There is a unique historical and literary museum in Taldom, which will celebrate its centenary in 2020. The cultural, historical and natural heritage of the local region is collected and stored here. The museum itself is one of the oldest in the Moscow region. Let's get acquainted with all the stages of its creation and development, as well as learn about the personalities whose stories are revealed in the Taldom Museum.

The idea of creating a museum in Taldom arose in 1918 thanks to the activities of the teachers' circle of the "active method", which was engaged in local history work at school. The first exhibits of the museum were several types of mosses, which were brought to the classroom by students of the Taldom School after an excursion into the forest under the guidance of their teacher Evgenia Vikentievna Sosenkova. In 1931, the museum received at its disposal a two-story house, which before the revolution belonged to the merchant of the first guild, Dmitry Volkov. The museum is located in this house today.

The post was prepared jointly with Sergey Balashov, Deputy Director for scientific work"Taldom Historical and Literary Museum" and the Administration of the Taldom District.

The museum building is closely connected with the Taldom merchant Dmitry Ivanovich Volkov. He was born in 1862 in Taldom in peasant family, where the foundations and orders were strictly religious. As soon as Dmitry was five years old, his father took up the education of his young son. After the ABC course, Dmitry was offered the Psalter, the Lives of the Saints and the Gospel for study. Upbringing, given to the boy V parental home, so influenced the child's soul that Dmitry, as soon as he was 14 years old, left his native Taldom and went on foot to Moscow to enter some monastery. The God-loving youth reached the center of Moscow, and on Varvarka his father caught up with him and, despite persuasion, returned his son home. Thus ended the first impulse of the soul to serve God...

4. Photo of 1905. Volkov family. Noble women and a stately man look from this yellowed photograph, pretty worn out by time. They are completely serene and yet completely unaware of sharp turns destined for them by fate. But some are gone, and those are far away... Once upon a time, Dmitry Ivanovich Volkov, a merchant of the 1st guild, an honorary citizen of the city of Taldom, owned a beautiful mansion in the city center, which today houses a museum.

5. Photo late XIX century. Dmitry Ivanovich Volkov.

Having reached the age of 18, at Christmas time in 1881, Dmitry Volkov went to the village of Starikovo and wooed the maiden Maria Shlihunova. A few days later, a wedding took place in the Taldom church. Despite such short term their acquaintance, Maria Ignatievna became a true friend and spiritually close person for her husband, with whom he always shared his joys and sorrows.

Thanks to the personal labors and labors of his wife, Volkov founded his own business for the sale of shoes and leather goods. With funds from the sale of goods, was built great house in the then fashionable Art Nouveau style with balconies and ceilings designed by Monnier. Trading was only a means to provide for his family, while Dmitry Ivanovich himself was completely immersed in matters of religion, philosophy, politics and art. He is a passionate lover of literature - when he read the poetry of Omar Khayyam, he began to study Persian in order to read the Rubaiyat in the original. And, by the way, it was already in the seventh decade. But that was after ... And then, at the beginning of the last century, in an intricate house in the center of Taldom, a book was reserved for books. separate room, where the works of the classics, religious literature, art albums were stored and reread, and in the mornings over tea - the invariable " Russian word". Over tea, meeting his wife in the living room, Dmitry Ivanovich often said: “You know, Seryozha wrote again ...”. Seryozha is Sergey Klychkov, a poet of the Silver Age, who often visited the Volkovs. By the way, it was Klychkov that Yesenin dedicated his famous “I don’t regret, I don’t call, I don’t cry ...”. And in the Volkovs' house, books and textbooks on astronomy, which the whole family was fond of, occupied a special place, and there was a telescope on the balcony of the house, and in clear summer nights all family members could observe the constellations, the names of which they knew by heart.

Dmitry Volkov was a major zemstvo figure who defended the interests of the peasants. He took an active part in the improvement hometown: allocated funds for the construction and maintenance of schools, hospitals, malls and fire tower. In addition, Dmitry Ivanovich donated from family funds large sums to the Church of the Archangel Michael in Taldom, for which he repeatedly received letters of blessing from the Holy Synod, was awarded a gold medal and an icon of the All-Merciful Savior. When did the first World War, Volkov gave under the infirmary new house which he built for his children. And he also bought medical equipment with his own funds. Many handicraft shoemakers, knowing the merchant's generosity, came to him to ask for a reprieve of the debt: “Dmitry Ivanovich, you should wait with the debt. My wife is about to give birth, kids ... ”But Dmitry Ivanovich did not wait, he simply crossed out the debt from the book, and even gave money for childbirth. And how many people he helped without any requests, only when he heard that a person was in grief ...

