viennese waltz

Tango originated in Argentina, at the intersection of Latin American dances and African dance forms, and for a long time remained the favorite dance of the African communities in Buenos Aires. The word itself is of African origin. It was applied to music resulting from the synthesis various forms music from Europe, Africa and America. H.L. Borges wrote: "The tango is the 'son' of the Uruguayan milonga and the 'grandson' of the habanera." The first European show took place in Paris, where it made an unprecedented sensation in 1910, and soon after that in London, Berlin and other capitals of the Old World. The excessive proximity of the dancers shocked for many years with frank sensuality, but world success was already a foregone conclusion. Tango first conquered the dance floors of the world, and later entered the Latin American ballroom dance program, later it was transferred to the Standard (international program). The modern version of European tango is characterized by a bright external expression, in contrast to the traditional Argentine tango, where feelings are experienced inside, deep in the soul. A large number of figures, bright emotional movements made it a favorite dance of the public.

Foxtrot

Quick step

Quickstep is the fastest and most dynamic of the European standard dances. It does not have the romanticism of a waltz or the conflict of a tango, everything here is fun, carefree and harmonious. Quickstep originated during the 1st World War in suburban New York, originally performed by African dancers. And after the debut in the American Music Hall, it became very popular in dance halls. In the twenties, many orchestras played the slow foxtrot too fast, which caused a lot of complaints among the dancers, so the fast foxtrot was reborn into a new dance direction- Quickstep. The dance is filled with jumps, jumps with turns to the right, left, back with turns to the right and left, and the main mood in its performance is lightness and carelessness.

The young cha-cha-cha dance originated from a combination of rumba and mambo in 1952, when the famous English ballroom dance teacher Pierre Lavelle saw in Cuba an original version of the rumba with additional steps corresponding to additional beats in music, when the rhythm is set by beats castanets, drums, with three accented "clicks". Cha-cha-cha got its name and character because of the repetitive basic rhythm and the special sound of perky maracas. In England, Lavelle began to teach this variant as a separate dance, which, thanks to its simplicity and originality, quickly conquered the whole world. Cha-cha-cha has a light-hearted, cheerful and cheeky nature, as opposed to the more restrained and dramatic rumba. And if rumba is an anticipation of love, then cha-cha-cha is lively emotions, passion embodied, which is complemented by the original comic and liberated mood of this dance.

Samba is the national Brazilian dance. At carnivals in Rio, a huge number of styles of samba are danced: from "Baion" to "Marcha". To show true character samba, the dancer must perform it passionately, playfully and coquettishly. The history of samba is the fusion of African dances from Angola and the Congo with Spanish dances brought to Brazil by the European conquerors. And, of course, this is a story of passion and love, because the word "Zamba" means "child of a black man and a white woman" (mulatto). Slave dances, Catarete, Embolada and Batuque, the progenitors of samba, were considered in medieval Europe sinful, because in the process of dancing the partners touched each other with their navels, and were strictly forbidden by the Inquisition. Samba figures are performed with springy movements, "Samba Bounce", accompanied by active work hips. Without these rather complicated movements, always passionate and impetuous, it is impossible to embody the spirit of samba. Today samba remains the most popular brazilian dance and musical genre.

Among all ballroom dances, rumba stands out with the deepest emotional content. Distinctive feature rumba are erotic flowing movements combined with wide steps. The contrast of the pronounced erotic nature of the dance and the dramatic emotional content of the music creates a unique aesthetic effect. Rumba was born at the intersection of African religious Santeria dances and dances of the Spanish conquerors in the poor quarters of Cuba, when people gathered together on Saturdays to dissolve in the dance and forget about their sorrows and sorrows at least for a while. The gentleman follows the lady in search of contact with the hips, and the lady, as if being the object of impudent courtship, tries to restrain her partner's passion and avoid touching. And it is no coincidence that the name “dance of love” has stuck to the rumba, because its temperament and expression invariably fascinate all its spectators and participants. Having immigrated to America, the Cuban rumba was reborn into a new dance direction, the American rumba. It was this more restrained version of the dance that soon conquered the dance floors of the whole world.

paso doble

Paso doble was given to the world by the Spanish gypsies, who combined into a single whole such integral features of the Spanish people as passion, love for dancing and bullfighting. The dance can be performed by a man and a woman, or by two men. Usually, the man represents the bullfighter and the woman the cape; if men dance, they imitate a bullfighter and a bull. The name of the dance, translated from Spanish, means "two steps", that is how many steps the partners must take towards each other during the musical measure. The paso doble is characterized by a special position of the dancer's body: a highly raised chest, a rigidly fixed head, straightened but lowered shoulders. paso doble dance to characteristic music march, which is traditionally performed before the start of the bullfight. Paso Doble is passion embodied in movement, and the emotional tension in the music, emphasized by dramatic expressive poses, gives this exciting dance an incomparable bright color.

