The project turned out to be significantly original and in places even entertaining, or at least fun... but the authors themselves did not know what to do with all their ideas. And therefore, instead of revealing them, they simply took the simple road. In the end, it didn’t turn out very well, and sometimes it was boring and burdensome... Why is that?
Plot seems quite intriguing at first. The authors raise the question of what is hidden behind the everyday routine and are there miracles in the world? And now a whole heap of complex theories is being dumped on us, from quantum physics and cosmology to egocentric philosophy. Well, you know - thought is material, we ourselves shape the world around us, every person is a deity, etc. Behind the masks of ordinary schoolchildren, alien robots, psychics, and guests from the future are discovered. There are still plenty of references to various remarkable things from anime (like Space Battleship Yamato and Evangelion) to non-fiction like Dan Simmons’ “Hyperion” (a rare drag, if that). Isolated spaces and ghostly giants appear. Everything is so tasty and exciting... However, unfortunately, it soon turns out that the authors simply don’t know what to do with all this! That’s why such curious moments hang in the air, never revealing themselves or gaining meaning, never resulting in anything. Therefore, what is happening is reminiscent of visiting a gallery: the viewer is led through a boring and sleepy room, where various static paintings are hung. Look, we have this, and this, how cool we are! If you look at one painting, you move on. And between them is an empty wall of a dull yellow color!
That's what happens in this series! Occasionally we are shown some interesting events - outer space, fantastic battles, foggy monsters... Only all this is not connected together, but just dances around the main character in the form of special cases. She seemed to have created one thing, then another... our aliens are worried and watching her... And nothing! Each such episode passes quickly, leaving the viewer almost hungry. It's like raisins in a fresh and stale loaf! Because between these events there is a monotonous and banal everyday life, filled with completely everyday events and boring fan service about school festivals, dressing up, beach holiday And so on. Nothing that no one has seen in a bunch of other projects. Sometimes it gets to the point where we are shown a completely static frame for about 10 minutes! What kind of hack is this? Ideas remain somewhere there, without being revealed at all from the level of exhibits. And in the end it turns out boring and drawn out. In addition, there is no obvious plot connection here, but simply a certain set of episodes coming one after another. Moreover, it is unknown why the authors mixed them up, so it is sometimes difficult to understand what’s what if you watch it in the order they were shown on TV! Is this an attempt to fool the viewer?
Partially saves the situation humor. There's a lot of it, and it's often really funny. However, there is nothing special here, and in the end, jokes alone are clearly not enough to carry the entire series. This begs the question love line
between the main characters, and there are even some moments in this regard, but again, having outlined it, the authors do not reveal or develop it! There are hints of ecchi and harem, but very sluggish and weak, and this could significantly enliven the picture... So in general, the plot here is a complete failure. And what’s a shame is that, if desired, this could have been made into an incredibly exciting and original masterpiece, but there was only enough gunpowder for its embryos, which total weight generously filled with dull everyday chewing gum... It feels like a similar series could be filmed in any school...
Characters leaves much to be desired... main character– a typical hysterical tsunderyo, of which in the anime there are enough to populate a small African country! She traditionally annoys everyone with her whims and hysterics, mood swings from depression to unbridled joy, she educates everyone and shakes them like a pear, obsessed with another stupid idea. Overall, she's pretty annoying and clearly needs some serious therapy. Otherwise, it’s surprising why she hasn’t been flushed down the toilet or connected to a generator yet – the electricity generated would be enough to power the whole of Tokyo! Main character
– a traditionally dull, middle-class harem-style klutz, as flat as his cartoon expression! At the same time, perhaps the most annoying of all. Not only is he unremarkable, showing an extremely gray personality, but he is also in a permanent bad mood. His eternal whining and internal monologues on the topic “how I’m sick of all this” really gets on my nerves! Who else? Moe from the future, which never showed up. She's certainly cute and busty, but she's too shy and there's nothing more to add here! Schizoid gynoid(obviously copied from Ayanami Rei from the evergreen Evangelion), despite the complete lack of emotions and desire to do something other than read books, is perhaps the most entertaining of this company. At least she throws up interesting events from time to time... Well, she’s also a politely boring psychic who excuses herself with abilities that rarely pop up. The rest of the characters don't deserve attention at all. Each of the heroes is a blank with strictly defined reactions to the world. The relationships of the characters are shown simply, they practically do not develop and for the most part they are all sketched out in order to take up airtime...
