These are children who have already danced, with great stage experience (this is a plus), but they have to start from the "basics", and often - to relearn. Because in ensembles and groups the goal is different than in choreographic schools. There, the goal is to get on stage as soon as possible, with a large repertoire, so that it is bright, etc. They don't hone every movement, they don't explain which muscle works where. As a result, children do not memorize movements quite correctly.

Yesterday, after almost a month and a half "vacation", I came to the first class in this "season" in the classics. Usually I study individually with a teacher, but yesterday, due to overlaps in the schedule, I had to study with two more girls. Who came to the lesson "ballet for adults" for the first time. They asked me and the teacher a lot of questions, which can be quite difficult to answer right off the bat. So it occurred to me to write this post - what you should be aware of when you decide to do something as difficult as a classic as an adult.

Ballet for adults is not a new trend at all. Although now, of course, on the wave of popularity of the absolutely disgusting film "Black Swan" (by the way, I used my nickname to communicate on the net long before this movie), ballet became somewhat closer to the masses.

It seems to me that many little girls dream of being ballerinas. They are attracted by beautiful puffy tutus, crowns on their heads, light, effortless fluttering around the stage, thunder of applause... Few of them think about the hard labor that lies ahead before their first appearance on this stage. But today we are talking about adults - who are not in danger of going on stage. But we, adult aunts (and for ballet, a 14-year-old teenager is already an adult aunt) are attracted by the grace, transparency of ballerinas, their ability to stand even in a subway car “not like everyone else.”

If you have made the final and irrevocable decision to take up ballet, here are a few fundamental factors to know and consider:

1. From classical choreography do not lose weight. I really don't like girls who come to class to lose weight. This is my personal problem, but ballet is still something more refined. You can "lose weight" gym. Of course, if before that you did nothing at all, your body will respond to the classes by losing a few kilograms, but no more. What gives ballet for the figure: with constant and regular exercise, the muscles are stretched, lengthened and become "drier". Secondly, you need to learn how to distribute your weight - that is, stand not at the expense of Achilles and calves, but using the whole body: the back of the thigh, tightened buttocks, back without deflection. Thirdly, finger exercises are very traumatic, so not all teachers will risk giving them to amateurs. Earn a foot injury, “grow” a huge bone in thumb, to grind fingers to blood - elementary. I am generally against pointe shoes for amateurs whose weight exceeds 50 kg. And this is not snobbery, this is just a safety technique.

3. Do not think about extraneous things in class. At fitness, you can afford to be distracted by thinking "about your girlish" while pumping the press. Classical choreography requires brain effort and constant focus. You will be distracted by the crow outside the window - the backside is already loose or the elbow is lowered. Since amateurs are not hammered into the technique of classical dance with early years, They dont have unconditioned reflexes professional ballerinas who brush their teeth, standing in fifth position. Therefore, you will constantly have to think about how to keep your legs eversion-free, not to bend in the lower back, not to raise your shoulders, hold your hand, pull the instep, clamp your buttocks, pull in your stomach, stretch your knees, do not mow your foot, do not bring your shoulder blades together ... Continue? This list is endless. But you still need to remember about the combination given by the teacher. If you want to achieve results, come to class to work, and not dream about tutus and pointe shoes.

5. A classical dance lesson requires a certain form. You can come to fitness with any hairstyle and in any uplifting T-shirt. In ballet, a certain form is adopted: white or peach leotards (no body tights or black leggings!), a leotard with a deep cutout on the back so that the teacher can monitor the shoulder blades, white or pink ballet flats (the “populists” are engaged in black), gathered in tight bun hair, preferably no makeup. Feel free to your body, don't wrap yourself in wide pants and t-shirts. The maximum that you can afford is warm-up shorts or overalls. But it is still better for beginners to come in the most open form so that the teacher can see and correct your mistakes.

6. Don't Expect Quick Results and Prepare for the Pain. Yes, it sounds intimidating, but in ballet everything is through pain. If it is convenient for you to do this or that step, then you are doing it wrong.! The classic is an unnatural position of the body, so it will always be painful and difficult. And even if you attend class regularly and stretch at home every day, don't expect to have perfect eversion after a month of hard work.

And a little about myself:

I know that many professional ballerinas treat amateurs with some contempt. I myself was like that, although behind me I have only an unfinished ballet school the city of Odessa (read - "a circle of interests with a slight bias in the classics"). Until she came to the classroom after an almost 10-year hiatus. Yes, I had beautiful concept about the positions of the arms and legs, knew all the basic terms and was guided by what the teacher wanted from me. But… there was no muscle memory at all. That is, I knew how this or that movement should look, but the body refused to obey. Everything had to be worked out again, through terrible pain and even injuries. In order to return the stretch ( full twines), to develop upper eversion to the maximum possible extent and start doing a little bit in pointe shoes, without holding on to the barre, it took me 4 years. I am now in my eighth year as an amateur, and if you think I can easily dance an elementary variation, well, for example emeralds, you are deeply mistaken. I still laugh out loud when I look at myself in the mirror while doing some of almost all the steps.
