The library of the Palace of Culture dates back to its history in December 1941. It was then that books from the library of the Moscow Carburetor Plant arrived in echelons with factory equipment. They were placed in one of the rooms of the SHAAZ administrative building on the street. October. These 1862 books (there were exactly so many of them) served as the basis for the library of the Palace of Culture (at that time the library of the factory committee of the SHAAZ trade union). The most surprising thing is that some books from the library of the Moscow Automobile Plant have survived to this day.

A lot has changed in 75 years. But the library has always done and continues to do the main thing: to introduce people to knowledge, teach them to think, read, dream, and become the center of communication and information. But, as they say: "Who owns the information, he owns the whole world."
The library is a genetic fund of culture, a spiritual island where Her Majesty the Book always rules the show.
Books collect pearls of thought and pass them on to their descendants; thanks to them, human memory will be eternal. As the book grows, so does the person. Nadezhda Konstantinovna Krupskaya said: "The younger generation needs a book no less than a school."
In 1949, the first children's library was opened in Kamchatka, in Petropavlovsk. In 1969, it received the status of a regional one, now it is a regional children's library named after Vitaly Kruchina. For 61 years it has become a major cultural center of spiritual communication with the book. She won universal popularity, love and respect of young readers and residents of the city. Our children's center of culture gave thousands of children the joy and happiness of communicating with a book, a guiding star in the world of knowledge, goodness and beauty.
The geography of the place of residence of our readers is extensive and varied. They live in different parts of the former Soviet Union, from Moscow to the very outskirts of Kamchatka and even abroad. Thousands of readers have long chosen their life path. They became engineers, pilots, sailors, teachers, doctors and workers of various professions.
I see in front of me active young readers of the library: Valentin Pustovit, Yura Kaidalov, Kolya Stelnyh, Vika Kremer, Sveta Porygina, Lyuba Porunova, Inessa Shikunova, Rita Erokhina, Vitya Panfilov, Volodya Bakhirev, Valera Zhukovsky and many others. For us, they were and still are - Sveta, Kolya, Vitya, Natasha, although their children and grandchildren already go to libraries. We are proud of them and we are sure that both our books and passionate propagandists - librarians - helped them in choosing a profession, their way of life. We are proud and rejoice in their successes, realizing that this good is a share of both our work and the years we have not lived in vain. And for this it is worth living and working. Living and raising children is the greatest happiness on earth. The historical fund of the library has awards - the Diploma "Library of excellent work", the Diploma of the laureate of the Kamchatka Komsomol Prize named after Vitaly Kruchina for great work on patriotic and aesthetic education youth.
Each time has its own signs and sounds. The first and good is remembered for a long time and firmly. In the late 60s and early 70s, an independent network of children's libraries was first created in the Kamchatka region. I remember the first heads of children's libraries. These were creative personalities, professionals who love their work: Natalya Filippovna Vedernikova (head of the Peter and Paul City Children's Library), head. district children's libraries: Zinaida Pavlovna Schukina - Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR (Yelizovo), Dina Ivanovna Khokhlova (Milkovo), Vera Vasilievna Mikhailova (Ust-Kamchatsk), Anna Fedorovna Kopaneva (Palana), Klavdia Egorovna Banakanova (Tigil) - they worked with full return of strength. Among them were veterans of culture, excellent students of cultural enlightenment. Behind good staging The Elizovskaya, Palanskaya, Ust-Kamchatskaya and Peter and Paul Children's Libraries were awarded with the Diploma "Library of excellent work". Kamchatka Regional Children's Library named after Vitaly Kruchina methodological center provided systematic methodological and practical assistance on the ground to children and school libraries with the aim of improving and further improving the activities of libraries in serving books to children and adolescents in the Kamchatka region. During the centralization of libraries in Kamchatka, children's libraries became branches and departments of the CLS. In my opinion, it would be rational to release children's libraries from subordination in the CLS systems and create an independent library body, entirely focused on working with children and adolescents.
