26.04.2019

Eurovision is an annual music song contest held among performers from countries that are members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Therefore, among the participants of the competition, you can see performers from Israel and other countries outside Europe. From each participating country, one participant is sent to Eurovision, who performs one song. The winner of the competition is determined by voting of viewers and a jury from each participating country.

The Eurovision Song Contest was first held in 1956. There was a competition as a result of the transformation Italian festival Sanremo. Marcel Beson, who was very fond of this project, saw in the competition an opportunity to unite nations in postwar period. The Sanremo Festival still exists today. And Eurovision today is one of the most anticipated and popular events in musical life Europe. More than 100 million viewers around the world watch this competition every year.

Every year, before the competition, a preliminary selection procedure takes place, which helps to determine the list of participating countries. Performers from the EBU Big Four countries - , - enter the competition automatically.

It can be said that the most lucky country at Eurovision is Great Britain. Of course, she became the winner more often (7 times against 5 victories of Britain), but the British took second place 15 times, France and Luxembourg, like England, won 5 times, but they took second place no more than three times.

The nationality of the performers at Eurovision does not matter. This is confirmed by the participation of Katrina Leskanish in the competition. She was born in America and performed with the Waves from Cambridge. Another foreigner representing Great Britain in the competition was Ozzy Gina J., while Greek Nana Mouskouri and Belgian Lara Fabian competed for Luxembourg in 1963 and 1988 respectively. By the way, the victory in 1988 went to Switzerland, which was represented by Canadian singer Celine Dion. It was the victory in the competition that turned the unknown singer into a real star.

In 1986, 13-year-old Belgian Sandra Kim won the contest with the song "J'aime la vie". Now the rules of Eurovision set an age limit for performers - you can take part in the contest from 16 years old.

There are special strict rules for the final of the competition. For example, there can be no amplifiers on the stage, the drummer must play on the provided drum kit. The performer can use instrumental backing tracks. Any song that is longer than 3 minutes may be disqualified, everyone remembers that “brevity is the sister of talent”.

The first Eurovision Song Contest took place in Lugano (Switzerland). 7 countries participated in the contest with 2 performers/songs per country. The victory was won by Lis Assia from Switzerland with the song "Refrain". Lis outperformed the Belgian song "The Drowned Men Of The River Seine".

The winner was Corrie Brocken from the Netherlands, who performed the song "Net Als Toen". It was in 1957 that the rule was adopted that the duration of a song should be no more than three minutes.

The venue for the competition was the city of Hilversum (). Third place went to the Italian singer Domenico Modugno, who performed the song "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu". Later this song was recorded under the name "Volare" and became a real hit. The victory went to Andre Clave from France with the song "Dors Mon Amour". The UK did not participate in this competition.

Cannes, France. The UK returned to the Eurovision Song Contest and came in second with "Sing Little Birdie", beating the French song "Oui, Oui, Oui, Oui" by just one point. The winner was Holland with the song "Een Beetje". Starting this year, professional composers are prohibited from serving on the jury.

The Netherlands refuse to host the Eurovision Song Contest for the second time and the Eurovision Song Contest is held in the UK for the first time. Frenchwoman Jacqueline Boyer with the composition "Tom Pillibi" took first place, the second went to the British with their song "Looking High, High, High", performed by Brian Jones. This year, the number of countries participating has grown to 13 with Norway joining the competition and Luxembourg returning. 1960 was also the first year that the final of the competition was broadcast live. Finland took this step.

The venue for the competition was determined by drawing lots between the winning countries in 1969. As a result, the competition was held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This year, the rules were amended, which excluded the possibility of winning several participants at the same time. In the event that several performers receive the same number of points, they must re-perform the song and the jury, except for representatives of the countries claiming first place, again determined the winner. If in this case there is a draw, both countries will receive the Grand Prix. In 1970, due to disagreement with the voting system, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and Finland refused to take part in the competition. background

Before talking about what awaits us in the coming 2019, it is worth remembering what the Eurovision Song Contest was in 2018.

Location

The 63rd competition, which brings together the best performers from different countries peace, was held in Lisbon. This right for Portugal was won by Salvador Sobral with the song "Amar pelos dois».

