Many fairy tales, legends, and traditions have come to us from hoary antiquity. But the most main legend of the Bashkir people is the legend “Ural Batyr”.

“Ural Batyr” is a legend of the Sessen poets or, in other words, folk storytellers. These pots not only composed, but also memorized, performed, and passed on ancient legends from generation to generation. And they accompanied their performances to the sounds musical instrument- smoke.

But who is Ural Batyr, what did he become famous for, that even the mountains bear his name. So listen up, guys.

A long time ago, when there were no Ural Mountains, there lived an old man and an old woman. And they had a son named Ural. When Ural grew up and became a real hero, he began to take care of his parents, go hunting, and get food. That's how they lived. But one day the Urals went hunting and saw that the leaves on the trees began to turn yellow, the grass began to droop, the fast rivers dried up, and it became difficult to breathe. Everyone in the area was slowly dying - animals, birds, and people. And then the old man gave a diamond sword to his son Ural and said: “They say that somewhere very far from here there is living water, get it and everything will come to life again.”

Ural took his father’s sword and went wherever his eyes looked. He walked and walked until he came to the crossroads of seven roads. There I met a gray-bearded old man and turned to him with the question: “How to find a spring with living water?”

Never knowing the reins:

Ears stick out like reeds,

The mane is like a girl's braid;

Falcon chest, narrow sides,

He is cool and light on his hooves,

Nostrils are like cloves of garlic

The neck is thin like a snake

Double crown, sunken cheeks,

Like outstretched legs, like the eyes of a predatory wolf,

The eyelids above them are a stripe of clouds;

And he will rush off, fluttering like a bird, - Only then will the dust begin to swirl.

And, one day, the Ural Batyr pulled out his sword, waved it three times over his head and deeply cut the ground. And he sent his sons to look for a big river. The sons walked for a long time without looking back. But then Idel turned back and saw that white water was moving after him in a wide ribbon. This is how the Agidel River was born. The rivers Yaik and Sakmar were also born.