Graphic arts made with dignity, and is not at all outdated to our time. In principle, now they draw in exactly the same way, but sometimes it’s even worse. At least the proportions are respected and everything is drawn neatly. Here you go panache quite controversial. It's too childish and simplified. The heroes (especially the girls) look like some kind of baby dolls, and are clearly younger than their real age... Music It worked out well. Everything would be wonderful if these grains fused together to form one multi-faceted diamond. But, alas... between the shiny pebbles there is only gray and cold sand. Therefore, this project can only be recommended for viewing by big fans of hysterical schoolgirls with an awl in their ass, because there is little other entertainment here...

And imagine my surprise when I found out that this is a song from an anime, and that it is performed by a drawn girl in a bunny costume. Thus began my acquaintance with the universe of the unique Haruhi Suzumiya!
is a creation of Japanese animation that has found its fans in all corners of the world. The anime was created based on the popular series in Japan light novel(light novels), and consists of two seasons of 14 episodes each, full-length film and many different branches that special interest they don't call. They were able to perfectly convey the intonations of the main characters and their personalities. The voices are amazingly chosen. In addition, they translated the opening, ending and songs that are played during the school festival. This is one of the few cases where the Russian voice acting is truly at the level of the original from beginning to end.
The first season tells us the story of the formation of the SOS team and its adventures. The story is told from the perspective of an ordinary Japanese schoolboy with a nickname. His real name is never mentioned, everyone just calls him Kyon. On the first day of high school, when all the students were introducing themselves to the class, one girl caught everyone's attention. She immediately said that she was only interested in “aliens, people from the future and psychics,” and that on ordinary people she won't waste time. It was Haruhi. It so happened that she was sitting right behind Kyon, and he, being a friendly person, decided to get to know her. At first, their conversations didn’t go well, but Kyon was able to interest Haruhi in something, and since then they had a tradition of talking for 1-2 minutes before classes. One of these conversations led to the creation of a team SOS — team of Haruhi Suzumiya, who will make this boring world stunned. Kyon, without even meaning to, gave Haruhi the idea that since she didn’t like any of the school clubs, why not create her own? Naturally, the main goal of the team was to search for oddities and mysteries. Haruhi herself was involved in recruiting members of the SOS team, which is why the team included completely non-random, and, as it turned out, difficult people. All subsequent anime series are dedicated to their adventures.

It is interesting because it is the only source common sense in all the madness that fills the adventures of the SOS team. The viewer automatically begins to associate himself with Kyon, since very often his thoughts coincide with the thoughts of an outside observer. As soon as you start thinking: “What the hell is going on here?” , so at the same moment Kyon asks himself this question. When Haruhi talks to Kyon, it starts to seem like she's saying this not only to him, but to you as well. Many of his thoughts have long been taken away for quotes. Definitely one of the most interesting and well-made characters in this anime.

She tries to avoid everyday life, and with all her might she searches for aliens, psychics and people from the past, because it’s so interesting! She is the head and founder of the SOS team, which she, in fact, named after herself (very modestly, isn’t it?).
3). - an inconspicuous girl from a literary circle, with a quiet voice and a very loving books. He is also an alien (humanoid interface) sent to earth to monitor Haruhi Suzumiya. Very interesting character, liked a large number fans. I liked it so much that they recently created an anime called “The Disappearance of Yuki Nagato”, and in which, as you might guess, Yuki is the main character. But I'll tell you about this next time. A humanoid interface that is not alien to human feelings, even if she hides it, what’s not an ideal candidate for the SOS team?