The grand show took place at the Altis Arena stadium (Lisbon), with a capacity of 20,000 spectators. Hosted the competition:

  • Katarina Furtado;
  • Daniela Rua;
  • Silvia Alberto;
  • Philomena Kautela.

Innovations in the rules

After the scandal in 2017 that erupted around the participant from the Russian Federation, Yulia Samoilova, who was banned from entering the territory of Ukraine, which hosted the song contest, an amendment was made to the rules, stating that participating countries cannot delegate to the contest persons who are denied entry into the territory of the country, the host of the event.

A fair and independent opinion is required from the national juries that determine the representative of the country. The fate of the song and the artist cannot be decided by people who have anything to do with the authorship of the song or the participant himself.

Participants and winners

In 2018, 43 performers took part in the competition:

  • 19 in the 1st round;
  • 18 in the 2nd round;
  • 6 went directly to the grand final (Germany, Italy, France, UK, Spain, and Portugal).

Although bookmakers predicted the victory of the representatives of Ireland, Cyprus, Israel, Germany or France, the audience voting distributed the places as follows:

Thus, Israel received the right to host the 64th international Eurovision Song Contest in 2019. It is worth noting that the event will be held here for the third time. Previously, representatives of Israel took first place in 1979 and 1999.

Competition 2019

So, it is known for sure that Israel will host Eurovision in 2019, but there is no final decision on where exactly the main gala concert and semi-final performances of the participants will take place.

Location

It has already been decided where the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 will be held and the beautiful old city of Tel Aviv has been chosen this time as the song capital of the world.

It is worth noting that other, no less beautiful cities also claimed the right to become the main stage of the 64th competition:

It would seem that there are much more capacious arenas than the Tel Aviv stadium. But, as it turned out, not everything is perfect with the largest stadiums - Teddy, Sammi Ofer and Toto Turner. They do not have a temporary or permanent cover (roof), which is a mandatory requirement for the venue.

Members

Since there is still a lot of time before the next contest, it is too early to talk about who exactly will go to Eurovision 2019 from the participating countries. Denmark, Norway, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Poland, Norway, Ukraine, Serbia have officially shown their interest. San Marino, Sweden, Finland and Estonia. Also in the final will be represented by countries with benefits. In 2019, these are:

  • Israel (as host);
  • the Big Five countries: France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK.

Since the host country will be Israel, refusals for political reasons are not ruled out. There is talk of a possible boycott of the competition in Ireland and Morocco.

Artist from Russia

Having missed the 2017 contest and not reaching the final in 2018, Russia has approached the selection of a candidate for the right to represent the interests of the country in the Eurovision 2019 contest with particular care. The open national selection was not announced this year. The performer, who will receive the right to represent the country on the international stage, was appointed after assessing the chances of winning all possible contenders. This decision was made in connection with the events of the last 2 years. The country needs not just participation - the country needs victory! And this means that it is necessary to find an artist whose hit will hit the target with mathematical accuracy.

Sergey Lazarev will represent Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.

Sergey Lazarev

Two years ago, Lazarev was already at Eurovision, but did not bring the desired victory to the country. Many assumed that he would like to repeat the path of Bilan and take revenge by going to Israel in 2019. The 35-year-old singer has everything to achieve his goal: a great voice, well-produced vocals, hits that are known and loved in many countries, as well as charisma that ensures attention from the audience who will see his performance at Eurovision for the first time.

However, the performer himself denies the desire to "take revenge." In an interview with the Russia-1 TV channel, Lazarev shared the doubts that tormented him at the decision-making stage and promised his fans that his creative team, led by Philip Kirkorov, would do their best to deserve such a desired victory.

While the singer keeps the intrigue and does not reveal the most breaking news- what will be the song with which he will perform at the international song contest in Tel Aviv. In anticipation of news, see one of the newest works of Lazarev "Whisper":

Among the possible contenders also named:

  • Manizhu;
  • Philip Kirkorov;
  • Yegor Creed;
  • Aleksandar Panayotov;
  • Elena Temnikova;
  • Olga Buzova.

We invite you to take a closer look at the work of these artists.