Jive is incendiary dance to rhythmic and energetic music, combining best features rock and roll and jitterbug. It appeared in the southeastern United States at the end of the 19th century, and according to different versions from the dances of the African Negroes or the ritual war dances of the Seminole Indians in Florida around a captured paleface or his skull. The jive developed after the Second World War, moving to Europe, but its characteristic risky climbs and jumps made jive dangerous for dance halls, so for a long time it was performed only in competitions. During its development, jive has undergone a number of modifications and has become known throughout the world under such names as lindy, west coast swing and american swing. The modern version of jive has basic steps consisting of a fast syncopated chasse (step, prefix, step) left and right, along with a slower back and forward step. Hips are displayed on the account "and". After each step, the weight is in front, and all steps are taken from the toe. Jive is the last dance of the Latin American program, which is fundamentally different from all previous dances in terms of the nature and technique of performance. He forces couples to give the public all their emotions and positive, demanding the highest dance skills.

Waltz is the most famous, beautiful and romantic of ballroom dances. In addition to acquiring grace, nobility and beautiful posture, waltz dancers in any environment will be able to put their skills into practice, this dance is universal and easy to learn. A waltz is always appropriate, both at a ball and at any other celebration, such as a wedding, birthday, anniversary. Waltz is the unifying name for all dances in 3/4 time. The well-known "one-two-three, one-two-three, one-two-three ..." is the most common figure in Waltz - full turn two measures with three steps each. The waltz has its origins in the old folk dances of Austria and southern Germany. The name comes from the German word walzen - "to rotate", "circle". The first mention of the waltz dates back to about 1770. At first, this dance caused a strong dislike of both the guardians of morality and dance masters. For some time, the waltz existed within the framework of contradances, and it was in the variant of English country dances, but soon gained independence, “slid” into the world, and then firmly settled in first place among ballroom dances popular in Europe. Today there are many varieties of waltz, such as the Viennese waltz, the Argentine waltz, but the classic Slow Waltz is still the main ballroom dance, a symbol of romance and grace.

Tango originated in Argentina, at the intersection of Latin American dances and African dance forms, and has long been a favorite dance of the African communities in Buenos Aires. The word "tango" is also of African origin. It was applied to music resulting from the synthesis of various forms of music from Europe, Africa and America. H.L. Borges wrote: "The tango is the 'son' of the Uruguayan milonga and the 'grandson' of the habanera." The first European show of tango took place in Paris, where it made an unprecedented sensation in 1910, and soon after that in London, Berlin and other capitals of the Old World. After that, the traditional Argentine tango gained new life and a new breath, reborn into a special dance direction - European tango. The excessive closeness of the dancers shocked for many years with frank sensuality, but the world success of tango was already a foregone conclusion. Tango first conquered the dance floors of the world, and later entered the Latin American ballroom dance program, later it was transferred to the Standard (international program). The modern version of European tango is characterized by a bright external expression, in contrast to the traditional argentine tango where feelings are experienced inside, deep in the soul. A large number of figures, bright emotional movements made it a favorite dance of the public. Tango is a living passion embodied in movement. This dance has an assertive, hard and active character, revealing the strongest feelings.

Foxtrot

The foxtrot, which originated in the less temperamental one-step, was invented by Harry Fox for a show in New York in 1913. The foxtrot was part of the Jardin Danse performance on the roof of the New York Theater. As part of his performance, Harry Fox took steps "trotting" (trotting) to ragtime music, and people called his dance "Fox" s Trot ". This dance was distinguished by an imposing, very smooth gait that distinguished it from all other dances. After the First World War During the war, the general fascination with the foxtrot spread to Europe. The foxtrot gave the most significant impetus to the entire ballroom dance. Thanks to him, the eversion position left, the legs began to be placed parallel. The combination of fast and slow steps creates a huge number of variations, dance sequences.A huge number of movements from the foxtrot was borrowed for slow waltz. Such variability made it very popular among dancers who liked to change the rhythmic pattern during the dance, and among the audience. Especially for dance lovers, the so-called social foxtrot soon appeared, which for public dance floors turned into a more static form dance performed on the spot.