4). , or just Mikurochka. Modest beautiful girl with big breasts. It was because of these characteristics that Haruhi brought her into the SOS team. Mikuru is a kind of talisman for Haruhi, and also an object for all sorts of bullying. Among other things, he turns out to be a time traveler who must follow Haruhi in this time period.
Many will start spitting and saying - wow, it’s hard to come up with a more stereotyped character. But everything is not as simple as it seems. In fact, Mikuru makes a lot more sense. It's an exaggerated take on kawaii moe characters, with every characteristic of cuteness taken to the extreme. She Very Darling, Very modest, Very awkward, and, of course, has impressive breasts. Haruhi herself uses the term "moe" to refer to Mikuru, which further emphasizes the intentionality of creating this type of character. It’s as if the creators are laughing at themselves and at the creators of other anime who use the hackneyed Mikuru character in yet another cheap creation, filling it with fan service in order to attract the viewer. Therefore, there is no need to take Mikuru seriously. She is a caricature of characters similar to her.
5). - transferred to another school in the middle school year schoolboy. This is what seemed strange to Haruhi, and that is why she decided to include him in the SOS team. Itsuki always supports Haruhi's opinion, as he considers her a god. And as a rule, it is better not to anger the gods. IN free time goes into confined spaces created by Haruhi Suzumiya in order to fight giant titans with the help of superpowers. For his abilities, he calls himself a psychic. In my opinion, he is one of the most boring characters, also with fagot tendencies.
6). Ryoko Asakura- Kyon's classmate, class leader. An excellent student with a wonderful character. Except for one small detail - she is the same humanoid interface as Yuki Nagato. Moreover, Ryoko is Yuki’s backup, an older version of her. And one day she decides that she is tired of just watching Haruhi and decides to kill Kyon. It’s good that Nagato turns out to be cooler and manages to come to the rescue. Quite an interesting character from whom you last resort expect bloodthirsty actions.
The remaining characters play a small role in the plot, so I will not list them. However, I note that they are also worked out well and in detail.
Advantages
It's hard to say what grabbed me most about The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. You can’t immediately tell how it differs from the huge amount of mediocrity that Lately released. After some thought, I decided to highlight the following advantages:
Attention to detail. Every phrase Kyon says has meaning. Haruhi's every action matters. When re-watching the first season, you begin to notice a huge amount small parts, which I had not paid attention to before. For example, after Kyon asked Haruhi why she changes her hairstyles every day, she asks the answering question: “Haven’t you and I met anywhere before?” Kyon replies that it’s unlikely. However, the first episode of the second season makes it quite clear that this question was asked for a reason.
Excellent sound performance. Music in this anime is given great importance. It perfectly allows you to convey the atmosphere of what is happening. I would especially like to note the gorgeous song performed by the group ENOZ with Haruhi and Yuki at the school festival. In the cover created by Reanimedia, the song sounds no less cool.
Humor. The humor is simple, but funny, and, for the most part, not vulgar. You want to laugh and smile at such jokes without any second thought.
Yes, it still seems to me that the main character is not Haruhi, but Kyon. From the first minutes you begin to compare yourself with him. He does exactly what you expect him to do. It is he who is something unshakable and reliable in the crazy atmosphere around Haruhi. Who knows - maybe that's why she chose him.
Philosophy. Here I would like to separately mention one of the most best monologues that I've ever heard. And, oddly enough, Haruhi says it:
“Here you are, have you ever thought about how little you mean on the scale of the Earth, as a being?... And I thought. I will never forget.
