did you experience then? What was your reaction?

Epigraph: Forgiveness brings hope to life. (Hans - Joachim Haan)

The easier we forgive, the easier we live. (J. Kennedy Schultz).

Students: About forgiveness.

Today we will get acquainted with the parable. It's called "The Parable of the Prodigal Son". How do you understand the word "prodigal"?

Students: Wandering. One who wanders around without a purpose. Who does not know why and where he is going.

SLIDE #3

Prodigal - erring, making a mistake, falling into error. This means that the prodigal son is a young man who has strayed from the true path. About him and will be discussed in this parable.

A parable is a small moralizing story like a fable, but without morality and direct teaching. Morality must be drawn from it by everyone. This genre arose in the East, in antiquity, where they liked to speak in allegories. (WRITING IN A NOTEBOOK) 3 min

For several lessons we go through biblical mythology. Let's remember the birth of Jesus.

So, back to the Bible. When Jesus grew up, he began to preach his doctrine to people. He chose 12 disciples (apostles) for himself and began to walk with them from city to city. Jesus told people parables. He told them in such a way that everyone could understand them. The word “son” sounds in the title of our parable, therefore, the idea of kinship with which every person on earth is connected is important in the parable: after all, we are all someone’s children ... Let’s think about what role parents play in our life? What are they trying to teach children? Why are relationships between parents and children often difficult?

Teacher: Remind me what the commandment says about parents?

Students: Honor your father and mother and you will live long. 1 min

Historical reference.

SLIDE #4

Teacher: Right. Now, in order to better understand the meaning of the parable, I want to give you some information about the family structure of the Israelites. In the Jewish family, parents have always been honored, so children had the right to live the way they wanted, only if they left their family (married) or when their parents died. Leaving home without the knowledge of parents was considered a great curse of disobedience, such a young man was considered dead to his family. What events led to the feast?

Why did the father react so “unusually” to the return of his son?

What did the son do to get his father's forgiveness and blessing?

How did others perceive the decision of the father to accept the son back into the family?

What did the father experience when the youngest son left with his part of the inheritance?

What did the son think about when he came to his senses?

When and why did the son "come to his senses"?

How did the youngest son behave and what did he deserve for his behavior?

How did the father react to the return of his son and why?

Why did the father forgive the youngest son?

(The father forgave the youngest son because he repented and admitted his mistakes. The father thought that his son could die, that he had become the ultimate sinner. And a sinful person is like a dead person. But the son repented, that is, as if he came to life.)

What does this parable teach? Should a person forgive?

5. Work on the picture -3min

The theme of the prodigal son is widely disclosed not only in the bible, but also in painting, music, and cinema.

SLIDE #5

And now let's look at Rembrandt's painting "The Return of the Prodigal Son". How did the artist depict this moment?

Students:- In the parable, the father threw himself on his son's neck, and in the picture the son kneels before his father.

The paints used by Rembrandt, in my opinion, are a bit dark. They do not so much convey joy as emphasize the solemnity of what is happening.

The face of the father is concentrated and, it seems to me, sad, but in the parable the father is joyful.

Teacher: Tell me, why did the artist see this meeting in this way?

Students:- Maybe because the act of forgiveness is very important in a person's life.

It seems to me that the artist did not quite understand the true meaning of the parable.

Teacher: And what do you think he is?

Students: The true meaning, in my opinion, is that the forgiver experiences joy and the forgiven also experiences joy, because the lost relationship is restored between them.

Teacher:

Love and betrayal, the ability to forgive insults, the victory of good over evil - perhaps this is creation, the creation of happiness and the harmony of life. The parable of the prodigal son has a deep educational value, and this is the function of art.

Interpretation of the parable of the prodigal son

A certain man had two sons:

Under the image of this man is God; two sons are sinners and imaginary righteous and scribes.

The youngest of them:

Younger, more frivolous, not yet tempted by the hard experiences of life.

Give me:

The younger son seems to have already reached the age of majority, according to which he could ask his father for a division of the estate with his brother.

The next part of the estate for me:

According to the Law of Moses (Deut 21:17), the younger son received half of what the eldest received.