But Maria Ignatievna was a person of a completely different warehouse, she was reserved and distrustful. But, like her husband, she also helped many people. Although she will not forgive the debt, she will give money, and in addition - a dowry for the newborn. And then all the time I watched how the family lived, and from time to time helped her. As nannies, as maids, she took girls from poor families, whom she tried to give at least a small education, looked for suitors for them and provided dowries. “And it was for her as if for granted ...” - said her daughter Maria. The charity Christmas trees that they held in their home were also a matter of course for this family. From the forest they brought a huge fluffy Christmas tree and installed in the music room. There was a piano in the room, and the owner's daughter always played at such parties for children from poor families. Children never left the Volkovs without gifts: for boys they were wooden horses, and for girls they were small porcelain dolls.

Dmitry Volkov was a participant in the jubilee rout of the Zemstvo on the occasion of the 50th anniversary. The celebrations were held in the halls of the Assembly of the Nobility on Mikhailovskaya Square in St. Petersburg. Bypassing the delegations, Emperor Nicholas II approached Dmitry Ivanovich and asked what Zemstvo he was from. Hearing that Volkov has been a vowel in the Kalyazinsky district for more than 20 years, the emperor said: "Thank you. I wish you as many years of work for the public good.

Very soon, on February 17, to the whistle and shouts of the crowd, portraits of the last Russian emperor they will fly into dirty brown snowdrifts ... The Volkov family was forced to leave their native Taldom and wander around the Moscow communal apartments. Maria Ignatievna, having lost the house, in the construction of which so much of her efforts had been invested, having lost the business to which she devoted a significant part of her life, she simply could not stand it and died of a brain hemorrhage in January 1920. Two teenage sons stood over the coffin of their mother, but one by one they died in the hungry 1920s ... And Dmitry Ivanovich, how true christian, said: "What God gave, God took." And, despite the fact that everyone lived in fear of expecting reprisals, he did not lose interest in life and considered it a worthwhile thing, saying that you still couldn’t get away from fate. In the 1930s, he was summoned to the Lubyanka, mocked, and then sent to Kalinin. He was allowed to return to Moscow only a few years later, and when the war began, the 80-year-old man participated in the defense of the capital. He died in December 1941 and is buried in Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow in the same grave with his wife.

The fate of the Volkov children is amazing. Eldest daughter Zinaida in 1912 married the military Kozlovsky, but, despite the fact that a daughter, Nadezhda, was born in the family, the marriage soon broke up. And in 1914 the singer of the Moscow opera house Zimina Vyacheslav Ressler proposed to Zinaida. Nadezhda composed beautiful music and painted scarves, her series of works "Russian Motifs" was presented in Paris. Her younger sister Lydia Ressler was extraordinarily beautiful and studied with famous pianist Heinrich Neuhaus, and her classmate was Svyatoslav Richter, with whom they maintained a warm friendship for life. And Lydia's husband Michael Deregus was people's artist The USSR went down in history primarily as an illustrator of Gogol and Shevchenko.

The youngest daughter of the Volkovs, Maria, the favorite of the whole family, was born in Taldom in 1906. Even before the revolution, she was a student at the Arsenyeva boarding school on Prechistenka. Dodya Meshcherskaya, the daughters of Moscow professors Marianna Khoroshko and Kira Postnikova, as well as the granddaughter of the owner of the boarding school, studied in her class. Then Masha took music lessons from the Gnessin sisters. After the revolution, she left her native Taldom and went to Moscow, where she lived with her parents. In 1932, she married a military man, Yevgeny Rossov, who died in 1942. Upon learning of the death of her husband, Maria Dmitrievna became very ill, especially since her father had died a year earlier. She remained faithful to her husband and spent the rest of her life alone. And this remnant was very, very long - she died in 2000. Until her death, she, like her father, did not lose interest in life, wrote poetry and memoirs. She participated in the art and journalistic competition of the newspaper "On Presnya" and her essay about the artist Lebedev-Shuisky, a member of the Volkov family, took second place.

And on Presnya, Maria Dmitrievna lived a lot. She lived on Nikitskaya, then in Leontievsky Lane, then moved to Mantulinskaya. A last years lived on Malaya Gruzinskaya. Here, in her apartment, stacks of yellowed letters and leaflets with memories lay neatly folded into folders and envelopes, and her relatives looked sadly from the photographs hanging on the walls: mom, dad, sister and, of course, beloved husband. Antique furniture silently reminded of the former situation. After the death of Maria Dmitrievna, all these things ended up in the Taldom Museum and fell into place here. A special place was occupied by an old piano with elegant candelabra. The German instrument remembers the warmth of its owner's hands, and it seems that the lid is about to open, the fingers run over the keys, and someone's painfully familiar voice will pour out: "I remember the lovely sound of a waltz ...".