I was in 6th grade then. The whole family went to watch a baseball game at the stadium. I love baseballI wasn’t interested in this, I was struck by something completely different. Everywhere you look is full of people. Each one is the size of a grain of sand. Everyone is swarming around like worms in a jar. I thought: “Every single Japanese person has gathered here now.” And I asked my dad, “How many people can our baseball stadium hold?” Dad said fifty thousand at the most. After the game we walked to the metro station in a huge crowd. I was just scared then. There are so many people around, and this is only a tiny part of the entire population of Japan! At home I grabbed a calculator. At school we were told that more than one hundred million people live in Japan, so I divided fifty thousand by one hundred million. And I received one two-thousandth. And I got scared again. I was one person in a huge crowd at the stadium, and the crowd that seemed huge to me turned out to be just a handful of people compared to how many of them live in the country with me.
Before that, I considered myself unusual,some special person.I had a wonderful family, and my classmates seemed to memuch more interesting than all the other people on Earth combined. I always thought that I was terribly lucky. But after the stadium, I realized that everything was completely different. My school, which I considered the most interesting in the world, was only the most ordinary average Japanese school. From the point of view of an ordinary Japanese resident, there was nothing special about her at all. When I realized this, the world around me suddenly seemed to fade and lose color. In the evening, brush your teeth and go to bed, get up in the morning and have breakfast. Everything around began to seem the most ordinary, the most everyday. And I started to think that the world is a very boring place. But if there is so much in the world different people, among them there are probably people living interesting, vibrant lives. It cannot be otherwise. But why am I the same as everyone else? I constantly thought about this while I was studying at junior school. And at one fine moment it dawned on me - if you sit and wait, nothing interesting will happen. IN high school I was already thinking about how I could change myself, I decided not to wait for the weather by the sea and try to start living. Essentially, I decided to become myself..." 
This is the first and last time, when Haruhi shows her weakness. She tries to explain why she is the way she is. At this moment it is impossible not to feel warm feelings for this character. And you start to think - what if she’s right? If you sit and wait, nothing interesting will happen? Haruhi uses her example to show the solution to the problem. She didn't get depressed because she was just like everyone else. She changed herself and the world around her in order to stop being an ordinary person and start living a full life. And if at least one person who watched this anime was able to change their life for the better, then it was not created in vain.
The sixth advantage I would like to point out is atmosphere, which was created by artists. Anime is so saturated light colors. Sometimes this is exactly what a person needs when he comes home after a hard day at work. The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya makes it possible to relax and simply rest your soul.
And finally, I want to note plot flexibility. When the first season was first shown in Japan, its episodes were not in calendar order, but in semantic order. That is last episode season there was an episode where Haruhi and Kyon were locked in a closed dimension, and not the one where Kyon was sent to get a heater. Perhaps, in my memory, this is the only case when episodes in an anime can be watched in different orders, and the meaning will not be lost. Moreover, it allows you to look at anime from a different perspective.
Flaws
Although this anime is one of my favorites, it is not without visible shortcomings. Firstly, this simplicity of the plot. There are no super surprises in it, so you shouldn’t expect any sharp plot twists. Secondly - availability typical characters. Each of the types has already been worn down to holes: OYASH; cute little moe heroine; a taciturn heroine who does not let go of the book; a strange guy who doesn't stand out in any way; and, of course, the hyperactive heroine, who is the center of all events. And the last drawback I want to point out is second season. After watching the first season, I picked up the second with hope, and it disappointed me. Apart from the very first episode of the second season, there is nothing interesting in it. The creators took a risk when they made 8 episodes that differed only in small details. In my opinion, this risk was not justified.
Conclusion
To summarize, I want to say that my rating is probably somewhat overestimated, since nostalgic feelings were boiling inside me while writing the review. Nevertheless, I dare to give the first season a rating 8/10 , I can only give the second season 6.0/10 , and even then in advance: for the first episode and for the courage of the creators. So overall for two seasons overall assessment will 7.0/10 . If for some reason you haven’t had time to watch the adventures of the SOS team, now is the time to do so! And may Haruhi be with you!