Divided their estate:

The father, even before his death, not because he was obliged to do so by law, but because he could and wanted to do so.

Having collected everything, I went:

It is hard for him to show paternal guardianship; his father could not give him the freedom to live as he liked, and therefore he went to a far side so that his father's eye could not watch him, and he could live according to his will. So a person endowed with spiritual and bodily gifts from God, having felt an attraction to sin, begins to be weary of the divine law given to him as a guide for life and, having rejected the yoke of the law, indulges in lawlessness, lives according to his own will, listens to no one and nothing, squanders in the spiritual and bodily debauchery of the gifts that God has endowed him with.

far side:

There is an image of the sinner's distant estrangement from God, his deep moral fall.

A great famine has come:

The disaster was joined by a new external disaster, which must have had a strong effect on the young libertine. So often God sends external calamities on the sinner in order to bring him to reason more, and these calamities are for him both punishment and at the same time God's call to repentance.

Herding pigs:

The most humiliating occupation for a true Jew. The Jewish law forbade the Jews to eat pork, the pig was a disgusting animal for them. So often a sinner, when he becomes attached to some worldly object in order to drown out his sinful consciousness, humiliates himself even more and reaches the most miserable state.

Fill your belly with horns:

These are the fruits of a single tree growing in Syria and some parts of Asia Minor, which were fed to pigs and which, incidentally, were sometimes eaten by the poor (like our oak acorns).

But no one gave him:

And he could not get this meager food, because of the severe famine in that country. So disastrous was his position, and so disastrous are the consequences of a sinful life. And it is good for the sinner if in distress he hears the merciful voice of the Heavenly Father, calling him to repentance, and decides to give up this sinful life, like a dissolute son in the flow.

Coming to my senses:

The turn of speech is very expressive. Such a turnover is used when, after a serious illness, accompanied by loss of consciousness, a person comes to his senses when consciousness returns to him. Isn’t it just as sick, to the point of losing consciousness, a sinner, when he is so embraced by sin that he is not conscious of the requirements of God’s will, does not want to know either the natural law or the revealed law, forgets God, and conscience, and honor. The grave consequences of sin, combined with external disasters, finally bring him to himself; he seems to wake up and begin to cognize objects in their true form; painful dreams dissolve, sober consciousness returns.

I will get up and go to my father:

The determination of the sinner to leave sin and repent. Blessed be God, who calls the sinner back to him! Blessed is the moment when this ray of hope for God's mercy and determination to repent shines in the dark soul of a sinner!

I have sinned against heaven and before you:

Heaven in a sense special place the presence of God and the seat of holy angels and righteous people; before you - an offended and indignant loving and merciful father. This is also an expression of the sinner's sincere repentance, recognizing that with his sin he offended the holy God and all the saints surrounding His throne.

Not worthy to be called a son:

The zeal of deep humility and lack of dignity, which accompanies the true repentance of the sinner.

Among your mercenaries:

An expression of deep love for the home and shelter of the father, according to which the dissolute son desires, even on the most difficult conditions, to be accepted into his father's house.

When he was still far away:

All further features are exposed for the clearest image. great love Heavenly Father to the repentant sinner, who returns to the sinful soul what it has lost through sin, and adorns it with new gifts of grace, which all the holy inhabitants of heaven rejoice at. The father, an old man, seeing from afar the returning son, runs towards him, hugs him, kisses him, and, accepting repentance, orders to put on shoes and dress him, instead of the former in rags, in the best clothes and decorate him, and then everyone began to have fun at the meal. All these are human-shaped features of how, out of love for a repentant sinner, the Lord mercifully accepts his repentance and rewards him with new, instead of the lost, spiritual blessings and gifts.

