Nana Kwame Abrokwa (born October 5, 1968 in Accra, Ghana) is a German rapper and DJ who goes by the pseudonym Nana or Darkman / Nana. Nana is not real name, this is one of titles of nobility Ghana. Nana became popular in the second half of the 1990s, his style is described as "Euro-rap", and in his songs he talks about relationships with God, with his family, or on topics such as racism and the Holocaust.
Nana came to Hamburg with his mother and brothers at the age of 10. Started as a DJ in hip-hop clubs in the early 90s. He also co-produced and rapped on some songs by DJ David Fascher ("Here We Go", "Make The Crowd Go Wild") under the alias MC Africa True.
In 1995 he joins as a rapper the Eurodance project Darkness produced by Bülent Aris and Toni Cottura. The song "In My Dreams" becomes a club hit, but Nana does not like the style of Darkness and the group breaks up. However, his pseudonym Darkman originates from this time.
In 1996, Aris and Cottura formed the Black Music label Booya music, with Nana joining as the first artist. The first single "Darkman" entered the Top 10 of the German official single chart from Media Control. The next single, "Lonely", became the most successful Euro-rap song, and stayed at number one for several weeks. Album Nana, released in 1997, is closer to the mainstream, in american style rap. It featured other members of the Booya Family such as Jan van der Toorn and Alex Prince.
The second album, Father, was released in May 1998 and featured rather slow songs with very personal lyrics. The songs "Too Much Heaven" and "War" were also featured on the Love The Bee Gees and Hands on Motown tribute albums.
In late 1999, Nana released the single "I Want To Fly", which flopped due to the declining popularity of euro rap and the growing popularity of hip hop in Germany. However, Nana recorded two more albums with Booya music, which were not released due to legal issues.
In early 2001, Nana released a song on German Du Wirst Sehen, but this caused dissatisfaction with fans from other countries. The single failed and the planned bilingual album Global Playa was canceled at the request of the record company.
After a long break, in the summer of 2004, Nana finally released the album All Doors In Flight No. 7 featuring Jan van der Toorn and Manuell on his own label, Darkman Records. The album was distributed exclusively on the Internet, through Nana's website.

Probably, he would have survived from bread to water, walking with an ever-increased appetite, if not for his parents, who caught the right moment in time and emigrated in some way unknown to the German police to Hannover, where Nana settled in a 10-year-old age.
Nothing special, except for the constant teasing and claims of indigenous burghers at school and on the streets, did not happen to him. So by 1988, when he successfully graduated from one of the Hanoverian schools, after all, his life was going in a fairly peaceful way.
As a child, like any black guy, he became interested in rap. Fortunately, in Germany, recordings of American music have always been sold in in large numbers, which, by the way, contributed to the emergence of their own musicians in the 90s, most often such as Nana, emigrants who began right here in Germany to create their own unique style simply called German hip hop. The main difference between it and its overseas progenitor is the different themes and the great differentiation of the German version. It turns out that the Germans, watching from the outside, brought themselves up not as categorical as the Americans, they were less oppressed, and they absorbed all the best from the American groups of both coasts. As a result, starting from the rich heritage of the best American brethren, the Germans formed a specific microclimate in their country, and most importantly: listeners to their music were found as quickly as this very culture arose.