viennese waltz

The Viennese waltz differs from all other varieties of the waltz in its fast pace and swiftness. In keeping with the ballroom traditions of the 19th century, the Viennese waltz has a very high standard of performance, during which the body must be strictly tucked up, and every line of the body must carry dignity and strict elegance. Excessive twists and mannerisms in the performance of the Viennese waltz are not welcome. The secret of the beauty of the Viennese waltz lies in the changeable tempo and in the constantly alternating left and right turns. The rapid whirling of the Viennese waltz is based on a deep mutual understanding of the couple, and the movements are performed smoothly and with grace, despite the speed of whirling.

For a person who has fallen into the power of music and rhythmic movement, dance becomes something akin to poetry. The dancing couple, as it were, composes a plastic poem, composes their own plastic portrait. Both partners strive to make it the most perfect, and in this they are helped by hidden powers lurking in the art of ballroom dancing, the forces that can make a person more beautiful, more perfect.

Ballroom dancing, especially its everyday variants (salon dancing) is an invariable attribute of various mass events- parties, weddings, balls, competitions-festivals. Ballroom dancing is a pair dance where a couple is a man and a woman, in compliance with the rules of physical contact.

Sports ballroom dancing are divided into 2 programs: European dances (slow waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, slow foxtrot and quickstep) and Latin American dances(cha-cha-cha, samba, rumba, paso doble and jive).

The basis of ballroom dancing was formed by household dances. folk dances, which were modified under the influence of the norms of etiquette and the way of life of the privileged strata of society.

The first dance canons and secular dances appear in the 12th century, in the era of the Medieval Renaissance - the heyday of the castle chivalrous culture. Dances-promenades, dances-processions, church-semi-secular processions were huge in scale and complex in staging design.

In the XIII-XIV centuries. during numerous theatrical holidays crystallized means of expression future ballroom dancing. Favorite of the peoples, the Branle dance became one of the first forms of ballroom dancing. The Pavan dance was very popular. Balls opened with Pavane, she became the center wedding ceremonies. Until the XIV century. ballroom dancing was performed musical accompaniment small orchestra: 4 cornets, trombone, 2-3 violas. And not distinguished by a rich arsenal of movements, these dances belonged to the group of bass dances (low dances).

With the rise of cities, the emergence of universities, dance expressive means are finally polished. Bass dances are replaced by Minuet and Rigaudon. Light jumps and turns, graceful poses and a fast pace of music appear in the dances. TO late XVII V. in France, England and Germany they begin to dance the country dance, a sedate and strictly symmetrical salon dance.

The gradual complication of dance vocabulary and compositions, the canonization of figures and postures led to the need for long-term dance training. The minuet became the most difficult dance - they began to dance it at a fast pace. IN dance halls Ecosaise (frisky and gracefully playful Polish dance), Gavot (dance of Scottish origin) and many others fall into this category.

IN mid-eighteenth V. couple dances give way mass dances that appeared after the French bourgeois revolution.

Joyful, energetic dances of the French rebels carried away and united everyone with their incendiary rhythm. Country dance turned into a dance-game. They sang couplets and danced Carmagnola or Farandola.
XIX century - the time of mass ballroom dancing. Balls and masquerades are in vogue, where both the nobility and the urban population take part.

The leading place belongs to Waltz. The word "waltz" came into use in the XVIII century. The widespread use of dances led to the organization of special dance classes, where professional teachers taught ballroom dancing and created new compositions.

The French teachers were especially valued. Gradually, the championship of France began to challenge Austria.
And by the 20th century more and more actively the issues of canonization of sick choreography were dealt with in England. There is a change of style and mobility of rhythms, new ballroom dances appear. In 1924 in England, under the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) was created

Department of ballroom dancing. His task was to develop standards for music, steps and ballroom dancing technique. Dances of European origin (slow waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, slow foxtrot and quickstep) are joined by new Latin American dances (cha-cha-cha, samba, rumba, paso doble and jive). Competitions, ballroom dancing competitions are arranged.
All over the world, ballroom dancing is very popular not only as a sports dance (sport), but also as an active leisure and fitness.