Was dead and revived:

A sinner alienated from life in God is the same as a dead one, since the life of the human spirit is possible only in union with its source, God; but in alienation from Him there is no life (1 Tim 5:6; Rom 6:13; Mt 8:22); why the conversion of a sinner to life in God is presented as his resurrection from the dead (Rom 6:13; Eph 2:1; Rev 3:1)

The eldest son:

This eldest son is depicted in remarkable features in comparison with the character traits of his father and his younger brother. He returns from work and does not want to enter his house, where they are having fun on the occasion of the return of his brother, despite the call of his father; he reproaches his father for his dislike for him, exposes his labors, speaks insensitively coldly about his brother, reproaches his father for doing this in the present case. Yes, it is they who, in appearance, are exact and strict executors of the law, cold, heartless in relation to erring brothers, boasting of the fulfillment of the will of God, not wanting to have communion with tax collectors and sinners, proud, self-important righteous people — they are the scribes and Pharisees, and lawyers, this is their image and those like them, as opposed to the image of the penitent sinner and the loving Father-God.

Was on the field

He worked, in contrast to his younger brother, who did not want to live and work in his father's house, but went to a far side to debauch. Under the way of working in the field is meant the fulfillment by the scribes and Pharisees of the requirements of the law; the quality and nature of the work is not mentioned here.

I heard singing and jubilation:

Singing and jubilation is a symbol of fun and joy in general.

He got angry and did not want to enter:

So the imaginary exact executors of the law, the Pharisees, did not want to have fellowship with publicans and hazel-growers and were angry with the Lord that He did not follow them in this.

And his father went out and called him:

With a word of love, his father turned to him, even went out to him himself. So God, with a loving word of revelation, especially through the Lord Jesus Christ, addressed these proud and cold doers of the law, but did not find and did not find compassion and love in their hearts.

Behold, I have served you for so many years:

Instead of sympathy and love for his brother and father, the eldest son begins to recite instructions to his father, exposes his merits, complains of resentment, and vilifies his brother. In addressing his father, he does not break out of the gentle loving - father (father); he doesn't want to call his brother brother,

And this son is yours:

And a sharp line indicates his behavior; with special insistence he points to his service and to the fact that he never violated the orders of his father. Such were the proud, arrogant, arrogant and cold executors of the outward demands of the law, the Pharisees and scribes. It is a remarkable feature that all the desire of this eldest son was concentrated on the goat, and he enviously reproaches his father for the fattened calf, slaughtered on the occasion of the return of his missing brother. In this he sees evidence of his father's dislike for him...

He said to him:

Although self-justification, this exposition of one's own merits, this pride and arrogance before the father, this arrogant and cold contempt for the brother themselves utter condemnation, but the Lord, as it were, further strengthens this condemnation by the loving address of the father to this eldest son. Once again, with a loving address - my son - the father wants to soften the hardness of his son and arouse in him more philanthropic and tender feelings.

You are always with me, and all mine is yours:

Not all the property was wasted by your brother, and not yours - yours remained with you, but his was given to him. In relation to the Pharisees and scribes, this showed that they can always have access to God; they have the law in their hands, they have revelation, they know the will of God, they can acquire spiritual gifts and blessings, but ... they cannot deserve the favor of the heavenly father in such a perverted and cruel spiritual and moral mood. —The God of love and mercy cannot please those who should rejoice and rejoice at the conversion of a sinner, as the angels in heaven rejoice (v. 6:10), but they turn away and do not want to have fellowship with them. The parable ends with the word of the father, and the Lord, as it were, asks the scribes and Pharisees who condemned Him (v. 1): well, do you still want to grumble at Me because I treat tax collectors and sinners and turn away from them, or do you want to accept participation in the joy of heaven - God and Angels and the righteous about the conversion of a repentant sinner.

On the ground. In his parables, he reveals to us the secrets of the universe and teaches us the main thing - gaining spiritual wealth and faith in God. The "Parable of the Prodigal Son" depicts the inexpressible mercy of the Lord to all sinful people who sincerely and deeply repented of their sins and turned to him for help and protection. In the Orthodox church calendar the Week of the Prodigal Son is specially marked, which is one of the four preparatory periods for Great Lent.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son. Text

The father had two sons. One day, the youngest son asked him for part of the estate that belonged to him. The father did not resist and gave everything that was due to him. A few days later, the youngest son, taking his part of the inheritance, left for distant lands. Not caring at all tomorrow, he began to live dissolutely and, as the people say, on a "big foot". Acting in such a foolish way, he very quickly squandered all his wealth, and when famine came to the city, he became in great need of food.