During the years of Soviet power, our country was the most reading in the world. And what do we have today? Last year on the pages of the AIF newspaper there was an action "For a Reading Russia". What have we been up to? Academician Sergei Kapitsa asks the question: “What will happen to Russia if now one-fourth of the population does not read at all?” Others read little, others, especially young people, are fond of detective stories or literature, which is not the source of the moral education of the individual. Film director Svyatoslav Govorukhin emphasizes: “A generation without a soul will grow up in Russia if it doesn’t read.” Books give us spiritual food, educate feelings, promote moral education personality. The best teachers-writers, all librarians of the country should participate in spiritual education. A huge role belongs to children's libraries, librarians instill in children a love of reading from an early age. It is with a children's book that the education of a person begins. Academician D.S. Likhachev advised to start this education even earlier - with kindergarten where the book is also present.
A children's book is not just a source of information, it is a source of knowledge, a reason for reflection, communication, development of independent life position, and the children's library is exactly that point on the map of the district, city, region, region, country, where the most vivid thoughts and feelings boil. The Children's Library is one of important institutions culture, it is a laboratory where Child's world, the origins of the child's soul and the foundations of the worldview are born, where the spiritual health of the nation is laid. The role of libraries and books in helping the moral education of a person is great, through acquaintance with the best examples of children's literature, classical and modern, we can educate worthy, noble, highly moral personalities. Now the question of the moral health of the nation is being raised at the state level, of non-reading among younger generation speak with alarm in the government.
The moment has come when we are talking about the revival of universal human values, genuine values. It is to them that childhood belongs - the most vulnerable, most defenseless and at the same time shaping time. human life. So let's firmly uphold the priority of childhood, making this idea the leading one in all our endeavors. This is the only way to ensure that the child and the book become inseparable concepts. Readers go to the library each with their own individual destiny and purpose, and the librarian is obliged to break through to the personality of the child through the book. It's nice to come to such readers, both children and adults. “I have always imagined Paradise as something like a luxurious library,” said Jorge Luis Borges, and any Russian writer and many of our readers could have said these words. “Bookish people are my neighbors,” wrote the remarkable Russian poet Lev Oshanin.
The history of librarianship is an important part of the history and culture of our society. (On the deep roots, historical origins of librarianship in Russia, see the publication "Repositories of Treasures of Thought").
But why is “library day” celebrated on May 27? Yes, because it was on this day that the first state public library in Russia was founded in St. Petersburg by the highest order of Empress Catherine II. Until 1917, it was called the Imperial Public Library, then, until 1925 - the Russian Public Library, since 1932 - named after M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, and until March 27, 1992 - the State Public Library, affectionately known as "Publicka". Today, this one of the largest libraries in the world, the second largest collection in our country, is no longer just a library, but a repository of national memory, an all-Russian information, research and Cultural Center, is called the Russian national library. According to the decree of the President of Russia, it is a particularly valuable object of national heritage, representing the historical and cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation.
Imperial Public Library
The idea of organizing a public library in Russia appeared in early XVIII century: in 1766, a plan for its creation was proposed for consideration by Empress Catherine II, but only a year and a half before her death, the empress approved this plan, adequately completing her reign with this deed.
The place for the library was determined in the very center of the capital Russian Empire: on the corner of Nevsky Prospekt and Sadovaya Street, the construction of the building designed by the architect E. T. Sokolov lasted about 15 years.
The basis of the foreign fund of the Imperial public library a collection of books and manuscripts was laid down - the so-called "Zaluski Library", which was collected by the Poles brothers Jozef Andrzej and Andrzej Stanislav Zaluski strictly scientific basis and was completed with literature from the most different countries Europe. After the suppression of the uprising led by Kosciuszko in 1794 and the capture of Warsaw by Suvorov, the library, which consisted of 400 thousand volumes, was declared property and transported to St. Petersburg as a war trophy. In the 1930s, the Bolsheviks returned the main part of the Załuski Library (50,000 volumes) to Poland, but during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, it was looted and partially destroyed by the Nazis.
It was planned to open the first public library in 1812, however, due to the invasion of Napoleon, the most valuable part of the collection was evacuated from St. Petersburg, and the opening had to be postponed for two years. It solemnly took place on January 2 (14), 1814.
In the first thirty years of operation, more than 100,000 publications were issued to readers.
