Less than a year later, I more or less mastered Painter and made sure that this program is really as good as they say it is, not even - it's even better. Man with right hands in it he can draw whatever his heart desires, a man with crooked paws .... too, but not as good. On the other hand, if the second subject (which I originally was) regularly exercises in drawing, then he will achieve something and even has every chance of moving into the category of the first, in which he has an undoubted advantage over the first, because he has nowhere to go.
But I will finish praising this amazing program and try to get down to business. Recently, almost going into the ranks of the first, I was challenged to a duel. And I decided to draw a person who has a galaxy right in front of his nose. Okay, I can more or less draw people, but my paws didn’t reach space art. I plucked up courage and decided to create my own method of drawing such things in Painter. And why, in fact, not?

Part one. Ready…

Sometimes it happens that you have to draw something that you hear about for the first time in your life. Fortunately, everyone heard about the subject of our lesson, even those who skipped astronomy classes or let paper airplanes at their neighbors during these lessons. But, I think, just like that, from the fly, few people will be able to give out a good, well-drawn space object. So the first thing we do is pull images of galaxies from the Internet. A lot of good pictures can be easily found on Google on request. I took this picture as the basis for my work:

Part two. Steady…

Preparing the battlefield. File > New. We take the sizes you need. Since this is happening in space, and there, if you believe the photographs and what is shown on TV, it is quite dark, then we take a dark background:

When I was drawing a picture for a duel, I was faced with the fact that, immediately starting to draw the galaxy at an angle, I ended up with something bent and not so similar to the galaxy. Therefore, I take the Grabber tool (such a hand), press and hold the mouse button, and then select Rotate Page (arrow) from the expanded list and rotate the canvas with the expectation that I will then return it to its original position.

Part three. Go!

Well, now you are mentally ready to get to work. Take the Digital Airbrush from the medium size Airbrushes category. and set a small Opacity - up to 10%. Hold Alt and take the color from the galaxy core on the reference, then tweak it a bit to your liking and start drawing the galaxy core. Remember that Airbrushes are sensitive to the angle of the pen, and do not press hard on the pen of the tablet!

Now we have to ease the pressure even more. Since you don't touch at all working surface we can't do it, then we go to Edit > Preferences > Brush Tracking and strongly (now strongly) we spend on the Scratch Pad. Sweep over this area until the Pressure Power parameter is 3 plus (but less than 4). We press OK. Now you can slightly increase the Opacity and push a little harder.

Having set the pressure, we take one more color from the reference and begin to outline the "sleeves" of the galaxy. In real galaxies, there are from two to ten arms, and how many you draw depends on your fantasy and spatial imagination. Let them be three, I do not mind:

When you are satisfied with the position, number and shape of the sleeves, take the Variable Splatter (still the same Airbrushes), Opacity take about 20%. Now two valuable indications: Feature is responsible for the size of one spray (I won’t know if you can say so or not), Flow - for the density of the spray. Feature - 11.3 and Flow - 5 were enough for me. In addition, I got into the Brush Tracker (Ctrl + B) and adjusted the Size, taking minimum size brushes 10% and value Expression = Pen Pressure - so it's easier to maneuver. Grabbing a lighter color from the reference and tweaking it to my liking, I started painting star trails.

The galaxy is made up of stars, and stars have the property of emitting light. Taking the Digital Airbrush mind-blowing big size(100 with something) and one of the shades of beige from the reference, I began to fill the space between the sleeves with light movements:

The center seemed to me pale. I took Soft Airbrush and added white color into the core for the galaxy to actually radiate. In addition, under the yellowish belt, I drew another, darker one to add volume:

Using Variable Splatter, we continue to draw stars by changing various settings and colors. If you want them to glow more, use the Glow brush from section F-X and walk it through right places but neat and unobtrusive.

Is there still something missing? Then, using the same, already beloved Variable Splatter, only smaller and with a smaller Feature light shades of blue, light blue, purple (in this case), draw the side sleeves. Let's add some bright dots scattered in different places, are the brightest stars.

Now we return to the Rotate Page, look carefully at the upper left corner of the desktop and see the corner icon there. We reset the value of the angle, press Enter, add some more space objects so that our galaxy is not so boring. Ready!

Here are three drawings that I got after another experiment. These are cosmic, galactic and alien landscapes that I painted with great pleasure! Read on for step-by-step instructions on how to draw these three amazing drawings of the galaxy and space!

For all three drawings, I used these watercolors and paper, and of course you can't do without brushes. You will also need: a straw white chalk, white oil pastel, a candle, some white acrylic paint, rubbing alcohol and salt! Salt is important and I think creates my favorite effect. Not all types of salt work well with watercolor. I have found that the best results are obtained with this salt. The regular sea salt I had at home didn't work at all, and the finely ground salt just dissolved in the water.

I'll start in order. The first drawing I created is a galaxy. It was a great try for an experiment. The second is an alien landscape that was fun to create. Last drawing, which is at the bottom right, is a bit deliberate. Here I used everything that came out in the first two drawings, and made everything the way I wanted.

I started by taping the paper to the board with duct tape, as this helps keep the paper straight. Then I took wax, white chalk and white oil pastel.

If you've never used chalk with watercolor, you should give it a try! The idea is that because of the chalk, the watercolor does not penetrate to a certain part of the drawing. So whatever you draw with chalk will remain white. You can find out more about this here. The fact is that you can do it not only with chalk, but also with wax, soap, oil pastels, and get a great result.

I heated the wax and just poured some on the paper. I also added lines, dots and more funny figures using chalk and oil pastels. It's hard to see, so I had to tilt the sheet to make these figures stand out.

Then I sprayed some water onto the paper with a spray bottle and added the colors. At the next stage, I blew into the straw to get interesting shapes.

After that, the paper looks like this.

I decided to add salt. It usually absorbs some of the water and pigment, creating fantastic patterns. However, not all salt does the job. Here I have used the usual sea ​​salt which didn't work.

After an unsuccessful experiment with salt, I started adding black paint around the edges of the drawing and dragging it towards the center.

I worked on the whole drawing, adding dark spirals and shapes. You can really see chalk, oil pastels and wax here.

Then I used white acrylic paint and a small round brush to add the stars. I also experimented with white paint and an old toothbrush, but was not happy with the result.