In order to somehow live, he got a job with one of local residents and began to feed his pigs. This guy was happy to eat horns meant for pigs, but no one allowed him to. Completely exhausted by hunger and poverty, he suddenly remembered his father and that all his mercenaries eat bread, but native son will soon die of hunger.

Meeting with father

Further, the "Parable of the Prodigal Son" says that when the son saw his father, he immediately fell on his neck and began to kiss him. And then he prayed that he was not worthy to be called his son and that he was a sinner before him and Heaven. And then he asked to be hired. The father took pity on his son, ordered to bring him the best clothes, shoes and put a ring on him. Then he decided to slaughter the calf and have fun, as he was very glad that his son had not disappeared, but was found alive and well.

eldest son

At the same time, the eldest son was returning from field work. When he approached the house, he heard jubilation, singing, and was very surprised by this. He became very angry when he learned the reason for these festivities. When his father called him to the table, the eldest son expressed his resentment to him, because for so many years of faithful service, he had never slaughtered even a kid for him to have fun with his friends. And here the father did not spare the fattened calf for the one who squandered all his inheritance with harlots and returned with nothing. The father reassured him and said: "You are always by my side, and everything that is mine is yours, and now we all need to rejoice that your younger brother was found alive and unharmed."

The Parable of the Prodigal Son: Interpretation

This parable talks about sin, repentance, and how God's attitude towards man can be. All the troubles of the youngest son began with the fact that he immediately demanded what was rightfully his. All this equates to how people view the gifts of God from a practical point of view. That is, give me now everything that I want, but from what you can get in the future, I refuse. This is the greatest sin of an insane person who pays for quick and momentary pleasure by refusing great future blessings, about which at first he does not care at all.

The question arises as to why the young man wanted to receive his share. And all because he was a burden to guardianship of his father, and he wanted freedom. This is exactly what most of today's young people are doing. Due to all sorts of means of influence, they decided that if they did not break the bonds of God now, then they would not be bound hand and foot with the bonds of alluring and voluptuous forbidden desires and lusts. This is how apostasy from God happens. People begin to consider themselves gods and think that they understand well where is good and where is evil. This is what the Parable of the Prodigal Son warns about. The point is that people only want to do what pleases them, and do not want to live according to God's commandments at all.

The delusion of the views of the youngest son

The well-known gospel "Parable of the Prodigal Son" tells how the youngest son wants to move away from his father's gaze and supervision, he does not like this, because he limits him in behavior and spending. The young guy is proud of himself, his arrogance knows no bounds. He thinks he knows how to manage things and hopes to become more outstanding personality than he. All this suggests that human pride, especially in youth, is a powerful destructive force.

However, here the meekness and kindness of the father to his youngest son surprises and delights. He immediately gave what was due to his son. Unlike younger brother older was more reasonable person, he, on the contrary, wished that his father retained part of his power. For this, the eldest son hears very wise words from his father that everything he owns will eventually become his.

Thus, having received his inheritance, the youngest son goes far from his home, and then squanders it and becomes a beggar. That's exactly what spiritual state persecutes a man who has fallen away from God. The one who voluntarily goes to sin is wasting the gifts of God - his mind and spiritual strength, which should serve people and God. Thus, the soul passes into the power of the devil, becomes a hostage to the world and the flesh, begins to live dissolutely and squanders its wealth.

Payback for sin

The younger son was sent by the evil master to graze not even sheep, but champing pigs. Thus, it is in the power of the devil to send his slave to satisfy the lusts of the fallen nature. The impoverished younger son was glad to eat those horns that the pigs ate, but this food was not for man. Sin is a state of eternal gluttony, in which it is impossible to get relief from anything in the world. You should not appeal to the world, it has only that which can poison the soul, but not that which nourishes it.

The "parable of the prodigal son" also speaks of the fact that the Lord generously comforts those who eventually come to deep repentance and awareness of their sinful life. The Lord has long-suffering and mercy for every person, He is indulgent to sins, because He sees further and deeper. Man must respond to Him only with humble gratitude and love.

The "parable of the prodigal son" will be especially useful for children, since they are just beginning to know the world in all its manifestations and must be ready for any temptations so as not to fall into dependence on sin and always live in peace with God.