To accommodate the growing fund, a second building was built, facing the Catherine's Garden (architect C. Rossi). I. A. Krylov, N. I. Gnedich, K. N. Batyushkov, A. A. Delvig, V. S. Sopikov, A. Kh. Vostokov, M. N. The second Russian capital, Moscow, did not lag behind St. Petersburg. One of the oldest and largest libraries in the city is the Russian State Library, based on the funds of the Rumyantsev Museum.
For Muscovites, “library day” is May 23 (O.S.). On this day in 1861, the Committee of Ministers adopted a resolution on the transfer of the Rumyantsev Museum to Moscow and the creation of the Moscow Public Museum. But back in the 1850s. the trustee of the Moscow educational district E. P. Kovalevsky decided to create on the basis of the collections of Moscow University public museum and to place the university library in a special building and make it more accessible. Professor of Moscow University T.N. Granovsky, critic V.G. Belinsky, translator and publisher E.F. Korsh, who became the first librarian of the Moscow Public and Rumyantsev Museums, a major industrialist, publisher, philanthropist K.T. Soldatenkov is one of the most generous donors to the project. In 1859, N. V. Isakov became the trustee of the Moscow educational district: “In the person of his district, and with him the Moscow intelligentsia met an “actively sympathetic” trustee of public education in the broad sense of the word. The Rumyantsev Museum since 1845 was part of the Imperial Public Library in St. Petersburg. Its curator V. F. Odoevsky, having lost hope of obtaining funds for the maintenance of his offspring, offered to move the museum to Moscow. Odoevsky's note on the plight of the Rumyantsev Museum, addressed to the Minister of the State Court, was seen by Isakov and set in motion. We must pay tribute to the Governor-General of Moscow P. A. Tuchkov and the Minister of Public Education E. P. Kovalevsky - they invited all Muscovites to take part in the formation of the "Museum of Sciences and Arts", as this project was originally called. And Muscovites hastened to help: more than three hundred book and manuscript collections, individual priceless gifts, joined the fund of the Moscow Public and Rumyantsev Museums.
Emperor Alexander II on July 1 (June 19, O.S.) 1862 approved the "Regulations on the Moscow Public Museum and the Rumyantsev Museum", which became the first legal document who determined the management, structure, directions of activity. There was also a clause on the obligatory delivery to the National Library of Russia of two free copies of any printed matter published in Russia - and this clause, surprisingly, still “works”!
The Moscow public and Rumyantsev included, in addition to the library, departments of manuscripts, rare books, Christian and Russian Antiquities, Department of Fine Arts, Ethnographic, Numismatic, Archaeological, Mineralogical.
After the revolution, in 1924, Soviet authority renamed the Rumyantsev Library - it became State Library USSR them. V. I. Lenin or "Lenin". And from January 29, 1992 to the present, everyone knows it as the Russian State Library.
The RSL keeps a unique collection of domestic and foreign documents in 367 languages of the world; the volume of its fund exceeds 43 million storage units; there are specialized collections of maps, notes, sound recordings, rare books, dissertations, newspapers and other types of publications. The library grants the right to use its reading rooms to all citizens of Russia and other countries who have reached the age of 18. About 200 new readers sign up here every day. Almost 4 thousand people come to the RSL every day, and virtual reading rooms located in 80 cities of Russia and neighboring countries serve more than 8 thousand visitors daily. The library collections have been used by a variety of people for 140 years. Among them are world-famous scientists and students, practitioners and thinkers, our compatriots and foreigners. For many years now, I, too, have been a reader and admirer of the RSL, I had to act within its walls as a writer and poet. And in the late 90s, I met the director of the Moscow book collector Faina Grigoryevna Pupyreva, and finally moved from the class of “active users” to the class of “guest writers”: I met readers, talked about literature about great Russian writers, read poetry, spoke in schools, brought friends and acquaintances of writers, among whom were S. V. Kunyaev, Yu. Yu. Vorobyevsky, A. N. Zabolotsky, priest and writer Yaroslav Shipov and others. Since then, I have been a regular guest of Moscow libraries - from school, institute, army, even prison ones - to the Russian State Library.
The All-Russian Day of Libraries is unlikely to be marked by national festivities and fireworks. And yet, for most Russians, this is a real holiday, because libraries - district, school, even home - are associated with many wonderful discoveries, meetings with other worlds, high moral experiences and wonderful spiritual upheavals.