Manizha

To the question “Who will go to Eurovision from Russia in 2019”, the participant of the 63rd contest Yulia Samoilova named the famous young performer Manizha. Bright, unusual and really “different” – this is how Samoilova saw the next Eurovision participant.

We offer you to watch an interview in which Manizhe Khamrayeva talks about herself and her work.

Alexander Panayotov

Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest has been a performer's dream for many years, as 34-year-old Panayotov himself admitted. In past seasons, he took part in the qualifying rounds, but was never able to collect the required number of audience votes.

The singer himself has not openly stated his desire to go to Tel Aviv and laughs it off when asked questions about the upcoming competition. See one of Alexander's latest works - a video for the song "Names":

At the same time, connoisseurs of the European song contest initially stated that Panayotov's victory was unlikely, since with excellent professional vocals he still lacks some charisma and popularity outside of Russia.

Philip Kirkorov

Why not? Being a successful producer, Kirkorov, and being at the peak of his popularity, he could very well take the place that Lazarev got. At 51, the pop king is full of energy, has excellent vocal abilities, the necessary charisma and popularity outside of Russia.

Kirkorov's candidacy was even once voiced in the State Duma, as optimal choice 2019. But, the performer himself nevertheless decided to give way to Sergey, while leading his creative team.

Watch the video for Philip Kirkorov's song "Mood Color Blue":

Egor Creed

The young 24-year-old performer is very popular not only in Russia, but also abroad. His tracks are loved by the youth of Moldova, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia and Ukraine, as well as many other countries, which, of course, could give Creed a good chance to win.

See the joint work of Kirkorov and Creed "The color of the mood is black":

Nevertheless, the experts were not mistaken in the opinion that the jury, by whose decision this year the participant from Russia was appointed, did not vote for Yegor Creed.

Lena Temnikova

While still working as part of the Silver group, Temnikova gained precious experience in participating in the Eurovision song contest. Then, 12 years ago, the girls took the 3rd place. Judging by the activation in in social networks vocalist before the next qualifying round, she would very much like to repeat the success, but already as a solo artist. But the judges do not yet see in it sufficient potential that can provide the country with a prize.

See also Temnikova's video for the song "Not Fashionable":

Olga Buzova

Olga Buzova, known not only as a singer, but also as the host of the scandalous show Dom-2, also announced her desire to take part in the 2019 contest. As if in confirmation of her promise not only to reach the final, but also to bring victory, Buzova released new clip for the song "Champion".

In just a few months, we will be able to enjoy beautiful compositions and take part in the voting that will determine who will represent Russia at the next Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Israel in 2019.

Only 4 months separate viewers from the start of the annual Eurovision Song Contest 2018. After the victory of the Portuguese participant last year, this year's contestants will be hosted by the city of Lisbon. The organizers of the competition have already published a list of 42 participants, including Russian Federation. In this regard, the inhabitants of our country are interested in who will represent Russia at Eurovision this year.

The final performance of the participants, which will determine the best performer of 2018 and the country that will host the next contest, will take place on May 12!

The Grand Finals are:

  • 10 winners of the 1st semi-final;
  • 10 winners in the 2nd semi-final;
  • 6 participants qualifying for the Grand Final without going through the Semi-Finals: France, Spain, Great Britain, Germany, Italy and Poltugalia (as host country).

It is worth noting that over the past 14 years (since 2004), Russia will not be represented in the Eurovision final for the first time. Unfortunately, the song I Won't Break performed by Yulia Samoilova could not get the required number of votes.

Recall that according to the forecasts of bookmakers, Eleni Foureira (Cyprus) has the best chances of winning with a beautiful composition of Fuego. Behind him in the top five are Netta Barzilai (Israel), Ryan O'Shaughnessy (Ireland), as well as representatives of France and Germany.

The final battle of Eurovision 2018, as previously planned, took place in Lisbon on May 12, giving the audience 26 magnificent performances of soloists and musical groups. According to the results of the audience voting, the three best performers were determined:

  • 1 placeNetta Barzilai(Israel) with the song "Toy" - 529 points;
  • 2nd placeEleni Foureyr and (Cyprus) with the song "Fuego" - 436 points;
  • 3rd placeCesar Sempson(Austria) with the song "Nobody But You" - 342 points.

Netta Barzilai

Netta's success is not an accident, but the result of many years of work, because she took her first steps in singing as a child. Dreaming of a career as a singer, the girl graduated with honors from high school with musical bias and the prestigious Rimon School (Faculty of Electronic Instruments).

Whole creative way girls associated with music. On the way to world fame she managed to prove herself as an excellent teacher and soloist of the military ensemble of the Israeli Navy, as well as head the Bar Giora club. Since 2016, Netta has been singing in her own group "Experiment" and has successfully toured Israel.

The track "Toy" blew up the Internet even before the start of Eurovision, gaining more than 18 million views, which once again confirms that young people are waiting for new formats, energetic musical rhythms and bright, charismatic performers.

We offer you to watch the enchanting show that Netta presented to the guests and viewers:

Performances of competitors

Eleni Foureira presented the composition Fuego in the final, impressing everyone with a magnificent brilliant costume, incendiary dances and a spectacular fire show.

Cesar Sampson I chose the right to enter the top three with the song Nobody But You, making the main bet on the voice. The original highlight of the performance was the lighting effects that created bright visualizations around the platform raised above the stage.

Eurovision 2019

The next song contest will be held in Israel. Most likely, Jerusalem will become the song capital of 2019, which will once again emphasize the status of the city, which is the cause of the protracted Middle East conflict.

What will Eurovision 2019 be like and how the organizers plan to surprise the guests of the 64th song contest, we still have to find out, because not so long ago the last chords on the Lisbon stage resounded.

Favorites and winner of Eurovision 2017

Silent sounds last performance, all the votes of the viewers who took an active part in choosing the most better composition 2017 and we are happy to announce the top three:

1 place- Salvador Sobral (Portugal) with the song "Amar pelos dois"

2nd place- Christian Kostov (Bulgaria) with the song "Beautiful Mess"

3rd place— Sunstroke Progect (Moldova) with the song Hey Mamma

Now the whole world is discussing how fair the victory of the participant from Portugal was, because many bookmakers bet on other contestants. The unequivocal favorite of the competition in 2017 was considered italian singer Francesco Gabbiani, who showed his talents at the Sanremo festival.

In San Remo, the young man confidently won, and he went to the Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine with a fighting spirit. During all stages of the competition, Gabbiani was confidently in the lead both in the opinion of the bookmakers and in the polls of the audience. His song Occidentali's Karma became a hit in his homeland long before the announcement of the winners. However, in the end, the charismatic singer did not even make it into the top three.

In addition to the Italian, the following performers were among the favorites:

  • singer Ellie Delvaux, performing under the pseudonym Blanche, performed the song "City Lights" (Belgium);
  • Robin Bengtsson, who performed at Eurovision for the second time, and in 2017 presented the song "I can't Go on" (Sweden);
  • Christian Kostov with the song "Beautiful Mess" (Bulgaria);
  • Artsvik Harutyunyan with the song "Fly with me".

The audience actively voted for the Polish performer with an unusual past. The fact is that the singer Kasia Mos was a Playboy model a few years ago. Polish critics were dissatisfied with the choice of the representative of the country for the song contest because of the unremarkable vocal abilities of the girl. However, the audience gave the singer unusual name clear preference. For some time, representatives of Azerbaijan, Great Britain and Romania were among the favorites, but in the end Salvador Sobral won with the song "Amar pelos dois". The artist finished in the audience voting with a score of 382 points, 20 points ahead of the closest competitor, young Christian Kostov.

The lyrical composition Sobral conquered everyone in the semi-finals, but the singer was predicted to take second or third place in the competition. The artist himself suffers from heart disease and needs an urgent transplant. The members of the jury also expressed their indifference to the composition and distributed the points as follows: 382 for Portugal, 278 for Bulgaria, 218 for Sweden. However, in the end, the 3rd place was taken by the representatives of Moldova, who scored 374 points.

Many viewers noted that the event itself was organized on highest level. The artists had complex numbers, with visual and lighting effects, so Kyiv had to modernize the International Exhibition Center according to last word technology.

The competition in 2017 was held according to the standard scheme: the participants of the festival were determined in two semi-finals. They were held on May 9 and 11, and 10 participants advanced from each semi-final. The favorites began to stand out even at the stage of the semi-finals, but the final looked no less exciting. Ukraine, as the host, did not participate in the selection, however, the representative of the country O. Torvald with the song "Time" could not repeat the success of his predecessor Jamala.

By the way, Jamala herself performed at the song contest during the collection and counting of votes. In addition, Ruslana and Andrey Danilko appeared on the stage in the image of Verka Serduchka.

In addition to the host country, 5 founding countries traditionally did not participate in the selection:

  • Spain;
  • Italy;
  • Great Britain;
  • Germany;
  • France.

Eurovision 2018: where and when will it take place

Recently, the Eurovision voting scheme has changed, and now the winner is determined not only through the audience voting, but also with the help of the jury. However, the representative of Portugal became a clear favorite in all respects.

Thus the following Eurovision will be held in Portugal in Lisbon. The semi-finals will be held on May 8 and 10, and the final on May 12.

Having learned where Eurovision will take place in 2018, many fans of the contest were delighted. The fact is that tragic story the struggle for the life of Salvador Sobral captivated everyone even more than his song.

By the way, Portugal has never won the championship in the competition. The last time a performer from this country made it to the final was already in 2010. And the Portuguese reached the highest place in 1999, when their contestant was on the sixth line according to the voting results.

The song contest in 2018 will be held in Lisbon, as announced by RTP on May 15, 2017, but it is not yet known at which venue.

Other cities also claimed the place of Lisbon:

  • Porto withdrew its candidacy on its own, due to lengthy repair work at the proposed concert venue;
  • Guimarães did not meet the competitive requirements due to the lack of an international airport in direct access.
  • Pharaoh also cannot boast of a suitable venue for an international competition.

The costs of hosting Eurovision 2018 are planned to be partially financed with the involvement of sponsors and partners and limited to 30 million euros.

So far, the competition is planned to be held at the Meo Arena, which can accommodate about twenty thousand spectators. This site has been operating since the end of the last century and is the largest indoor stadium in the country, and also ranks third in Europe. Also, a significant plus of Meo Arena is the proximity to it of press rooms and similar buildings and open areas for the convenience of the organizers and guests of the competition.

At home, the composition of Salvador Sobral has long been popular, but the Portuguese hardly expected such an impressive result. Now the young singer will be met in a hot country with all honors.

Russia's participation in Eurovision 2018

After the recent scandal involving the participation of domestic artists in the 2017 song contest, the question of whether Russia will take part in Eurovision 2018 is acute.

In 2017, Yulia Samoilova was supposed to go to the competition, but the girl was banned from entering Ukraine because of her performances in Crimea. This event caused a great resonance both in the domestic and foreign press. However, Ukraine did not agree to make concessions. That is why in 2017, for the first time in many years, Russia did not take part in the song contest.

This was followed by a proposal from the EBU to replace the participant or conduct a video broadcast, which did not satisfy the management of Channel One.

After the refusal to broadcast the competition on television, the question arose of the possibility of Russia's participation in Eurovision 2018. A similar situation occurred in 1998. That year, the participant from Russia did not have the right to participate in the competition, as he took below 15th place, which, according to the regulations of that time, prohibited the presence of representatives of the country for the next year. As a result of the refusal to broadcast in 1998, the artist representing Russia was disqualified in 1999.

The leadership of Channel One, having learned about the politicized decision of the Ukrainian side, warned in advance that Yulia Samoilova would go to Eurovision next year, 2018. Thus, it is the young singer who will represent Russia in the competition, which will be held in May in Portugal. Accordingly, according to the requirements of Eurovision, another song will be written for the singer.

Other options have been considered:

  1. Elena Temnikova, who wanted to represent Russia in 2017.
  2. Alexander Panayotov, who also wanted to represent Russia in 2017.
  3. The winner of the project "Voice" Daria Antonyuk.
  4. Turetsky Soprano Group.
  5. Singer Nyusha has long been credited with participating in Eurovision.
  6. There were rumors in the press that the Leningrad group would go to the next song contest from Russia.
